Banner

She's a prude. I'm a player.
Her idea of fun is going to church. Mine is scoring— and I don't just mean on the football field.
So let's just say... we're a match never waiting to happen.

But for some reason, Mercy can't take the hint. She's been obsessed with me since grade school. Has stalked me for years. And no matter what I do, she won't leave me alone.

When a buddy of mine enlists me for help with a prank, I end up doing something I'll forever regret. On the plus side, I finally rid myself of the annoying girl.

Only thing is... I now can't shake these thoughts of her.

I'm beginning to wonder if the perfect girl has been chasing me down all these years, and I was too blind to see.

I loved every book in the series and I’ve been having a great time, until this one. Nothing about this worked for me.

For starters, it was distinctly less steamy than the previous stories, both because it was a much slower burn and because Mercy didn't want to have sex until marriage.

Then, while we were told that Mercy was a great person, I didn't really get the chance to see it. All I saw was: 1. the creepy, deluded stalking(which was not a good look) and 2. she was super Christian(which I felt neutral about). Also I guess she was also privately really horny? But like the religious thing, it wasn't really good or bad.

My most important gripe was this: I love a good hero's grovel in my romance, but in this case I don't think that Banner should have had to apologize for all that he did. The kiss and the conversation that followed it, yes, those things merited an apology. But the hero was made to repent for not being interested in Mercy for all the years that she had stalked him, and I think that's a crock of shit. Mercy's behavior would have made anyone uncomfortable. I've had a guy act toward me the way that Mercy did to Banner, and I can attest to the fact that it's deeply unpleasant and unnerving. We've all had crushes and I'm not trying to demonize the girl for it, but having someone so wrapped up in their fantasy of being with you that they ignore the reality of your clear non-interest can feel violating and scary pretty fast.

And that's what happened here. The heroine was so lost in her worship of Banner and her dream of being with him that she ignored him when he expressed his gentle, considerate-but-obvious lack of interest in her romantically. She would horn her way into sitting next to him in all their shared classes and stare at him constantly-even while he was actively hooking up with another girl! This went on for years. No matter how great of a person or attractive she was supposed to be in general, to him she acted like a cringy, adoring barnacle for years. Of course he was turned off by it. Who wouldn't be?

And yet somehow, this story twisted the narrative, so that in the end it was seen as Banner's folly that he was so blind as to miss the incredible woman that was right in front of him, rather than it being on Mercy's fault for acting like a wacko and making him uncomfortable for years. Banner was made to figuratively prostrate himself before her and beg forgiveness for feelings that seemed pretty reasonable and justified to me, and I thought that sucked.

Also, Banner's about-face seemed totally unbelievable and way too swift. She was like a curse laid upon him for years, going back to childhood, then he made out with her once and it was surprisingly hot, but resulted in the end of her crush. And then somehow, without any new significant interaction or any development of an actual connection between them, he was professing his love for her. I call bullshit.

Along the same lines, it didn't make sense that Drake also totally changed his tune toward Mercy at the same time and randomly started trying to push Banner towards her. Drake may have always liked her as a person, but the way he talked about her early in the story with Banner did not sound like he was thinking that Banner should open his eyes and see how lucky he was to have Mercy's attention. It sounded like he thought she was a stalker, which she was. Then he suddenly was talking to Banner like he should be going for it? Nah.

It was also awkward to me that the hero's complete 180 on his feelings toward the heroine was somehow paired with a complete 180 on religion. Like, he was notably not religious. But when became suddenly very into the very Christian heroine, and that meant that he was also super into God. It didn't feel believable.

I think it would have been cooler if, rather than making it a womanizer hero's redemption story, that both MCs grew as people, and they were able to meet in the middle and find their way back to each other. They probably would have done well with a couple-year long separation in the meantime. But I understand that this type of story would likely have been beyond the scope into the novella structure of the series, and therefore wouldn't have worked either.

Anyway, while this book didn’t work for me, it was a one-off, because this series has been super solid otherwise. It's a lot fun, totally addictive, and I love the characters. It's been my first experience with this author, and I'm so glad I found her because this has been great! I'm excited to read more of her stuff!

I’m loving this series! This is Banner and Mercy’s story and it’s beautiful. A case of he can’t see what’s right in front of him, but she knows it’s meant to be until it’s not. I loved the direction this book went and the spice was top notch! So good! I can’t wait for the next book! I received this book as an arc. This review is my own personal opinion.

Meh. The cover and title are extremely incongruous with the content. This book had religious undertones: the waiting until marriage. It didn’t resonate with me. It wasn’t a bad book, but there was little angst. I do enjoy the overheard trope. I was hoping there would be more bullying and conflict, and connection between the MC’s. This book was very tame. Banner, though a player, was not a bad person at all.

Not gonna lie I didn’t have any hope for Banner after reading about him in the previous books because he is the biggest manwhore to ever manwhore. Seriously he’s really bad and it makes it worse that he has sex with everyone out in the open for all to see. In the hallway, the cafeteria. And Mercy had to witness this all throughout the years. How she was still obsessed with him after that is beyond me.

I’m glad that Mercy finally let go of her obsession though once she heard what Banner said about her after they hooked up. He didn’t deserve any of her time or attention or adoration she so freely gave him. I loved watching him squirm when he finally realized that she no longer wanted him. He was going crazy. One minute he was talking about how much of a stalker she was and when she finally stopped he craved it so much. I liked that when he finally saw what was right in front of him he felt awful and saw what an amazing girl Mercy really is. I loved the way he pursued her and that she didn’t give in easily at all.

This easily could have been 5 stars had Banner not hooked up with a girl literally the day after he first hooked up with Mercy. The only reason I continued reading beyond that is because the hook up seemed forced. Like on the girls part, he wasn’t into it at all and she kind of backhandedly forced him into it. I mean he could have shoved her off but he was too worried about her messing up his reputation. So when that happened it definitely took a star off for me. I don’t think adding it in made anything better. It honestly wasn’t even needed.

I loved Banner for waiting to have sex til marriage like Mercy wanted. It showed how much he really loved her. I mean three years of no sex for the biggest manwhore? That’s something.

I am intrigued by Ava’s story but I’m not a ménage girl so I think I’m going to have to skip it.

CHEATING (to me at least, they aren’t together but he hooks up with someone the day after he hooks up with FMC)
OW DRAMA (see above)
LIGHT OM DRAMA (a guy like mercy and Banner is not happy about it)
VIRGIN FMC
SUPER MANWHORE MMC

Fright Fest is Banner and Mercy's story. What you get...
♡Childhood Crush
♡High School Friends Group
♡She's obsessed with him.
♡He thinks she's a stalker at first.
♡He's a Manwhore
♡He becomes obsessed/possessive.
♡She's a Virgin
♡Church scene 🥵🥵🥵
♡Soulmates

I love this series and was wondering how Banner and Mercy story was going to play out. He is blind to his perfect girl for years. He thinks he's going to be like his father. He chooses to have meaningless $*× with random girls, so he never hurts anyone. But he doesn't realize he is hurting his soulmate. I liked how their story turned out, but I wanted to smack Banner a time or two!!

Not a standalone. First book in series is Fright House. See series info in that review. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... PS: This was easily a 4 for me until the end dropped it to a 2.

Mercy (18, virgin) has had a crush on Banner (18, whore) since they were kids and he gave her a paper flower. They are in the same friend group, and she's just as smitten with him now as she was then, but Banner considers her more of a stalker. During Fright House, he tries to sidetrack her and ends up kissing her and making out. She thinks he's finally giving her a chance until she overhears him talking to Drake about how it was a mistake and he doesn't know how he'll get rid of his stalker now. Mercy is heartbroken and realizes that she has indeed been chasing after him all this time. Now she's ready to completely cut him out of her life. Banner has f*cked every girl in school, but now that he's tasted Mercy's lips, he can't stop thinking about her. It's only then that he realizes what a fool he's been because she's the best person he's ever known.
God, I’m such an idiot. All this time she’s been right under my nose. And I never fucking saw it.

The ONLY reason this one isn't getting 4 stars is because Mercy wants to wait until marriage to have sex, and when we finally get to that part, the author just fades out right when the cherry popping commences. I was like what the actual fuck! If the author had just followed through with the sex, it would have been a 4.

Banner and Mercy are up and they are...well, they have the opposites thing going for them. As in, Mercy is entirely devoted (and pretty much in love) with Banner and Banner doesn't feel the same. In fact, he refers to her as his stalker. That said, all it took was one night to upend their awareness of one another.

By that, I mean Mercy and Banner have an epic make out session and then Mercy finds out what Banner thinks of her and...it hurts her. A lot. So she stops following him around. She stops smiling at him when she sees him. She tries to ignore all the fluttery feelings he ignites in her just by being Banner. And Banner finds out that he doesn't like not having her attention. He doesn't like when she ignores him. He doesn't like when she's not smiling in his direction.

In fact, it takes her NOT being there for him to realize she was the one he was looking for all along.

One heavy make-out session, some not so great home issues, a truly terrible date, a guy who doesn't realize what he has until he almost loses it, and a lady who follows her heart from the start. *thumbs up*

“The thought of losing you nearly destroyed me. My heart beats for you, baby. You’re my purpose. My calling in this life. You’re my destiny.”

This one is my favourite of the series so far. The storyline made the most complete sense. Two 18 year olds. One a Christian who's saving herself until marriage, and one a football star who only seeks out meaningless flings. Mercy has been in love with Banner since second grade when he was kind to her and defended her against bullies. But it's not until Banner goes too far with Mercy that she realises that he really is a playboy and she is just the most recent person that he's seduced. However, when Mercy removes herself from his life, he finally realises what he had and what he's lost.

I'm glad I kept going with this series. This storyline was one of the ones I was most curious about. And I am SO excited to find out what happens with Ava's story. She is the one that has been thr most secretive, so I really want to know how this story finishes.

I was surprised with this one. I will admit that yes, there are still the corny bits in it that make the teenage girl in me squeal with delight (because what teen girl wasn't always wishing that the guy of her dreams would *finally* notice her, right?) but it's also so well thought out. While the others that I have read so far gave me a bit of a giggle in how they were put together, this one flowed more organically. And also gave light to the idea of "absence makes the heart grow fonder".

Imagine that you've been trying to "rid yourself" of the one person who you thought would drive you crazy because they were just always there. Only to find yourself missing everything about them when they finally give in and give up. These two are a match made in heaven (oh yes, pun intended) and the way they end up makes me giddy for more.

Though at this point, I'm begging (literally *begging*) to find out what is going on with Ava because all of these notes and little hints about how she is "theirs" is making me shiver. I can't wait to see what's next to come.

What to Expect:
••» Opposites Attract
••» Playboy x Good Girl
••» Childhood Crush
••» She Falls First, and He Falls Harder/Obsessed
••» Halloween Novella
••» Haunted House
••» High School Friend Group

Fright Fest is the fourth book in Laundry Hill's Fright Series, and it’s hands down my favorite of them all. All the books in this series are fast-paced, but this one really stands out, especially with how quickly the MMC realizes he’s messed up. The story flowed so well, and it’s a perfect case of “he didn’t know what he had until it was gone.” I loved how the FMC put herself first after overhearing his hurtful comments—she didn’t just brush them off, and I was totally rooting for her. Watching him step up and prove he could be the man she needed was so satisfying. It’s definitely my top pick from the series.

I have been looking forward to this book ever since reading the first, and like everyone else I really didn’t like Banner, and tbh the jury is still out on if I like him more now or not lmao

I guess I just didn’t like the whole “she’s not seeking my out anymore and now I’ve realized I love her and she’s the one for me” bc it just seemed to happen way too fast (especially a weird revelation to have after dry humping) and I get that this is a novella so we can’t expect major character development, but I just kinda wish there was a little more to it and that it didn’t just take 2 people spelling it out for him to get it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Overall this was probably the book I enjoyed the most compared to the first 3 and I’m really looking forward to Ava’s book.

Opposites Attract meets good grovel

Fun opposites attract story set in high school around Halloween. The playboy and the virgin. She's been in love with him since 2nd grade until the tables turn, and he's now the one obsessed but on the outside. The author writes a good, solid grovel here. Technically, it can be read as a standalone, but this one is better read with the interconnected stories. No cliffhanger. No cheating in that they don't touch others once they've committed, but he was definitely a playboy. Happy ending, although I would have loved to see it circle back around to Fright House epilogue in the haunted house.

I haven’t read any others from the series but this one. I saw it recommended on a FB group so I decided to try it. I didn’t hate it, I wasn’t board, but wasn’t very interested either.

MMC didn’t like that the FMC was stalking him for basically a decade, however he kisses her once and all of a sudden does a 180 and wants to marry her. It was so sudden. He honestly seems like such a sweet guy deep down. If the book was longer there would have been more build up involved. The couple didn’t actually get together until 75% ish through the book and by that point there was maybe 20 pages left.

I rolled my eyes SO hard on his apologies. They were so OTT and dramatic.

I absolutely loved this novella. I loved that Banner considered Mercy to be his stalker and then as soon as he lost her he became hers and because just as obsessed with her as she was with him. I also loved the confession booth scene that’s finally brought them together not only was it adorable and so loving it was also steamy. I also loved the ending and that Banner respected Mercy’s wishes and waited 3 years to finally be able to have sex with her and take her virginity on their wedding night. Overall I would 100% recommend this novella it was absolutely amazing.

I love that Banner didn't 'see' Mercy as anything but a st@lker until he fell head over heels for her. Mercy is such a nice, loving, caring young woman, and she fell in love with Banner at a young age. She was so patient for him to realize she was his other half and never made him feel bad about his s3xipades. I loved watching Banner grovel and beg for forgiveness once he realized she was it for him. And his patience at the ending spoke so much about how deeply he loved her.

Quickest comeback ever

Not gonna lie Banner's behavior disgusted me. No prob with sleeping with others but dude handled it all wrong. He still doesn't deserve Mercy but like her name she is mercifully forgiving. And still in love with him. I liked that he became a j/p/p beast. 🔥💦 I was honestly waiting for the 'daddy' scene but none came! 😢

3⭐️⭐️⭐️

I liked the overheard trope, where she suddenly doesn’t want to like the hero because of what he said.

The grovel was good and I actually wanna read other stories. But this is definitely $mut, so if anyone’s intention is to read something deep or with layered characters, this is not the book.

I mean, I get it. I guess this book was written for the church girl is but it just seems very unrealistic. That’s just not even anyway we fit in the series. I guess close the chapter, but I found it to be boring.
