Nailing a murderer is difficult… but so is dealing with a cranky talking dog.
When the owner of Hammer and Nail Hardware is found dead, Gina's most loyal customer, Erika, becomes the prime suspect.
Despite having every reason to kill Molly Burton, Erika vehemently denies involvement and pleads with Gina to help uncover the real murderer. With almost all evidence pointing to Erika, Gina and her talking dog, Daisy, along with Deputy Trevor Hutchinson, delve into the secrets concealed behind the aisles of the hardware store. However, the clues they unearth leave them with more questions than answers.
Adding to the chaos, Gina takes in a bonded pair of dogs who prefer solitude. Daisy is determined to break them up, despite Gina's pleas to let them be.
As danger escalates, can Gina and Daisy hammer out the details and expose the true murderer?
USA Today bestselling author Carly Winter writes fun, small town cozy mysteries, always with a dash of humor and quirky characters. When not writing, you can find her spending time with her family, on a Pilates reformer or enjoying the fantastic Arizona weather (except summer - she doesn't like summer). She does like dogs, wine and chocolate and wishes Christmas happened twice a year.
I cannot believe how fast I fly through these books! They are the ultimate cozy- small town, a funny and sassy protagonist, hell bent on solving the crime and dogs! There is nothing better than dogs!!
Gina is back! She is getting ready for a nail appointment with one of her regulars, Erika when Trevor tells her that Erika has been arrested for murder, refuses to talk to the police, and will only talk to her. Erika explains that she had just been fired by her boss’s heinous wife and even though she was devastated at the loss of a job she loved, she did not kill him.
Gina agrees to investigate. In the midst of her crime solving, Gina gets a call from a fellow dog rescuer asking for her to dog sit two of his charges while he is out of town. The pair, frank and Marilyn are super bonded, which drives Gina’s dog, daisy, nuts. How does Gina know? Because daisy can communicate with Gina.
The only negative I have about this book is I feel like there were a couple lose ends. A couple people that were brought in that were left dangling and a couple sub plots that weren’t totally explained.
Otherwise, another great installment and I am just drooling for more!

I just love how no one can hear her dog except for Gina. This mystery turned out to be a surprise. Trevor needs Gina's help to solve this murder. She refuses Trevor's request to help but little by little she gets drawn in. I really enjoyed reading this story and I look forward to the next story.

There’s been another murder in Heywood and though Gina doesn’t know the victim she gets dragged into the investigation when one of her clients refuses to speak to anyone but her. What seems at once cut and dry turns out to be a bit more complicated or is it? So many suspects, so many motives how will Gina get to the bottom of this one? Great story and I loved the complex simplicity of it. Really loved that we got some Annabelle shenanigans too!! The little subplot with Daisy and the two new rescues was wacky fun. A completely enjoyable story!.

Like dogs? You're going to love Daisy, the talking dog. Her sheer joy is adorable, as are her childlike pouts. Gina struggles to keep her ability to talk with her dog a secret but it's becoming increasingly difficult. Maybe more so since she's spending so much time hanging out with Deputy Trevor Hutchinson. Daisy's sense of humor seems to mean she likes to trick Gina into responding to her when he's around. There also seems to be a romance bubbling just under the surface, so I'm looking forward to the next installment. One thing I particularly like, of course, is Gina's focus on rescue. Unfortunately, Daisy doesn't always get along with the temporary guests in her house, frequently giving Gina a major guilt trip. The good news is, a happy solution is always found by book's end.
In any case, on to the mystery/murder investigation. Who killed Molly, wife of the local hardware store owner? Gina is astonished to learn that Erika, the initial suspect because she was recently fired by Molly, won't talk to anyone at the police station but her. Why? Maybe equally concerning, why is Erika involved with such a control freak boyfriend? Could he have killed Molly to protect Erika? How will Trevor and Gina sort out the romantic entanglements? Was the husband simply clearing the way to marrying the new girlfriend by killing off his wife? Will Gina find herself in danger? Oh, bet you can guess the answer to that one. And, what does Trevor know about Gina's mother that she refuses to let him share with her?
Okay, enough teasers? You'll like the quirky characters and humor of the story, much of it provided by Daisy. Annabelle can always be depended on, too, for a wild scheme to catch a killer or, for that matter, simply get revenge. She's a fun carry-over from the previous series this one is based on. The story is fast paced, with ample twists and red herrings, not to mention viable suspects. Give it a read. It's a quick, easy read that, quite frankly, I found hard to put down once I started reading. Thanks #BookSirens and author #CarlyWinter for allowing me this early peek at what's going on with Gina, Daisy, and Trevor. Looking forward to my next visit.
Heywood Hounds is one of my favorite series right now and Carly Winter is a master cozy mystery storyteller. I just love Gina, the nail salon owner and her talking dog Daisy who keep finding themselves in the middle of murder investigations. In "Furballs and Fatalities" when the wife of the hardware store owner is discovered dead in the store, the suspect list is long and it's going to take Gina and Daisy together to figure this one out.
This series comes on the heels of the Heywood Herbalist series, which is so good that when the first in the Heywood Hounds series came out, I knew I'd have to read it and boy has it been a great one. I love the whole talking dog angle, but the mysteries are detailed and complicated with multiple possible suspects that Gina and Daisy have to sift through, and I have to try to solve. Lots of red herrings and false leads make this a murder mystery that will test your amateur sleuthing skills.
Daisy is a typical "Diva" dog and in this one Gina is called upon to foster a pair of dogs who've become inseparable. Daisy isn't happy when they tell her they don't like her, and she wants these dogs out! However, Gina's concentrating on finding a killer first before she can search for a forever home for the pair. Daisy can't wait to get these two out of her house!
I find myself smiling and chuckling throughout most of these books. They're so fun to read. I love the complexity of the murder mystery which isn't always the case in a cozy mystery but like I said, Carly Winter's got it down and writes cozy gold! I highly recommend this series as well as the Heywood Herbalist series, both have great characters who are interesting and fun. That and the sleepy town of Heywood, AZ seems like a great place to live, if you can get past the number of murders that just keep happening here. Happy Reading!
Furballs and Fatalities - When one of Gina’s customers becomes a person of interest in a murder, Gina steps in to clear her of suspicion. Erika was recently fired from her job at the hardware store by Molly, owner now deceased. Was it her husband? Or her lover? Or someone else? The more Gina digs, assisted by her talking dog Daisy, the more muddled she becomes. She is getting more questions than answers. Finally she decides to enlist the help of a friend to set a trap . . . only if she’s not careful, the trap may spring on her and her friend. Gina is also fostering a pair of dogs devoted to each other to the exclusion of everyone else, both canines and humans. Daisy is determined to break up the duo, resulting in much snarling and growling. Gina doesn’t dare leave the three dogs alone together, so Daisy goes everywhere while Gina snoops. This will turn out to be a good thing, even if it is another complication. This tale is another great addition to the series. Daisy, of course, steals the show, with her unfiltered remarks and her loving nature. Deputy Trevor Hutchinson again seeks Gina’s help, even as he berates for going too far sometimes. This well-written mystery is an interesting one, the solution is intriguing, and the characters are well-drawn, especially Daisy. Delightfully entertaining can describe this entire series.

Daisy was an absolute trip, I think she may have been the star of the book. Her antics were super funny even though she did act a bit like a spoiled child. If you ever wonder what your dog thinks when you leave him, this book will give you a clue. I love how Gina told the dog to remember she always would come back. I say the same to my dog which made Gina incredibly relatable.
Gina, owner of a nail salon, is an unlikely choice for someone to solve mysteries yet her process seemed successful even if she did get a few clues by watching dog behavior. Trevor's willingness to have her along on cases was kinda refreshing because she was not working on her own but helping him. That did not keep her out of trouble. I don't want to give anything away but her plan to catch the killer was one of a kind. Her other friend's willingness to jump in only added to the antics.
I have added more of Carly Winters book to my kindle because I enjoyed this one very much and look forward to what happens with Gina's son Jacob in the next book.

Gina gets involved in the investigation of the murder of the owner of the hardware store when one of her customers is accused. Erika swears she’s innocent despite evidence against her. The investigation finds that both the victim and her husband were having affairs and that Erika’s boyfriend seems very controlling. When Gina and Annabelle set a trap for the killer, have they miscalculated? Good thing Trevor is on the case.
Meanwhile, Gina also has to deal with Daisy’s pouting when she fosters a bonded pair of dogs, Frank & Marilyn. Daisy wants to play with Marilyn but Frank won’t let her. And Trevor has some information about Gina’s mom, which she doesn’t want to hear.
Another fun mystery from Carly Winter. Poor Daisy, she just wants to be friends. Gina is having a hard time hiding that she can understand Daisy from Trevor. The mystery was nicely crafted with a twist I didn’t see coming. Always nice to visit the residents of Heywood, AZ. Looking forward to what’s next for Gina, Trevor, & Annabelle.

Another great mystery from Carly Winter’s Heywood Hounds series. This time, Gina and Daisy are coping with the murder of the local hardware store’s owner’s wife. There’s no shortage of suspects ranging from a disgruntled employee, said employee’s controlling boyfriend and the lovers of both the owner and his wife. When one of the suspects asks Gina to clear her name, she and Daisy are on the case. Meanwhile, at home they’re coping with a situation with two dogs they’re trying to adopt out. The male, Frank, is extremely possessive of the female, Marilyn, not allowing Daisy anywhere near her. Daisy’s little doggy heart is broken because they’re just downright mean to her.
There are twists and turns galore in the story, making it fun to solve. As always, Gina and Daisy are a great team. Her friend (maybe something more someday?) relationship with Deputy Trevor is sweet, and the cast of supporting characters is, as always, a lot of fun.

Hardware store homicide. Gina Dunner's client is late for her appointment and when Sheriff Trevor Hutchison shows up she finds it's because Erika is being questioned at the police station in connection with the death of her boss and the only person she will talk to is Gina. Gina doesn't want ot be involved in another murder investigation but that is what happens. With the aid of her talking dog Daisy and her bestfriend Annabellle and reluctantly Trevor it's full steam ahead checking into the spouse, his mistress as well as Molly's boyfriend and clients with unpaid bills. Suspects abound and Gina is also dog sitting a pair of anti social dogs that drive poor Daisy crazy. The third in this series and things just keep getting better, The character development continues to fill out the personalities and the mystery is very good. In this 3rd book of the Heywood Hounds series, I am delighted to see the relationship between Gina and Trevor is slowly progressing, even if they don't realize it! Also, the two new dogs she is temporarily fostering will not be separated, even for a minute, and Gina sets out to find someone willing to adopt them both. This time, there is another murder, the owner of a local hardware store. Gina doesn't want to get involved in another murder investigation but with Trevor in charge in the absence of the sheriff, she just can't say no! As Gina begins uncovering clues, she learns that there are many suspects, with motives like money, marital affairs, lost jobs, violent possessive boyfriends, and many surprises along the way that makes this book a page turner that I simply couldn't put down! One fabulous and delightful para cozey mystery with mayhem and touches of murder. The top characters Gena who owns a beauty salon as well as rescuing dogs and ghost writing has a furry four legged companion who both enjoy solving a mystery. Another murder in Heywood! This small town sure has a lot of them, good thing they have help finding the guilty party. Gina and Daisy are back at it again working beside Deputy Trevor. This time we get a lot more from Daisy, she really is a hoot. Not only is there a murder to solve but Daisy has her own mystery to solve. This series just keeps getting better. I can not wait for more from this town and this amazing Author, no one writes a cozy mystery quite like her. Furballs and Fatalities: A Talking Dog Cozy Mystery

I enjoy these stories about Gina, owner of the File It Away nail salon, and her talking dog Daisy, whose comments to Gina add plenty of humor! After the murder of Molly Griffon, Detective Trevor shows up at the salon to ask Gina to come down to the station, because Erica is insisting she won’t talk to anyone else. She insists she didn’t murder her friend, Molly, and wants Gina to prove her innocence by finding the murderer. Trevor advises against it, but you know how that goes, and Gina’s curiosity is piqued! A fun and often funny cozy murdern mystery! I received a free copy of this book and write this review voluntarily.
Sweet and Funny Talking Dog Cozy Gina and her talking dog Daisy are on the case again and are determined to sniff out a murderer. This story was fun to read and I always love Daisy's dialog with Gina, as it seems like exactly the sort of remarks a dog would make. I also enjoy getting Daisy's take on the other dogs that Gina fosters and hearing how she feels about the other people Gina encounters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sweet cozy mystery with the only paranormal element being a talking dog, who can only be heard by her owner. I enjoyed reading the book. It was a quick read. Pulled me in. I managed to read it in one day. These are the type of books I enjoy reading.
That said, I would have liked a little more background regarding Gina. At first I pictured her much younger but later in the book you find out she has a son in college. I also would have liked Daisy to have been a little more involved in the solving of the murder. Not sure I care for the teaser about her mother. I thought by the end of the book what happened to her would have been revealed.
This was an intriguing and amusing cosy mystery. It had all the elements needed for a great whodunnit: lots of suspects, lots of red herrings and to top it all, a reappearance of a previous and very amusing character. She has a wonderfully imaginative take on ways to out a murderer. There is also a slowly developing romance between our protagonist and a deputy who has also been a protagonist in several mysteries in this series. Last but not least we have my favourite talking dog, Daisy. I can’t wait for the next mystery in this series!

Even though Gina is not a member of law enforcement and Deputy Trevor Hutchinson, in charge of the case, isn’t happy about it, Gina agrees to help prove her loyal client, Erika, innocent of murdering her boss’s wife. The more she investigates, the more suspects come to light, each with motive and opportunity. Can Gina prove Erika is innocent and discover who the real killer is?
A fun whodunit with murder, plenty of suspects, danger, infidelity, twists and turns, a talking dog, grumpy foster dogs, and more!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a well written cozy mystery with unique characters and a talking dog. I personally loved the interactions between Gina and Daisy. Would recommend.
Gina Dunner, owner of the File It Away nail salon, and Daisy her talking dog help Deputy Trevor Hutchinson solve the unaliving of Molly Burton. Molly and her husband own the local hardware store where her body was discovered. The story is littered with possible suspects and motives until Gina and her friend conceive a plan to draw out the suspected killer.

Gina Dunner has a talking dog named Daisy, and they seem to end up in the middle of various murder investigations. Already another one looks like it will be aimed at Gina when Molly Burton, the wife of the Hammer and Nail hardware store owner, is murdered. The woman arrested for the crime, Erika, was a checker at the store and refuses to talk to anyone except Gina. This will be a difficult one since there are so many possible suspects! Gina and her talking dog, Daisy, join Deputy Trevor Hutchinson in the investigation. Will they find the killer? And what’s going on with the dogs Gina has taken in that Daisy wants to see gone!?
This is another one of this Authors extremely entertaining reads based around such creative characters and the whole idea of small township murders. As the third book in the 'Heywood Hounds Cozy Murders' series readers are again enlightened with such great characters and simply love the names of the stores in the town. Daisy the dog simply is the best, but then again who doesn't love a talkative dog. Because I read such a variety of genres I always Author Carly Winter's books are a lovely way to re-center myself due to the light-hearted and comical aspect that her story-telling has.

Another solid cozy mystery read about the adventures of Gina, her talking dog Daisy and her continuing developing friendship/possible relationship with Trevor. I loved continuing to follow Gina's development into continued self awareness of her behaviors along with her abilities to once again solve the crime. This is a great addition to the series and will keep you entertained and engaged if you need a quick escape.

Gina Dunner owner of the salon File-It -Away is in her salon when her most loyal customer Erika Roscoe is accused of murdering the owner of Hammer and Nails hardware Molly Burton. She becomes the main suspect as she has evidence against her. Gina with her talking dog Daisy and Deputy Trevor Hutchinson have their work cut-out finding the real culprit. There is a lot of humour with Daisy the dog. A exciting read with a nail-biting finish. I received this ARC copy via booksirans and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.
Gina and her dog daisy are searching for clues to discover who killed the owner of the hardware store. Adorable daisy can talk, but, only Gina hears her. They uncover many secrets of those in town that had dealings with the owner and his wife. A delightful tale by Ms. Winter where Gina, owner of the town nail salon has opened her home for temporary dog rescues. Daisy has her own stories with the dogs they guest host. It adds humor to a page turning whodunit story. Does Gina put herself and her friend Annabelle in harms way to smoke out the murderer? Read to find out!
I love this book and especially Daisy, she reminds me of my Chihuahua. This dog is the star of the show and Gina is her ride but they do work well together. Gina is waiting on Erica to go over some business when the sheriff comes to tell her that Erica is at the station being questioned for the murder of her boss and will only speak with Gina. Will Gina and Daisy be able to solve this crime or will they be the next victims?.

Furballs and Fatalities: A Talking Dog Cozy Mystery is book #3 in the Heywood Hounds Cozy Mysteries series by Carly Winter.
This is such a fun series. I can relate to Gina and I adore Daisy. She is dramatic and adds a lot of humor. This was an interesting mystery because no one was quite what they seemed. I enjoy Trevor and Gina working together I was completely surprised by who the guilty party was. And the bombshell at the end has me anxious for the next book!

Gina is one of the local business owners, she takes care of dogs with hers. I have to say Daisy is a blast, this is her talking dog and sidekick. Daisy is trying to handle the new dogs who have their own little click going on. But with the new murder in town, she is helping Gina and the Deputy figure out who the killer is. Even those all the signs point to Erika. The question of the day is who would want to kill the Owner of the Hardware store?.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The local hardware store owner is murdered and one of Gina’s customers is the prime suspect. She will only talk to Gina. Deputy Trevor Hutchinson brings Gina to the station where, despite the evidence, Erika maintains her innocence. The suspect list grows as Trevor and Gina pursue a tangle of clues.
This mystery has twists and turns. Incorporating the problems with Gina’s new foster dogs added another depth to the plot. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
This was the first book I have read of this series, but it did not stop my enjoyment of this book. Gina is pulled into another murder mystery, and along with Deputy Trevor, her friend Annabelle and Daisy, she sets out to help Trevor solve the murder. The mystery was well written, I had no idea until the end who the villain was. Recommend reading. I will be reading the first two books to catch up.
