Set sail with this banter-filled rivals-to-lovers romance between a STEM-loving girl and a jock guy that will fill you with wanderlust...and have you rooting for love in the great outdoors!

Love is on the horizon...

After a very public breakup where her ex, Caleb, told her she is both, a.) boring, and b.) stuck in her ways, Savannah Moore decides her mom’s company cruise to Alaska is the perfect opportunity to show people that she can be fun. One new thing a day should be enough to prove to others, and herself, that she isn’t “Moore the Bore.”

Stepping out of her comfort zone isn’t easy, especially since her long-time nemesis, Tanner Woods, is also on the ship. His family and hers are friends, and Tanner knows her—and her true self—better than she’d like to admit.

When he learns of her plan, Tanner offers to help Savannah be adventurous and encourages her to try absolutely everything—zip lining and dogsledding, hiking the bear-infested Alaskan wilderness, late-night karaoke, and a polar plunge. Savannah will win Caleb back by showing him just what he’s missing.

Except after spending so much time with Tanner, soon she’s not sure Caleb is the one she wants anymore…

This delightful YA romance is utterly heartwarming and sure to make you swoon! The Alaska cruise setting comes to life with vivid, colorful descriptions, weaving together an enchanting tale of freenemies turned lovers, opposites attracting, and wickedly entertaining banter. The story beautifully explores the blossoming friendship and self-discovery of a STEM-loving girl and a jock, making it absolutely irresistible!

Love is undeniably in the air, and everywhere in the sky smells like love.

Savannah Moore is still healing from the wounds of public humiliation inflicted by her ex-boyfriend, Caleb, who dumped her in a parking lot in front of the entire school crowd. Her school friends now whisper her new nickname, "Moore the Bore."

Savannah, strict and averse to trying new things, clings to her routine and schedule, which provide a steady life plan—until her biological father disrupts it with his unconventional methods. Is it really so bad to choose the safe side, avoid risks, and follow the rules?

Enter Tanner Woods, the carefree, entertaining, and popular school athlete—an old nemesis who lives life on the edge, rejecting orders.

Their mothers, coincidentally coworkers vying for a promotion, throw them together when both families accept an all-expenses-paid Alaska cruise. Savannah finds herself stuck with her arch-nemesis for an extended trip.

Confused by Tanner's unexpectedly kind treatment after her breakup, Savannah wonders if he has a hidden agenda. When he proposes a mutually beneficial plan, she can't refuse. The simple deal: Tanner helps her step out of her comfort zone to show her ex how much fun she can have, and in return, she assists him in choosing his college major. What could possibly go wrong? Yet, as they discover each other's true selves and explore new experiences, Savannah realizes that Caleb may not be the one she truly wants. The person who makes her genuinely happy might be standing right in front of her.

This book is a delightful blend of sweetness, swoon-worthy moments, and pure joy! I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend you dive in and savor every page.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s/Delacorte Press for providing me with a digital review copy of this enjoyable book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

3.5 stars, rounded up. A pretty cute YA rom-com about two L.A. teens on an Alaskan cruise with their families (all friends) with the old enemies-to-lovers trope. I have a second AK cruise coming up myself later this summer, so it’s helped me get into the mood & start planning the rest of our trip. A nice palate cleanser of a book!

⊹ "I didn't want to be with someone who put me in a box. I was far too skilled at doing that to myself. I wanted someone who showed me I could break out of it then helped me do it and supported me as I did. someone who wouldn't, as Tanner had pointed out, run away when I tried to climb back into it, but would help me be my best even when I couldn't see what that meant." ៹࣪
⭑𓂃 ⌗ my thoughts

so cute, it was an absolutely amazing palate cleanser after the made series! plus, I really loved the setting—I mean, a cruise ship? alaska? say less. exploring the world with tanner & savannah was so fun to follow 🙂‍↕️

⭑𓂃 ⌗ quotes

"half of me wanted that, half wanted to run, and half wanted to melt into a puddle under the heat of his gaze. and yes, that was too many halves, but Tanner had reduced me to violating the laws of mathematics."

"and what is it you want. Savannah?"
"isn't that obvious? I want you. if you want that, too. I mean, us."
"how can I not want someone willing to face their fears to rescue me? someone who challenges me and makes me laugh? someone who helps me be better but accepts me when I'm not?"

"I'd be fine without either of them. I didn't need a guy. but was it wrong to enjoy spending time with one who made me happy and brought out parts of me I didn't know existed?"

This was so much entertainment! Now all i wanna do is go on a cruise ship and explore the world with a hot jock and eat all varieties of food while at it🍲🍔Who knew they had so many damn options. Just reading about it made me hungry lol😂🤤

PLOT

Savannah Moore and Tanner Woods have been rivals for a long time. From competing for Presidency of the astrology club, getting higher grades than the other one to outrunning each other they compete for everything.
Only one issue, their moms are best friends so they are stuck with each other on all those summer trips and celebratory vacations.
After getting dumped by her boyfriend in a humiliating way in front of all her classmates and getting named "Moore the Bore" Savannah decides to show everyone just how interesting she can be. She makes a pact with Tanner that he help her not only have fun but also document the journey along the way.📷

My thoughts

This was so much more than a YA romcom. The way in which Savannah and Tanner help each other in discovering what they are good at and which career path to choose for college was really interesting. They paid attention to all the small details and chose perfectly for each other.

“Don’t laugh, but the idea intimidates me? I get overwhelmed with not knowing what to expect. Where to park, how bad would traffic be, what food they’d have. I don’t love going into new situations unprepared. You probably never worry about that.”
Savannah was a bit annoying at times. She doesn't like change and loves routines so much that even her breakfast has to be the same toast 🍞, banana🍌 and a specific brand of yogurt. Trying new foods or new activities gives her anxiety and stress. This habit of hers affects people around her and she's unaware of it. She's a STEM girl and loves machines. I loved her character development.

"Stop thinking small for yourself. Go all in, in life, in what you love. Dream big and see what’s out there.”
Tanner my boy😍 is definition of perfect🤌He was so understanding and supportive of Savannah. He never made fun of her and the way he brings her out of her shell was so damn sweet🥰
HE CALLS HER SMORE'S😭😭

This was a reverse grumpy/sunshine. It also mentioned some important topics like how your parents perceive you is how you see yourself sometimes. And reality is much more different from that.

I really loved this book and I'll be definitely exploring more of Becky's work.

DNF @ 34% due to content.

I was really enjoying this book but unfortunately as the content got more concerning I couldn’t continue to read it in good conscience as a Christian. I will include the one of the snippets that caused me to DNF. The other I won’t be including bc it has to do with spiritual matters and I’m just uncomfortable including it. It’s a shame cause I was really enjoying this but it’s not worth it if I don’t really feel right reading it with the content.

- There was a mention of the FMC wanting to put a finger up towards the MMC.
- A mention of selling your soul

This book was fine. It was cute and lighthearted and I liked the banter between Savannah and Tanner. They were an adorable couple and the highlight of the book without a doubt. However, I had a hard time relating to Savannah. She was very particular about everything. I mean I have a tendency to stay within my comfort zone too, but she was on a whole different level. Her condescension and haughty attitude towards Tanner bothered me at times too. I get it is part of her character arc, but it took a while before she grew on me. I also found the book to be so boring. I mean they are on an Alaskan cruise trip and doing so many different excursions, but nothing stood out to me. It was all very bland and I think this book was a bit too young for me as well. All in all, this was just average for me. I debated rating it three stars, but I contemplated DNFing several times so I’m sticking with my two stars.

Okay but this is my new favorite Becky Dean! I love Savannah and Tanner’s dynamic and I relate with her being nervous about trying to new things and everything that could go wrong! Many laugh out loud moments for me! It was such a great summer read, highly recommend it!

THIS WAS SOOO SO SO GOOD!!! maybe i just loved it because i love going on cruises and it made me feel like i just stepped into a ship, but oh my gosh i couldn’t put it down!

tanner was the most perfect guy for savannah!! he always knew exactly what she needed and was quite literally willing to do anything to make her feel comfortable. their relationship just makes so much sense and it made me so happy to read about! i’m glad she was able to step out of her box a little and start to try new things!

i also absolutely loved the cruise ship setting and it’s so obvious that the author has been on cruises because every little detail was perfect. down the fact that when you first board the ship you walk into the atrium and then naturally gravitate towards the buffet. i loved reading about the formal nights at dinner, the karaoke (which i have sang myself on a cruise ship a few times😅😅), the shows, and just every other little cruise detail. if you can’t tell i really really really love cruises HAHAHA

also i never had even heard of becky dean before i randomly found this book but i literally went and bought another of her books tonight so i am a little hooked and i totally recommend reading something of hers because i will be reading them all!

I often struggle to write positive reviews since I'm really good at hating things. Like, I could write hate reviews for a living if they just came off my two-am thoughts. Now once they come down to actually writing a good positive review it ends up just being--

I uh. liked it?

but this one--i really liked. go read it and chapter 22 is my favorite. nothing like a good milkshake to forge a friendship *cough* relationship

Gosh, where do I start with this book? To be honest, most of the time when I was reading "hearts overboard", I really didn't think I would rate it almost 5 stars in the end. It started really slow and it was boring as hell to me. But somewhere between 150 pages and 200 pages, I fell in love. I loved the relationship between main characters, descriptions of places they went to were on point!! If you want a young adult book with rivals to lovers and a slow burn, I definitely recommend this book!

⋆˚࿔ Tanner Woods: 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
MARRY ME. This guy is so kind-hearted, funny and amazing that I feel like crying when I remember that man like this don't exist in real life 😭. Like, this man right here ran around the ship begging people to make him Savanna's favorite cocktail when she was sick to give it to her later. ISN'T THAT SO CUTE?? Savanna was so lucky fr. But he was also a very interesting character who felt real. I wanted to jump into the book and give him a big hug, because I understand. I understand the feeling of not being enough and I really connected to his character.

⋆˚࿔ Savanna Moore: 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
I loved her nickname S'more, that was so cute! And she wasn't boring to me. She was one of the female characters in books you really want to follow and they don't annoy you. She was a great character and an amazing person. It would be great to have her as a friend!!

⋆˚࿔ Caleb: 𝜗𝜚˚⋆
Get away from me. How do you dare to embarrass our girl Savanna like that! I really didn't like him but now I think that he's not the villain in the story. His and Savannas relationship just never made sense.

⋆. 𐙚 ˚

This book is not just a cute romance. The story talks about stepping out of our comfort zone and that if you never try, you'd never know. This explains some relationship problems as well, that when we get an image in our head, an image of ourselves with someone who seems to be a safe option, we're not opening for better options. But what if out there, there's something better waiting for us?

∘⭑➶. That would be it! Thanks for reading my review and I really recommend that book.

This book, was warm and cozy.

It’s set on a cruise through Alaska. There’s so many activities that happen throughout the book and it’s so fun to read.

I loved Savanah and Tanners dynamic, after Savanah got broken up with she was surprised with her life long rivals sweetness, since their parents are best friends they are all going on the same work cruise and lemme tell you, the forced proximity😍

Also the amount of butterfly’s I got from this book 😆

The only reason it’s not a five star is because I didn’t relate to Savanah as much as I have with other characters, but I thought it was really interesting to read about, she loves space and science, along with math.

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've wanted to specifically go on an Alaskan cruise for longer than I can remember and this book absolutely reinforced that desire.

Hearts Overboard immediately became a favorite YA Romance when I read it and put @beckydeanwrites on my must-read author list (you know, the list we readers all cart around in our heads?).
Savannah's boyfriend breaks up with her, calls her boring, and it's in front of everyone. Mortified, she decides she has to prove to them and to herself that she can be fun. Going on a cruise to Alaska with her parents seems like the perfect solution. So what if she doesn't like trying things that are new? But Tanner, the jock she can't stand, is also aboard the ship and ignoring him is next to impossible.
It’s incredibly sweet and I think would be a joy to read for those who loved Dungeons and Drama or 10 Blind Dates. It’s rivals-to-lovers/family friends featuring a girl in love with STEM and the boy who makes her eyes roll. I loved it and am excited to read Becky's next book this summer!
Thank you get underlined for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

What's this? A new favorite of Becky Dean's??

I don't know if it's possible to have a favorite, they're all so good. 🤩😂 But this... This one was superb!! The setting was so fun and vividly real! It made the entire story so fun although I think Tanner and Savannah would be fun no matter the setting.

Tanner and Savannah... 🥹🥰🫶 I love them so, so much!! I relate too much with Tanner and even though I didn't relate as much with Savannah she was still thrilling! They're both a blast and the cutest couple. 🥹

I highly recommend this book!! Seriously, you need this book in your life. 🫶

Becky Dean is quickly becoming one of my favorite YA romance authors. Hearts overboard follows Savannah from the last day of junior year when her life gets turned upside down by a very public breakup. She comes up with a plan to try new and exciting things while on her 2 week vacation with her parents and her parents best friends, including their son tanner her rival at school. They compete for grade and the coveted astronomy club presidency but what happens if they can put their differences aside and work together for once?

The characters were cute together and I love the way Dean writes the snarky teenage banter. I can’t wait to read more by this author

„Hearts Overboard“ had potential, but the adventure aspect didn’t quite land for me. The story felt like a constant back-and-forth, making it hard to stay engaged. As for Savannah, I’m torn—I’d roll my eyes at some of her comments, but other times, she’d say or think things that hit so close to home. It left me unsure of how I felt about her overall. On the bright side, Tanner was a solid character, and I really enjoyed his moments. Overall, an okay read, but not one that fully swept me away.

I really enjoyed Hearts Overboard! This cute YA romance had the perfect mix of banter, adventure, and sweet moments. What I loved most was how Tanner constantly pushed Savannah to step out of her comfort zone. Whether it was zip-lining or braving a polar plunge, Tanner was always there, nudging her toward new experiences and helping her break free from the "boring" label her ex unfairly stuck her with.

The slow burn between Savannah and Tanner was *so* well done. You could just tell that Tanner had feelings for her the whole time, but both were fighting their emotions, which made their eventual connection even more rewarding. Their chemistry kept me hooked from start to finish, and the backdrop of Alaska was breathtaking—definitely filled me with some serious wanderlust!

This is a great listen if you're looking for a fun, rivals-to-lovers romance full of adventure and heart. The perfect escape for fans of YA romance!

This was a really fun enemies to lovers, forced proximity, YA summer romance between two high school rivals who are on an Alaska cruise vacation with their families. I loved how these two opposites helped one another expand their boundaries, try new things and go after what they really want. Perfect for fans of authors like Emma Lord and Lynn Painter. It was also excellent on audio and I really enjoyed the Alaska setting! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @prhaudio for a complimentary ALC!

OH MY GOSH WHAT DID I JUST READ??!!!
I’m like fangirling so much right now
Where do I start?

The banter, the characters, the cruise, the romance…. I loved EVERY. SINGLE. THING.
Oh and I just LOVE the enemies-to-lovers trope, like a lot lol

I really liked how the book mainly focused on their cruise vacation and how fast paced it was, yet Becky Dean makes those 2 weeks last a whole book! All the cool activities that Tanner and Savannah got to do was written perfectly with the right pacing and a whole lot of fun. You can count on me reading and rereading this book when I go on vacation!

Savannah was honestly not entirely my favorite, just because of the fact that she didn’t want to try anything new. I realize that yes, Tanner brought out the adventure in her more and that she went through some things that made her that way; but it almost seemed like she was afraid of everything. I did really like her by the end though… all the experiences and things she did with Tanner made her bloom!
Ok now for my favorite character.. we all know who it is.. Our very dear, very cute, very funny, and very sweet Tanner.
Ahhhhh what can I say about him?!
Honestly, he’s adorable. I cannot with him.. like come on! From DAY ONE he was the sweetest thing to S’more! (Also I love that nickname-super cute)
I seriously need someone in my life like Tanner.. what would I do if I never got a guy like him?!
Have I ever said that I absolutely LOVE a guy with sarcasm? Well I really do.
Anyways, Becky Dean wrote Tanner Pur-Fect-Ly. It almost seemed like Tanner had fallen first way before Savannah, I’m not sure.. but it really seemed like that way🧐🤔
Overall, all the characters were done so well-although I really didn’t like Tanner’s parents.😠

In conclusion, this was my first book I’ve read by Becky Dean and I can officially say that Im in love with her writing! I adored Hearts Overboardand plan on reading every book by her in the future (as long as they’re clean)! I really enjoyed how clean it was; I give a 5/5 to this! For a YA book this was so refreshing not to find LGBTQ, foul language, and nothing above sweet non-descriptive kisses. Dear author, please continue to write them this way! And to all of yall who are reading my review.. PLEASE GO READ THIS BOOK! You won’t regret it!

⚠️Age recommendation: 15+
🌹Romance: up to sweet not really descriptive kissing
🤬Language: no cussing
Violence: not really any

POV: Savannah Moore
