Diane Capri has been working an interesting angle on the Jack Reacher theme for years. With the full support of Lee Child, Capri has been able to work this series effectively as the hunt of the elusive nomad continues. Capri brings action, adventure, and and even some humour to this series while showing that she has a knack for great writing.
After eight long months of searching for Jack Reacher, FBI Special Agent Kim Otto may finally have a stumbled upon a break. It’s not a large one, but significant enough to have her rush down to Key West to keep the trail hot. Special Agent Otto is ready to uproot herself in order to find Reacher, who needs to answer some key questions for the Agency.
Locating an anomaly in Reacher’s bank records, Special Agent Otto finds herself trying to piece it all together, only to discover that there is another mystery afoot. Reacher was onto something and it cost some people their lives, as well as pulling the military into the middle of the action.
When Special Agent Otto begins making headway, she discovers that she is not the only one looking for Reacher, as a private investigator emerges with their own questions Still, Special Agent Otto hopes to get the upper hand and uses her connections, including former partner Carlos Gaspar, to stay in the hunt, hoping to finally locate Reacher once and for all. Capri delivers a great book and one that is sure to keep the reader enthralled until the very end.
A strong series needs many elements, one of which is a solid delivery. Capri offers a stellar story that flows well from the opening of the narrative. There are solid aspects that create a great pathway for the series to keep building, until the momentum is at its peak. With great characters, some of whom are back while others make their first appearance in this novel, the story receives added flavouring and impact. It stays on point throughout and shows that Capri has a great handle on the series, with no end in sight.
The plot develops well throughout the series, building partially off of the Reacher collection, as well as the unique spin these novels bring to the table. Surprises can pop up at any time and find themselves emerging as the reader tries to draw parallels between Lee Child’s protagonist and the perspective that comes to pass through the eyes of Kim Otto. I quite enjoy the twists and turns, ever-evolving as this series keeps gaining momentum.
Kudos, Madam Capri, for another great novel in the series.
Jack on a Wire is another great installment in Diane Capris Hunt for Reacher series. This time FBI agent Kim Otto find that she is not the only one searching for Reacher. At the same time someone is killing a group of people who all share a connection that goes back to the Vietnam war. Why are they being murdered and by whom? It is as always a well written book that has it's origin in the book Tripwire by Lee Child. I am a sucker for all things Reacher and try to keep current on all the different series out there that is in the Reacher universe. This one is something I can recommend that you try.
This book is another great read in the Hunt for Jack Reacher Series. OA few years ago I have read all of the Jack Reacher stories and all of the Hunt for Jack Reacher stories as well that were available at the time. Since then I have been reading them as they release. The Child brothers are releasing 1 book a year and Capri is releasing two. I am also now reading one of the other approved spin off series, the Reacher Experiment. This will be the 56th Reacher story I have read. It is a good read. But it feels like more of stretch than some of the others. The next in this series have already been announced.
First, I read the 29 Jack Reacher Novels and short stories by Lee Child, and now Lee and Andrew Child. And then I read all the books in this series. This is the eighteenth novel in the Hunt for Reacher Series, and the twenty-first story featuring Otto. Otto still does not have a replacement partner at the beginning of this assignment. The story starts with her chasing down an old lead in Key West, but soon finds some clues and sources that might have a lot more information, but will it be worth the risk.
Otto has Gaspar in the wings helping out as much as he can. He does not trust Finlay or Cooper but is helping Otto. The source book for this volume was Lee Child’s Tripwire. The description of this volume is:
“FBI Special Agent Kim Otto finally caught a break in the Hunt for Jack Reacher. When she discovers a fresh lead in Reacher's old banking records, she's propelled to the sun-bleached streets of Key West.
In the midst of the island's laid-back culture, Kim discovers she's not the sole hunter in this high-stakes game.
From the gritty pages of Lee Child's Tripwire, a determined woman and a seasoned private investigator have also picked up Reacher's scent.
And they're not simply tracking Reacher. They're lying in wait.
Because they have insider information that Kim does not.
They know Jack Reacher.”
The cast of characters in this story is:
Carlos Gaspar Charles Cooper Reggie Smithers Lamont Finlay William Curry Marilyn Stone Nora Ramsey Iniko Makindeand Jack Reacher
Otto is her normal self in this one, in the last few stories she seems a less stressed and frazzled. This story surprised me on a few occasions. It is a great story with an interesting plot, excellent characters. This story is slower than some others and has a significantly lower body count, but that is because of what is happening. Otto is trying to figure out what links a bunch of seemingly random killings. There is a scientist trying to save her company, and rehabilitate her father’s reputation. There are a number of different story arc’s that are winding around each other until they start to collide.
It is another great story in an excellent series. These books always leave you desperate for the next instalment in the series. Capri has again done a wonderful job in leading us on the hunt for Jack Reacher. And with each offering we get to know Otto better. This story was very well done. I can easily recommend this book and series.
Agent Kim Otto is back on the Hunt for Reacher, and things are heating up. The enigmatic Cooper (is he working for her or against her?) has her on two seemingly unrelated assassinations…or are they? The deeper Otto digs, the more it becomes apparent that they were carried out with surgical precision by killers at the top of their game. Gaspar is helping in the background, and Otto is teamed up with Smithers once more. Her suspicions about his being paired with her and whether Cooper had yet another hidden agenda are allayed for the moment. The backstory grows more sinister as they begin making connections, and the threat magnifies. Why these two people? What connects them? What does any of it have to do with Jack Reacher? The early answer points to something far more complex and possibly world-changing than they had imagined. This is what makes Kim Otto such a formidable character. Otto’s dogged determination to find the answers keeps her at it until something breaks. When it does, the action is intense, and the suspense is palpable. Diane Capri has crafted one of the most intriguing and fascinating characters in all noveldom. She continues to grow and develop Kim Otto and her cast of cohorts, making them more real to the reader with each installment. At this point, I’m eager to see how Kim gets through all this and what she moves on to next…but not before this assignment is complete. Capri had injected yet another incredible plot with realism and excitement. Meanwhile, the backstory, which continues in her characters' lives, is complex and engaging. I’m a fanboy! Bring on the next installment! I’m honored to have had the opportunity to review this book prior to publication in exchange for my objective opinion.
Incredible!! This is one of the most breathtaking in this series. It has100% non-stop action. There are three stories going at the same time and as each one moves quickly, with murder victims piling up, the action in one group interweaves with the next, until the very end when all three crash together in a huge shootout. Of course Kim Otto is one group with her Agent Cooper-directed continual search to find Jack Reacher. This time she finally gets a partner to watch her back who is a definite compliment to her skills. This partner turns out to be a “keeper.” The second group consists of the owner of Ramsey Chemical; her personal security and “fixer” John; Iniko Makinde, a nepharious character from Nigeria who is benefitting financially from working with Nora Ramsey while she tries to obtain legal approval from the U.S. Government to distribute the next-generation of the defoliant used in Vietnam in Nigeria; and various government officials who are participating in the project. Group three consists of the shooter and his driver, whose intent is to bring all the parties together in death. Once again, the main characters from the Jack Reacher novel, Tripwire, are involved with and sought after by all three groups. While this story can be a standalone, it is an advantage to enjoy the story most if you have previously read Tripwire and at least one other Kim Otto story. The characters flow together into a fascinating read that you can’t put down. Of course, at the very end, Kim Otto receives a mysterious warning against everything she is working for with no further information. I am really looking forward to see where this goes next. Really great series.
FBI Special Agent Kim Otto continues her search for Jack Reacher, a retired Army MP Officer, who has no permanent address and seemingly travels the country with no particular destination in mind. But now there is a sniper killing people in New England who seemingly have no connection to one another. Otto’s FBI boss, Charles Cooper, wants Otto to follow the work of an FBI task force who’s trying to make sense of these killings with alarming the public because he knows that Reacher is a part of the mystery but won’t tell Otto what he knows. Otto requests a specific FBI agent to be her partner and off they go working parallel with other agents but figure out who’s on the list but they don’t know why.
Author Diane Capril uses Lee Child’s books as a source for her books. In this instance, I encourage readers to read Lee Child’s TRIPWIRE either before or after reading JACK ON A WIRE. It’s an explosive story that’s resolved with some heroic, deadly actions taken by Reacher.
This was a difficult read for me initially until some of the pieces began to fall in place. Don’t miss this opportunity to be challenged and intrigued by the twists and turns.
“Jack on a Wire” is a stunning success! Diane Capri brings a fresh turn to Reacher’s third outing, making us hang on every plot turn as if 13 years has never passed. I started reading this series because it connected to Jack Reacher and it had the endorsement of Lee Child. Now, I’m completely hooked on Diane Capri’s characters. FBI Special Agent Kim Otto is the most compelling character in current fiction. Gaspar, her now retired partner, is a perfect support and foil for her. I would read stories about these two, and their supporting cast, even if Reacher wasn’t in the mix. So, just imagine how pumped I am to read them since he is. Capri always uses a Reacher novel as her springboard. But these are no retreads. She invents a perfectly believable story that connects without being force-fitted into the original Reacher story. It’s sheer genius. Please keep writing these! I will always want to read the next one!
"Jack On A Wire" by Diane Capri is an exceptional read. Kim Otto, on her own, goes to Key West to look into jobs Reacher had 14 years ago. Kim comes across a 2 leads. Her boss Cooper orders her not to pursue one, a rich widow who Reacher helped years ago; the other a former NYPD detective now a PI working for the widow. The widow believes a congresswoman was murdered at the congresswoman's, husband's gravesite. The congresswoman has been pushing a bill to fund Ramsey Chemical to provide an anti-malaria-mosquito chemical for poor nations starting with Nigeria. The problem is Ramsey Chemical produced a defoliant used during the Vietnam War that is associated with health issue for Vietnam Vets & their offspring's so there's lots of push back. A serial sniper, with a partner, is killing all who are trying to get this bill passed. Cooper wants Agent Otto to eliminate the sniper before national publicity happens; he assigns Agent Smithers to be her partner. Lots of action & intrigue with innocents getting murdered. Good pacing in this tale. Enjoy, solid 5 stars.
Based on characters in Lee Child's book Tripwire, Jack On A Wire, by Queen of the FBI-Thriller Diane Capri, expertly ratchets up the tension, as FBI Special Agents Otto and Smithers must stop a shooter. He's taking out victims with a link to the elusive Jack Reacher and each other, while continuing the race against the clock to locate the former MP, who's like a ghost when he doesn't want to be found. What's the killer's agenda Find out in Jack On A Wire!
I have been reading this series since the first book and it seems to get better with each new addition. Kim is still hunting Reacher with help from her former partner, Gaspar. She also gets a new partner, and this one seems like a keeper, which she certainly deserves. She also meets a private investigator who is also searching for Reacher. He provides some useful information. This information leads back to a mysterious situation during the Vietnam War that seems to be important in the present day. This book is action packed and you won’t be able to put it down!
Diane has written another amazingly complex novel that sucks the reader into her plot with many twists that create that wonderful absortion that she does so well. I love the expansion of Otto's character and always enjoy the interaction between Gaspar and Otto as she truly chooses to go beyond where Cooper wants her to go. Each phase of the story line enhances the reader's envolvement. A fantastic success! Can't wait for the next adventure for Otto and Simmonds!
This was another wonderful chapter in the Kim Otto and Reacher experience!!!! Gaspar and Smithers gave Kim a great deal of help. Cooper is still a butt head. He doesn't tell her anything helpful in relation to Reacher till after the fact . But the overall and plot was excellent as always!!! 10 stars plus!!! Thanks Carl Clause
As the subtitle suggests this is a book about hunting for Reacher - and follow the events in one of the actual Reacher series, giving a broader perspective than just the original. I don't think I read the jump-off book but things make sense... I need to actually look at a book I know...
Intriguing idea - and seemingly with Lee Child's blessing.
This one seemed...rushed. I picked up a couple of inconsistencies about persons/gender in the scenes as the story rapidly evolved.
I won't pretend to know what timelines Capri was under to get this one out, however, it came across as somewhat choppy and did not follow the normally smooth seques that she's previously presented.
As good as they always are. The hunt for Reacher continued. It's always bloody and always exciting. I dislike Cooper more and more with every book I read.
Once again a gripping and intense story that will keep you reading. Kim Otto might be searching for Reacher, but she’s not the only one. Danger all around, can she solve the case in time. Loved everything about it.
Reacher does much better when he saves the day. It isn't satisfying when the "good guys" barely pull through and lot of innocents are killed or injured. Disappointing.
Another good story about Otto’s search for reacher, although time lines seem a little blurred. Nice to bring old characters back in focus. Looking forward to when they actually meet.
FBI agent Kim otto picks up looking for Reacher 13 years after the events in Tripwire. A relative of the madman Reacher killed is on a mission to kill everyone related to that adventure.
Jack On A Wire: Hunting Lee Child's Jack Reacher by Diane Capri is a fast-paced thriller that follows FBI Agent Kim Otto and her partner, Carlos Gaspar, as they track a man copying Reacher’s methods. The novel takes readers across the country, through dangerous encounters with criminals and law enforcement. Diane Capri captures the tension and suspense of the Reacher universe, making this a thrilling read for fans of the series.
While the plot is totally formulaic, it offers an interesting twist on the Reacher mythos by examining the impact of his legend. The writing is engaging, balancing action and character development well.
