Pointy ears-check, third-eye induced headaches-check, fighting against a Dark Phoenix Griffin who wants to turn you into the Ultimate Weapon to kill the king... not happening. At Seventeen, Sophie Emerson discovers her identity as a Spirit fae at the prestigious Earwyn Academy of Concordia. It is an identity she welcomes. She can do without the skull-splitting headaches induced by learning to control her clairvoyant powers, though. She'll also love it if someone can tell her why she sees herself in a dream surrounded by nine children who are channeling their powers into her to become a monster that will destroy Concordia. When three kids disappear from the village, Sophie learns that the Dark Griffin abducted six other children two years ago. The dream shows her she is the last piece to become the Dark Griffin's Ultimate Weapon, and he will abduct her next. Sophie needs a plan when she wakes up in a cell with the nine other children. One that will stop herself from becoming this weapon, save the abducted children, and stop an undefeated Griffin. Being magical shouldn't be this stressful! She would have preferred to remain human, thank you very much.

I've read a few of Woods' other series, but this was my first encounter with Legacy Born.
I instantly liked the voice of this story, and the word choice and description really gave it life. Events were very exciting right from the start, and I was hooked immediately. The flow was great and the character development, along with the bulding of both chemistry and suspense kept me cruising along through this one.
Things got very exciting as I approached the end, and I was so invested in seeing how things were going to turn out for Sophie and Drake.
I loved this story, and I can't wait to see what will come next!!

This was a great beginning to a new series–it introduces us to a new world, the different creatures, and a glimpse into the political issues bubbling under the surface. We follow Sophie as she is thrown into this new world, learns whom to trust, makes new friends, and carves a place for herself. I enjoyed the well built world with its complex magic system, well developed characters, and well paced story telling. I look forward to reading the next book to find out how the story develops.

I received an ARC, this is my honest review.

This book sucked me in and I read it in two days. The tropes of a magic school, shifters, fae, and a secret world tossed with some PG Romance were there. But the take on it was very unique. The political drama with various factions was interesting and well-developed. It does end in a cliff hanger. Grr…

Sophie is a feisty character. She doesn’t accept her fate easily and is very strong-willed. Drake and his squadron have awesome personalities. The lore is built into the book.

Good read and I’m glad I got a copy of this book!

It was an amazing book. It honestly took awhile to get hooked but when I did I really enjoyed it!

The slow burn of this book is amazing. I really liked how well the character and world building was written! The friendships and enemies to lovers in this book was well written.

I hope there is more spice in the next book, which I can’t wait to read! I would recommend this book to anyone!

Sophie is in the hospital because no one knows why she has such terrible headaches- truly debilitating. I really should call them epic migraines. Mrs. Emerson, Sophie’s adopted mom, kisses her goodbye while they take her to the OR. All of the doctors and nurses go through the motions. Then something weird happens. They start talking about creatures. Then it gets scary! Drake goes in and busts her out, she can hear everything, but can’t do anything about it. Once she wakes up, she fights Drake who shapeshifts into something amazing. There is another world besides the mundane and there are fae and many types of shapeshifters or magical creatures that can take human form. The writing style was awesome. The descriptions of the mischief and mayhem contained in this book was truly fantabulous! I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I WANT THE NEXT BOOK NOW! Lol. It reminded me of when I started reading Marion Zimmer Bradley and Andre Norton when I was a preteen. EPIC. A must read for anyone who likes magic and mayhem with fae, magical creatures and mundanes who hunt them.

I felt a vast variety of emotions while reading this book. I loved Drake and Xander. Both of them were very nicely written into the story. The author knows how to write in a way that makes it feel like you're experiencing what the people in the book are. I loved it when they got to the academy, I wanted it to be real because it was so beautifully described. The copy of the book I got was the copy sent to the editors, so there were some grammar errors, but we were told that in advance. Overall, this was a nice book that I would recommend to people who love books with body shifters

I was drawn to this book because of its description—magic, shifters, and high-stakes mystery? It sounded right up my alley, so I decided to give it a try!

That said, while I enjoyed the book overall, I did feel at times like it wasn’t necessarily aimed at my age group. And that’s perfectly okay! The story still had plenty to offer. One of the highlights for me was the world-building. I loved learning about Earwyn, the history of their realm, and the fascinating creatures that inhabit it. The lore behind the Legacies and their unique powers also stood out as a strong point. The idea that Legacies are passed down and tied to individuals’ identities gives the story a sense of inherited responsibility, which makes Sophie’s journey of self-discovery even more compelling!

However, I did feel that the pacing could have been smoother, particularly in how information and terminology were presented. Much of the world-building is delivered in rapid bursts, which made it hard to keep track of what was what. I often found myself wishing the book had more moments to “breathe.”

The characters themselves are a mix of strengths and weaknesses. I loved Sophie’s sass—it makes her instantly relatable and fun to follow. Drake’s brooding personality provides an interesting counterbalance to Sophie’s sharp wit, and their dynamic shows promise for deeper development in future installments. That said, some of the supporting characters felt rushed in their introductions. While intriguing, they sometimes seemed more like tools to push the plot forward rather than fully realized individuals. Taking more time to develop these characters and their relationships with Sophie could have made their interactions more emotionally impactful.

The first 200 pages, in particular, felt a bit rushed, with a lot of action and exposition competing for attention. However, once the story found its footing, the pacing improved significantly, and the adventure truly began to shine. By the end, I was completely invested in Sophie’s journey and the secrets of this magical world.

Despite its flaws, Shifted is an exciting start to what promises to be a thrilling series. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the second book!

Thank you to BookSirens and the authors, Adrienne Woods and Carlyle Labuschagne, for providing me with a free copy of this book and allowing me to be a first-time ARC reviewer. I truly appreciated the opportunity to experience this story and share my thoughts.

I really enjoyed reading this book so much that it was very difficult to stop reading. The authors did a very good job not only on the vivid world building but the well done character development all throughout. You are immediately pulled into the action from the beginning and are captivated by everything the authors introduce to us. I honestly didn’t feel as though the book ever reached a slow point because of the engaging narrative all throughout. Every chapter pulled you further and further into this magical fantasy world. The flow of events was always moving forward making it very easy to follow and understand what was happening.

The authors did an incredible job describing the different races of this fantasy world that was not too overwhelming or information overload and then introducing us to some of the magical creatures and beings. I personally fell in love with many of the characters in the book and found that I could relate to them in some way or the other.

I see this book becoming an incredible series with so much more to come. We have a great foundation of the fantasy world and the races within it to dive into the next installment. I can’t wait to see what they have in stored next.

I received an advanced review copy of this book and I am leaving a review willingly. I highly recommend everyone to read this fabulously and captivating fantasy novel that takes readers on a journey into a world of magic, fae, and adventure. Hopefully you love it as much as I did.

Shifted, Book 1 in the Legacy Born series by Adrienne Woods and Carlyle Labuschagne, is an action filled romp that was a joy to read. While the paranormal academy trope has been done so many times before, this setting felt fresh and new and drew me in. The cast of Fae and creatures populating the school are very interesting and I felt like a part of their world.

The FMC, Sophie, was rescued by Drake, the MMC, from an evil organization and brought to the school. I enjoyed following her journey as her powers slowly developed as she found out more about the supernatural world she has suddenly been thrust into. Her attraction to the MMC Drake felt very authentic, and I was pulling for their HEA during the whole book.

The villains Sophie sees in her visions and the human organization threatening the supernatural creatures cause believable and interesting conflicts. Danger abounds and keeps the suspense level high. I was heartsick at some points when the newfound gang of friends suffered heartbreaking casualties during their missions.

I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers of all ages, not just young adults. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and am eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series. There are at least two more books in the series, so lots of loose ends are left hanging to be resolved in the next books.

This book was enjoyable to read. It follows the classic plot line typical of these books. That said there are enough plot variations and details that are different to make reading it quite enjoyable. The authors did enough world building to give a reader a good idea of how things work there, but don't overwhelm the reader with useless/pointless details. Throughout the book I found myself wanting to keep reading and know more. I did appreciate that the heroes in this book are not perfect or infallible.

The writing style itself is smooth and flowing which makes reading easy and enjoyable. There are not the sudden jumps, missing information, or overly detailed descriptions that make so many other books hard to read or follow.

I received a free advanced copy of this book, in return for an honest review of the book. As an advanced copy, there were some editing issues that need to be made before this is released for general sale, but the author had an upfront acknowledgement about that. If those edits are made, it will make the book even easier to read and more enjoyable. I enjoyed reading this book enough that I would have actually found buying it worthwhile.

Love the premise, one I was excited to read.

Sophie is a likeable, sassy character, rescued from her old human life and dropped into a world of fae, magic and other-worldly creatures - where she learns she is one of them.

Straight off the bat it feels as though I’m a bit old for this one, there’s no depth to the romantic relationship and the book reads a little robotic - other than Maverick whose accent shines through and I really enjoyed.

I’m not a huge fan of how many things are thrust at the reader right from the get go, from the lengthy descriptions of rooms and places that don’t grip me and my eyes seem to skip through, to the multitude of different creatures - I’m a simple creature myself and it’s a bit much for me to keep up with.

The spelling of the text messages is just ridiculous, my heart breaks for 2002 but it’s awful to read in 2024.

There are multiple typos in the ARC I read.

To summarise, the world building is thorough, the characters likeable and the plot has great potential but it wasn’t a smooth read and felt clunky.

Thank you to BookSirens for the ARC.

Sophie Emerson leads a seemingly ordinary life, but everything changes when she begins experiencing bizarre dreams and intense headaches. We dive into her harrowing journey as she finds herself in a hospital, prepped for surgery. Just as the anesthetic takes hold, she realizes, in a terrifying twist, that she’s not truly unconscious—her surgeon has sinister intentions!

Just when all seems lost, Drake bursts into the operating room to rescue her, but instead of relief, Sophie feels like a victim of kidnapping. This shocking turn of events spirals her into chaos. As Sophie grapples with her unsettling new reality, she uncovers the truth: she’s not human after all, but a formidable Fea with untapped powers.

As the plot thickens, Sophie is haunted by questions about her unique visions that others can't see—why are factions hunting her down, eager to eliminate her, while others seek to exploit her abilities for their own agendas? With a cast of intriguing characters and a pulse-pounding storyline, this tale is an exhilarating ride that grips you from start to finish!

The good:
This book kept me on my toes toward the end, the story is so enthralling and I really liked the dynamic between all the characters, including the annoying ones. I liked the character development and how some of their feelings are described.

(I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)

The not-so-good:
I found that there were a lot of words missing, some grammatical errors and some typos here and there. There were also a lot of cut sentences or half-repeated sentences that threw me off the story and did not make some chapters an enjoyable reading experience since I had to go back to the beginning of the sentence/paragraph to try and understand what they were saying or check if what I was getting from it was right.

The other thing I didn’t like so much is the way the conversations are written, sometimes I couldn’t tell who was saying what, mostly when there were more than 2 characters in the same conversation.

Despite the not-so-good things, this story captivated me and I’ll start with the next book right away.

Okey. It started pretty high on adrenaline and I was immediately luving the set scene on the story.

The kidnapping-saving, magical animals, forbidden luv interest is really all my turn on button.

However when they got to the Academy I felt it went from an action-fantasy movie to a travel channel (so thats why its 3,5 rounded to 4) and had a lot of long descriptive scenes and rather fet like filling up the atory with facts and descriptive forgettable moments… until really almost to 65-70% of the book. Than again we went back to action mode and I again just couldnt put it down…

While I enjoyed the lot of magical creaturs and abilities I prefered when they were mor coversations, teasing or action.

So all in all a good book with fantastic fauna and fae as well as while HE kinda but still more to come ending… I may be back to B2 ;)

I just finished Shifted and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! At first, the pacing threw me off a bit- with it starting so fast and throwing you straight in, making me a little nervous about how the story would unfold. But, I devoured this story. It was not a problem. This is a great example of how you can take some common fantasy themes and tropes and make them feel like something fresh. Sophie's journey of discovering her identity at Earwyn Academy has magic, mystery, and high stakes. The world-building is intriguing and while we've only scratched the surface of Concordia and its lore, what's there is already so compelling. I'm hooked on the characters and their stories. I love Maverick. I have so many questions- about Sophie, about Drake, about what's coming next. AND THAT ENDING has me dying to know what happens in the next book. I can't wait to dig deeper into this series and see where it goes! I received this as an ARC and this review is my opinion.

Thankyou @booksirens for the copy of #Shifted by @adrienneyoungbooks &@carlyle_labuschagne

Sophie Emerson's world is suddenly turned upside down as she literally wakes up in the hands/ claws of a Phoenix Griffin shifter, Drake. At 17, Sophie discovers her identity as a rare Spirit fae at the prestigious Earwyn Academy of Concordia.

She is plunged into a world of magic and mythical creatures and as a novice fae plagued by headaches and confusion of her identity, she goes on a journey and makes some epic friends along the way. Those friends come in handy when someone wants to turn you into the Ultimate Weapon to kill the King.....

I enjoyed binging this tonight, it was easy to imagine the world and get hooked into the bond that Sophie and Drake shared. This is book 1 of 5 - looking to see how the drama develops

If you want a comparison. It is a YA version of Zodiac Academy. I devoured it about 6 hours. I couldn’t put it down. A “human” taken from the human world into the magical world to save her from certain death. An Academy with different types of Shapeshifters and Fae. Sophie discovers that she is a very powerful Spirit Fae and that headaches that she has had during her life in the mundane world have a purpose.
The world-building and the political stances make for an intriguing EPIC FANTASY World that I can not wait to delve deeper into. The authors did a wonderful job of sucking you in and keeping excitement building throughout. It ends on a cliffhanger, which stinks, but it gives you enough to want to come back and see where they take it.

Imma go with a 4.75 on this one!!! First of all, thank you to the authors for the ARC!

This book was an absolute stunner for me. You have mythical creatures and fae and all the fun things. The only real downfalls for me were the weird punctuations, some scenes seemed overwritten while others fell slightly underwritten? This seemed like a mash between Winx and Men in Black, which was super neat. I found myself awake at 0430 trying to finish it but forced myself to slow down and really enjoy the remaining 40 pages. Overall, a grand ol' time!!! I am VERY excited to read the rest of the series! (legit foaming at the mouth)

Now... SPOILERS AHEAD

It's pretty obvious that our FMC is half Pheonix, so I am dying to see where this goes.

Shifted, book 1 of the Legacy Born series is a fantasy adventure with loads of action right from the start. The FMC is Sophie, who suffers from horribly painful headaches without any answers from this world as to why. She is super sassy, stubborn, and self-aware even when she's dropped into a world she never knew existed.
I loved the world building, character development, and the banter between all the characters. If you are into magical creatures, a magical school, with mystery, and action, I believe this is the book/series for you. Thank you to Booksirens and the authors for this arc copy. I really enjoyed this book, and I'm excited to start book 2, Cursed, since Shifted ended on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to find out where Sophie's story goes and what happens next.

Shifted is book 1 in the Legacy Born Series and it is a fantastic beginning. Sophie's journey is filled with plenty of action, suspense, mystery, magic, friendship and amazing creatures. Although most of the story setting is Earwyn Academy - it is not the typical Academy read. While figuring out what she is -Sophie is also trying to unravel the mystery of missing children. I love the friendships/relationships she makes along the way and I know this comraderie will give us great adventures. I look forward to book 2

Okayyyy so I love it, truly I did. I’m not lying when I say I finished the book on 2 days! Read it!

The book starts out a little slow, which is to be expected, when get to understand our main character and the world building, which by the way is one of my favorite things about the book, the authors did a fantastic job on the magical world, all the politics, history, the academy, I love it all! If you like a fated mates kinda trope, which I do you will love this, not to mention there is like a love triangle kinda and academy drama

Can’t wait for the sequel !

Wow just wow! This was so good. Couldn't put it down, can't wait to dive into the second book. The magic is fun, and incorporates fun matches. The keys are a very cool traveling mechanic that I want to know more about. The author did a great job pulling me in right from the start of the book, and the twists and turns were not what I expected. She left the book in a place where I NEED to read the next book. NEED to.

This book was surprisingly good! I went into it without any prior knowledge of the author and was pleasantly surprised. It truly has it all! The world and character-building were excellent, and the pace remained steady and entertaining throughout. I'm so glad I have the second book, as I want to continue exploring this world and its surroundings.

It features a secret evil society, a magic school, a damsel in distress, and a hint of romance, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.

Thank you, Booksirens, for the e-ARC of this book!

This was a joyful surprise! I like it when stories are different and more than what I expect. Like some of the previous stories before this one, I felt like this one was just as smart and real. The characters acted and reacted well. The plot was simple and entertaining. It was mostly a fast read but had some pacing issues, at least for me. There were numerous grammatical errors but nothing serious enough to take away from the story. Overall, this was enjoyable and I look forward to the next one!

I wish I could have rated this a zero stars book. I was SO hopeful and intrigued by the summary. I didn’t even get a quarter of the way through it before stopping. This was an extremely poorly edited book. I didn’t read anything about the author until AFTER I thought maybe they didn’t speak English as a first language. There were so many diction and word errors, I couldn’t get past it, and I ended up just letting it go. Not worth the time and effort of having to reread sentences multiple times due to the errors. What a disappointment!

Loved the book the story line and the characters. The blurb was so enticing that I had to try it. The premise is so original and easy to follow. Lots of action and intrigue and some clean love scenes. I loved Sophie she was such a hoot. She had her values and knew what was right and would not waver. Drake was a bit slow on the up take but once he clued in he was all in.

I’ll be honest it’s a little long but SO good! Every part has to be in it though. I binge read this! It is absolutely so good! I first read Firebolt by Adrienne Woods and knew I’d love everything she writes including this series. I can’t wait for book two! I am addicted! I’m so excited to see what else Sophie gets herself into! It hooked me from the first chapter! So unique and different. Would 10/10 recommend!

ARC Reader Review received from BookSirens... 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ rounded up!!

I absolutely loved this book!! Sometimes it takes a few chapters to be drawn in... But not with this book. I already need to know what is going to happen next!!

The character development was priceless. The Enemies to Lovers, amazing, hopefully we get more spice... That's all I'm sayin'.

The friendships and banter really add so much to this book as well. Highly recommend!
