Based on classic Experiencing God principles, Hearing God's Voice is for those who are ready to listen. Beloved author Henry Blackaby and his son Richard help those who are listening to discern the voice of God, to identify ways He speaks, and to respond to His revelations of His will. God speaks to individuals in ways that are personal and unique to each person. God will never say anything that contravenes what He has said in the Bible, and usually He confirms what He has said. After you learn to listen to God, hearing from God will be as natural as communicating with a close friend.
this is a wonderful book. i really enjoyed it and feel like i got a lot of useful information form this book, and a lot of new perspectives on old ideas. it really stresses the importance of God's word in the bible and explains how God will never give you a message that contradicts an old message- the bible. God will never tell you to take a mistress to be happy because God said to be faithful to your spouse. God will never tell you to steal money to have less stress in your life and be able to be better at your job or you ministry or something, because God said to not steal. it is very simple logic that sometimes we need to be reminded of, but they also give more information that is very useful, and give real life examples of hearing from God and how that has impacted lives for the better.
Excellent source for determining the Holy Spirit's voice and presence in your life. Blackaby, as always, is very clear in helping the reader understand what is and what isn't God's voice. There are personal stories as well as historical references to Christians who have clearly heard and followed God's voice in their own lives. It's a dense little book that needs time for reflection. I loved it and wanted to savor the words so spent months just reading small sections at a time during my daily devotions. I still couldn't absorb it all and will continue to pick it up when I need help in hearing God's voice in the future.
"Experiencing God" Part 2 Perhaps this book should have been titled "Experiencing God" Part 2? While it is a fine work, it basically the same book as "Experiencing God" with different illustrations. Like "Experiencing God" this work tells how God speaks to us today through His presence in our lives; though His Word; through prayer; through circumstance; and through people. "Hearing God's Voice" is a fine book, but "Experiencing God" is much better.
This was such an enriching book that I expect to read it again. The authors lead the reader through the different ways God speaks to people. I loved their anecdotes of Christian leaders and scriptural people whom they used as examples. This was very encouraging because they don't believe that hearing God's voice is just for the super Christians, but for every Christian.
If you want to hear God's voice, nurture a relationship with Him. That is the theme of this book. This book reads like one long sermon--inspiring, clear, and applicable to everyday practices. Thank you Henry and Richard Blackaby!
This book felt like a continuation of Experiencing God which has been advantageous in my walk with God. Chapter 6 on prayer was my favorite. “Prayer is a relationship. It is not an activity.” The goal of hearing from the Lord is intimate fellowship with Him.
Definitely will read this book again. Very encouraging to hear and know that God desires to speak to us; however often times we are too busy or distracted to hear Him.
Blackaby continues to be a favorite author for me. I took a long time to read this book. At times it was because I needed time to digest and practice it, but at other times I was preoccupied with other things in my life. Each time I went to it though, I was blessed. There are some obvious points made in the book, and some less obvious as well - but all good for consideration and well-supported. I am always reminded of my need to hear God more and need to listen more than go ahead of Him.
Eked out 3 stars. Had a few good things to say about prayer. The other part worth mentioning was in the last third of the book: God's voice was contrasted with Satan's, and His ways were discerned from the World's. An uncommon denouncing of relatively common rationalizations was included.
This book is for the person who truly wants God's leading. Just as his book EXPERIENCING GOD had a profound effect on me, so did this one. Written with his son, Richard, many questions are answered scripturally about how we can feel Gods leading in our lives, finding the work He has for us, as well as why we can't hear Him. The book is well organized and thought out, and every suggestion they have for the reader is backed by scripture. Great read for the growing Christian.
I have wanted to read Henry Blackaby’s books for years, but never acquired any of them. I just acquired several and began with this one. I loved it. This book describes many ways that God does communicate with us. I have personally experienced several ways of God communicating with me. Blackaby’s book is an easy read with many real experiences described in detail. I now have to read more of his books.
He speaks ! yes he does all the time. Somehow though, we cant pause long enough to indeed hear from him. This book does help one to understand clearer abt really having the desire to want to hear God voice and what are the suggested ways we can do it as well as the type of mindset we might be having on certain thoughts on the way God does speak to us.
I always love anything written by the Blackaby's. I read half of this book, then left it in the States while in Nigeria. So, I didn't finish it, but from what I read, I would give it a 4 star. The reason for 4 star for me was because it was redundant as I have read many of their books and there was a lot of GOOD repeating, but repeating.
Coming from a prophtic church, I wanted to see what Blackaby had to say. This was a very encouraging book. It encouraged the reader to pursue with all diligence the voice of God. Very good read. I would recommend this book to anyone.
There is some good to be found here but their interpretation of Scripture in many cases I could not agree with. Yes, I believe God is still speaking. How many of us are listening?
this was a challenging book to read, mostly from a self-reflection point of view. I am glad that I did and have found myself reassessing some of my thoughts and behaviors because of it.
Good book. I have not read his Experiencing God book , but now I plan too. Very exhaustive look at how God speaks to his people and how to listen to it.
