What I liked about the book:
👻 Linda Kage always writes great characters with interconnected stories, really completing a found family well. I seriously can’t wait for the rest in this series! I’ve already fallen so hard for the 7!

👻 The steam was A+!

👻 I like how Kage always writes strong FMCs. They are all completely different in personality and experiences, but there is something about them that makes them so strong, and I love seeing this representation.

👻 I liked how Damien fell so hard so fast for Oaklynn. As someone who sounded like he had a lot of trouble opening up in relationships, I loved watching him melt for her. From their first intimate encounters where he just longed for her embrace afterwards (a woman who was supposed to be a hookup only), I knew he was a goner for “Dimples”. That’s another thing, I love how vulnerable Kage writes her MMCs. She has no problem showing the deeply emotional roots of her MMCs even when they are total alphas, which is also refreshing to see.

👻 I loved the mystery! I love a good murder mystery/paranormal book, especially if there is tons of romance in it to keep that part of my brain happy.

What could have been better:
👻 I really didn’t like Oaklynn’s best friend, Jaylani. She was kind of a terrible person and really wasn’t there during the important parts of the book. I would be happy to never have her in another book in this series. Waverly and Raina, however? They BEST end up with two of these other men!

👻 I wish that the murder mystery had taken up more of the page count. I went into this expecting them to fall in love as they worked through the murder, and it was almost like the murder was an afterthought really just transpiring in the last 15% of the book. I wish there had been less back and forth on their mutual pining and more looking into the murder, especially given their majors in journalism and psychology.

3.5 Stars! I will happily and greedily be gobbling up the rest of this series!

Thank you to Booksirens and Linda Kage for this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

My Review:

Vacancy is a book that I have no clue why I put off as long as I did. Because this book was pretty amazing. And seeing a regular contemporary new adult author tackle a paranormal romance just really worked for me. Its not too heavy in the paranormal elements but there are aspects of it here. This story basically has a setup of where the heroine gets a lease on a apartment in a house where her roommate is a ghost but she doesn't know that she is a ghost and this ghost is the dead sister of our hero. Their meet cute is pretty hilarious, but now Damien has a conflict...how does he tell the girl he really likes that she is seeing a ghost without hating him? Honestly, I really felt for Damien. He and Oaklynn have bonded quickly and he doesn't want to lose her or what they have and he also doesn't want to come off as crazy either. I love the way that the Seven really comes together and tells him the truth on this but he doesn't really listen lol But honestly I am kinda on his side here, how on earth do you tell your girl she is seeing mystical things?

There is also a fabulous murder mystery that plays out within this story and what we see develop is so well built within the story. And if you think you know who the villain is....YOU really don't know who the villain is and man I loved the twists and turns within this one. Linda Kage is definitely growing as an author and you can see it within this story. Another aspect that I loved was the Seven dwarf personalities within the group of male friends, definitely couldn't get enough of that.

On the whole, I enjoyed this. Likeable characters, great chemistry, super steamy and an interesting premise. However, it was far too long imo (~500 pages) - had to get through 70% for the penny to finally drop. Once it did, I was fully invested but ngl, not sure Oaklynn will make the best investigative journalist out there 😅 Still, I would be tempted to check out Hudson’s story next.

I've been reading Linda Kage for years, but lately, I simply lost track of her releases. I loved "The Forbidden Men" series and her reinterpretation of famous stories because she knows how to mix a sweet story with emotion and sometimes, action. Being part of her Facebook has its perks, so when I found out about "The Seven" series, I was completely hooked. Pay attention - I didn't even read the blurb, which has to say a lot about my confidence in my next read.

"Vacancy" was special and I knew from the first pages that this was something Linda was newly diving into and killing it in the process. This story is with paranormal influences, mixed with action, suspense, and an intense love story. All this is beautifully blended, delivering an enchanting story that kept me reading until late hours into the night. If it happened to me, it will happen to you.

Oaklynn has all figured out - her career in journalism will be huge, but she just needs to focus on her goals and don't fall in love, because it will be a distraction she is not willing to handle. Short on money and options, she is looking for a place to rent near her campus. Luck is on her side and she finds a beautiful house, with a vibe she cannot resist. Her tenant is Thalia, a vibrant and funny young woman who welcomes her into her house, which is currently rented together with her brother, Damien. Oaklynn's reaction to him is almost immediate and soon, they will find each other in a very attractive situation, very hard to control, which will soon escalate into love.

The only problem here is that Oaklynn has a gift she is not aware of and her connection with Thalia is literally out of this world, making her relationship with Damien complicated and on to a bumpy start. There will be secrets kept, but also a connection which will be very hard to break.

I loved the characters and I liked the idea behind the plot. The Romance element was so pronounced, and all were marked by the paranormal plot, which makes the story more alert, making you read and read until you find your answers. I was very surprised that the main idea of the book was spilled in the blurb and I thought that maybe it would have been a major spoiler. But after thinking it through, I found it very smart from Linda, because that spoiler made the difference between an average Romance story and "Vacancy". The details were a little scary, but I love a good Thriller and this certainly delivered.

I liked Damien and his loyalty towards his sister and finding the truth. The trauma he lived was truly heavy and you could feel his torment, but he was also capable of being vulnerable and driven by a sense of justice. With Oaklynn, they made a great pair, and even if at the beginning, they were united by attraction, you could feel how much they began to love one another.

The ending was exactly like I wanted it to be, a true tribute to "The Ghost Whisperer" and it was rewarding and sweet. It made me very emotional and made me realize how unfair life can be. :( I dropped 0.5 on the final rating because there were some scenes and dialogues that seemed very long and a little boring, especially with the banter between the boys. I understand that they were meant for us to get to know them, but I was so invested in the initial plot, that I just wanted to get to the good part. :D

Overall, a very good book and for you to understand my drive for this story - I even told my husband about the book and kept him informed about the developments and important moments.

Great story in true Linda Kage fashion (healthy dose of sweetness / hotness combined and a bit of suspense).

Take under concideration the trigger warnings mentioned not only from the Hero's POV but of all his friends as well.

The paranormal element in the story was at times a bit far fetched and I would prefer the story to be about 100 pages shorter, but all in all, I had a good time reading this book and I will certainly be reading at least the next two that have already been published.

After partying too much in her Highschool years, Oaklynn is focused on her studies. So no partying and no hooking up with guys. But at Haverick U, living arrangements is bit more expensive then she expected. A beautiful brownstone shows up for rent at an almost-too-good-to-be true price, she takes it. Her new roommate Thalia is a joy and Damien, her landlord is HOT. Things seem a bit too good to be true, might just be.

I loved this fabulous murder mystery that plays out within this story. You are figuring out this mystery along Oaklynn. It is very clear to the reader about Thalia, Oaklynn's naivety made it perfect. When the revelations came out though, my heart broke for Oaklynn for how everyone had treated her. Even if I could understand the reasons for it. Communications people!
Damien falls first and he is truely lovable with his being vulnerable with Oaklynn. He is kind, passionate, protective to Oaklynn. Everyone keeps telling him to tell her and he doesn't until he has no choice. My heart broke for them both.
I loved the friends group, they are easily so likeable, you wanna know more.

Jaylini, I didn't like very much. She was selfcentred and kept pushing her opioin on Oaklynn. Wouldn't listen no matter what.

I enjoyed the mystery and the paranormal elements but really loved the connection between Oaklynn and Damien. The opening chapter where the whole group of friends meet was really heart felt.

This was a first time read for me by the author and I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed the mystery and the paranormal elements but really loved the connection between Oaklynn and Damien. I also loved his friends group and how the all became so close. That opening chapter was really heart felt I thought.

The story had a good pace and I read this fairly quickly over a few days (Something quite monumental for me at present when I'm awaiting my new reading glasses and reading without them itt's quite hard - plus a headache!!).

I'll definitely look at more work by Linda, this was a good read and I enjoyed the characters and the flow. A solid 3.5 stars.

The first book in interconnected series (THE SEVEN) and I NEED MORE!!! Oaklynn needs a place to live. While out, stumbles upon one that includes sweet, bubbly Thalia, her new roommate. She also meets Thalia’s brother, quiet, handsome, mysterious Damien. You could feel their chemistry from the getgo. They are so good together but Damien is keeping a secret from her that could jeopardize their complicated relationship. He’s totally fallen head over heels for his girl, but the news could mess things up. She is interacting and talking to Thalia, which is his sister who was murdered 10 years ago in that apartment! 👻

Damien and his friends(group is loosely based off the 7 dwarfs in a modern college dudes way) lol, they are easily so likeable, you wanna know more! They met when they were younger during Grief Counseling Group and all stayed close since they were in their preteen years.

I LOOOVED reading Damien & Oaklynn’s story. It’s emotional, sweet, oh so sad, steamy, fun and just a good story. Bring on the rest of the boys!

Linda Kage never disappoints.
I’ve been reading her books for a long time now and somehow, she always gets better.
Vacancy is about Oaklynn, who rents a room from a freaking ghost without even knowing it (spooky right?). Also there’s Damien who freaks out after finding out this girl rented HIS apartment from his dead sister.
The book follows the very common miscommunication trope, where Damien doesn’t tell Oaklynn about his sister and she constantly thinks he’s hiding something (you were right bae).
I liked the narrative, the tropes were good, the way she found out 10/10, and how everything got solved is entertaining with amazing side characters who, I assume, will have their books.
The only thing I didn’t quite like was the insta-love, I mean they went from wanting to be cautious about each other to being the best couple ever too fast. Also, I didn’t understand Oaklynn’s best friend plot bc WHY would you stop talking to your bff for a random chick who's jealous and how did it get solved??? did I miss it or was it just not there?
Nevertheless, I adored this book and am 100% down to read another with a similar trope, I love ghosts, and when only the MC can see them.

I received an ARC of this book and it is my honest review. I went into this book blind, didn't read the overview or blurb. And I'm so glad I did because I got to truly discover everything with our FMC. It is the way I would recommend you read this book it was a very enjoyable experience.
I really enjoyed this book it gave a new twist on paranormal gifts and what it woukd be like to have them and not truly know you have them.
This book follows Oaklyn and Damien. Damien is our troubled MMC who is obsessed with finding his sisters killer. And Oaklyn is his sisters roommate. They meet and Damien is fascinated with Oaklyn and her relationship with Thalia, his sister. Their story is suspenseful and will have you hooked from the start. I loved this book it was so well paced and didn't have any moments that dragged at all. I love how Damien cares for Oaklyn and tries to help her when shes struggling. I definitely recommend this. I had an absolute amazing time reading this.

I received this book for free. This does not impact my review in any shape or form.

Vacancy, by Linda Kage, is a new adult paranormal romance about learning how to overcome grief. Oaklynn is in a predicament; her best friend and girlfriend are kicking her out after realizing she’s listened to one too many sexual encounters and/or arguments. After walking around the Haverston College campus, she finds a vacant room owned by Thalia, who charges her a whopping $400 a month. Oaklynn celebrates her now affordable college residence, not realizing the dark history behind her discovery. Damien, on the other hand, finds himself questioning an arguably hot but crazy woman living in his deceased sister’s dormitory. He further challenges her sanity when she tells him that Thalia is her roommate despite his older sister being dead for over ten years. Damien realizes that Oaklynn might have a gift and decides to try to contact his sister through Oaklynn in secret, only to fall in love with her in the process.

I enjoyed the friend groups that both Damien and Oaklynn have. True, they’re cute together, but their friends are the primary reason why they’re as strong as they are. While I do feel that Jay cares for Oakylnn more than she’s letting on, her worrying about Oaklynn speaks volumes as to what female friendships could look like. The same can be said for the six around Damien. Although they make crass jokes from time to time, you can tell how much they care about Damien. They’re just as defensive of him as Jay is of Oaklynn. You get the sense that they really are family.

Something I laughed at was how much shit Jay and Damien gave Oaklynn for letting her crush guide her behavior. My husband did the same thing when I first came to his hometown. My mother-in-law even told me that I was lucky his family wasn't a bunch of serial killers. Did it go over my head at the time? Yes. Do I care? Not particularly. The recklessness worked, didn’t it?

However, I wasn't fully immersed in the story, and part of it was the number of cliches that Kage shoved into the plot. I doubt the seven would make that much of an impact on a bunch of newly turned eighteen-year-olds, even if they were handsome. It reminded me of a high school setting more than a college one. Moreover, although the ending was funny as hell, I cannot buy Oaklynn being close with her mother to the point where she’d call her about her mysterious powers. She rarely mentioned her mother at all in the story, if ever. I also felt Kage resolved the plot about Thalia’s murderer too quickly; the mystery and edge didn’t have enough time to get fleshed out. If anything, it was almost like a genre whiplash, going from spicy erotica to thriller mystery. It needed to be more integrated.

I did like this book and will be reading more in the series. The relationships are solid, and the character development is adorable and humorous. But certain plot lines could’ve been more fleshed out to where it felt more cohesive. So for now, I would give this book a 3 out of 5 stars.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved it!
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - Spicy

Overview:
Oaklyn's facing the consequences of her highschool party era - losing her shot at getting into her dream university. So now, at Haverick U community college, Oaklyn has decided it's time to stamp down her hormones, keep her nose in her books and focus on graduating with a bachelor's degree. Westport, Texas though is proving to be more costly then she expected so when a beautiful brownstone shows up for rent at an almost-too-good-to-be true price, she jumps at the chance to snag it and finally move out of her best friend's apartment. The place is amazing, Her new roommate is joy, her new landlord is HOT (so much for stamping down those hormones) and Westport is growing on her. Turns out, though, things that seem too good to be true might just be. The town holds secrets of an unsolved murder, her new beau is hiding something from her, and her new roommate is not of the living. Yeah, Oaklyn is in for one hell of a semester.

Thoughts:
Where do I even begin. I devoured this book like it was the air I needed to breathe.

Spicy, simmering romance - ✔️

Paranormal Activity- ✔️

College humour - ✔️

AND a murder mystery?? - ✔️✔️✔️

I'm in love.

Pace and buildup were amazing, keeping me hooked from the very first page. Plot had substance, making for such a great read. It's not very short but not overly long either. My e-reader clocked it at 404 pages. I finished it in a few days.

Absolutely loved the tension between the MFC & MMC and their explosive passion when they got together. I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I YESS!'d and hooted. Honestly, it was so good. Just read it, you won't be disappointed.

Some triggers: This story is filled with witty banter that you would expect from a bunch of college students, so if crass humour isn't your thing, this might not be for you. I personally found all the jokes hilarious.

Loss/Death, murder, kidnapping, and some violence are themes in the book, along with open door romance. All tastefully done, but be warned if that's not your thing. Otherwise, I think it's definitely worth a read.

Favourite Quotes:
"Because the creature before me could grab cute by the hair, spank its ass, and then make it call him daddy."
‐---------------

"That had to be the first time I’d ever stuck my foot so firmly into my mouth that I’d started talking out of my ass before."
----------------

"Oh, Mr. Landlord, sir! Come quickly. It’s just so… wet over here.”
----------------

"I’m like one of those prickly, exotic flowers, I guess. I only open for the sun. And she…….was not my sun"
----------------

"Don’t you realize you hold my heart and soul inside you now? I will do anything to protect that."
----------------

And my all-time favourite: "Now… roll" 🥵

VACANCY is the first book in The Seven and I am already desperate for the rest of them, but am so glad Hudson is coming up next. But I'm jumping. Let me tell you about this one first…

First off, I love Oaklynn's name. She is a strong character, even when things get tough. She is unapologetic about her past but has a plan for her present. Unfortunately for her, Damien is there to blow those plans out of the water.

I loved how it was written for Oaklynn and Thalia. Even though it was clear to the reader, Oaklynn's naivety made it perfect. I did find it hard when the revelations came out though, and my heart broke for Oaklynn for how everyone had treated her, even if I could 'maybe' understand the reasons for it.

Damien falls first and I love that trope, especially when it's written as well as it is here. He knows he has to tell her but hopes for just one more day. Until he has no choice. How he behaved after that made it realistic.

The Seven - oh, man. I love this lot. Such distinct personalities, going through so much, and having each others' backs. I can't wait to dive back into their world. And I'm really hoping Raina and Waverley are in there too somewhere. Jaylini, well, I didn't really warm to her so I'm not too bothered if she doesn't reappear.

The mystery side wasn't such a mystery, as it was pretty clear from the hints given who it was, but for me, it wasn't so much who it was, but rather how it was written and the reactions to it.

A brilliant story that I loved and HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

“Vacancy” has shot to the top of my list of favorite books I read in 2023, and with only a few weeks left in the year, this is a testament to how much I adored the story, because I have finished hundreds of other novels in the past eleven months. Everything about this book, from its quirky yet endearing characters, to its fast-paced and page-turning plot, kept me on my toes from start to finish.

Linda Kage is not a new-to-me author (I have been lucky enough to read several of her stories in the past), but there is something special about “Vacancy” that makes it stand apart from the rest of her catalog, and not just for the obvious reasons (like the supernatural elements, which were amazing). In particular, I found Damien and Oaklynn to be everything you could ever want in a couple — playful, kind, passionate, protective, and very considerate of each other’s feelings, not to mention that the chemistry between them nearly leaps off the pages. Their first kiss had me literally fanning myself, and every intimate interaction after that just further proved that they were meant for each other.

In addition to Damien and Oaklynn, the side characters in the book were fantastic as well. Thalia will steal (and break) your heart with every scene she appears in, and Damien’s group of close-knit friends are all so intriguing and dreamy in their own right; I am now very eager to get my hands on Hudson’s story next whenever it is published, because if it turns out to be anything like “Vacancy,” then it will surely be another five-star read.

Been a while since I read this author, so I was looking forward to this one, especially with the intriguing blurb.

"I wanted her. I wanted her with an intensity that made everything else unimportant."

Oaklynn Vargas can't keep sleeping on her bestie's sofa so even when a too-good-to-be-true vacancy pops up, she takes it. Her new roomie, Thalia, is fun but scarcely there, so it's like she has the whole place to herself. However, things get a bit confusing when the hottie she's been spying on bursts into her new home. Damien Archer is Thalia's not-so-little brother. They both have reason to be suspicious of the other, but when Damien realises that Oaklynn is unaware of her special gift, he's reluctant to be the one to turn her world upside down. More so when she might be the key to finding the answers he's been searching for the last ten years, and also when they get over their wariness and give in to their immense attraction to one another.

"I really, really liked the idea of being Damien's one and only. Because now, he was mine."

This story was different but fun. I loved the banter between the Seven - Damien and his six friends - as well as with Oaklynn. Their chemistry and passion was off the charts! 🔥🔥🔥 I also loved the vulnerability and emotion that Damien and his friends weren't afraid to show to each other. Damien was keeping a massive secret from Oaklynn, but I loved that she sparked him to life and made him realise there was more to life than his constant quest for answers. I also loved his sturdiness of nature and that she could rely and lean on him. This was a fab read and I can't wait to read about the other guys in the Seven.

This was a solid 3.5 stars. When I started reading the prologue, I knew I'd like this book.

I don't know why I thought the hero would be the ghost, though, lmao. Oaklynn is a transfer student at Haverick University looking for a place to live. When she sees a great brownstone for only $400, it seems too good to be true. Even better when her roommate's brother is the hottest guy.

The sex scenes were great. Damien was such a great lover. The sex scenes carried the book because not much happened until maybe 70% in. Oaklynn didn't know that her roommate, Thalia, was a ghost until maybe 65%!

Only when I drove home from the gym, where I finished this book, did I realize I still had some unanswered questions about the killer.

This book brought tears to my eyes a couple of times. I don't think anyone who has lost someone recently, especially a sibling, should read it because it'll be triggering. But I think this is a great paranormal new adult romance. I didn't know I would be getting into a college romance when I picked this up, which is always fun as I like when the characters are young.

Oaklynn isn't your typical virgin heroine either. She had hooked up a lot in the past.

Vacancy was such an exciting, refreshing start to this new series from Linda Kage. I actually really loved the paranormal aspect of the story, and the role it played during pivotal moments. I was thoroughly entertained and hungry to know how everything would play out in the end.

That said, it does feature one of my least favorite conflict devices: secrets. I found myself so frustrated with Damien at every bypassed opportunity for honesty. I loved the chemistry and the connection between Oaklynne and Damien, but he drove me straight-up nuts for a good portion of this book.

Even so, when the conflict did inevitably rear its ugly head, I didn't hate it. It's not my favorite plot device, but something about the way it was handled, and how quickly it was resolved, left me feeling satisfied and settled. The frustration paid off and I found the whole situation compelling and rewarding.

Most rewarding of all though? The seven. I loved this little found family, and the way they showed up and supported each other. The way they were unflinchingly honest with each other. The way they effortlessly stole my heart with their big hearts and their ridiculous antics. I'm so excited to spend lots more time with these characters and can't wait for more in this new series! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

In my mind, this book was the perfect blend of romance and supernatural (both genres I love). I was slightly worried going into this novel that the supernatural element was going to feel forced, and yet both elements felt to be perfectly balanced to me.

The romance element was flawed but super cute - I especially love the pairing of giving both characters investigative majors! The main conflict did feel a little inevitable (that’s what happens when you keep secrets in a relationship) and yet the way that both characters worked through and solved it was really heartwarming. As for the murder mystery / paranormal elements, having the mystery of who was murdered before the mystery of who did it was fun, and the investigative part of it was also interesting.

And oh boy… if this series is going the way I suspect and there’s going to be a book on each of ‘the Seven’ then I’m SO here for it. Kage manages to balance the characters of each of the guys perfectly, so that all of them feel unique, and I love all of them (especially Foster and Keene) so much that the idea that they might all end up with their own book brings me so much joy.

Overall, I genuinely loved reading this book! It’s my first experience of Linda Kage’s writing, but after reading this I definitely want to read more of her works, and especially the rest of this series!

College romance with secrets transitions to a thriller!
The prologue is touching when we first meet 10yo Damien who has suffered a tragic loss in his life. His parents feel that the newly opened Grief Counseling service will help Damien deal with his feelings. There he meets a group of guys who will become his best friends forever. Fast forward to his junior in college and a mysterious girl has rented an apartment in his rental property from his sister who has been dead for ten years! Oaklynn is friendly and has the most perfect dimples, which are his kryptonite. Through several mishaps and misunderstandings, they become friends with benefits. Can they be more since Oaklynn has dedicated herself to studying and graduating from college? Can she leave her past behind? For that matter, can Damien leave his past behind?
I loved this book. At first, I thought it was a fairly long book for a simple romance but when things got dicey, I realized why it was so long. Does everyone survive? Do they catch the murderer? If you like college romance with intrigue, passion and steam, you will want to read this one. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens. Now I need to read the stories for Thane, Parker, Foster, Keene, Alec and Hudson whose book is next in series.

My favorite part of this book was the dynamic between "the seven." They were so funny and supportive of each other. It was truly heartwarming. While Oaklynn's best friend didn't really do much for the story—she was just kind of flaky and selfish—Damien's friends were the type that everyone hopes to have. Damien was such a lovely character. He was sensitive, strong, thoughtful, and utterly dedicated to Oaklynn. I liked that he was respectful of Oaklynn's feelings while still pushing her to be the best version of herself.

The concept of the book was very unique and one I really enjoyed. The romance was on point, as was the dramatic tension surrounding Thalia's presence. However, I do think the pacing of the book dragged a bit, particularly toward the end. I also wish the resolution to the climax was given a bit more explanation and time. Nonetheless, the conclusion of the book was still quite satisfying and sweet.

Overall, this was a unique and exciting romance with unexpected twists. I highly recommend it.

What did I read just now??? This book is mind blowing! I read it in one sitting. This book has dual POV focuses on separate aspects of both the main lead, Damien and Oaklynn. I fell in love almost immediately with Oaklynn's energy spirit. There are some secondary characters who also have distinct personalities, and I hope to know more about Damien's friends too. Talking about the secondary character, I really liked Thalia at the beginning, I thought I would get to know more about her too. But the twist also spiced up the novel.

The writing is too good which makes this book unputdownable and also occasionally funny and entertaining. The tension between Damien and Oaklynn is too good to read, and I still can't get over them. There's a lot of romance and unexpected events so basically it never gets boring or cliche. Also there's some bit of humor too. I never expected myself to be so invested in this book, and will be waiting for the next book in this series.

Oh my gosh I loved this book! It was very well written and the character development was outstanding! I did not want to finish this book! Oaklynn has been staying with her best friend for too long and she’s desperate to find somewhere else to stay. Her and her best friend stumble upon a house with open windows and music playing. Oaklynn then meets Thalia and they hit it off and she becomes her new roommate. From that moment on we are taken through this very whimsical, exciting, hot and heartbreaking ride. Oaklynn has been ogling Damien Thalia’s baby brother every morning when he goes on his morning runs. These two immediately hit off with other as their chemistry was off the charts. Damien was just the perfect guy. This story was also heartbreaking as well. The author captures Damien’s pain for his sister all the while taking us on the journey to get justice for her. Outstanding work!

Almost DNF, but powered through. Lots of stuff that was cringeworthy for me.
Heroine and Hero calling each other ‚sir‘ and ‚ma‘am‘. Always pointing out what a party-girl the heroine was and how super-duper cool she was, gave me the impression that a teenager created the character.
Damien was kind of a wuss… I mean give me a strong alpha-type with a soft marshmallow-heart every day, but Damien was just too… mushy. I don’t like it if a man ‘whimpers’ or ‘sobs’, but maybe I’m sexist lol.
Skimmed most of the spicy scenes, probably because I was not invested in the romance.
The introduction of the murderer was REALLY clumsy. I mean I get that it’s mostly a romance, but a little bit of effort would have been nice.
Thalia was kind of a bitch and Oaklynn even thinks so herself and then does a 180 and luuuuvs Thalia.
Oaklynn’s best friend was insufferable….
I guess the whole thing was just too YA for me.

Vacancy is Book 1 of The Seven series by Linda Kage. This is my first book from this author but can not wait to read the rest of this series. I loved the love story with a side of the supernatural. Damien being haunted by the PTSD of finding his beloved sister murdered ten years prior and Oaklynn being haunted (literally) by said sister was the major hook of this story. The mystery of Thalia's murder and the disappearance of a college co-ed kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not put this book down because I had to find out what happened next. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all paranormal romance readers.

I was offered an arc for my review. Here’s what I thought.

Things I liked:

-the paranormal factor was fun and unique; it only took me a day to read because I didn’t want to put it down

-Damien; his character really is written as an ideal man

-Steam; it’s a hot one

-the seven; I loved these secondary characters—they had fun and unique personalities and I’m excited to read their stories now

Things I didn’t like as much:

-when the “big secret” comes out, I’m team Damien; his confessions were pretty gut wrenching so I felt like, while Oaklynne’s initial reaction might’ve been warranted, she should've melted a lot sooner

-Jaylani; she wasn’t around much and when she was, she just kinda annoyed me

Oh my goodness! There is a lot to really love about this story. There's lightness and laughs, sweet and heat, sadness and grief, intense heart pounding moments, and emotions. Damien and Oaklynn have this pull that makes it hard for them to ignore. Their story kept me involved, and the back and forth between them is great. They are each strong, lovable characters. I loved the paranormal element, it added to the story, and hit at those emotions as well. This close group of guys, The Seven, have a shared history that gives them this special connection. I loved them and I am so glad I found this series. I'm looking forward to each of their stories!

The intriguing fusion of mystery and romance will have readers gripped from start to finish. The narrative centers on Oaklynn, a college student who, after renting the ideal room, finds out that her roommate is actually a ghost. She must uncover the truth about her enigmatic landlord and the sordid past of the mansion as she gets involved in a web of peril and secrets. Readers are drawn into the story by Kage's captivating and suspenseful writing, which creates an engrossing atmosphere. Because the characters are likable and well-developed, it's simple to cheer for their survival and happiness. Vacancy is an exciting read with surprising turns that will leave you wanting more.

This is the first book from a new series from Linda Kage!!!! I love interconnected books!
I love mysteries and all that is about ghosts and I didn't know what to expect with this book because I didn't know if she'll keep it real or make it a little bit paranormal. Let me tell you she made it AMAZING!!
I loved how the story between Oaklynn and Damien evolved and I truly loved the friendship between the guys. I started crying from the prologue and I knew this book will wreck me.

I'm a big fan of Linda's writing and I cannot wait for the rest of the series. Although it is on a big draw with the FM' second generation's series :)).

This book was not at all what I was expecting… I was so glad I did read it!! I found this very intriguing plot, captivated by the first chapter, I wasn't confused at all as the mystery and suspense unfolded in the story..thank goodness the author has some humor, and witty banter, the found family with awesome friends that supports one another helped with crisis. I loved both Damien and Oaklynn's characters, they had such great chemistry and the sexy scenes were really toe curling😉. The ending was really enlightening and answered what few questions I had remaining.

Wow, what a fantastic start to a new series. I am not sure if this is the authors first foray into paranormal but it was so good. The “seven” are a perfect example of found family, and why I love that trope so much.
I loved both of the MC’s though I for sure think Damian should have opened his mouth a lot sooner to Oaklynn. There was so much emotion and heat between them and their relationship was beautiful. I also loved the way Oaklynn bonded with the rest of the seven.
I can’t wait for this series to continue. I know Hudson is next, but boy I am hanging out for Thane’s story.

Thank you to Booksirens and Linda Kage for the arc, and this is my honest opinion.
