He’s a vampire, and her brother’s best friend. What could go wrong?
From a young age, all Evie has known is that her brother is her only family. After their parents were murdered at a young age by an unknown perpetrator, her brother, Miles, has protected her from the world, sheltering her from as much evil as possible. But the one thing he couldn’t shelter her from was his best friend, Jaylen Black.
Evie has had a crush on Jaylen since they were kids, but growing up, she realized that maybe she should steer clear of him and his playboy ways, not wanting to have her heart broken by him. But this doesn’t stop her from finding him attractive, and irresistible. Jaylen being on the college soccer team with her brother means he’s always around, making it hard for Evie to stay away—until one night when everything changes and Evie’s world is tipped upside down.
She thought she knew everything about Jaylen, but there was one thing she had yet to find out—he was a vampire.
As Evie fights to keep her head above water with the weight of her overprotective brother bearing down on her shoulders, she learns more about the murders happening in Pullman and if they are in any way connected to the murder of her parents. Along the way, she finds herself gradually being pulled closer to Jaylen, no matter how much she tries to pull away.
Throughout this wild rollercoaster, Evie learns more about herself than she could have ever imagined. She learns that no matter how hard she tries to fight the attraction between her and Jaylen, she will always be…his girl.
“What’s the matter, little angel? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Chloe lives by the beach in New South Wales, Australia, with her two fluffy cats, partner, and twin sister. Ever since she was young, she has always loved to read and create stories in her mind whenever an idea presented itself and got into the romance genre in high school by reading "After" by Anna Todd on Wattpad. In recent years, her love for storytelling grew and she decided it was finally time to put pen to paper and share her ideas. She is always coming up with new ideas, so stay tuned for future projects.
This book was very predictable. To many details about one of the main characters made it very obvious it was him. The ending really reminded me of the first book of acotar/breaking dawn but not as gut wrenching. It was very hard to relate to the characters and there was a lot of inconsistencies with them as well.
There were a few spelling and wrong words used but with more editing those are easily fixed.
2* only because at 40% of the book it was very obvious who the hunter/murder was.
WHAT A CLIFFHANGER!! How am I supposed to wait for book 2 after such an epic ending 😭
If you love true crime but also a good vampire romance, look no further. I was absolutely hooked right from the beginning and binged this book in one sitting. Jaylen and Evie have the benefit of a life long friendship on their side, so when things take a turn for the supernatural, there is a ton of history to fall back on to deepen the plot.
I loved the College Sports element of the book and that there are some similarities to the vampire classics whilst also having a world of its own. This book is dark and spicy so begin the journey knowing you're getting to experience a morally grey MMC in Jaylen (and you'll love him).
Thank you to Author Chloe Higgins for allowing me to read an ARCv of this book. I'll be very impatiently waiting for book 2!
This book is good. U have vampires on a soccer team, yes, please. It's a slow burn, but it's good. I absolutely adore Jaylen and his lil angel. Ethan,I i really like him too. This book ends on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read book 2. I'm so invested and need to know what is bout to happen.
Sometimes when you read a lot you find yourself becoming jaded by all the genres, tropes, and plot lines. When I saw Blood Sport three things drew me to wanting to read this book (which I ended up devouring in a day).
The cover was stunning, it involved vampires, and it was a college, dark romance. Enough said. Duh.
Evie, at a young age, finds her parents dead, the mystery of who killed them plaguing her dreams each night. Meanwhile, her brother's best friend, the captain of the football team, and of course, duh, super sexy vampire, plague her thoughts too. And well, let's just throw in a vampire nightclub as well, because why not?
The book was an easy read although very slow in getting to the point. Repetition and telling the reader what was happening was sometimes a bit much, but hey ho, if I don't see the word Amazonite again, I won't be complaining.
I'll definitely be reading the next in the series because, yes, this book contains a big cliffy and kind of no resolution to anything mentioned in the first book.
Anyway, thank you so much for this ARC in exchange for an honest and fair review!
I wanted to really like this book. I was a bit annoyed with some grammar/spelling issues. Then she is making out in the rain one chapter then hates the rain and how it reminds her of her parent’s death a few chapters later. That ending was abrupt and predictable trying to be a cliffhanger but I don’t even think I will read the next book.
soccer, romance, vampires; what more could a girl ask for?
first things first, if you are looking for a mixture between soccer and TVD you have come to the right place. this is very VERY slow burn romance, but when it finally gets spicy - PHEW! i really enjoyed that Evie was very independent and didn't always run to someone else to fight her battles. I def was not expecting the mystery aspect either and found myself very invested in the story of her parents, and Jaylens parents as well and i can't wait for that to come around in book 2.
THAT ENDING THO! i was SHOCKED. it def broke my heart to know that there was nothing else when i turned the page. i fell in love with the characters and wanted more. there is so much more happening in this book than a boy and girl falling in love, and i absolutely loved that. i love the mystery and thriller parts especially when they started connecting together at the end..
all in all i def would recommend this book to others. i cannot wait for book 2 to come out and to read it. i don't think of myself as a slow burn lover, but this one was very much worth the wait and when the time came for the romance of it all, i was not disappointed.
Vampires, Vampire Hunters, College romance, Soccer, Brothers best friend, Spicy scenes… what more could you ask for🖤⚽️🩸
I absolutely loved this book. Usually college themed romance books can be unrealistic and cringy. But this book was far from that and I absolutely loved the characters. Evie is adorable but feisty, stubborn, curious, and not naive. Her brother, Miles, is overprotective and sweet but starts showing signs of suspicious activity later in the story. His best friend aka the vampire, Jaylen, what can I say soul melting eyes and sexy vampire with witty charm but there is more to him than meets the eye. This forbidden love blossoms into something beautiful and unlike anything these two have ever experienced. Evie becomes the one thing Jaylen cannot lose even if it means it goes against his best friend’s wishes after all these years. Evie would rather lose herself in order to protect Jaylen. Amongst murders to local vampires, this forbidden love between Evie and Jaylen, and then betrayal from someone dear to them just kept me on my toes. I cannot wait for Book 2 and see what unfolds for these characters🖤📚
Blood Sport by Chloe Higgins is the first book I’m reading by this author. What a great read, I couldn’t put it down! I read this book in a day, I actually lost a few hours because I was so invested in the story that time had just passed me by. When I read the blurb I couldn’t wait to dig into this book as I’m a huge fan of vampire tales. This was a really great story that had great pacing and an interesting plot. I loved reading Jaylen and Evie’s relationship development. I actually just really enjoyed this couple as a whole. There’s so much amazing things in this book… suspense, action and a forbidden love. I would mention checking your trigger warnings to be on the safe side. I cannot wait for book two! Looking forward to more books by this author, Chloe Higgins. This is a definite recommend.
This book had potential, but it was such a let down. The writing style was really hard to get into. Normally when I read a book it’s so easy to be in that persons head as if you are the main character but the way this was written it was just hard. There were so many words but nothing was being said. I found myself speed reading through the page but to get through it.
It almost felt corny reading the dialogue between the two main characters. I just couldn’t find myself getting into it.
The dialogue almost felt childish? The spice wasn’t spicing.
The whole book was a series of contradictions.
The “cliff hanger” was predictable.
Normally I can read a 400 page book in 2 days, this took me a lot longer. I almost DNF but I wanted to push through.
I don’t see myself sticking around for the 2 book.
I just finished this one. Such a beautiful story. I am not happy with the ending btw just because now i need book 2 ASAP. You cant leave a person hanging like this girl. Its so worth the read. I usually dont go for slow burn stories but the tension kept me going. And the plot twist on the end there OMG. I was puzzling stuff together on the guessing job on who and what and why but when it did came in the storyline, i was like oh now this is interesting. How is this going to play out and then the book was finished. I cant wait for book 2 and see where you will take us in that one. Thank you for the ARC and the opportunity to look into the world of Evie and Jaylen and all the others. I am ready for the next chapter.
I really enjoyed this book! Vampires + soccer + brothers best friend + murder + spice = this book!
Jaylen is Evie’s brothers best friend. Miles has given them both a rule that they are off limits to each other, but fate has other plans for them! I loved seeing Evie try to fight her feelings for Jaylen and finally giving into her heart and desires.
I had a feeling Miles was the vampire hunter but I didn’t want to believe it. The ending of this book is unexpected and Ethan didn’t deserve his ending. I cannot wait to see what happens in Blood Night! I need book 2 like yesterday 😂
The playlist for this book is also really good! If you have Apple Music, it’s linked on my profile in my Apple Music link 😏

Welp, I’m officially in my vampire book era. I loved this book. I’m usually on the fence with the brother’s best friend trope but the vampire aspect sold me! I loved it.
Jaylen is dark, mysterious and so swoon worthy. I absolutely loved him! Evie was amazing too, a strong fmc.
If you like the brother’s best friend trope with the addition of that best friend is also a vampire and add a serial unaliver on the loose this is the story for you. This was such an amazing read. Evie and Jaylen burn up the pages. The smexy times are hot, hot, hot.
This author hooks you into the story from the first page. I love the world she has built and the mystery behind who killed Evie’s parents added an extra layer of suspense to the story. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I read it in one sitting and that ending killed me!
I just finished Blood Sport by Chloe Higgins, and that ending has left me hanging! I really want to know what happens next with Evie and Jaylen. I’m guessing Jaylen might turn her into a vampire, but after that final chapter, it’s hard to say what direction it’ll go in.
Vampires who play soccer? I’m all in! The dark college romance vibe is a great combo, and the chemistry between Evie and Jaylen really pulls you in.
One thing I did find a bit obvious was who the vampire hunter was. The clues were pretty clear, so it wasn’t much of a surprise. But honestly, it didn’t bother me too much. What’s got me hooked is the tension between Evie, Jaylen, and what’s coming in book two.
Vampire, Brother best friend - mystery murders… sign me up 🖊️ ‘I would gladly burn this fucking town to the ground if it meant protecting you.’
‘She has no idea how enamoured I am by her. But she will soon.’
This was Evie & Jaylen’s story with a plot twist at the end that has left us HANGING! This was such a great book. The sneaking around, The shady brother… , plot twist, the mystery. I’m just obsessed 😍 & the playlist to this book is *chefs kiss* would definitely recommend, especially if you love a vampire romance 😏💖
This book is about a girl falling for her best friends brother… who is also a vampire. Amidst their love story, there’s a serial killer on the loose. I love the premise of this book and was so excited to read it! But I totally knew how this book ended within the first 60 pages. Also, the dialogue between the characters was weird and oddly formal, and it pulled me out of the story on multiple occasions. I will still obviously be reading the 2nd book when it comes out because of the huge cliffhanger! Free on KU!
This is poorly written. Maybe because it was just a bunch of college kids, I could not stand the dialogue. At 39 percent I fast forward to the last 100 pages and it was still not great. I already figured out the hunter from beginning. Might be good if you’re a young reader. I won’t pick up the next one.
This was such a wild, addicting ride! I loved Evie and Jaylen and really enjoyed the murder mystery plot as well. Sooo much happens at the end and I'm desperate for book two now. I have so many questions!
Predictable, repetitive, and inconsistent. In one chapter, it's been 9 years since her parents died, the next it's 10. I particularly didn't like the overbearing, overprotective males, their attitudes made my skin crawl. This novel could easily be a novella.
There are definitely some editing errors throughout the book and the whole thing was very predictable. However, I’m a dang sucker for the storyline and I 100% will be reading book 2. I can’t find anything about the second book though so I hope we get some info soon 😩
Vampires and college boys?! Sign me up. It’s giving twilight vibes and I’m here for it! I had suspicions early on who I thought was the hunter and the ending proved me right! Can’t wait to see where book 2 takes their story and what happens to them💗
Was hooked from the first chapter and had to know what was going to happen next, that plot twist and cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book!!!
