I don't even know how this book came under my radar, but as soon as I saw that COVER of course my cover hoe eyes yelled at me to BUY it!! I've not read either of these authors before either so I kind of have to change that also!!
For so long it was just the 3 boys, Meyers, Chuck and Bates, the fearsome threesome, best mates who were inseparable, until at the age of twelve a pretty girl moved in across the road from Meyers, and everything changed.
These three were the gods of the school, jocks, and the mean girls were territorial around them so didn't take too kindly for a new comer stepping in a claiming what was rightly theirs. These boys were so soft hearted, but what they were put through was heart wrenching.
To protect her, they had to unfriend her, ignore her, stop talking to her, you get the picture, she had no idea what she'd done wrong. One minute everything was perfect, the next minute her world becamse lonely and unbearable, but the boys thought if they played their cards right and followed these girls demands that they would back off and leave Carrie alone.
Sadly that's not how this story goes. These group of mean girls and yes a few guys too upped the anty and things would never be the same again.
This is broken down into 3 parts, the 1st part I really enjoyed, I loved getting to know the characters, what made them tick, their bonds, their protective natures. The lengths these boys went to keep her safe. Touch her and die vibes when it came to her.
It does delve into some tough topics, the bullying and everything it entailed was switched up a notch in this book to others I've read, these girls were merciless, but got their just deserts in the end.
The second part was like a switch had been switched and it went where I wasn't expecting it, I did not see any of that coming.
The third part tied it all up nicely with the perfect HEA ending.
Personally I don't have any triggers, but what I really liked about this was the authors would give you fair warning at the beginning of a chapter if it was going to dump some darkness on you, and for some I think they would appreciate that, so that was definitely a thumbs up.
I’m not sure about this one. The blurb was amazing and SAW retelling, I was expecting brutality and pig masks. The story didn’t fit the blurb. The torture/killing part is there but at 70% when in most stories the characters have gotten their acts together and gone on a revenge killing. The killing was there and the guys had to watch. For the majority the most horror this gets is the names. Bates, Chuck, Meyers and Carrie.
Up until that point it’s an entire backstory from childhood meet-up in a small town to when they lose what they love. Initially, I liked the way the boys were protective. As they got older it started to feel along the lines of a bully romance, protection became overprotective and felt a little controlling.
Still, I liked the boys up until they stumbled on the rape plot and chained themselves to the three witches. Miscommunication and childish stupidity. The way they turned cold and shut Carrie out was annoying and for the most part I skimmed past their decisions.
By the halfway point I was wondering if I’d picked up the wrong book, with the boys getting drugged and Carrie temporarily escaping the town. It got to the point where almost every character was probably going to end up maimed in one way or the other.
The bad chapters have warnings right at the beginning which was nice. So yeah, rape, miscarriage and suicide.
The game finally kicks in at revenge time, right when the boys reconnect their friendship in another way and I have to say it’s my favourite part of the story. A bit full on M/M and M/M/M but it was a nice change and lightened the story somewhat. Not sure on the daddy stuff for all of them.
The games went by fast. No limbs were hacked off, it was pretty much a free for all dick chopping for the minions, with the guys playing witness.
The ending was a sweet HEA going down the pregnancy/family route, which was probably the most bizarre thing. Trauma, revenge killing and moving on to happy families. 3.5 stars.

This book is my absolute favourite by these two authors. I lovedddddd all the classic movie innuendos! Best to go in blind to get the full experience.
This book is dark with extreme bullying and trauma. Tons and tons of twists and turns that were true agony, but I just couldn’t put the book down.
I loved each and every one of Carries guys! Chuck being my favourite. 😏
I loved how close you get with Carrie .You feel so much for her that you want to just hold her hand or even punch one of those girls in the face at times. It’s the best character they have written in my opinion.
I do wish the Choice games were longer dragged out to have absolutely the best revenge but it was still so good!
Omg omg omg omg! I am never disappointed by Jenn and Amber but let me tell you this book quite literally sucked me in and didn’t let me go until I was done. Being honest I am sad it’s a stand alone but glad that there wasn’t a cliffy! This book is full of twists and turns and chaos! You never knew what was gonna happen next! If you love some chaos and dark romance you don’t wanna miss this, especially if you’re not ready to let Halloween go!
What an adventure this book took us.. to some amazing moments, to the dark and dirtiest moments.. this book has it all and nothing is left to the imagination!! Great book, alot of plot twists.
My mind is freaking blown, in a very very VERY good way! I don’t even know where to begin w/this book. It’ll take you a roller coaster ride like none other. It’s about finding your soulmates, feeling betrayed, having your heart ripped out, getting so bullied & feeling like you’re completely alone, having your innocence ripped away, & getting the vengeance against everyone whose wronged you. This book will definitely make you want to throw your phone & smash it, it’ll make you feel the pain Carrie felt & your heart will literally break w/her. It’s intense, emotional, & heartbreaking. I hated & couldn’t stand how even after Meyers, Bates & Chuck made their deal & broke Carrie’s heart, they stood by & watched everyone torment her. When the bullying didn’t stop they should’ve called off the deal immediately. It made me beyond angry that they still went along w/the deal. She felt so alone, & it was heartbreaking to read. I loved how Ms. Kay defended Carrie and was a solid person in her life. And can I just say how absolutely amazing of a friend Kiernan was. He was a godsend & her guardian angel. He entered her life just when she needed him the most. I was a little mad & wanted to shake sense into Carrie for how quickly she forgave the guys. I couldn’t believe it. This book was a complete mind f*** in the best way! I wanted to devour it & I wanted to take my time & savor it! By the time I got to the second part it was like I reading a whole other book! Things really ramped up & vengeance was served when Blakely came out to play!

This is definitely a Dark Rom of SAW meets the Mindf*ck series. Mind your triggers! The story really plays with your emotions, in the best sadistic way. It will have you laughing and rooting for young love, pull a 180 to have you yelling at dumb teenage decisions, to heart break with the theft of innocence, then have your stomach drop at how fast everything can change. “The paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect.”
The story ends with a HEA, but boy do they make you earn it! I actually would have loved the second part to have been a separate book so we could have really deep dived into the games and the development of the main characters. But definitely a must read.
This book is absolutely phenomenal!!! I have never watched any of the Saw movies, so I wasn't sure how this book was going to go but I was completely blown away. Every time that I thought I had figured out what was going to happen another twist was thrown in to keep me guessing. This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster, which is no surprise if you have read anything from Amber Nicole and Jenn Bullard. I felt like they ripped my heart out at certain points but then had me cheering for these characters get the vengeance they needed and deserved.
I loved Carrie. She is put through the ringer in this book but her story is one that will stick with me. I know I won't be forgetting this book any time soon and I can't wait to go back and read it again. Meyers, Bates, and Chuck start out as clueless boys but their character development is on point. I wanted to slap them so many times in the beginning, but the depth their characters show throughout the rest of the book is great. I honestly couldn't get enough of them or the steamy scenes that they create!
This is a perfect book to release on Halloween; I mean all of the main characters have names from horror movies. If you enjoy a book that will leave you guessing while pulling out every emotion then you need to read this book right away. This is a dark book so be sure to check the trigger/content warning.
Ok I’m going to start by saying that I love dark horror erotic books, there are few trigger warnings that make me uncomfortable. This book should have been cake for me. The topics were heavy, the bullying was cruel, there were on-page rape scenes (yes more than one). However, this was SO poorly written with the cringiest dialogue I have ever read. There was no attraction build up between anyone, just insta lust. The adults didn’t act like adults, the kids never acted like kids. And to top it off, they were 15 and 16 year old kids this whole time!!!! The sex scene was on her 17th birthday, please tell me how 4 virgins had filthy dirty group sex? Plus the “saw retelling” didn’t happen until about 70% in. This book was not difficult to read because of content, it was difficult to read because of the pointless drama and terrible plot points and even worse characters. I realize this isn’t a book that is read for the plot and character development, but even pure nasty taboo smut can be well written. I see where the author was going, I really do, but this was a major major miss. I do appreciate the trigger warnings at the start of rough chapters. I would have DNFd long before the end but it was a book club book so I pushed through.
Game of Survival is a contemporary, suspenseful romance written by Jenn Bullard and Amber Nicole.
💜 childhood friends 💜 found family 💜 small town 💜 haunted house 💜 🌶🌶🌶 spice
Chuck, Meyers, and Bates all live next to each and have been best friends for as long as they can remember. They all typically hang out at Meyers’ house because his mom, Ms Kay, is like a second mom to the other to boys. One summer, they notice a moving truck at the house across the street. Hoping they have someone their age moving in so they have another friend to play with. After going over to say hi, they meet Carrie. They quickly become inseparable. When high school starts, the men girls start up as well on Carrie, but not the guys because they’ve become football stars. Will they be able to get the mean kids to stop picking on Carrie? Will Carrie be ok?
This story is such a rollercoaster ride. So much happens. It’s also a perfect love story and story with suspense for the Halloween season as well. As usual, Amber Nicole and Jenn Bullard know how to bring the drama and twists in a big way. This story is a stand alone and is worth the journey it takes you on.
Amber Nicole & Jenn Bullard are at it again. They've released another dark book that makes you feel things and makes you question your morals. I find myself always rooting for the revenge that happens in their books. This is especially true in Game of Survival.
The book is split into 3 parts. The first part takes place when Carrie, Chuck, Meyers, and Bates are in high school. Part 2 takes place 3 years after the ending of part 1. It's also where the game portion of the book happens. I normally am not a fan of gore, whether it be in books or on screen. This book, however, had me happy to read about the gore that happens. Part 3 is what happens after the game.
Any book that Amber & Jenn write together is fantastic. But please, please, please make sure you check the triggers. They write dark stuff, and this is one of their darker books.
𝕔𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕥/𝕥𝕣𝕚𝕘𝕘𝕖𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕤: Underaged Drinking, Underage Sex, Drugging of a minor, Rape of a minor, Non-Con, Dub-Con, Suicidal Thoughts and Ideation, Suicide, Severe Bullying, Victim Blaming, Un-aliving, Mentioning of loss of child/Miscarriage, Graphic Scenes, PTSD, Fat Shaming, Torture, Child Abuse, BDSM-lite, Manipulation, Cheating (not MCs)
I actually went back to my kindle app to check that I downloaded the correct book before writing this. I cannot understand why so many people like this.
I was rolling my eyes so hard at around 15% when the whole premise of the “break-up” was set up, because the logic in this argumentation was riddled with holes and the scene was told in such a weird way. Even before, everything about this book felt unnatural to me. The parents don’t act like parents. The kids don’t act like kids. All the dialogue is cringeworthy. I feel no attraction between the main characters. I cannot distinguish the characters of the boys. All the characters are either faultlessly good or absolutely evil. They have no depth. Everything feels over-the-top and unnecessarily dramatic. The writing, I really don’t know what it is, but it sets me off.
Honestly this book feels like a parody of the whole high school rh genre. Maybe it should’ve been a Scary Movie retelling instead.
dnf at 20% because I’ve lost all hopes of this getting any better.
Amber and Jenn have never let me down, and they only seem to get better.
I loved it!! Especially the haunted house part, which i wish made up more of the book.
Loved the storyline, but please read the triggers as there are definitely some parts that are upsetting, but the triggers are written very well and also be ready for an emotional rollercoaster ride its intense.
The story is a why-choose bully romance loosely based on a saw re-telling and is full of drama, protectiveness, heartbreak, first loves, revenge, amazing spice (includes MM and MMM) with twists and turns that will make your head spin.
So the characters. Of course, you have to love Cassie and her boys Meyers, Chuck, Bates, and her best gay friend Kiernan they are well developed and all have great personalities. The boys all play an important part in Cassie's heartbreaking story, but will they help end it.
I think this is the first book I've ever read that I wasn't sure if it was gonna have a happy ending or not 😭😭
Oh my god the stuff that these characters went through was INSANE. Like they never had a break. All they wanted to do was love each other and people made so impossible 😭
Overall the book was definitely interesting. Had me hooked from the very beginning especially bc there was always something going on. I never would have guessed about what would happened next so a lot took me by surprise.
In all honesty it was kind of hard for me to take the very beginning of the book seriously. As entertaining and emotional as it was I just couldn't help but shake my head at the fact that these 14 year olds dead thought they could run the school. That's another thing these characters went through literally hell when they were that young.
Definitely admire all of them for never turning on each other and never stop caring for one another. The love all four of them have Is incredible.
There are a lot of potential triggers because this book is dark. I highly recommend you read them to know what you're getting into. With another book by this duo, you know you're in for a crazy ride. You'll go through an entire rollercoaster of emotions because these 2 authors like putting their readers through the wringer before giving them a HEA.
I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll tell you there were moments where this book ripped my heart out. Our fmc went through some horrible things. After all the horror and pain, she decided revenge was the way to go. I can respect that.
Her harem, what can I say about them? I adored them until I didn't only to go ahead and fall back in love with them.
It's a perfect read for Halloween or if you're just in the mood for well written dark romance.
This book was surprisingly a quick page-turner. The environment and atmosphere Amber Nicole creates rapidly develop into an intricate narrative that can be easily pictured within the reader's mind. The story does end in HEA, but the road to getting there is extensive and, at least this reader, wished the author dived a little more into the build-up and development of the "games." Character development was very well done for the main characters, as well as a very thorough background, but the final section of the book could have been a book on its own. Really wish we could have seen Blakely develop even more as an intrinsic character and better understand the development of the games rather than such a quick and startling jump into this new persona.
Sooo, i loved it!!! This book was very different, it was very dark but has a really enjoyable plot and characters.
Please beware the triggers, there are a lot!!!
There is just one thing, why I didnt give it 5 stars: i would have loved some more plot in the end. It kinda ended too soon for me, it has a really cool Epiloge, but i would have loved more plot to the second and third parts of the book, it ended kinda abruptly.
But i loved the FMC and MMCs. They are really likeable and even when young and naive really realistic.
I‘m pretty sure I never read something like this book before and i love it when i get to read a RH with a complete different style while still being a contemporary romance!
I wanted to like this more, but part two and three were the only good parts of the book. I spent most of the book waiting for the games. I think if I didn't read the blurb, I might have liked it more. Carrie was frustrating, and the boys were stupid as he'll for leaving her. It didn't make sense because the others still tortured Carrie in front of them... Anyway, I can forgive them for their stupidity. What I don't understand is how they went from brothers to lovers... I skimmed through part one, so maybe I just missed it, but it was a shock and unnecessary. It took away from their love for Carrie in my eyes. Oh well. I still recommend you read it just don't expect the games to happen until 80% through the book. Make sure you check your trigger warnings because they happen out of the blue in the story. But the author gives you warning.
This book was unputdownable. That's all I have to say. That's all there was to say. Absolutely loved all the characters. Especially Chuck. He was the one that I just connected with the most. But Meyers and and Bates were great as well. Can you see where the authors went in naming their characters. The FMC is named Carrie. Absolutely loved the entire story and did I scream a bit after part 1? You bet I did! But don't worry, it's a standalone!
This small town has a lot of secrets. A lot of secrets that people try to keep hidden. But how far is someone willing to go for vengeance? How deep do secrets stay buried?
Review the trigger warnings before you start. I enthusiastically enjoy twisted gore and graphic smutt! This one hits both. Although I enjoyed the book I did struggle in some sections where it stuttered the story flow in my mind with a hesitant choppy tone. Carrie is a likeable FMC. Chuck, Bates, and Myers are lovable MMCs. And I absolutely loved the MM swirling in their friendship from almost the very beginning. The book takes you through a gambit of emotions: the joy of childhood friendship, the exhilaration of puppy love, the steam of sexual attraction, the pain of bullying, the devastation of loss, the rage of revenge justice, and the pure unadulterated joy of HEA!
What a whirlwind of a book. This was perfect book for the spooky season. Amber and Jenn are the masters of darkness that toy with your emotions. I could not put this down even when I was falling asleep at 3am because I was just trying to get to the end so I was in the know. CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS. Yes I am yelling. This is not for the faint of heart. There are deep and dark sections that are not for everyone.
This story was captivating, heart breaking, emotional, raw and down right dirty in the best ways possible.
Okay so read read the trigger warnings for this one and cos it turns into a rough ride but I promise you it’s worth it if you can!!
So not going to lie I found the first few chapters a little bit weird cos the MCs are so young but I’m glad I persevered because the insight and plot development you get makes it worth it.
The boys yes make a weird decision and it’s infuriating but oh m gee do we get a sick, twisted but satisfying resolution!!
Lots of spice, more MM than MF in my opinion, but it’s all adds to this dark dark story!
Expect a many twist and turns in this book that is for sure. This is a perfect read if you love horrors and with it being Halloween soon you won't want to miss this read.
This book made me want to cry and want to scream at times but was a great read yet again by these two Authors.
Read the trigger warnings before you read this book as there is quiet a few to be made aware off. There is also MM content.
This book is jammed pack full of childhood love, bullying (kinda from the MMCs but mostly outside), heartbreak, tragedy, hot spice, and a bit of psychotic revenge. Don’t worry though, there is absolutely a happy ending.
CHECK THE TRIGGERS!!! This is a super heavy dark romance, and it is wonderful, but the triggers are some deep ones.
Carrie and her guys make you want to laugh, cry, hit something, scream, but also one hand read 🤭😉.
Amber and Jenn do not take it easy on us, but it is pretty fast moving and they disappoint!
This book was not as dark as I was thinking it would be (maybe I’m becoming desensitized? Who knows..)(do beware of the triggers/heavy topics though), I loved seeing a lot of the book focused on how their friendships started with them being protective over her, the guys’ relationships was also hawt. Definitely some surprises near the end.
I have read almost everything that Jenn and Amber have written together. I’ve loved them all, and this one is no different. They are all dark and twisted, but I think this might be their most twisted story yet!!! And in the best possible way! The things Carrie goes through in this story are absolutely atrocious, and the guys to their best to try to protect her. In that process, they end up with trauma of their own. There are lots and lots of triggers and some amazing twists and turns. If you love dark, depraved, and twisted, this book is for you! Loved it!!!
This was definitely a unique book! Very different from what I am used to reading which is why I gave it four stars. The mind twist and revenge in this book was great! I am so happy the people who deserved nothing but hell got theirs in the end. Carrie and the boys were immediate soul mates, and I wish their story could have been a fairytale instead of a nightmare. They do find their way back to each other, and I live for that!!
That being said, I felt a lot of frustration in this book. The boys deciding to take that deal, and then to have those people not follow ANY rules that were set in place was ridiculous. It was annoying that these boys just let it happen and never once stood up for themselves and the situation. They all went through hell, and for what, they had pull with their star status and Carries dad was a cop. It just felt like two separate books. One that was crazy and you couldn’t connect with the way things played out, and then this amazing revenge plot that honestly saved the book for me. The reason I could give this book 4 stars is for the revenge games alone. The spice was amazing too! Chuck, Bates, and Meyers are hot. The chemistry was so good.
4.5 stars A mind trip indeed so check those triggers. The storyline was unique. Meyers, Chuck and Bates fall for Blakely/Carrie. Even when she feels ashamed they love and support her. She goes through alot and when she gives them the news about Tiffany they don't bat an eye. The love between them all was strong. Check the TW
Game of Survival is a masterpiece of thrilling suspense and love. Bl00d and g0re decorations were spectacular written by Jenn Bullard and Amber Nicole. Carrie faces small town nightmare with bulling and so much worse, but under all the secrets and lies, lays love, friendships, and loyalty. A dark, small-town horror, why choose romance filled with mmm spice and all things bl00dy. It was a slow start, but it was so good. Twists and turns, steam and revenge, revelations and healing. Bingeable read, unputdownable and unpredictable and captivating. Excellent Halloween read. Trigger warnings. Found family. MM. Revenge. Breeding.
