Set against the backdrop of the beloved Nutcracker Tale, Saving Sugar Plum is an enchanting and steamy contemporary billionaire romance novella perfect for the holiday season.
Clara, a talented professional ballerina has dreamed of dancing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy her entire life and is determined to move up the ranks in her company.
Delano, a closed off billionaire hotel tycoon, is a donor to multiple ballet companies in honor of his late mother.
Their worlds collide at Clara's Fall ballet season opening gala where sparks ignite between them. With Clara dedicated to her dance career in New York and Delano rooted in London, they agree that their connection can only exist for one unforgettable night.
However, fate has different plans when Clara is given the opportunity to dance her dream role as a guest artist with the London Ballet. Both Delano and Clara are eager to reunite in London come Winter. But when Delano witnesses Clara being the target of her manipulative and unsavory director, he threatens the director and convinces him to let Clara leave for London earlier than expected.
As their relationship deepens in London, Clara and Delano are faced with their own fears with the impending departure of Clara back to New York after the Nutcracker season concludes. Will Clara and Delano find a a way to unite their lives across continents or will their careers get in the way of love?

I really wanted to love this one but I decided put it down at 63%. The premise was cute and I was extremely excited for this to be one of my holiday reads, but ultimately it fell extremely flat for me. I wish I had more positive things to say about this one, but I ended up having several problems with the novella as a whole.
The first was that there were some things I found to be problematic, specifically in the way the FMC addresses ballet’s tumultuous culture around food and thinness. It’s a very real problem in the industry that still exists today and statements from the FMC regarding this were very insensitive to the pressure put on dancers starting from a very young age. Quotes like, “I’ve always been naturally lean, but I love to eat” and “The stereotype that ballerinas starve themselves is, unfortunately, partially true. I've known plenty of dancers who deny themselves the pleasures of real meals in exchange for scraps out of fear. My own eating habits have thankfully not been affected by those dangerous thoughts. I f**king love food, and I will not be shamed otherwise” almost make a mockery of an extremely real problem. It reads as “I’m not like the other girls” and shaming people who struggle with body image or ED. As someone who has lingering body dysmorphia from my years in the dance world, I found it to be a bit triggering.
I also had a few issues with some of the language surrounding the dance world. The FMC said so many things that had me scratching my head like, no professional dancer I know would ever say anything like that. This probably wouldn’t bother most people, but as someone who worked in the professional ballet industry for years, it really took me out of the book and made it far less believable.
The plot fell extremely flat for me as it was just a copy and paste of the most cliché dance trope that we’ve seen a million times in dance movies for years and years - the predatory company director abuses his status to pressure dancers into having inappropriate workplace relationships with him. This very much exists in the dance world, but in this novella it’s almost glossed over and just used as a device to push the FMC and MMC together. It really lost me when the FMC essentially gets m*lested by the director in front of the entire company but gets over it extremely quickly and then proceeds to hook up with the MMC, who at this point is still basically a stranger that has pretty strongly inserted himself into her life, a couple of hours later.
Lastly, it really lacked any character or relationship development. Now, I’m fully aware that this is a novella so things are condensed, but I’ve read plenty of novellas that have achieved both wonderful character and relationship development. I just couldn’t bring myself to be invested in the characters or their love story as they were so one dimensional. I’m usually a fan of an insta-love trope but this one just didn’t do it for me.
A lot of these critiques are very specific to my experience in the professional ballet industry, so please do with this what you will. I’m glad others have been able to enjoy this novella, it just really wasn’t for me.
This was such a sweet story. The Nutcracker is one of my favorite ballets so it was fun to imagine the main character dancing on stage. Such a whirlwind romance with just enough spice. Although one does not want to read any kind of abuse that happens to women, I am glad this book touches on the type of abuse that can happen with a dancing company. I also appreciate the trigger wanrings at the beginning of the book.
I received an ARC for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you Michelle Moras for the opportunity to read and review your new book.
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I read and finished this book in one day! This book is completely adorable, I loved it. The story is sweet and engrossing, I got lost in the world building, New York, London and Barcelona all described beautifully. I hope to read more by this author.
Saving Sugarplum by Michelle Moras, is the first book in the Ballerinas & Billionaires Series, brings us the story of Clara Stahl, a beautiful girl who since she was very little has dreamed of ballet and being a dancer, today, as part of the American Ballet, she is working to achieve that dream and especially to become the main one in the staging of the Nutcracker, but there are some things, the policies and the opportunities stolen by dancers “pleased” with their director, that for her have always been hard to bear, but she doesn't let that distract her from her dream. One night, after a presentation, she must attend a gala where she must sit with one of the ballet's beneficiaries, but she never imagined that the man she was supposed to share a table with would leave her breathless. Delano Hoffman is a multimillionaire hotel magnate, who continually donates to the ballet and attends its performances with his grandparents, as a way to honor the memory of his mother, who was a dancer in life, although for him these nights are somewhat tedious and he does it more to please his grandparents, he would never imagine being completely captivated by a beautiful dancer during a performance. Determined to get to know her, he pulls the strings to get closer to her, that night seems magical between them both, and when Clara gets the chance she has dreamed of with the London Ballet, he will take this opportunity to spend more time together, to conquer her and when the time comes, also to protect her, except that their time together can only be temporary since for her, her life is in New York and he, because of his work, his life is around the world, only that when the time comes it will not be so easy to say goodbye. A sweet, charming story, with wonderful characters, an instant connection that will make you sigh and fall in love with them. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end and I want more from this new author who with each book shows us her versatility in writing worlds that are so different, but so beautifully described. Highly recommended! *Thanks to Michelle Moras for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*
¡Altamente Recomendada! *Gracias a Michelle Moras por mi ARC. Dejo voluntariamente mi reseña honesta*
This book was lovely! I love ballet and I especially love Tchaikovsky so this book already had me hooked.
The MMC was a nice billionaire, which seems strange to say, but the reasoning behind who he was and how he got there was enough for me to think "Yay! He's cool." He was a wonderful fellow, and to be honest, that's all I really need most of the time in my romance!
The FMC was a sweetheart and the story is mostly about her, and her journey upwards in a ballet and a Big Choice. She was nice but not "look how nice I am nice", and her emotional journey, especially when she had to choose her choice, was really great to go through with her.
The spice was well-written and had some rather neat little tricks here and there, because you know, ballerina.
I have a christmas list of spicy romances and, even though this is only party related to christmas, it's still going on there because it's such a sweet little read!
After viewing a Nutcracker performance one night with her parents Clara quickly fell in love with the art of ballet. Watching how gracefully the dancers were up on that stage she wished it was her. And then it was, her hard work landed her in the American Ballet Company, her dreams to becoming a principal dancer almost in reach.
Delano, has been with models, public figures, and other prolific women, but never a ballerina. Every time he saw one they would remind him of his mother, and how he tragically lost her. He wanted nothing to do with ballerinas, until he saw Clara upon that stage, he was so enamored by her beauty and grace that he just had to know who she was that night after her performance!
This was such a beautifully written book, I enjoyed it so much! It was a Nutcracker retelling where we got to see Clara our FMC pursue her dreams of becoming a principal ballerina. The MCs had so much instant chemistry that sometimes I don't know how Delano managed when he wasn't around Clara!😭💕
The Ballerina and Billionaires series is a reimagining of famous ballets, this one is perfect for the holidays… a SPICY rendition of The Nutcracker!!
This story follows Clara, an ambitious ballerina in New York City who has set her sights on fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a principal dancer. After the sudden and tragic death of his mother, the billionaire hotel mogul Delano, despises the ballet. Despite his deep loathing for the ballet, he attends a performance to fulfil a commitment he made. As the dancers take the stage, he is mesmerized by Clara and knows that this is the love of his life. At the gala following the performance, they meet face to face, sparks fly and its instant love. However, there is a dilemma, does she stay in NYC to pursue her dreams, or follow Delano to London and hope she finds her happily ever after?
Heat almost straight out of the gate, this love at first sight story with a broody alpha-hole MMC who is a cinnamon roll with a soft spot for his one and only and a HEA will have you in the festive holiday spirit.
This is my second time being an arc reader for Michelle and I am blown away yet again. I love how Michelle writes, it is effortless, seemless and such an easy read. This book is definitely one to snuggle up under a blanket with this festive season. I do wish there was more to this book (as I'm very greedy for a good story and always need more) but it is a perfect novella.
The worldbuilding and character building is next to none, I adore Clara and love Delano. They're sugar, spice and all things nice. You need to add this book to your festive tbr!! Thank you again Michelle for sending me your amazing book to read and review, it is a pleasure like always.
"Saving Sugarplum" is a delightful, quick, and spicy read that showcases Michelle's versatility as an author. Completley contrasting with her book "Cursed by Splendor," she proves her success in various genres.
The novel serves as the introduction to the "Ballerinas and Billionaires" series, telling the tale of Clara and Delano. Clara, a dedicated ballet dancer, is on the cusp of realizing her lifelong dream of becoming a principal dancer. Delano, a wealthy hotel magnate, harbors a deep-seated aversion to ballet due to haunting memories of his mother, a ballerina who met a tragic end. However, when he attends a ballet performance out of obligation, he falls immediately upon seeing Clara on stage. Once they meet at the gala after the ballet, sparks fly.
I enjoyed the contrast between the delicate, yet determined ballerina and the billionaire bad boy with a heart of gold. The spice and their chemistry was fantastic. While there's an element of insta-love, which is not my favorite, it is entirely expected given the novella format.
"Saving Sugarplum" is an excellent choice for a short and steamy holiday read that transports readers to captivating locales such as NYC, London, and Barcelona. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Michelle for providing the early access copy, and it's worth noting that all opinions expressed here are entirely my own. <3
In this book A girl has a vision of her future and is strongly working towards it
The main character is working hard to achieve her goal in the dance world. There is some describing of what goes on in the dance world with some directors and they're underhanded ways. It's a realistic look at the dance world I believe. However something wonderful happens a man. The ups and downs there short relationship Keep to the story. I think there were some parts I thought it was too fast too soon, but who am I to judge.
This was a pretty cute and steamy Christmas novella. It’s about a billionaire who falls in love with a ballerina after seeing her perform. It is insta love. The book takes place in London and New York which feels so Christmassy to me. There were a lot of cute moments in the book that I liked and times where I wish I got more detail it is very short because it’s a novella so sometimes it feels like scenes were skipped over. I loved the billionaire x ballerina trope and this is first in a series of billionaire x ballerina romances so I’m excited for the rest of them.
I was lucky enough to beta read this book and omg it totally put me in the holiday mood! You can tell Michelle was familiar with the ballet world, and I just loved how she effortlessly portrayed it all. The vibes were magical and sweet, the romance spicy and heart-warming. If you love a broody billionaire with a soft spot only for her, then you will love this story! It's the perfect holiday read 💖 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶/5
I think this is quite literally made to have a cheesy little steamy romance to read fast when the end of the year is coming.
It's a 2.5 stars for me. Nothing is too elaborated on here, which makes it a little bit difficult to get through because it tells everything rather than showing.
Either way, it's not anything that I wasn't expecting; I loved the male main character and the chemistry between him and the female main character. The ballet environment was a great plus to everything.
This novel is the first book of the Ballerinas and Billionaires series. It is a quick read, at only 127 pages on Kindle and I devoured this in one day. If you’re like me and you hate summer, this was a nice little read to get you into the Christmas spirit.
The story revolves around Clara, who is a ballerina in New York City, looking to make it big in her career. She meets Delano, a billionaire who lives in London and they instantly fall in love. She is faced with the tough decision of perusing her childhood dream in New York, or taking a leap of faith and taking a different path in London to be with her true love.
This was such a cute read with the perfect amount of spice. I’m looking forward to reading the second book, Reviving Vivi💕
This was a cute holiday book. If you’re looking for a fast paced romantic book then I recommend this for you. I wish it was a bit longer and had more character development. Parts of it seemed rushed. However, it is a novella. But overall it is a fun story of a ballerina meeting her billionaire prince with a great HEA.
A fun, quick, easy read that’s perfect for the Holiday season.
Michelle is excellent at writing a quick developing relationship with lots of steamy goodness. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Billionaires & Ballerinas novellas!
I DEVOURED this book. This book had so many of my favorite tropes: insta-love, he falls first (and harder!!), “just for now”… 🥵💗 if you’re looking for a short and spicy holiday read, this is for you!! 🫶🫶
A ballerina/billionaire Nutcracker inspired spicy holiday novella! What an absolute gem! A perfect way to spend a December evening. I absolutely loved all of the Nutcracker references throughout. Highly recommend!
Clara and Dalano had a perfect insta-love Christmas story. I enjoyed this from start to finish. I wish we had more. Like I could easily read a three-hundred-page book about them. His dirty mouth and his fun ways to eat chocolate IYKYK. A perfect holiday read!
This was a super cute yet spicy retelling of The Nutcracker. The perfect novella for the Christmas season. I loved how each chapter was entitled after a variation from the ballet. I'm so glad I picked this one up.
What was this pacing?? A very short book feat insta-love. basically admitting they love eachother 12 hours after meeting, like burn the world down kind of love??
Poor writing, no chemistry. Bookstagram did me dirty…..again. Sigh.
Such a cute novella! Moras writes a very sweet and wholesome Nutcracker retelling that is as sweet as the sugar plum fairy herself!
Tropes: Billionaire Romance Insta-love Long Distance Love at first sight
This novella is a quick read that will leave the reader feeling warm and fuzzy. I think this is the perfect transtion read for after halloween and right before Christmas. Honestly, it made me want to go see the ballet again and I am looking forward to the holiday season! Clara (rightfully named) is an ambitious girl who gets to live her dream of being the Prima of the ballet in London! and Delano spots her from the box seats and falls instantly in love with her grace and elegance.
Phew....This is a SPICY book. Doesn't take very long for things to heat up. Absolutely a wonderful Christmas read. Oh and if you read this book, please read the Epilogue. It's the cutest thing!!!
