Are you in a job that you hate because you "should" be there? Throughout your life, have you been told that you "have to" go to college, and get a lucrative job, like in law or corporate finance? After that, are you "supposed" to get married, take on a lot of debt when buying a house, and have the appropriate number of children? On your deathbed, forty or fifty years from now, are you going to look back and think "What did I do with my life?" For those not interested in such a life, this book may help.

First of all, recognize the programming of what you should do with your life. The message could be from society in general, or parents who only want (what they have been taught is) the best for you. Next, look inside yourself. What are you passionate about? What did you enjoy doing when you were young? What hobbies or interests got pushed aside when you entered the working world? Is there a way to turn your interest in cooking, or playing a musical instrument (for instance) into a career? Have you ever wanted to keep working while living in a foreign country? Look up the words "digital nomad."

There are a million diet/exercise plans available. The best one for you is the one that you will stick with, all the time. Consider severely de-cluttering your life. You need to be brutal in getting rid of clothes that you will never wear, monthly subscriptions on your credit card that you don't use, and time-wasting meetings and e-mail threads at work. It might help you get closer to "it," whatever you are passionate about.

This is a gem of a book. If a person can only move in this direction, but not get all the way to "passion-land," it is still a very good thing. It is very easy to read, and very much worth reading.

📚 Breaking the shells of anxiety and suffering.

In this book, the author shares a heartfelt journey from uncertainty to a life filled with purpose, love, and connection. The book urges readers to identify energy-draining elements, release suffering, and embrace joy, purpose, and clarity.

The narrative begins acknowledging the dissonance between who we are and how we live along with story of Joe. Through his wonderful craft of storytelling, he reassures readers that this struggle indicates a yearning for self-expression, not madness.

The author emphasizes overcoming mental traps imposed by societal and childhood programming, presenting a roadmap with insights from personal experiences. Practical advice encompasses identifying anxiety sources, planning a fulfilling life, and prioritizing doing over learning.

What I liked most was the author's vulnerability, inviting readers to rediscover truths and embark on a purpose-driven journey. Relatable anecdotes enhance accessibility, connecting theory with real-world experiences.

Throughout the chapters, the author emphasizes self-awareness and provides practical strategies for cultivating positive habits. The actionable advice highlights tangible steps to apply insights to readers' lives.

In summary, the book is a valuable resource for transformation and resilience. Whether seeking clarity, well-being, or overcoming challenges, it is an insightful guide on the journey to mastering life-shaping habits.

A deep personal look.

In Breakthrough, Joe Thomsett offers a thoughtful guide to finding alignment, fulfillment, and purpose in life. Drawing from personal experience, Thomsett provides an accessible roadmap for identifying energy-draining anxieties and letting go of suffering. His insights on taking responsibility, pursuing passions, and designing an intentional lifestyle prove both enlightening and actionable.

While covering self-help fundamentals, Thomsett succeeds in making the content feel fresh and deeply personal. His candid chronicle of self-discovery lends authenticity to the advice. However, more concrete examples demonstrating the techniques would further strengthen the book. And the framing device of telling the author's story sometimes distracts from the core message.

Nonetheless, Breakthrough succeeds as a compassionate call to live consciously. It encourages readers to excavate societal programming and reconnect with inner truths. Those feeling lost or unfulfilled will find inspiration in Thomsett's vulnerability and wisdom. By blending memoir with prescriptive guidance, the book lights the way to greater purpose and fulfillment.

I managed to read this self-help book from cover to cover in the span of a day (for those of you looking for a quick and concise read). What I favored most about this book, in comparison to others of “self-help” category, is its emphasis to reach out and build positive relationships (whether it be with nurturing self, or making it a priority to designate setting quality time with your significant other, your child, to weeding out “frenemies” and devoting time connecting with supportive, encouraging, non-toxic circle of friends/family) rather than just focusing on oneself to self-help alone. Personally, my self-reflective “a-ha” that I will take-away with me from this book is The Authors emphasis on the importance of The Reader understanding their values and goals for self as well their partner’s with the common goal to nurture and grow their relationship. I also found the guidance in realizing anxiety seeded during childhood and recognizing adulthood triggers, taking a step back to journal, reflect, and then apologize, helpful.

Joe Thomsett's self-help book offers the reader a blueprint to discover themselves so they can grow. The reader learns how to identify and get rid of anything that depletes their energy and creates emotional distress to build a purposeful life The importance of taking responsibility for one's lifestyle is a major emphasis. People must choose a desired lifestyle by the decisions they make. Lifestyle design is an important idea the author pushes: intentionally putting together a life that lines up with all interests and goals. The book is divided into three parts: Identifying and Releasing the Factors That Drain Your Energy, Finding Your Purpose and Connection, and Designing Your Lifestyle Setting Goals. Managing time effectively, and maintaining a budget are important points of discourse. You will appreciate the book more than many similar self-help guides because the author emphasizes action and implementation instead of only learning.

Honest and real!

Joe Thomsett has written one of the most honest books I have read in a while. He basically points out how humans have gotten off track. He calls it a copy of a copy, where we have forgotten who we uniquely are, and what we want to do with our lives. Having a Breakthrough means living in resonance with your being and building on your natural talents to pursue your idealised-self. It’s about doing the deep work and intense self-reflection. Becoming self-aware can be the most difficult part for some people though. Joe shows us how to make it happen. Definitely recommend this to anyone who is stuck in the rat race.

A classic work that teaches us to be in pursuit of meaning in life

Joe Thomsett's work is truly one of the most honest books that I've read in a long time. He basically shows how humanity has deviated from its original path. Living in tandem with your being and expanding your innate skills to pursue your idealized self is what it means to have a Breakthrough. It all comes down to doing the hard work and intensive self-reflection. For some people, becoming self-aware and living with that self is the most challenging element. Joe demonstrates how to make it happen. Anyone who feels stuck in their life will find a lot of help in this book.
