Those might be the three most relatable words in the whole Bible.
Who hasn't hoped for something? And—maybe more importantly—who hasn't been disappointed by a hope gone unfulfilled?
I had hoped he would quit drinking… she would come back… the cancer would be gone for good…
The list goes on.
On the very first Easter Sunday, two of Jesus' friends faced their own "I had hoped" moment. This poignant story, known as the Road to Emmaus, is one of the most beautiful narratives in the Bible.
Two people walk along a road, heartbroken that Jesus has died. Jesus joins them on their walk, but they don't recognize him. Slowly, though, hope returns to their weary hearts.
In this short book, we'll join these two friends on the road to Emmaus as Jesus walks them through five different mile

About the
Michael Murray is just a messy, broken guy trying to follow Jesus one step at a time. He was born with cerebral palsy, a disability that affects motor skills. Living life with CP has given Michael a unique perspective on God's grace and mercy. He writes books to share the good news that every single person matters to Jesus.
Michael and his wife Diana live in Orlando, FL, with their son Emmett and dog Ruby. He is a big fan of sweet tea, musicals, and writing about himself in the third person.
What an amazing book! I purchased it this evening, and I was not disappointed. Michael did a wonderful job. May you be revived on your “Hope Road” journey!
I love how this book it written. Michael does such a great job at bringing this story to life, placing you smack dab in the middle of the story and imagine you were there witnessing this whole exchange take place. How he writes reminds me of how my grandfather taught the word. Whether you are searching for hope feeling like you are going through hell, this book will help you take your broken hallelujah and turn it into an it is well hallelujah. I will say that I was hesitant on purchasing this book because I have been let down by devotional books before... but my soul burned within me as I read this. So much so that I didn't want to put it down and read the whole thing in about 2hrs (the same time it took the disciples to walk from Jerusalem to Emmaus). So if you just want a good read or if you are reaching for the light, I encourage you to take a chance on this book. It is money well spent. Upon finishing this book I immediately went to buy his other 3 books.
A short and easy read but one that profoundly helped me at the exact time I needed it. It brought up a lot of topics God had been showing me already and helped synthesize them. It breaks down a well-known story in a way I had never thought of before, and helped revolutionize the way I think about suffering and hope. I think all believers can understand this road and I would recommend it as encouragement to believers both new and old. I also appreciated the author’s voice and found it an enjoyable and lighthearted read despite the depth of the message. Would recommend!
This book came right on time. I read it right after Easter this year(2025) and our Sunday School book was on the story of the two gentlemen walking on the road to Emmas.
I love how Mr. Murray, broke down the story to sections or steps if you will of how the men were moving through their grief and then finally realization that God is not Dead but yet alive.
Love how he stresses that life is not always going to be perfect but just know that Jesus is always walking with you through it.
Michael has become one of my favorite authors of the last few years if not the favorite. He’s funny, thoughtful and a man of deep faith which makes for a wonderful combination of what seems like purposeful writing done with deep love for all of us. The way in which he describes and articulates the pivotal check points in the road to redemption make it one of the books where you can read the same chapter over and over again because it resonates so fully with a season you may be in.
Simple and yet profound dynamics of our journey in this broken world. Michael writes from having lived in each situation of his walk with Jesus to Emmaus.
Someone once said love faith and hope arer the 3 most important attributes of a christain. Love is the most powerful, faith is the most important and hope is the most rare. Read this book and be strengthened by it.
