Kicking off with a silly epilogue to Lyserg's fight with Yoh's visit and talk with the X-Laws, this volume is dedicated to Hao going up against the X-III and revealing to the world the secret behind his Spirit of Fire. The volume also ends with Hao's origin story and the plot twist regarding his relationship with Yoh. Fun, concise, and plenty of world-building through character development accomplished in this volume marking the halfway mark of this series.

And we get to see Hao's first fight and we also learn more about Hao and let's see how the story continues to Let's go and Keep on Reading.

I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

Yoh Asakura not only sees dead people, he talks and fights with them, too. That’s because Yoh is a shaman, a traditional holy man able to interact with the spirit world. Yoh is now a competitor in the Shaman Fight, a tournament held every 500 years to decide who will become the Shaman King and shape humanity’s future. The first round of the Shaman Fight is underway. With their Over Souls boosted by the Ultra Senji Ryakketsu, Yoh’s team has won its first match with ease. But Hao's full powers have yet to be revealed...

Ever since Amazon linked up with comiXology, so that readers could get comics, graphic novels and manga on their kindles, I have been meaning to check out what they had. Under Amazon Prime Reading you get a number of titles for free and this comiXology original is one such series.

The epic saga continues with Yoh, "Wooden Sword" Ryu and Faust having won their first fight. The second day of the tournament will see Hao's first battle and he will face the a team from the X-Laws who want to defeat Hao at any costs. Secrets are also revealed by Yoh about Hao's relationship to his family and to himself.

Easy to read and engaging, I enjoyed this and it felt just like reading a paperback manga, even on Kindle, as you have to click through the book backwards. A nice little touch. A solid 4 stars again as the story ramps up the action!

Very nice series, really enjoying this. I especially liked the flashback at the end of this volume about Hao and Yoh.

Spirit of Fire seems to have become more overtly mechanical-looking, so the fight of Hao against a few X-LAWS feels like a shift from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to G Gundam or something. This is a positive. It seems the stronger each character's Oversoul gets, the more it resembles a robot or power armor or something, as if Takei always wanted to write a mecha manga, but had to go through the motions for a "normal" supernatural battle manga first.

There's also some AKIRA shit with the flashback of baby Hao, speaking through the infant Spirit of Fire. By "AKIRA shit" I really just meant "telekinetic children," but there's a creepiness to it that veers a little into the quasi-horror of Otomo's manga/film.

This volume really shows us all just how powerful Hao is, and I think this technique which has been used multiple times in the series doesn't do anything else. I do feel it was obvious that the X-Laws were shifty...and finding out who Hao makes the bulk of what is important in this volume. I will say that it's pretty obvious by Hiroyuji Takei's style of drawing the character. That said, the volume may serve a bigger purpose in the big scheme of things but felt like a letdown after the big volume 15!

The best thing this volume does is show how strong Hao is, everything else sucked though tbh. He’s a reincarnation of Yoh’s twin brother? Like that’s such a weird and dumb thing to do. I guess it makes sense but yeah very stupid, making him immortal or an over soul himself would’ve been better. Also the over soul eating the X-III was very dark but dumb cause they try to avoid it as soon as it’s introduced. This series is getting rocky.

The primary focus for this volume is Hao, as we see the villain approach Ren, battle in the Shaman Fight, and get key information for his backstory. There's also Yoh talking with Lyserg, as the latter realises the X-Laws may not be what he once wanted. It's an intriguing volume before the promise of larger things.

Hao

I mean, we all knew the connection between hao and yoh before this volume but it was such a treat to learn the back story. We finally got to see Yoh cry from frustration and I was all for that. Hao is finally being the villain I wanted.

Way better. Lot of exposition and showing how obscenely strong Hao is.
This is super interesting and also, the way Yoh's family were ready to kill and sacrifice is amazing.
Also, understandably why there was always so much pressure on Yoh.

That...was INTENSE!
Finally we learn about Hao...
Well, I did not expect that, for some reason.
I am really looking forward to the following volumes!

Another twist

This series is so fun. Each time I think I have a handle on it they throw something new into the story and it tangles further. Yoh is such a fascinating character.

Lyserg begins to suspect that the X-Laws are not the heroes he believed them to be as they attempt to lure Yoh to their camp, unknowingly leaving Ren to face Hao! Takei will blow readers out of the water with this exciting entry to the "Shaman King" series. With Hao hot on his trail, Ren will have to face down an opponent feared by nearly every other team!

Wow. The series has finally gotten serious and have ratcheted things up a notch. Seems we're finally getting most of our questions answered (just to end up with more questions).
