“You don’t…” He looked embarrassed to be asking. “You don’t…believe in love?”

When bad weather derails Jules Orton’s Christmas travel plans, her brother’s friend steps in. Will is happy to drive Jules the eight hundred miles she needs to go—because her destination happens to be the family home of his dream girl and long-term crush. And he’d suffer anything for just one glance.

Nothing can deter Will. Not snow, traffic jams, breakdowns—or hotels with inadequate sleeping arrangements. Not even his passenger, cynical and sarcastic Jules, who seems determined to spend the journey explaining to him why he’s wrong. About love. And everything else.

But as Jules picks away at Will’s people-pleasing layers and attempts to unravel his romantic delusions, it's her unromantic worldview that gets put to the test. Because Will might just be that rarest of gifts: a truly nice guy.

If only life hadn’t convinced her to give up on men. And if only his heart hadn’t already been given…

Rachel Rowan’s Entitled Love novellas weave the stately homes and witty banter of regency romance into contemporary steamy romcoms. Each story is a standalone, featuring a new couple (and a happy ending).

I’ve never read anything by this author before and let me just say: I’m so glad that has changed. This book is a gorgeous combination of sweetness, wit, and angst tied up a modern day nice boy that’s actually nice, aristocratic, Christmas bow.

More to come on this review when the NyQuil isn’t working quite as well.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book for review. I can’t wait to return to her literary world and read all of the rest of her books.

In Rachel Rowan’s Entitled Love novellas, elements of regency romance such as elegant homes and clever conversation between beautiful, aristocratic people, are interwoven into modern, spicy romantic comedies.

In book 5, Unwrapped, we meet William Augustus Henry Shilstone the Second, a.k.a. Biffy. He is part of a dissolute group of playboys. Biffy is famous for his affability and his parties, where excess is expected!

Also introduced is Jules Orton, cynical and sarcastic little sister of the Honourable Jay Orton, ex-playboy.
They come from an unhappy family, characterised by a bullying licentious father and a bitter, distant mother.
Jules has an understandably jaundiced view of love and fidelity (or lack thereof)!

Biffy/Will is at a Christmas party at Castle Deveron, Scotland the solely to see Felicity Pennington, who has unknowingly bewitched him for eight years.

Jules was due to meet her best friend, Felicity at the party, then travel with her to spend Christmas in Kent.
Felicity’s absence puts both Jules and Will on the back foot.

On the day after the party, snow causes transport difficulties. When Will offers to give Jules a lift to Felicity’s home in Kent, she reluctantly agrees.

Jules returns the favour with a brutal character analysis of Will. He is told his nickname makes him sound like a clown, that his friends are awful and he is wasting his time, mooning after Felicity.

Fortunately, Will is a gentleman and doesn’t just leave her at the side of the road.

Over the course of a very long journey, Jules and Will come to a kind of friendship.

When they break their journey at a hotel near York, they find only one double room available.
They are jokingly delighted to play out the “Only one room trope” so beloved by romance writers!

Very enjoyable story and a satisfying denouement.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

After 4 Entitled Love novellas (and one short story) and Engaging the Enemy (Entitled Love: The Novels #1), we've got Unwrapped, a novella which takes place between 4. and 5. book. You can sort of read it as a standalone but it has a lot of references about characters from other books in the series, so I would recommend you to read them all.
The author created a contemporary universe of a group of young aristocrats, in every novella you meet new romantic couple, along with the group of friends and relatives. I've read then all and gave them all 5 stars so Unwrapped came as lovely addition.
First, I have to say something about the writing . Miss Rowan has this witty style, she writes intelligent banter mixed with such gentle, intimate inner thoughts, you really feel like you KNOW the characters and you can understand their reasons, however unreasonable or unpropper or selfish they are. This you can notice in her every book, so now I really think it is the main reason why are these novellas so addictive. And also, already from novella nr.3 I didn't expect nothing less☺.

For Unwrapped, I successfully avoided any blurb, just to get into it totally blind. Miss Rowan gave us little bits and teasers, ah it was really hard not to read it. The story is Christmas romance, about Biffy/William and Jules. They don't know each other very well, but somehow find themselves stuck in a car a day before Christmas for a very long drive of eight hundred miles Jules needs to go—„because HER destination happens to be the family home of HIS dream girl and long-term crush. And he’d suffer anything for just one glance.“ That’s all I will give you, no spoiling here. We heard of Biffy in previous novellas, some rich guy who basically organizes the parties, so we had this opinion about this shallow man, as Jules did. Well, did we and Jules had it wrong. Jules is lonely serious girl with family baggage and she really deserved some NICE guy in her life. This is romance book with HEA, but every step, every page was gentle, touching and often heartbreaking. And here comes the ingenuity of the author, where she mixes sadness and hilarity in such addictive way, you never want it to end. A note about the spice, it's written very well, justifies the relationship development and this book wouldn’t be so great without it.

I give this book 5+ stars and to all romance books lovers, read it, but start from Uncommon (Entitled Love #1) you'll fall in love with the series.

I want to thank the author for this ARC, my review is honest and independent.

The banter in this book is 🤌🏻🤌🏻 I was so glad to be able to come back and visit these characters after reading Engaging The Enemy. The witty banter is sooo good and the tension spot on! Will and Jules are both literary nerds going on a long trip and experience a one bed trope 👀

Perfect holiday read!

Thank you Rachel for the arc, all thoughts are my own.

Unwrapped is a new addition to Rowan's collection of Entitled Love novelllas. This is the story of Jules Orton and William Shilstone, aka Biffy.

Biffy is at Castle Deveron where he has been invited to attend Edward and Natalie's Christmas party. (Their story can be found in Uncommon, the first novella.) His friends Hugo Blackton (read Engaging The Enemy for his love story), Vikram Singh, and Jay Orton are there as well. Jay is Jules' big brother. (He is seeing Sophia Clements, and their story can be found in Untouched, the third novella.) Biffy is keen to locate Felicity Pennington among the party's attendees as he was told she would be there. He first saw her 8 years prior when visiting Jay. She was there visiting Jules. While he can't stop thinking about her, he has yet to have a conversation with her. In fact, she likely doesn't even know his name.

Jules is at the same party. She's in a bad mood as she is not a person who enjoys socializing. She would much prefer to spend her time reading. She too was under the impression that Felicity would be there, but her horse fell ill and she went home to Kent. She and Biffy have a brief conversation where her lack of belief in love becomes quite clear.

The following morning, Biffy is up early in order to drive home. He finds Jules in the breakfast room with her nose in a book. When he learns that due to the snowstorm her taxi won't arrive in time to get her to the train, he offers to drive her... 800 miles to Kent, where she intends to spend Christmas with the Penningtons.

The long drive affords them plenty of opportunity to talk, and get to know one another better. And while Biffy finds Jules attractive, he keeps reminding himself that she is Jay's little sister. As expected, there are some bumps in the road that leads them to have to overnight at a hotel with limited accommodations due to the season.

Rowan did not disappoint with this newest addition to her series. This novella is a cornucopia of tropes including a little friends to lovers, a little grumpy/sunshine, and some best friend's sister. Jules is such a fun grump. She has a good heart, and the best of intentions, but she grew up in a broken home and therefore her view on love and relationships is understandably skewed. Biffy is such a sweet, happy go lucky guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. I love that the two spark a connection, but let the embers burn.

If you're looking for a guaranteed HEA, with a side of fairy tale romance, I highly recommend checking out Rowan's writing. Each of her novellas is a standalone story, but they're all connected with recurring characters. Her recently released Entitled Love contains Uncommon, Unspoken, Untouched, and Unwanted. I highly recommend picking up a copy! I'm hoping there are move novellas to come.

As Rowan is English, there are always words or expressions I need to look up. To wrap up this review I'm choosing one #NewToMeWord: pratfall. It means a fall on to one's buttocks.

Finding Love . . .

William Augustus Henry Shilstone the Second -- known as “Biffy” -- and his friends were looking at the party crowd at Castle Deveron and betting on who would next get engaged. Actually, Biffy was wondering if the one meant to be his was in the crowd, trying to spot Felicity Pennington who was supposed to be attending. He had wanted her for 8 years now, ever since he first saw her.

Jules Orton was definitely in a bad mood. When she saw Will approach (she refused to call him Biffy which made him sound like a clown), she knew he was hoping to find her best friend, Fel. Looking at her brother Jay and his new “love”, she said it would never last because nothing ever did. He’ll get bored and leave her. Love is a total fairytale. Her parents were a good lesson on that point. When it snowed overnight, Jules saw her travel plans ruined. Biffy packed up and went down for breakfast. He was leaving early since he had a long drive to his parents’ house. Jules was downstairs too, this time without makeup and looking much softer. He ate cereal rather than bother the cook before the heavy crowd arrived, and Jules was surprised at his thoughtfulness. He wasn’t like his friends, but she just assumed he was. She had been ready to go to the Pennington home for Christmas, but the snow delayed the train schedules. With the hope of seeing Felicity, Biffy offered to drive Jules there, despite the long 800 mile distance.

Jules wasn’t a pleasant travel companion. She was determined to convince him that love was not real. Instead, she was seeing the genuine loving, caring person he is. By the end of their journey, will she appreciate the man he is? And is there any chance he would ever consider her instead of Fel for a girlfriend? As he had told her, it’s always a risk falling in love. But sometimes, the risk is worthwhile.

✨Synopsis✨
When bad weather derails Jules Ortan’s Christmas plans, her brother’s best friend Will volunteers to drive her eight hundred miles as she is heading to her best friend’s house, which happens to be the girl Will has been crushing for some years now! He would endure bad weather and cynical Jules company for once glance of his crush.
Jules is cynical about love due to her life experiences but she knows Will is just one of the better friends his brother has. He is quite nice if he gives up his people pleasing attitude. They have long road trip ahead to discover more of each other!

✨My Thoughts✨
I really enjoyed this fun holiday romance between Will and Jules, set in London and surrounding regions. It is perfect for a Christmas read. Some of the characters in the book including Will are from aristocratic families, so it’s kind of modern yet little royal vibes!

I loved the pacing of the story and the banter between Will and Jules on their road trip is very fun, witty and you can feel their chemistry. Yes, there is a snowstorm outside and they have to make a nightly stop - cue in single bed trope! Expected but I am not complaining. Loved how the story progressed from there, how Jules and Will feel after the night and why they do so. The character flaws and their growth is done well.

When you read it, I am sure you will appreciate the conversation between Will and Jules over a period of months in form of sms exchanges! 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. The plus for book lovers like us - reference of classics like Northanger Abbey, and Bronte sister classics.

It is a fun quick read that you can enjoy this holiday season. Also, there are four other novellas in the series but that will not impact reading these standalone. And you can always pick others from the series for more fun.

This was my first novella by the author and I received the ARC from her in return for my genuine review.

When Jules misses her train because of the snow, her brother’s friend, Will, offers to drive her the 800 miles to her friend’s house for the holidays. Jules knows he’s only offering because it gives him a chance to see her best friend, Felicity. Everyone knows he is smitten with her. Well, everyone except Felicity. But riding with Will is preferable to being stranded at the train station. And Will is the least insufferable of all her brother’s awful friends; he’s nice even. At least when he’s being himself. And maybe a little hot? But he’s in love with her best friend, and Jules doesn’t do relationships. Ever. But a lot can change when you are stuck in a car with someone for 10 hours…

I adored this Christmas romance. It had all the heart fluttering moments you could hope for, with just the right amount of spice. I don’t want to ruin anything for you, but let me just say that Jules gets to live out one of the romance lover’s favorite tropes…and that scene does not disappoint. Meanwhile, Will is one of those rare unicorns of a man, you know, the ones that you can only find in books written by female authors? 😂
He is hot, but in a very realistic way. He’s funny and witty but he’s also sweet and sappy and oh so romantic. And he isn’t afraid to talk dirty to you if the situation calls for it. 🥵

This is a fast paced, open door romcom with loads of fun banter. I blew through this book in one day because I honestly couldn’t put it down. Add it to your holiday TBR, you won’t be disappointed!

Thank you so much to Rachel Rowan for giving me an ARC of this book! My review is voluntary and my honest opinion

Will Shilstone is a people-pleaser and an always smiley party boy, a true romantic at heart. His friend's sister Jules Orton prefers books to people, likes sarcasm, wearing black and never dates. After knowing each other for years, these two are certain that they have absolutely nothing in common. But what happens if you put them on a 800 mile snowy cross-country trip? Turns out they might, perhaps, kinda like each other. A lot. And who knows what might happen when they have to stop for an unexpected one-bed-trope hotel night… I think this is one of the best romance books I have read in forever. The story doesn’t have any big dramatic twists and turns, it is just an enjoyable, banter- and literary-references-filled road trip during which the hero and heroine come to the realization that people are not always what they seem and might not always know what they want or need, all while falling in love for the first time in their lives. The writing is beautiful and fast-paced despite the abundance of self-musings. If you are into intelligent characters, realistic relationships, some steamy scenes and a hint of the life of British upper classes, this one’s for you. I have read a couple of other books by Rachel Rowan too and can definitely recommend, so check them out!.

Fun, fast novella that keeps you interested right from the beginning.
Jules and Will have differing views on love...he thinks he loves her best friend even though he's never really even spoken to her and Jules doesn't even believe in love.
When Will helps out his best friend's little sister and gives her a ride at Christmas, Jules decides to chip away at Will's nice guy tendencies and views on romance. Not realizing that it will also chip away at all her own cynical views on love and romance.
Thanks to snowstorms and hotels with limited space, they find themselves giving into the attraction they feel and have what they think will be a one and done night together. What that one night gives them is a whole new view on things. Will is all in for exploring what may be growing between them, while Jules is terrified in the new feelings they are both happening and doesn't trust that it could be real.
Will takes some time for self discovery and Jules needs to figure out her own feelings and issues while wondering if she let the best thing to happen to her fall through her fingers.
I enjoyed the story very much and really enjoyed that it wasn't the typical romance novel "formula".
I hope there is more to come about other characters that appear in this story. I'm invested in seeing them all get their own HEA.

Will is everybody's friend, he's always the party organiser the fun guy good for a laugh. But under all that he's just an ordinary guy, no different from anyone else except he had a yacht or a friends jet or even his families estate. That's what his friends saw all except Jules his friends younger sister. But for the last eight years he's had a thing for her best friend, even though she didn't know who he was. Jules came from a dysfunctional family her dad was always cheating on her mum, her parents never had time for their children. Her brother and sister did anything to avoid family get together. Is it any wonder she thinks love is fake. Having to spend eight hours in a car together these two make the road trip to beat all road trips, she plans to set him up with her best friend. But nothing goes as planned. This is a real soul bearing story of how nothing is what it seems. Sometimes what you want is right under your nose its just being brave enough to risk being hurt. The main characters are so real I found it easy to understand how Jules was feeling, yet Will had a lot to learn about himself. This is a brilliantly written book and I feel lucky to have recieved it as an ARC copy and this is my own personal and honest opinion and review of the book.

ARC Book Review
Unwrapped
A Novella Written By Rachel Rowan
Fiction - Romance
Published November 8, 2023
166 Pages
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are looking for a quick sweet holiday book, this one is for you. It is a steamy rom com with a cinnamon roll male main character. The story involves a road trip with the female main character’s brother’s best friend. The road trip includes a book talk and one bed. What’s not to like?

Snow has sidetracked Jules Orion’s travel plans for Christmas. Her brother’s best friend, William Shilstone, offers to drive her the 800 miles to her destination. Her destination just happens to be the home of Jules’s friend, Felicity, who Will has had a crush on for many years.

I loved the conversation, flirting, and pillow talk between Jules and Will as they navigate their way through a snowstorm. Will is a very charming and funny guy. His personality slowly melts the negative opinion Jules has for him. Will’s charm also changes Jules’s pessimistic views of love.

Their night in a hotel room with one bed is the best as they destroy the one bed trope.

“I like this Christmas present I’ve unwrapped.”

“Falling in love. It’s a risk I’m prepared to take.”

I'm a huge fan of Rachel Rowan's Entitled love series and Unwrapped, having a festive theme, is a particular favourite of mine. Not only is there an interesting and quite touching romance being played out, but the glimpses into the English aristocracy and their sumptuous Christmases provide everything to get you in the right festive frame of mind.

Again with Rowan, you get expertly crafted MCs perfectly matched in their idiosyncrasies, slowly discovering their romantic attraction while fighting the realities of their own emotional demons. This sort of deep dive into the human psyche, coupled with their unusual story lines, is what makes Rowan's novels unique in the world of romance writing.

In short, this is the sort of book you read once and never forget. The emerging love affair is almost tangible, the fragility of the MCs situations heartbreakingly accurate, and the HAE out of this world. Curl up with a blanket, this book and a glass of mulled wine - Christmas reading just got amazing!.

Will is a very wealthy nice guy who hangs around with reprobates, one of whom is Jules’ brother Jay. For eight years he has had a crush on her best friend Fel, who barely knew he existed. Will offered to give Jules a ride to Fel’s house where she usually spent Christmas. Who knew that that ride would be a life altering event. Jules is an interesting character. She has a Gothic tendancy, acts all tough and anti-social, and has a quick mind and even quicker tongue. Her parents’ relationship is so awful that she has decided that if she doesn’t care, she won’t get hurt. Will, on the other hand, hangs out with the cool guys he befriended at boarding school, partying, and footing the bills. A few frank conversations, a hot night and an inadvertant set-down lead to an unexpected connection and the desire for more. Fear and rejection culminate in a year’s separation that puts both of them on the right track. The dialogue is creative and full of innuendos and literary references. The emotions are intense, and so are the characters. Quite enjoyable.

“One bed trope!” she exclaimed. “I can’t believe it’s happening for real.”
-Jules

This is the sixth book from Rachel in my finished pile. This is the first of her books that made me sob. Not just my heart hurting while reading. Full on gasping, noisy, tears covering my face, full on sobbing. The conversation between Will and Jules in front of Fel’s home had me putting down my Kindle to cry it out till I was able to get my heart to calm down.

One. Bed. Trope!!! Ahhhh!!!!! One of my most favorite tropes. Side eye me all you want. That is gold and you know it. These two not only find themselves in a one bed trope, but they talk about it because they are readers and are wanting to do something with their lives in the book world. It is hysterical to read.

A wonderful thing about Rachel’s books is how all her past characters make an appearance in the others of the series. Even if it is just in passing. That plays a big part in how quickly attached this sobbing mess gets to her characters. These are all able to be read as standalones, but much more fun as a series.

- Christmas romance
- Reverse grumpy/sunshine
- Brother's best friend
- Only one bed

This is a quick read featuring Will, who is a bit insecure and Jules who is a bit prickly. Will is friends with Jules' brother Jay and Jules is the friend of Fel, the woman Will is interested in. So when Jules misses her train to Fel's house for Christmas, Will quickly volunteers to drive her. The drive is long (over 10 hours) and the weather is snowy (making the drive longer), so Will and Jules have plenty of time to get to know one another. Jules tries to be helpful, telling Will everything he should work on to make himself more appealing to women. She doesn't hold back with her commentary.

Ultimately, the chemistry between Will and Jules becomes obvious to both of them. But will either act on it?

Quirky characters and plenty of banter make this a very enjoyable book.

Loved this holiday novella set in the Entitled universe! I really enjoy Rachel's writing, she's always able to get me hooked on the story and characters so quickly.
This is the story of Jules + Will. Jules - a black cat, grumpy, romance non-believer, and little sister of Jay Orton. Will - a golden retriever, people pleaser, and best friends with Jay. The two mostly see each other at parties, including the annual Christmas bash. They wouldn't even be considered friends. Then they end up on a road trip (complete with a one bed situation!!!) filled with banter, Jules giving him some hard truths, and Will pushing her to let her walls down. The banter was ON (I love a grumpy x sunshine vibe), a sprinkle of spice (just enough to add some heat to the building romance), and a cute HEA for these two. All the trimmings for a great holiday novella!

What even is there to say except as always, Rachel Rowan has blown it out of the park. I'm pretty sure she left a crater behind. They won't be playing football any longer, that's for sure.

Anyway, the point is, I loved cynical Jules and secretly soft Will/Biffy and...

So there's this scene.

And.

I.

Died.

Exaggeration? Maybe, because I do appear to still be alive and typing this, but it is hands down the hottest thing I have read this month. And the BANTER. I'm a sucker for banter and this novella navigated the transition between their prickly, awkward beginning to when they're falling for each other so SUBTLY and elegantly.

I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.

What a wonderful, heartbreaking but utterly romantic book with just a bit of spicy content thrown into the mix.
I love this series by Rachel Rowan, I must admit I've not read them all but this one has me willing out two main characters to get back to each other.
I enjoyed the humour in the book, you don't need to have read the other books in this series to enjoy this one either.
A delight to read, two people who deserve each other but have to find that out the hard way. I loved Wiil's adventures and the feistyness of Jules.
Rachel's writing to do good it makes the book easy to access and grips you from the first page.
I look forward to more books in this series.

Honest ARC review.

Now this is how you write romance! I got all giggly and even dropped my phone from second-hand embarrassment a few times. I fell HARD for both characters. I loved them, and I loved their backstories.

Unwrapped is shorter, which I happened to like. There wasn't any beating around the bush or taking forever for them to catch feelings. I hate when stories drag on. This book was perfect in every way, and I’m obsessed. The ending was fantastic.

50/10 recommend

Biffy (Will) start out as sort of adversaries with Jules criticizing his life choices and him her wanting to be antisocial but while traveling together a stay in a hotel with only one room with one bed causes them to reconsider their feelings for each other. But she has problems trusting men to be faithful and Will has a long term crush on Jules’ best friend so I could see why she wouldn’t accept that this may have changed and he is an excessive people pleaser with several leaches for friends. I liked that he traveled away from his friends to find himself. It sounds like she needed to do some soul searching before she could commit to a relationship too.

A cute Christmas novella based on two aristocratic people who are quite different in terms of personality.

The author did really well at getting the difference of personalities across with Will's sweetness and Jules brutal remarks.

With the winter road trip and one bed trope it give me hints of Beth O'Leary's Road Trip book.

The only con I would say is the characters did fall in love a little quickly. The book sees them together for one weekend roadtripping from Scotland to Kent then they exchange messages for a year before being reunited the following year.

Another lovely read from the Entitled Love series.

It has been a while since I had read the others in this series, so it took a while to get back to the various characters.
But, Jules and Biffy/Will were very cute together and it was great to see their romance develop.

I really liked the almost meta jokes about the one bed trope a lot!!

Also that romantasy book that was referenced– please write it, I want to read it so bad!!

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.

This was a fun, cozy Christmas romance! Once the book picked up in the second chapter, I didn't want to put it down. There were times I wanted to reach into the book and throttle Jules, but also, given the nature of her parents, I could see where she was coming from. I enjoyed how Will began to thaw her heart and bring down her walls, and that Jules was able to give Will a sense of self and self-discovery. Super easy read, highly recommend for anyone who enjoys cozy rom coms, just in time for the holidays!

Another beautiful story

Really loved this story. A nice short story but full of emotions.
Will was such a lovely man, nothing false about him, all round good guy who had lived a charmed life, bit of a womaniser, never having found the one to change him. Jules was weary from an unhappy childhood, having no faith in love and faithfulness.
They shared a passionate night and Will wanted more but Jules was running scared. They did have a year apart (not my favourite trope) but all ended well in a really sweet HEA.
Highly recommend this book and this author ❤️

This is a novella set in the world of the Entitled Love series. Each can be read as a standalone but some of the characters are recurring.

This is a short, sweet romance about breaking down walls and finding out what you really want. I love our main characters, Jules and Will. Her snark and his sweetness is so fun to read but by the end I think they bring out the best in each other.

I received an advanced copy of this novella. This review is my honest opinions.

This story is such a sweet Christmas / holiday tale.

British High Society with a snowy road trip, one bed stay over, & a journey to self-discovery.

I loved that the MCs weren't pining for each other the entire story. It was a mutual growth, a getting to know you, slow build kind of story. Very well written!!

Highly Recommend
