New Beginnings #1

Eryn King of the Brawl - Original Version: We Are Not Alone

Rate this book
What if the world constantly restarted with a New Beginning , what would it look like? Where would it restart and where is the head and where is the tail of this big circle of life on Earth? Who is responsible for it all and how did it happen? South Africa, 21 A.T., was like Antarctica, cold, dark, and barren. Nothing should be able to survive in the Brawl’s nest, but Eryn and his brothers did. Eryn slipped in and out of the mines all his life to visit Phoenix, the last vestige of human civilization. Mika and Connor’s twins captivated him. So, he splits his priorities between his frog family and the human family he longed to join. Using his empathic monarchical power, he forces them to hibernate while he snuck through Phoenix, watching the twins grow up. He longed to join them, but Eryn’s egg brother Ernest is cunning and a psycho cannibalistic frog man. Eryn’s opposite in every way. To save the humans and be free, he has to eliminate them, but he’s not a murderer. Thus, isolating himself, making life complicated. This fast-paced rescue mission uncovers millennia-old secrets and the true origin of humans. Mika and Connor can’t understand their boys’ infatuation with Eryn. Maybe it’s Stockholm, but one thing’s for sure, Eryn’s double-dipping. He would go to lengths to please them. Sharing comes naturally to Ivan and Cian, like sharing an ice cream. What to Eryn, King of the Brawl is the second book in a planned post-apocalyptic sci-fi fantasy series featuring gifted otherworldly paranormal beings falling in love. This story has explicit and graphic depictions of imprisonment, violence, blood, and gore. It is unsuitable for young and sensitive readers or anyone offended by gay sex. “I found it surprisingly beautiful. In a brutal, horribly uncomfortable sort of way.” ―Tyrion Lannister to Janos Slynt.

I am a Canadian speculative fiction author, writing in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and paranormal.
My writing explores who we are, where we come from, and where we are going as a human race on Earth.
I enjoy weaving and exploring questions and subjects about our history and origin by creating new, exciting worlds and characters. My stories are unpredictable, twisted with a dash of humor, and centered on gay characters.
You will question your existence among these worlds and wish you could escape to these places filled with foul-mouthed heroes who struggle and strive to save humankind.

Eryn, King of the Brawl (New Beginnings)o
Narrated by Johnathan Waters

I'm not big on science fiction stories, but wow, this one sucked me into a vibrant world. Kashel knows how to write a story that sucks you in from the first word, and when the book ends, you want MORE. The depth of the story that was told was fantastic; it was not only good but HOT. The way Kashel pulled you into the story of trying to rescue them to find out that their children are gone. The way you felt for the people in this story was so strong for me that, as I said, I didn't want this story to end. Thank you, Kashel, for helping us to escape into a wonderful book when you need a break from life.

A Fascinating & Action-Packed Story! Amazing Narration & Audio Listen🎧

The Brawl King
We Are Not Alone (New Beginnings Trilogy, Book 2)
By: Kashel Char
Narrated by: Jonathan Waters

This fascinating science fiction paranormal romance novel grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. I enjoyed Kashel Char’s writing style, the interesting and imaginative storylines are original, they hold a lot of depth and Kashel put a lot of thought into them. The world building and character development is fantastic too. Speaking of the characters, they were easy to relate to and connect with, easy to care about too. This is a fast-moving story and there is never a dull moment. After a rescue and recovery of one of their own they learn their children are gone, abducted and taken to an old mine shaft, so the team had to go on another rescue mission and they were not expecting to find what they did, the boys freed themselves with the help of Eryn, a DNA manipulated person who has traits of a frog. Twin brothers Ivan and Cian set the record straight about Eryn and they all return to Phoenix, bringing some research notes with them. The twins and Eryn formed a bond, it was so much more than an infatuation. Eryn lived a lonely life and has experienced little, which leaves him naïve and socially inept, but he is a fast learner, plus he brings a lot to the table for the group, information they could use and more truths get revealed, some are mind-blowing and thought provoking. There is never a dull moment in this fast moving and action-packed story, it has the perfect balance of drama, some witty humor to lighten things up, twists and turns, some thrilling moments, a touch of angst, heartfelt emotions and some streamy scenes and romance. Kashel Char, thank you for this amazing story and entertaining and wild rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧   And for the amazing narration, Jonathan Waters was the perfect narrator to bring these characters and story to life. HIs character voices were fantastic and so was his portrayal of each one. He understood who they were, gave each a voice that suited that character, accent and all, and was believable in every role he played. I loved how animated he sounded and how he humanized the characters with their personality and emotions, all of which were heard in his performance. Waters is a versatile voice artist and an entertaining storyteller who is a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this fabulous listen.

good story

I would recommend that you read The Phoenix Code first so that you can understand who the characters are. I enjoyed this book and if you like a book that keeps giving you more questions that need answers then this a book for you, I am looking forward to the next book to see how the men of Phoenix are doing after the big changes that happened.

This was a wonderful sci-fi story. The storyline was very interesting with some violence and gore but lots of action and amazing characters. You get a little of everything in this story from imprisonment to DNA manipulation. The main characters are on a rescue mission and the adventure is none stop. Great read.

Such an enthralling story - I love Kashel Char’s imagination and the clear thought that has gone on about the future of the human race and Earth. Kashel Char’s work really leaves you thinking every little time you leave it and I love the humour interwoven in it.

I loved the development of Eryn as a character and his relationship with the twins. I was really interested in how that developed as there is no relationship other than brotherly between the two of them.

And now I can’t wait to start on the next installment to see how Cian’s story progresses!

I would recommend if you haven’t read any of Kashel’s work that you start with New Beginnings and definitely check out any trigger warnings before you read.

One of the best continuing series I have read for awhile.

"I may be an odd-looking boy, but I’m not a stupid little boy"

This is book 2 in the series, New Beginnings by Kashel Char.

So much happened in this book my head is still reeling. I can't figure out if I like it as much as I liked book one, there's so much to absorb. This was a bit of a departure from book one. Book one was a little bit more joyful/carefree as the guys navigated through their new world. This story got more into the nitty gritty as the years have passed. I guess it would be considered a realistic view after having been trapped in the Antarctic for all these years.

Cian and Ivan Romanov, OMG, where to start... I just wanted to throttle these 2. For being 21 years of age they were more like 12 year old boys. Definitely spoiled rotten. Most of the time I spent thinking Eryn deserved better, although being so naive and innocent maybe those two were just what he needed.

Are they all just pawns in a game that hasn't been explained? Is it all just plots within plots?

I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out in audio! Narrator, Jonathan Waters, did a fantastic job and all the voices are amazing.

Emotional rollercoaster

With book three out now, I wanted to read the special edition to see what changes were made. The changes were a little more subtle than from the first book but still added to the overarching storyline of the series. So I stand by my original review of: Wow! Just . . . wow! There are like a million things I could write about this amazing book but I don't want to spoil the experience for others. Because this wasn't just New Beginnings part two, this was an experience. There were so many plot twists, turns, and surprises. I was on an emotional rollercoaster as I listened to this book: I laughed often, I cried (you know what scene I'm referring to), and I gasped in shock many times. Once again Lasitor and the morning announcements were a nice touch and offered little bits of foreshadowing. Kashel Char is a genius storyteller. I love their world building, their characters, and the mythology involved in this story. Part 3, here I come! I need to know what happens.

A new author for me in print and I read this without reading the previous book with no problem. I am, however, about to go back and read that one because I found this one so interesting. I enjoyed the world building, the adventure elements and found the characters and their relationships well developed with plenty of steam. Update: I've now listened to book one on audio and it's fantastic to, both the story and the audio performance.

The first book in Kashel Char’s New Beginnings M/M series, Eryn, King of the Brawl, is an absolute five-star gem. As a debut novel, Char shines in crafting a rich blend of science fiction and fantasy, creating a world that’s not only immersive but one you’ll wish you could step into. The world-building is detailed and sophisticated, from the unique species and cultures to the vivid landscapes, all of which make this universe feel fully realized. Every setting feels alive, and Char’s deft touch at world-building keeps the pacing lively and fast-paced—never a dull moment.

Eryn, a frog/human hybrid, embarks on a daring rescue mission that brings him into contact with the twin brothers Ivan and Cian. The bonds that form between them are heartwarming and layered with emotional depth. Eryn is complex: though he’s lonely and naïve, his growth is both poignant and believable. As he slowly sheds his innocence, he becomes an indispensable part of the group, offering insights and uncovering truths that turn the plot on its head. His naivety isn't a weakness—it's a gateway for deeper emotional exploration and the unfolding of a fascinating journey.

What stands out in this debut is Char's ability to flesh out a diverse array of characters, each with their own motivations, quirks, and backstories. These layers make the stakes feel all the more real, and I found myself eagerly flipping pages to see what would happen next.

I also want to highlight the audiobook experience, which added an extra layer of richness to the story. Listening while reading the eBook, I was struck by Jonathan Waters’ brilliant narration. He gave each character a unique voice, and his skill with a large cast of diverse personalities truly felt like a full-cast performance. Waters didn’t just read the story—he brought it to life, adding emotional depth and nuance to every scene.

With such a strong debut, I’m excited to see where Kashel Char takes this series next. Eryn, King of the Brawl is a captivating start that promises even greater things to come. If you’re a fan of science fiction and fantasy, or simply looking for a well-crafted, character-driven story, this book is one you won’t want to miss.

I am in love this series !!! This captivating science fiction paranormal romance novel immediately seized my attention and held it throughout the entire book. I was truly impressed by Kashel Char's writing style, which delivered original and imaginative storylines with remarkable depth and thoughtful execution. The world-building and character development in this novel are nothing short of fantastic.

Speaking of the characters, they were remarkably relatable and easy to connect with, making it effortless to care about their fates. The fast-paced nature of the story ensured there was never a dull moment. Following a daring rescue and recovery mission, the team faced the shocking revelation that their children had been abducted and taken to an old mine shaft. This led to yet another rescue mission, one they had not anticipated, and the discoveries they made were truly unexpected.

The bond formed between twin brothers Ivan and Cian and Eryn went beyond mere infatuation. Eryn, a DNA-manipulated individual with frog-like traits, had lived a sheltered and lonely life, rendering him socially naive and inept. However, his rapid adaptability and the valuable information he brought to the group made him an indispensable member. The story continued to unravel, revealing mind-blowing and thought-provoking truths.

This fast-moving, action-packed narrative strikes the perfect balance between drama, witty humor, twists and turns, thrilling moments, a touch of angst, heartfelt emotions, and sizzling romance. Kashel Char, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for this incredible story and the thrilling rollercoaster ride it provided.

As for the narration, Jonathan Waters proved to be the ideal choice to breathe life into these characters and the story. His character voices were exceptional, staying true to each character's persona, complete with suitable accents, making their portrayal utterly believable. I admired the animated and humanized quality he brought to the characters, effectively conveying their personalities and emotions. Waters is a versatile voice artist and a delightful storyteller, making the listening experience a true pleasure. Don't be the one hearing about it , be the one talking about it !!!

I would highly recommend reading the prequel so you can get some context. This is such a wonderful and complex world. There are many characters to keep track of.

My favorite established couples are still Mika/Connor and Brad/Rick...but we get to meet some next-gen Phoenicians. Mika and Connor's twin boys Ivan and Cian and of course Eryn who's pretty much the star of the whole book.

This story makes you turn things over in your head. It's got some pretty wild ideas along with some super dirty sexy times. I was sad however when

Thank you for my review copy.
Reading the blurb grabbed my attention. To my surprise, I was hooked right from the first page. This second book is totally the opposite of book one. Lots of paranormal, and I can’t say more or I will spoil the surprises.
I loved the unpredictable storyline. Interesting characters. Lots of plot lines, and they are stunningly brought together. I loved the twists and turns. The sex scenes with three fumbling virgins grew into more. I guess book three will reveal that. Very funny, entertaining, and hot AF. Not a cliffhanger, but HFN.
