This book was supposed to be my summer vacation/beach read. In that, it failed—but only because I finished it on the plane there!

The Cowboy’s Marriage Bargain turned out to be quite the page-turner, as I sped through it, excited to see how this romance between a widower cowboy and his resourceful accountant would end. Earlier reviewers have done a great job describing the premise, so I will focus on the things I loved about this book. First, the author has a great wit and voice, which had me chuckling at the characters’ quips and quirks. Second, despite being a shorter novel, these characters had wonderful depth and nuance. Their compatibility jumps off the page long before they realize it. Most importantly, the author does a great job weaving deeper, encouraging themes of faith throughout this heartwarming love story.

I look forward to reading more Deborah Clack romances!

I flew through this book because I couldn't put it down!!!! Congrats Deborah on your first PUBLISHED book!!!

Marriage of convenience
You'll love this book!

This is Deborah's first book with Love Inspired and I am sure it won't be her last! Now I want to read all the rest of the siblings stories (Ryder, Cora and Hunter) at Four Cross Ranch.

I loved this story! And there was some of the cutest, laugh out loud moments! But you'll have to read it too see what I'm talking about!

Lexi has had 2 failed engagements and is coming up on her birthday that has an ultimatum attached to it. She needs to be married before her 35th birthday to gain the money in her trust. Or it'll be passed on to a cousin where it'll likely be squandered away.

Chase has many dreams for the ranch, but it requires funding he doesn't have. When Lexi , his Ranch's accountant suggests the Marriage of Convenience, to help him and her... he completely turns it down. But IF they could learn to get along (in increments of course) maybe they could consider this arrangement.

He never wants to marry again, and she also has ruled marriage off the table, so who else is better for their "business arrangement." Something they'll learn very quickly though is they can plan all they want when it comes to love, but the heart doesn't care about their plans. And as the deadline is fast approaching they BOTH find their fake engagement confusing... is it the money making it feel wrong, the fact its all a lie, or perhaps is it starting to feel all too real?!

This was such a wonderful story and I hope that it will become a series. You have a family run ranch with four siblings that includes three brothers and one sister. The twin brothers are the main characters, while the other brother is only mentioned and the sister has another job. Then you have Lexi that is the accountant for the ranch, who is very frugal and knows how to save a penny. Chase, one of the twins, is wanting to start a non-profit for veterans and it seems like things keep happening on the farm that keeps him from his dream. Chase who is a widower has made up his mind to never marry again, then out of the blue Lexi suggests that they get married so that he can see his dream come true. Just how does Lexi think marriage will help Chase, you will have to read the book to find out. You will also see other characters that pop up that I would describe as vultures. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a positive review.

I was so excited when I realized this was a marriage of convenience story! My favorite trope! I loved this story right from page one and couldn't put it down. The characters were all great and I'm hoping we get a few more stories from this family.

THE COWBOY’S MARRIAGE BARGAIN by Deborah Clack is the magnificent story of Chase Cross, co-owner of the Four Cross Ranch, and Lexi Gardner, the ranch’s accountant, and how their working together could possibly lead to something life changing for them both.

After retiring from the military, Chase returned to the family ranch. It’s were he feels at home now. After losing his wife in a tragic skiing accident, he’s sworn off marriage completely. He’ll never take the chance of ever losing someone he loves so completely again. While Hunter was also in the military, he got out when their parents died. He returned home to care for the ranch and see to their two younger siblings, Ryder and Cora. Now with Ryder off on the bull riding circuit and Cora busy delivering babies, the daily operations of the ranch is the full responsibility of Chase and Hunter. They both have dreams of ways to expand the ranch into a non-profit. Chase hopes to build it into a respite for soldiers returning from deployment and for military families desperate for support. Hunter wants to train dogs to be search and rescue or service dogs to help those in need. All this takes money – money they don’t seem to have according to their accountant. Chase refuses to give up on his dream!

Although Lexi had been estranged from her grandmother - due to her mother, she had fortunately found her and had six months getting to know here before her death. While Lexi had known about the conditions of her grandmother’s will for a while now, getting married before her 35th birthday in order to receive a rather large inheritance wasn’t as easy as it sounds. For some reason love and marriage hasn’t been in the cards for her. Oh, she’s been engaged – twice in fact! The first one ended when she found her bridesmaid, who she thought was her best friend, and her fiancée in a compromising situation that had Lexi cancelling her wedding the day before the wedding was to have taken place. The second time, she’d over heard a conversation with her fiancée and her mother talking in detail their arrangement and how the money would be split up. That time she not only lost the man she thought she was going to marry, but it had put a wide wedge between her and her mother. Feeling like there must be something wrong with her, seemingly not of marriage material and a deadline of only one month fast approaching, she’s come up with a plan to satisfy both the needs of the ranch and herself, but dare she approach Chase with her solution.

Can a marriage of convenience enable both Chase and Lexi to get what they want? Can either settle for a marriage without love at the core of it? What will it take to convince Chase that Lexi sees his goals for the ranch and wants to help see them come to fruition? Can Chase show Lexi that she shouldn’t settle for less than she deserves – a marriage made of love with hopes of a family? Will an accident, bring back Chase’s reasoning for never getting married again? Will it be Hunter taking Lexi’s side over his twin’s? Is it possible that real feelings work their magic? But if they do, that wasn’t part of the bargain and does that mean the agreement is void? How will Chase feel when he sees that she is seeking other options? How will Lexi feel knowing Chase is still inquiring about possible financing? Will hurt feeling and doubt chase them both in opposite directions or drive them towards one another? Is it possible for Lexi’s relationship with her mother to be patched?

THE COWBOY’S MARRIAGE BARGAIN is a remarkable story about marriage of convenience, friendship being the base for any good relationship, dreams are worth working for, family, sweet romance and about how sometimes the things we least think will come true – just might. Deborah Clack wraps this story with an incredible threat of faith that will tug at your heart, have you wanting to give a few characters a good shaking and leaves you with a happy heart for this feel-good story. Most definitely FIVE STAR reading at it’s best! Highly recommend THE COWBOY’S MARRIAGE BARGAIN to everyone. Hoping for at least three more stories to come out after this one. After all, each of the Cross siblings need their own story. I’m hoping Hunter’s story is next!

I receive an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

For what I anticipated would be a clean yet "cheesy" Christian romance, I was pleasantly surprised! Good writing, and it hit me much harder in the "feels" than I thought it would (which is my main criteria for a worthwhile romance). I also don't typically enjoy realistic fiction, but this story worked just fine without the historical British or fantasy setting I usually prefer with my romances. Perhaps it was the patriotic element, what with the main characters wanting to help veterans and their families - or the added Christian element with the characters trying to understand God's will in their lives.

I would recommend this for anyone wanting a quick, clean romance, and I look forward to the rest of this "family's" couplings.

PLOT

Lexi's estranged grandmother left Lexi a hefty inheritance, but the trust is tied up until she gets married - and she has to do it before she turns 35. This strange stipulation has created a rift between Lexi and her mother, as Lexi discovered her fiance only wanted to marry her because of the trust which her mother told him about. After moving to Wyoming and becoming reacquainted only briefly with her grandmother, Lexi has worked part-time as the accountant for the Cross family ranch for the past 3 years.

She has to give them some bad news, though. Chase, the stoic twin and experienced soldier, already suspected their financial situation was in trouble: a couple instances of bad luck with weather and sickness, and Chase's pet project of turning part of the ranch into a place for veterans to recover is in serious jeopardy. He'll have to open the ranch to tourists and earn some money in order to fund the nonprofit side of things, or try to secure a loan, but it isn't looking good.

Lexi has an interesting proposal, however: he could marry her. Lexi would prefer her grandmother's money go to a good cause, and if Lexi can't find love, she could at least find someone honorable, and her birthday is looming, only a month away. Who better than the widower with a good heart and unwavering dedication to home and family?

But what happens when this business arrangement starts to become something more for Lexi? Will she be able to go through with it, to save a good man's dreams? Or will she simply let go of the money that has been haunting her all these years & ruined her chances at true love? And is Chase aware he might be ready to finally say goodbye to his deceased wife?

What can possibly go wrong with a marriage of convenience between two consenting adults? Everything when you have two polar opposite individuals who have sworn off marriage.

Rancher Chase Cross has a dream to make his family's ranch a place of refuge for veterans. He is former military and has a heart for the armed forces. This dream will require a lot of money, which he does not have at the moment.

Lexi Gardner is the ranch's accountant, and a burr in his side most of the time. She wants what is best for him and the ranch, but her Gardner Economics, as he calls them, are cramping his style. Lexi comes up with the perfect solution. She has a large inheritance coming her way. However, she must be married before her birthday in order to inherit this money. When she suggests a business arrangement marriage so that Chase will have the money he needs for his ranch, and she will not lose her inheritance, Chase is adamantly opposed to this idea.

As Chase and Lexi try to weigh the pros and cons of a marriage of convenience, they both will find that the past is haunting them and keeping them from having happiness in their future. This was a marriage of convenience story, but it was also an opposites attract story. Their banter back and forth was more like flirting than they wanted to admit. Emotions for both main characters are on full display, and some of those moments were raw allowing vulnerabilities to shine through. New beginnings and hope for a different tomorrow will touch your heart as you dig deeper into their lives. I am hoping to see more from the Cross family in the future.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Author Deborah Clack is new to the Love Inspired family, and I'm so glad she is! With her debut, The Cowboy's Marriage Bargain, she introduces us to ranch owner Chase Cross and accountant Lexi Gardner.
Widower Chase is part owner (along with his siblings) of Four Cross Ranch in Wyoming. Former military, he has a passion for veteran mental health and a dream to operate a non-profit for them on the ranch.
Lexi Gardner, the ranch's accountant, has only been in town a couple years. She was able to spend her grandmother's last weeks with her, and stayed after Ms. Chadwick passed.
Now they both have a problem, and the only feasible solution doesn't appeal to either of them...a marriage of convenience.
Can Chase push aside his promise to never marry again in order to secure funds for his heart's desire...the non profit? Can Lexi overcome her deep lack of self esteem (she thinks herself unworthy of anyone wanting to marry her) and marry Chase to gain access to a conditional trust that will help Chase fulfill his dream? Most of all, can the Lord heal the hearts of two burdened and wounded souls to help them find full solace in Him...and a life with each other?
Find out in The Cowboy's Marriage Bargain! I so enjoyed this sweet charmer of a story, plus it has my favorite, an epilogue!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

I could not put The Cowboy’s Marriage Bargain down. I’m proud to call Deborah Clack one of my closest friends. She’s also one of the most gifted writers I’ve ever encountered and I hope you love her voice as much as I do.

Truthfully, I’m super grateful this book is a winner. Having championed Deborah’s work for a number of years, it’d be really awkward if this was bad. Phew. The premise of this story is clever. A woman who needs to marry to inherit and a ranch owner who has no interest in a relationship but needs funds for an important charity project to support veterans.

Accountant Lexi Gardener and rancher Chase Cross are no one’s idea of a match made in heaven, but there’s something about their relationship that just works at the deepest level. Deborah Clack is witty and wise. This is a clever plot, tightly written and with characters you cheer for from their first appearances on the page. The romance kept me guessing and left me beaming. Bravo.

I read a very early copy of The Cowboy’s Marriage Bargain and then bought my own to put on the bookshelf and smile at. Highly recommended. This is a quick read that’ll pull you in and make you happy.

This is Deborah’s first book for Love Inspired and I am sure she will have many more if they bare as good as her first.

Lexi has to be married by her 35th birthday to gain a trust fund or risk it being passed onto a cousin who would likely blow through it in no time. She has had 2 failed engagements and has only a short time before her birthday.

Chase who is a widower and doesn’t really want to marry again but he wants to start a non profit for veterans on his ranch.

Lexi is the accountant for the ranch and she suggest they get married and use the trust money to help start the non profit.

As they weigh out the pros and cons of a marriage of convenience they both have to face their pasts.

I laughed and cried at times throughout the book, you will have to read it for yourself to find out what happens with the trust fund and the non profit.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. The review expressed here is my honest opinion.

This is Deborah Clack's first published novel and she's hit the ball out of the ballpark! I'm always ready for a good marriage of convenience story and this one is especially unique. Lexi Gardner and Chase Cross have both been deeply wounded by love, and they're complete opposites so it seems unlikely that even a business arrangement will work. What they don't count on is that they genuinely like each other and there's also a thing called chemistry!

The Cowboy's Marriage Bargain is a heartwarming story with sweet romance, some wonderful supporting characters, and a glimpse of what God can do if we allow Him to take the lead! I loved this story and I'm excited to read more in this Four Cross Ranch series. I recommend it to all who enjoy Christian romance!

I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Although this book is the first published work by this author, you would think she is a seasoned author. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of two people who, although for different reasons, do not think they are worthy of finding true love. Lexi stands to inherit a lot of money IF she marries before her upcoming birthday. Chase needs money to keep his family's ranch going. Even though these two argue all the time, they enter an agreement for a marriage of convenience in order to solve both of their problems.

The author does a great job of describing the ups and downs, pangs of conscience, and second thoughts as the wedding date approaches. The family dynamics on the ranch of the four Cross siblings is intriguing. I sincerely hope this becomes a series.

I received an advance copy to read and this is my honest opinion of this book.

Lexi Gardner has a problem. In order to inherit a sizable trust fund her grandmother left her, she must be married by her 35th birthday.

Chase Cross also has a problem. He needs a large amount of money to keep Four Cross Ranch running and to start his Four Cross Hope program for veterans and their families. He has been turned down by the bank for a loan.

Having been burned by her estranged mother's scheming with a former fiancé, who only wanted the money and had promised her mother a cut, Lexi hesitates to ask Chase to marry her to get access to the trust fund.

Will she convince him to marry her in order to start work on Four Cross Hope? Read Deborah Clack's debut Love Inspired to find the answer to this question.

OMS!!! I absolutely loved this story about Chase Cross and Lexi Gardner. I love tropes of marriages of convenience and enemies to lovers. This kinda combines the two and I was in literary heaven. It was such a cute story. I loved their banter that started off as not quite liking each other (ok maybe snarky) to flirting. It had an epilogue which of course made me cry. I had all the feels during this story. I think this is Deborah Clack's first Love Inspired book and I can't wait to read more. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this isn't the last book about the Cross ranch. We have 3 additional siblings now & if their story is anything like Chase's & Lexi's then I say BRING IT ON! I was given a copy, but all opinions are my very own.

Delightful story! Not exactly an enemy to lovers plot, but close. The two main characters squabble a lot because they care, not because they do not. They actually have quite a bit in common, the largest thing is they don’t ever want to be married because of past hurts.

The author created wonderfully well-rounded characters, strong in faith and concern for others. In spite of themselves, they fall in love, and it is a wonderful thing to experience. Two meant-to-be together people find out that love wins.

I was immediately drawn into the story once I began reading and was held captive throughout. When things became tense, humor was present to help with the stressful situation. I truly love the journey Deborah Clack took me on with her lovely tale.

I am a sucker for marriage of convenience stories, add in opposites attract, great banter, pops of humor and I’m all in! I really enjoyed Chase and Lexi’s story. I loved their chemistry and their banter. I also enjoyed how this story was not predictable. I assumed before reading that I basically knew what was going to happen. I was happily surprised when it didn’t! I loved the growth of both Chase and Lexi throughout this story and I loved Chase and his twin brother, Hunter’s, relationship. I am really hoping he gets his own story! The faith thread was seamlessly woven into the story. The following quote really hit home for me:

“You’ll do it every day because fear can’t drive your decisions. You’ll do it every day because there are no guarantees. And you’ll do it every day because that’s the choice we get. To trust God with the things that were his to begin with.”

The Cowboy’s Marriage Bargain is Deborah Clack’s first book, but I’m gonna say she reads more like a seasoned author and is definitely someone I will read again!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is light. 5 stars.

Modern marriage of convenience story - with a twist! Lexi has to be married within 30 days to receive an inheritance and Chase needs money to save the family ranch. What's interesting is that Lexi doesn't want the money herself but wants to keep a questionable relative from inheriting it. There is actually a little mystery involved in this story as well. It catches your interest and keeps you reading until the surprising end. This is my first read by Deborah Clack but it won't be my last. I can't wait to read about the rest of the Cross family. I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.

This is Deborah Clack’s first published book, but I’m sure it won’t be her last! She has such a way with words! I couldn’t help laughing as I hurried thru page after page to see what would happen next! There are great characters, great storyline, and a sigh worthy finish. There are four siblings from the Four Cross Ranch and each one will get their own book! I am really looking forward to these!
Chase Cross needs financial help to get his sanctuary for veterans up and running and Lexie Gardner needs to be married in thirty days in order to get her trust fund. Even tho they can barely get along, why not team up, or rather get married, in order to get the money for the veterans?

Sweet Story

Yes, Lexi and Chase have known each other for some time, but they mainly just tolerate each other. All of that changes when they find themselves in a situation with an uncommon solution. How it all played out was sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and sometimes left me guessing if things would ever work out.

The characters are great, and I loved their interactions, especially their funny banter back and forth. It's a fun and sweet story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

A marriage of convenience 21st century style.

Chase Cross's ranch needs money, Lexie Gardener needs to get married in order to receive a lucrative inheritance. Can two people who don't really get along make a marriage work?

This is a cute story full of hope and characters you will care about.

I received this book from the author. My opinions are my own.

THE COWBOY’S MARRIAGE BARGAIN
by Deborah Clack
Release Date June 25 2024

Fun, loving marriage of convenience story!
This is my first book by Deborah and it definitely will not be the last. I am definitely hoping that this will become a series.

The story takes place on the Four Cross Ranch.
Chase Cross and his brother Hunter run the ranch. Ryder is off on the bull riding circuit. Cora is a midwife and busy delivering babies.

Lexi Gardner is the accountant for the ranch, and she is beyond frugal.

Chase has a dream for the ranch. He wants to make it into a nonprofit getaway for veterans. Someplace for them to heal or to just figure out how to get back into normal life.

But unfortunately, Lexi has to tell Chase that the funds just are not there to make that happen. However, she does have a solution! Will Chase take her up on it?

Deborah did an amazing job and I really hope that she decides to share the siblings story with us.

I was asked to read this story and give my honest review.

precious Love Story

I was riveted to this book from the minute I started it! It was so sweet how these two got together, but wanted the best for each other, even if it meant sacrificing the relationship for the other one’s best. Loved the ending!!
