UnConVentional Kiss

Rate this book
One Comic-Con. One chance encounter. One kiss that changes everything.
Beck

I never claimed to be easy to love. My steady stream of ex-girlfriends is proof positive, and my anxiety pretty much confirms I’ll be alone for the rest of my life. No matter who I date, I can’t ever feel completely myself.

At least until I met Cay, who’s bright, charming, and captures my attention from the start. And one kiss at a Comic-Con sparks some very not-straight feelings in me.

Cay

I’ve spent my whole life trying to make people happy, yet all my effort never seems to be enough. But when a blind double date lands me next to the guy I’ve been thinking about ever since Comic-Con, I’m ready to claim something for myself. Even if I’ve never been into guys before and I have no clue what I’m doing.

That single kiss sparked something in both of us that we can’t seem to deny, and we agree to fool around, exploring where this chemistry leads. All too fast, feelings take the wheel, steering me off the course of fast and easy. However, being bi is new for both of us, and when the time arrives to come out, I don’t know if I’ll be taking that step forward with Beck…or alone.

This book is a double bi-awakening about two very geek guys that meet at Comin Con and have a really cute first kiss straight out of Rom-com heaven.

There's practically no plot just vibes, it's very low angst and overall entertaining, it could have been better but it was also what I was in the mood to read.

- bi awakening x2
- light bondage

Beck ends up at Comic-Con alone and dressed as Superman thanks to his girlfriend dumping him a few days before. There he meets a friendly stranger dressed as Batman, who he ends up sharing one very steamy kiss with thanks to some Superbat shippers.

Several months later he runs into Cay again, this time at an awkward double blind date, where he and Cay hit it off more than with the two women they're supposed to be on a date with. The tension between them soon snaps, and the two explore the sizzling chemistry between them.

Unconventional Kiss was seriously so freaking cute! Beck and Cay are so geeky and adorable, and I found their bi awakening to be super relatable and loved that they waffled a bit instead of diving in head first, which made it seem more genuine. Their story was equal parts sweet and steamy as well, and I had me giggling and smiling the entire time.

Thanks so much to K.C. Carmine for an ARC to review! This will be out tomorrow, Feb 25th, I believe, and should be a delight for nerdy readers!

Awww, Unconventional Kiss was a wholly adorable, nerdy, bi awakening MLM romance with low angst and plenty of spice. It was a breath of fresh air and delightful to see some positive and realistic bi rep.

This one's for the queer comic con fans! It starts at a con and ends at a con, with plenty of nerdy references and banter in between. Beck, dressed as Superman, runs into Cay, dressed as Batman, and some enthusiastic con attendees talk them into a kiss for the photo opportunities. And the rest, as they say, is history.

This was a lovely, light and easy read, with very low angst even as Beck and Cay come to terms with internalized homo\biphobia and their rapidly developing affection for one another. They spend the book going on burger dates, hanging out with their gang of nerdy friends, and bingeing the Batman animated series. You can tell the writers are in the scene, with some hilarious references to how a comic con goes down, interesting cosplays, and even the inevitable escape to the gardens or rooftop for fresh air when you're in costume.

And of course, there are some excellent steamy scenes. If you like fluff interspersed with spice, and a very low conflict plot, this is for you.

Rating: 4.7 ⭐

- Double Bi-awakening
- Grumpy/Sunshine
- Superbat Ship
- Geek/Geek
- Comic-Con
- Found Family
- First Times
- Light Bondage

This is a fun, geeky, second chance, bi-awakening romance. Yes, this made me do a happy dance and I'm ready for book two now, please. These two men have been unlucky in relationships and while one wants to people please, the other just doesn't want to be bothered. Beck has just been dumped right before going to Comic-Con but decides to still go anyway because he has been planning for this for months. He's very uncomfortable with all the people and his anxiety is starting to spike when a stunning Batman stops him from making his way to fresh air. His new Batman friend, Cay, calms him down instantly and they decide to get fresh air together and then hit up some panels since they're both there solo. While on the terrace they are bombarded by some Superbat fans that want pictures of them and then chant for them to kiss. One unexpected kiss changes both their worlds as they start to consider being attracted to a man. They leave Comic-Con without getting each others contact information so they assume they will never see each other again, but they both dream of each other constantly. Little did they know that they have connected friend groups and months later have been setup on a double blind date.

When they reunite it's a bit awkward but cute as hell. Cay is determined to be close to Beck and hopefully get a chance to get to know him better. Beck is freaking out and not sure how he wants to handle his reactions to Cay because they're supposedly both straight and he doesn't want to make it weird. Once they kiss again, it's on! They decide to experiment with each other to see if they truly have a thing for men or if it was fluke. Funny because these two only have eyes for each other and anytime they are in proximity their whole body lights up, so yeah they're smitten and horny. Beck is so sweet, caring, thoughtful, and loving with his grumpy self. That jealous streak was funny, especially since he tried to ignore it but kept growling and snapping at Cay's exes lol. Poor Cay was such a people pleaser in all his prior relationships and he let them use him instead of being loved for who he is. Cay was constantly worried for when Beck would be done with him as well because people always left him but wanted to stay friends. Cay uses his sunshine attitude to cover his pain from all the rejection, especially since he never knew what he did wrong in those relationships to lose them. Both of these men get to finally be themselves unapologetically and they discover what they were both missing in their prior relationships. Their chemistry was there, their smexy times were hot, and they loved each other hard.

This was low-angst, no unnecessary breakups, cute, great characters (main and side), banter, and some heat with a little kink. I had fun and smiled while reading it, so it's a win for me. Now I’m ready for the rest of the friend group to find their forever person and the authors already put some foreshadowing in here about who they might end up with later.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

More like 3.5 stars.

This was very cute. Let me paint you a picture. So we have straight man Beck. He is going to a comic convention by himself dressed as Superman due to his girlfriend breaking up with him just before the convention. He is a very awkward and anxious man, and he hates being there alone. Enter straight man Cay. He is also going to a comic convention by himself dressed as Batman. Cay is very outgoing, so he sees Superman in distress and swoops in to save him. The two hit it off due to each of them being major nerds, and they can geek out together. As they are walking along, some people notice their costumes and ask to take pictures with them. Then, said people ask them to kiss because they’re Batman x Superman shippers. It’s just a kiss, so why not? The two straight men then kiss for the cameras and hot tamales that was the hottest kiss known to man. They aren’t sure what to do with this information, since they’re straight. So they ignore it and go their separate ways. Months pass and they can’t stop thinking of each other. They wish they would’ve got contact information. Imagine their surprise when they meet each other at a double date. They then get contact info and start hanging out. Then they decide to explore these bi curiosities they’re having. How fun!

This was medium level hot. I enjoyed reading them experimenting with each other and learning what each other liked. It wasn’t “fan myself” hot, but it was fun. They also had some fun with restraints, and that’s always a good time.

Overall this was a good story. It got a little too schmoopy and too sugary sweet for my tastes at the end, but it’s fine. I’m interested in some of the other characters. They set up story lines for them, and they seem like a lot of fun. Yee haw!

I forgot to rate/review this when I finished it 🙈

I can see why a lot of people loved this but it wasn’t hitting the mark for me, can’t even pin point why since I love low-no angst stories with no misunderstandings. I just think I would’ve liked to feel more of an emotional connection instead of just the sexual exploitation and more mature characters, not that these were immature .. I think I just prefer things a little more serious or maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood to fully enjoy this. 🤷🏻‍♀️

A MM romance which is geeky with its comics references (haha, my type of guys), a fun grumpy/sunshine trope with dual Bi-awakenings!
I enjoyed this book, devoured my #ARC in around 4hrs. Loved Beck & Cay.

Beck is broody, anxious, introverted, socially awkward, & comes off as grumpy. Cay is charming, easy-going, extroverted, thrives on crowds, & a total sunshine.

They are opposites, but meet eachother with their shared love of comics on a comic con! And a spark of attraction changed all. But, it isn't until a mutual friend sets them on a blind date that they come together. It started as experimenting but it became so much more!

B's more cautious, seemed hot/cold (disliked that, but we got apology so I'm good!) but his hesitancy is addressed along with both of their insecurities. I loved that! Their chemistry & mild-kinks are hot! The story is low-ish angst, their being bi, relationship & fear of coming out (which'd been some time since I've read lol). These things are done well, & I liked the side characters too! RTC.

And of course, I loved all the comic references. As a fellow MCU fan, I relate.

The book was a true breath of fresh air after a tough day of my own premiere the day before. I read it feeling stressed, but the stress gradually melted away, turning into good humor! :)

It's the story of two guys who stumble upon each other at a convention, dressed as Spiderman and Superman. Their first experience of intimacy with another man is encouraged by a few other convention attendees who want to take kinky publicity photos. It's a really cute scene that made both guys start to reconsider their attitudes toward their sexuality and open up to the possibility that they might be bi-curious. Overall, their journey into it is quite smooth, and I was pleased to find that the book is free from homophobia, which can sometimes be very stressful for a sensitive reader.

I particularly love books about nerds, and these two are definitely nerds, even if they're good-looking. Their personalities are very gentle and shy. They don't really know how to handle more dynamic women (one of their exes cheated rather insolently, the other bossed one of them around), their hobby is probably not regarded very "sexy" or "interesting" by some women, and I got the impression that they feel overwhelmed by their exes' intense energy and are looking for something simple and light, which they find in their relationship with each other.

Their shared fascination with superheroes is really cute! I'm a fan of that genre myself :D

The book is incredibly sweet and enjoyable, with a wonderful ending! It melted my heart.

I recommend it to any fan of bisexual awakening!

✨ARC Review✨
4⭐️ 2.5🌶️

This book is just happiness. It's light and fluffy and fun. It is probably the nerdiest book I have ever read, but that was to be expected.

Prepare for so many superhero puns, jokes, and references as well as odes to other nerdy stuff.

Cay and Beck meet at Comic Con when they're both attending alone. Beck as Superman and Cay as Batman. Thanks to some interfering con-goers, the two end up kissing and reevaluating their entire lives. 😂

They end up having mutual friends and though they don't exchange contact info at Comic Con, they meet again on a double blind date. From there the snowball of feelings turns into a smoking avalanche and they kick off a whirlwind romance.

This book is so sweet and nerdy. There's almost zero angst, zero conflict, lots of grumpy and lots of sunshine.

Just two men looking for love in all of the wrong places until they find each other😭

I devoured this in a few hours. It's short with some good (yet mostly unrealistic) spice and a ton of cuteness that will make you giggle.

Read it.
Okay, bye.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary opinion!🖤

... and already, the fantasies I had revolving around this man were multiplying faster than I could chase them.

4 Superbat stars for Cay and Beck ⭐️ I had so much fun reading this cute, geeky story! As soon as I read the blurb, I knew I would like it. Two costumed strangers who meet at Comic-Con and end up kissing under peer pressure from Superbat fans? Sign me up! Add a grumpy/sunshine dynamic, a double bi-awakening and a newfound attraction for restraints? You got a winner!

Seriously though, I really enjoyed the story and how the relationship progressed between Cay and Beck. I liked how they were both kinda obsessed with each other and didn't want to admit it to themselves at the same time. I also liked how their bi-awakening was portrayed: everything wasn't easy and clear from the get-go. Sometimes I wanted to be annoyed at them for being hesitant and uncomfortable in public, but I think that made their story more realistic and relatable.

He was the first person who let me feel he could accept me for who I was, insecurities and all.

Ultimately, Beck and Cay were so cute and I liked reading about them getting to know each other and discovering new things together. I really recommend picking up UnConVentional Kiss if you're in the mood for a light story featuring relatable main characters, and especially if you like attending your local Comic-Con!

Were we just friends watching a movie together? Or was this a date? I had no idea, but I sure as fuck wanted to kiss him again.

Lovely romance… Batman and Superman. This is a bi awakening, comic fans, with friends in common. I enjoyed how easy the relationship came to both even though they were straight to begin with. They “experimented” but feelings were developed. They had many things to overcome, specifically coming out and then staying together. It was a good read!

Loved this story

Being a Comic Con fan, I loved all the insider lines. ‘Shaka, when the walls fell.’ It all spurred memories and warmed my heart. A sweet love story with two formerly straight men finding their true selves and falling in love. The sex was steamy and well written. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more in this series.

When a co-write is done right, this is where the magic happens. You feel both authors in both characters yet know its both of them writing. Cannot wait to see more from this world.
KC and Kat gave us a double bi awakening in a slow paced real-life romance. We have two men not used to being attracted, let alone connecting on this level with another person, so they take it slow to get it just right. Loved the nerd power with a little kink snuck in (with these two authors, if you don't expect it, you haven't read either before)for a great read.
The pacing was spot on for us to connect to both characters as well as their friends to see such a powerful connection of friends. The heated scenes had just the right amount of kink that even if that's not your jam, you will be comfortable resding it. Cannot wait to see the next pairing!

The perfect match! The couple and the authors!

Fun, geeky and steamy. This book is the definition of the grumpy sunshine match up and done so well.

With charisma and joy, Cay is all sunny sunshine. Brooding and stoic, Beck matches Cay's sunniness with grumpiness but they each have very similar relationship scars and insecurities. I felt that even though they had similar issues they each dealt with things differently and I actually loved that sunny Cay was known to catastrophize, overthink and project his fears on the situation. I loved that the authors showed that even the sunniest person can be full of insecurities.

I loved the collection of colourful side characters and I can't wait to see who this duo write next.

If you're looking for a fun, sexy, slightly geek, lighthearted read then this one is perfect. It'll make you laugh and make you want to find all your fellow SuperBat fans too 😜

UnConventional Kiss - Holy SuperBat!!

This is the best bi-awakening story I've read so far. Cay & Beck both meet at Comic Con. They both are coming off of a fresh breakup and have gone to the convention alone.

Cay dressed as Batman, approaches Beck who is dressed as Superman and asks to take a picture with him. The two hit it off and as they head to the next panel together, a group asks to take a picture of them together and they get mistaken as a couple and fans ask them to kiss and they figure why not and it's at this point that this one kiss with this stranger suddenly feels so right for the two of them which is a shock. They introduce themselves, but never exchange contact info.

It's not until 6 months later, that they run into each other on a blind double date arranged by their friend. Cay recognizes Beck right away, but Beck doesn't recognize Cay because he had a mask on when he saw him at the convention. It isn't until Cay speaks and Beck recognizes both his voice & scent that he realizes it's the man he's been thinking of for the last 6 months. Although the date with the girls doesn't work out, they atleast are able to exchange contact info this time.

The two soon realize that they have feelings that they want to explore with each other. But will they each be what the other has been searching for this whole time and willing to come out to their family & friends? Or were they just experimenting their newly discovered sexuality? They may have lots in common, but Cay is outgoing and Beck is more reserved, except of course when it comes to Cay.

I know this is the first book on the series and I can't wait to read more about their friends and see where their relationships lead to and hopefully read more about Cay & Beck along the way.

Beck awkwardly stands at the Comic-con, having no idea how to act, Cay sees what happened and approaches him. They spend the whole event together, dressed as Batman and Superman.

At one point a group of girls insisted they should kiss each other, for a pic. Well, that was impressive.
Two straight men, feeling both flustered after a shared kiss.
They stupidly never exchanged numbers, and sadly never saw each other’s faces.

Luckily it’s a story with all the good vibes, so they meet each other at a blind date with two girls.
Btw the girls were more into each other than into the boys.

So yeah, Beck’s anxiety plays out when he’s around Cay. Cay is so smitten with Beck.
Beck is grumpy and acts more reluctant, but isn’t really lol.
Cay the sweet guy he is, is afraid of heartbreak, he’s already so invested.

“That turn you on?”

“Well, now it does,”

Watching them explore their mutual attraction was so great, where was awkward Beck? nope, nowhere to be found when he was balls deep.

“No one looked at me like that.”

A sweet story, the double bi-awakening was certainly convincing, I loved the whole concept.
The narrative was engagingly written, I had some great hours reading!

Cay and Beck ❤️

4.5 Stars ⭐️

✅Grumpy/ Sunshine
✅Comic Con 💋 "SuperBat" shipping
✅Sweet and Spicy first times

This was such a feel good read, I absolutely adored it. Cay and Beck have a chance encounter at comic-con and can't seem to forget each other. As fate would have it they meet again after being set up on a blind double date and instantly fall into the crazy pull to one another once again. This relationship build was pretty much perfection, not only is this a double Bi-awakening and insanely hot, it was friendship and hurt/comfort done right! I think what I loved most about this was the lack of drama re the awakening, I mean there was reluctance but very little and quite honestly it made this story so much better. What it all boiled down to is that these two men formed a bond and love that couldn't be broken by outside noise or drama and they were able to just roll with their growing feelings. The side characters were fun and supportive which added a lot to this story also. I would most definitely recommend, this book will make you smile ❤️.

UnConVentional Kiss was a super sweet story with just a touch of angst to keep it interesting. This was a fun afternoon read with two likable, nerdy men.

Cay and Beck met at Comic Com dressed in their superhero costumes and spent the day hanging out together since they'd each come alone. They ended up sharing a kiss after some light hearted peer-pressure from some people who enjoyed seeing them together in their costumes.

Cay and Beck think about each other after their first meeting and happen to meet again on a double blind date with women, set up by a mutual friend. From this point on, the men are all about each other. Neither of them had success in relationships with women and decide to pursue a secret relationship with each other.

Cay is a little insecure and Beck isn't sure he's ready to come out, but they work through their issues and find their happily ever after. I loved Beck's grand gesture and the fact that Cay wasn't sure if he was getting a boyfriend or being broken up with. The side characters were great and I hope some of them get their own books.

A WONDERFUL COLLABORATION! 💕

These two authors have outdone themselves with this story!

A sweet, sunshiny geek meets a grumpy quiet geek at a comic con both been dumped by their girlfriends and immediately click and then they are asked to kiss as they make a cute couple….

I loved their dynamic and friendship they developed after a failed double date they both attended but only had eyes for each other and not their dates…. Then their chemistry- wow so intense and hot!

This is their dual journey to discovering their sexuality and owning it and each other!…

It is not an easy road as they both thought they were straight (although they love big sexy men in costume) but together they could be a fantastic couple if they both accept coming out to their friends and family…

I loved the supporting characters who form the found family and look forward to reading more of them!

A sweet epilogue that will make the tear ducts flowing so have the tissues nearby!

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

What happens when Batman kisses Superman? In Cay and Beck's case, they both wanted a repeat performance and thought they would never get that chance again until a double-blind date set their path into a mutual friendship. Granted it was a friendship where both had hot fantasies about the other and wanted to make them come true.

Beck and Cay both had a dating resume that kept one being friends with all his exes and the other that he would be forever alone. I love Beck and Cay's meet cute! It's this Geek's Girl dream to see Batman and Superman together and this book did not disappoint. Without giving too much away this book is a bi-awakening of Beck and Cay who were just about to write off finding their sidekick for life. Beck thought he hit his lowest point until Cay and his smile showed him that he still had plenty of FUN to experience.

UnConVentional Kiss by far is my favorite book by K.C. Carmine.

Sweet and spicy double bi awakening . When Beck gets dumped by his gf the night before Comic-Con he goes alone although he is totally miserable as Superman is missing his Lois Lane . Then Batman ( Cay) decides he’s going to cheer him up and they end up pairing up that’s when they are egged on to kiss and oh boy that kiss . Six months later neither one can forget the other but as they didn’t get their contact details they never expected to meet again but fate has a funny way of interfering.
My first book from KC Carmine and second from Katherine McIntyre and they did a great job with this collab.

This is a wonderful book and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Beck and Cay meet at a convention ... one attending in a very stylish Batman costume and the other dressed as Batman. Since they were both going alone, they were drawn into several photos together, per requests by other convention goers, who even begged them to kiss since they thought they were boyfriends.

Fast forward a few months and they meet again...and things get spicier.

You'll fall in love with their 'innocence, curiosity, and loneliness.' Plus they're witty and charming.

I absolutely LOVED this book!!!! As a con going veteran and supernerd, this book had EVERYTHING. The stars aligned to bring together two adorable cosplayers (making the iconic superbat duo yet, my heart!) And their double bi awakening was so precious and relatable. All of it was so sexy and romantic, cute and funny, low angst and found family aspect of their queer friends group was so cute (I thought they were all great!) I could definitely relive this grumpy-sunshine duo over and over again. 5 stars!!!!!
