When a husband-and-wife research team from Nerazuria intercepts an audio-visual transmission from Wormhole 2714, the two aliens are astonished by its contents. So much so that the duo, already exiled to a life of deep-space investigations because of a failed experiment, contemplates violating a Presidium of Science directive to learn more. But to do so, the pair will have to outsmart a team of androids programmed to prevent them from carrying out their plan.
(This short story will be part of an upcoming anthology called Stretch of the Imagination, Volume 1.)
The story Felyk crafted is short and sweet and tells a tale of science, space exploration, love, and growth. The repressive nature of life is blended well into the narrative and dialogue with just enough to paint a picture of life on Nerazuria. What is omitted is left to the imagination and works to provide a satisfying reveal further on in the story. While it could have gone on or even spawn a sequel, I found the ending a good place to leave it, with the reader pondering the possibilities to come. Overall, an engaging and enjoyable short read.
Droll but insightful. This tale of space travelers finding Earth's coordinates and the changes they experience is a brief chapter's worth of information that makes the reader ready to journey for further episodes. I really loved this from exposition to falling action. Not sure about the resolution and hope for more.
This is a well-written tale. Although short, it holds the reader’s attention throughout. The choice of broadcasts received by the Angeatrail is a bit specific, but then again, what the heck! The format changes for a couple of pages two thirds of the way through. All In all, I enjoyed this novella and would definitely read more by Alan Felyk.
I like it. Entertaining and smart. The characters, although alien, humans and robot alike, are remarkably human even though they might realize it. I will purchase the ebook when it comes out. Well done.
Fun, fast read with a Great ending. I love it! A lot packed into this very short story. Just enough background to keep it real, and wording that makes it believable. What I took from it is that we shouldn’t take things for granted; things that are often right in front of us our entire lives!
This is a nice little short story and not at all what I expected. It’s a very intriguing concept that the author has come up with, and not something I would have second-guessed.
The story centres on a pair of scientists in an alternative universe who come across a controversial transmission through a wormhole. Suffice to say that there is some universe hopping going on, and the differences between universes are quite unexpected! Even the androids find it interesting.
Well worth a read if you like something a little surprising.
