Once, I was a broke college student. Now, it seems I'm destined to rule as the Lightbringer--queen of the demon realm. Except I have competition in the form of Orion, the Lord of Chaos. Like me, he has been marked as a leader. We can't keep our hands off each other, even if he swore an oath to kill me. It seems we both want the same thing--the crown. And in this battle of wills, only one of us will be left standing. Performed by Laura C. Harris, Gabriel Michael, Shanta Parasuraman, David Cui Cui, Bradley Foster Smith, Christopher Walker, Christopher Williams, Daniel Llaca, Eric Messner, Ken Jackson, Michael John Casey, Nanette Savard, Richard Rohan, Scott McCormick, Wyn Delano, and Yasmin Tuazon.

this wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I know for a fact that I would not have finished or continued this series if it wasn't in graphic audio form. Not much happened plot-wise, and character development was near zero. There was so much potential, but it fell pretty flat. I'm curious how it all ties together in the final book though.
I should have known this was going to happen. This author always finds a way to make her FMCs act out of characyer once the story gets going. I wish they would realize that a character acting erratic is not a plot twist, but a plot hole. I was loving this story amd then the author went and made the FMC jump the shark and all of a sudden, she's being manipulated with just a sentence or two by the lord of Chaos and she becomes this angry power hungry thing. The revenge aspect seems almost forgotten. It's irritating that she was manipulated so easily and that it seemed so unlike her nature
I'm trying to decide if I'm continuing. I love the graphic audios in general, but I don't know if it is worth it to me.
So I think I remember why I never read book 3 lol. This one was all over the place. I’m sorry but 1 “year” is not enough to drastically change SO much with no real motivator. Also I feel like this could all be in 1 book. Only reason I’m continuing to the last book is graphic audio lol.
Rowan really started to piss me off. Overnight she changed from a meek anxious human to a demon and let it all go to her head because now she wants to be a queen. She became so delusional and arrogant, and for what? She's not the most powerful or something and EVERYONE hates her and wants to kill her, and she thinks she'll be their queen?
The ending really pissed me off. Yes, it served her right for being this arrogant, but I was still feeling the unfairness of it all.
Orion is still a sarcastic king, but he also annoyed me at times.
“Thou shalt be stripped to the waist and whipped through town at the back of a cart.” “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”
I hated how they keep going back and forth. By the way this one ended, I'm going to assume the third book will continue down this path. I love enemies to lovers, but not for THREE WHOLE BOOKS. It's getting tiring at some point.
And DON'T get me started on the whole 'we need to be sexuality active in order to heal or regain strength' Yeah, I'm just ignoring this.
So here's some funny quotes to remember there are nice moments in the book
I heaved an exasperated sigh. “Can we please just go to Hell in peace?”
“Hell is not full of torments like you’d imagine,” he said. “It’s more boring than you’d expect. It’s like…Vermont.”
Every night, I go to sleep thinking of the sun exploding tomorrow because the scientists have got the calculations wrong.
I liked Rowan better when she was anxious.
I've been enjoying the graphic audio a lot. Helped me pushed through.
3.5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️ 0/5 😭 4/5 🎧 My opinion of this series hasn’t changed from book 1 — it’s entertaining but falls flat with character and world building. I listened at 2.5x speed.
Orion and Rowan are trying to figure out how to kill the king so Orion can rule. Rowan trying to be to prove that she’s not Mortanna. They go to the underworld to break their vow to kill each other. The underworld is some puritan hellscape where they live in the past. The vow gets broken. They part ways. Orion tries to kill the king. Rowan keeps dying in the puritan village. So she decides that she wants to rule the kingdom. She trains and goes to kill the king and Rowan swoops in and kills him at the last moment and becomes king. He then banishes her from the realm. She’s now going to go back and challenge him for the throne.
4/5⭐️ Feinde, Fast-Lovers, dann wieder... Rowan bleibt einfach so herrlich sarkastisch…I like. „Lord of Embers“ ist definitiv ein unterhaltsamer Ritt – auch wenn ein paar der heißen Szenen eher irgendwie erzwungen wirken. Aber hey, dreckig und lustig bleibt es trotzdem, und darauf kommt es doch an, oder? Ganz ehrlich: Ihre Streitereien sind tausendmal heißer als jedes Betthopping. Wer also auf Rache, Betrug, Drama und heiße Dämonen steht, ist hier genau richtig.
Basic Plot: Rowan learns some truths about herself, her family, and the situation in the City of Thorns.
I am really torn by these books. On the one hand, the characters (especially Orion) are damned unlikable, and the romance elements of the story are confusing as hell because of it. On the other, I just can't stop listening, and want to find out how the trilogy ends. It's like a train wreck and I can't look away. I know I'm going to be mad about the next book. I know I'm going to be mad when Rowan and Orion eventually end up together (it seems inevitable by the laws of fantasy romance), but I JUST CANNOT STOP. Ugh.
The world building gets a little more detail in this volume, but I'm a bit confused by the mythology of it. These guys are demons, with no mention of angels. There are gods for the demons, but no capital-G one. Christianity seems to not be a thing, but there were Puritans. I'm pretty baffled.
3,5-4⭐ OK, If anyone would like me to continue writing my reviews in English as well, please let me know in the comments. Just say that the 4⭐ are because of the dramatization. If not, this book would be 3,5, specially the first half of the book.
This book suffers from second book lull. If it wasn’t a graphic audio book, I don’t think I would’ve continued to finish this book. 80% of the book not much happened. The entire plot to move this series along happened in the last 20% of the book. I was frustrated that the FMC abandoned pretty much every one of her character traits for some convoluted revenge plan and quest for power. She didn’t act as herself in this book she was an entirely new character and it wasn’t character growth. She was easily manipulated for the MMC and I felt like it was laziness in the writing to go with that plot point to actually move this series forward. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with part 3.
Rowen has been kicked out of the City of Thorns and is wallowing until she she is discovered by Jack and his father, Rowen kills his father and has to run back to the City of Thorns so that she can get her demon powers back and heal. Orion finds her while she is digging to find out who she actually is. A deal is made and they head to the under world, Rowen must give a secret and in that she finds out what really happened to her mom. During her visit she is trained to use her powers to kill the King.
This is definitely a middle of the series book, story building and some twists. Not my favorite series by C.N. Crawford, but I am still enjoying it.
This book series wasn’t anything amazing by any means but it wasn’t terrible. It was really just something to listen to, to pass the time and it served its purpose. I felt like there was unnecessary drama at times, where I’d think… here we go again 😒 I do enjoy the graphic audiobooks as it makes you feel immersed in the book. I probably wouldn’t have finished this book series if it wasn’t in audiobook format.
I was hoping book 2 would pick up but it’s still on the slow side. The spicy scenes were poorly executed as well. I could just be used to darker more detailed books but this series didn’t do it for me.
Rowan and Orion are on fire, literally. And the graphic audio is just the cherry on top. Very much appreciated the dual POV in this book, it gave a richness to the development of the characters that I very much appreciated. And the revelations in this book just keep getting better and better.
I liked the production of the first book better. The narrator of Rowan seemed detached from what was going on at times. Very little chemistry could be felt - which could in part be because of the script.
