FROM EXCITING ROMANCE AUTHOR ELLEN MINT Book eight in the Coven of Desire series
Here comes the apocalypse.
The first Horseman is threatening to destroy the world. Witch hunters are exterminating anyone who might stop Conquest. The hulking werewolf Eric is breathing down their necks. What can Layla do when the whole world's about to end? Plan her wedding!
Surprise, surprise— the coven boys are starting fights about her marrying Cal. Daniel's afraid he could be pushed out. Ink would never admit that he's worried she'll move beyond him. Garavel just wants to get away from the wet dog smell. As for the ex-witch hunter Raul, he declares the whole idea ludicrous. Witches are vanishing across the world and Conquest is definitely to blame, but no one knows yet how to stop him. Everyone expects Layla to put her life aside to save the world. All she wants is one day to be happy.
Worst of all, her mother is back in her life and already trying to control her. She tells Layla that witches do not fall in love, much less marry. It could kill both the witch and her lovers. After everything in her life, Layla refuses to give up the men who have saved her. The Coven will be tested as they fight for their place in both the relationship and the world. Every force is trying to pull Layla away from her guys, but she'll need them more than ever to survive the horror of planning a wedding in three months. Will the bride make it down the aisle before the world ends?
Ellen Mint adores the adorkable heroes who charm with their shy smiles and heroines that pack a punch. She recently won the Top Ten Handmaid's Challenge on Wattpad where hers was chosen by Margaret Atwood. Her books, Undercover Siren and Fever are available at Amazon as well as a short story in the Lucky Between The Sheets anthology. Married, she lives in Nebraska with her dog named after Granny Weatherwax. Her hobbies include gaming, painting, and halloween prop making. The basement is full of skeletons because they ran out of room in the closets.
Guess who's back, back from the dead, Daniel's back, tell a friend!!!! YAY DANIEL IS CORPOREAL FINALLY, DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I'VE BEEN WAITING TO SEE THAT??? MY WHOLE LIFE.
I love that his punk self can finally shine, I'm always campaigning for more alt characters. I feel like we're just getting to know the real him now that he's human again. And I'm gonna need him to write me a song too.
He got a lot of page time AS HE SHOULD!! Cal did too with the wedding and all, and we even got more of Raul which I'll never complain about. Garavel and Ink could've used a tiny bit more page time, but the latter had a valid excuse for being away so he's forgiven (and I could never be mad at Garavel of course).
The majority of the book was spent wedding planning and I felt that stress through the screen, it was as if I was planning my own wedding. The cake tasting let me know Garavel has the best pallete, because I too consider lemons abominations.
I saw the ending coming, though not before this book. It was mainly the emphasis Layla's mother put on the whole thing and I was like huh wouldn't it be funny if that happened, and then that wedding gift...and the final page...what terrific timing with the looming apocalypse, Layla and the guys can't catch a break.
But also, with that other event that happened in the end, it's kinda poetic. One light extinguishes another roars to life. I AM TRYING SO HARD TO BE VAGUE HERE, PLEASE READ THE BOOK SO I CAN TALK LIKE A NORMAL PERSON.
Speaking of endings, I'm not ready for the next book. I am but I'm not. I've been reading this series for as long as I've been reviewing books and I just want it to continue indefinitely. I can't say goodbye, I can't bear it.
Someone already said this, but I must echo the sentiment, PLEASE LET US GET THAT I LOVE YOU FROM INK IN THE FINAL BOOK I WILL NEVER ASK FOR ANYTHING AGAIN PLEASEEEEE I FEEL LIKE SCREAMING EVERY TIME HE COMES CLOSE BUT DOESN'T SAY IT, WHY DO YOU HURT ME LIKE THIS??? PLEASE.
If you've been on the fence about starting this series the best time to start it is now so we can suffer together as we wait for the next book. I promise you'll fall in love with Layla and her guys, they're all so unique, sweet and funny and in the case of one incubus a bit insane but we love him anyway.
P. S. Changing my mum's contact name from mothership to materfamilias!!
*Thank you to the author and StoryOrigin for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I can’t get enough of this series. Cal and Layla are getting married. Ink seems to be very preoccupied. Conquest is becoming stronger. The apocalypse is closer than anyone could imagine. Raul, the witch hunter turned elf, is fully in the picture. He isn’t trying to join the Coven but he and Layla have a job to do. Raul is trying to get to the witches before Conquest. Witches are the only thing the threatens Conquest’s goal.
What is Layla doing? Planning a wedding. The date is coming. Faster than anyone could imagine. Can the Coven make Layla’s day one of her dreams? Layla’s mother is back and trying to force Layla in the right direction. Her direction.
We meet new people. Lives are put in danger and readers will be on the edge. Will the Coven all make it out of this showdown with Conquest? Help is needed. Will it come in time? I don’t know about you, but I am not ready of this series to end. I don’t know if I ever will be. Ellen Mint knows how to keep readers interested. I, for one, am not going anywhere.
Lots going on in this book, but the main focus is Layla and Cal's pending nuptials and the chaos that that brings. It seems like each of these books has something that sets the big bad aside for a little bit to give the group a slight breather from White before he finally makes his move. I wouldn't say that this necessarily brought on less stress for them but it was certainly a change.
Even though I thought we saw less of the guys in this one, I really enjoyed the little scenes of bonding when they were all together. The bickering and jabs at each other have been getting exhausting and I am at a point where I'm wondering when they will all just cooperate and get along, to form bonds and get past all the negativity. I really really hope that whatever I saw near the end of this book sticks. I think they are getting on the right track and everyone's feelings have been brought to light. Even Ink seems to be more expressive with Layla. His moments with her in this book have been so sweet, so unlike how he was in the beginning of the series and you can truly tell that he considers Layla much more than a bond now.
This has been a long series, but by the end of this book, I think I am slowly seeing an end finally coming! I could be wrong, but with the other books there was always something that needed to be solved, something popping up with White and so on, but the events right before the cliffhanger and how we were left just feel like a point in time where Layla is going to want to push even harder. There's too much at stake, too much to live for, and White seems to be getting his ducks in a row to make his final move. There's still some stuff to fully figure out and I'm excited to see what the next book brings.
You would think Layla would be on Cloud 9 now that she used the correct spell to bring back amongst the living. What should have been a joyous moment became a non stop p*ssing contest between newly alive Daniel and our favorite Sexy and Snarky Incubus Ink.
Layla literally cannot catch a break. Trying to prepare for Clinicals, Trying to avoid the Witch Hunters, Trying to avoid the big Red Wolf Eric and Trying to stop the Horsemen Conquest from starting the Apocalypse; let's add planning a wedding in 90 days.
I'm so happy Layla found her forever with Calvin but I don't think she really thought about how this would affect the other men in her harem. Ink is extra snarky and a little distant, Daniel is basically a newborn in an adults body, Garavel is clueless as always and now Raul aka Agent Stone has joined the fray causing more tension and angst to an already testosterone fuel harem.
Regardless of the tension, anger, angst and vulnerability that Layla and her guys feel, they are always there to have each other's back. With Layla being pulled in so many directions it was difficult to keep the inevitable from happening. Through all of her good intentions and well meaning attempts to save mankind she realized that her best isn't good enough……she needs to be GREAT!!!
Now dealing with grief and heartache Layla knows that she has to step up and be the witch that all previous witches failed to be and she must accomplish the very thing they couldn't. Armed with powerful magic and a harem consisting of an Alpha Wolf, Incubus, Demi-Angel, Elf and her ghost turned human helping with research and planning; Layla has the support and encouragement she needs to do the impossible. Her guys have the utmost faith in her abilities. Now it's time for Layla to believe in herself. After all the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.
DAAAAAANIEEEEELLLLLL I'VE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS! God, he's finally here, and he's packing! Where has that been hiding all these books 👀 AND HIS MOUTH....Layla is a lucky woman.
All of their arguing and posturing for the first half of the book about drove me wild, I don't know how Layla puts up with it. It was really interesting, though, how the change in Daniel shifted the dynamics of the relationship. You wouldn't think it would since he's been around a while, but it really threw everything off balance, and her other four men had to flounder a bit to figure it out.
I was really glad to see Raul getting closer to everyone. The 'I hate how much I love you' about did me in. I literally melted at that; I have a huge soft spot for Raul. As much as I love all her guys, he's been my favourite since he was introduced. There's something about him, and it made me happy to see him more and acknowledging how good he and Layla can be.
AND THE WEDDING GIFT 🔥🔥 time to go up in flames. Her men should collaborate more often, good Lord. I didn't know I needed it until suddenly I really needed it. Everyone really embraced who they were and what they wanted, and I 100% will be needing more five guy spicy times! And I'm still waiting for that 'I love you' from Ink....where is it, Ellen???
Veil is bittersweet for me because I know it's close to the end. Things are really looking bad for Layla and while I really want to read the next one and see what happens, my heart is breaking because it'll be the end of a series that's come to be one of my favourites I've ever read.
All Layla wants to do is plan her wedding to Cal but larger problems keep cropping up: - She might have 5 rather than 4 men, if she can work out how she feels about Raul. - Along with her men there will be werewolves, witches and a djinn at the wedding - it's going to be a commotion & will they have everything ready with only three months to plan it? - Everyone needs help - Raul wants help with witches disappearing, Layla's mum is back and trying to 'persuade' Layla to do things her way, Conquest is getting stronger and Daniel just wants to finish his song for Leila.
Told from the POV of all members of Layla’s coven, I particularly liked the humour and rivelry between the men, despite their shared love for Layla which has them working together. It was particularly nice to have Daniel able to join the group fully, not just in spirit.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Veil is the penultimate book in this series and with how it ended, the last book is gonna be an incredible conclusion. In this one, we have Layla and Cal's wedding, which is quite the event, and all the prep that leads up to it. The gang is also still trying to stop Conquest and endures many attacks. Like usual in this series, the book is a great combination of action, revelations and steam. I am getting a little tired of all the bickering between all the guys. You'd think after all this time they would start to get along, but nope. Although that's really the only downside, everything else was great! Anyway, here's hoping for the next one!
This story should be labeled erotica with a twist. As the force of evil comes to tear apart the world, one witch thinks she can stop him. She has five different lovers, all living in the same house, all super naturals that really don't like each other. Layla plans to marry one of them. This has brought extra trouble to their doorstep, and saving the world may be harder than they think. I may have given a better review had I read the beginning of this series first. Maybe it would be better for me as a series rather than stand alone.
Layla is consumed with wedding plans and all the stress that comes along with that while on a short timeline. Conquest is pushed to the back burner but still stalking in the background. While the group is coming together there seems to be splits happening in regards to the wedding and vows with Cal and Layla until the bachelor party. An unexpected visitor brings nothing but trouble as they are revealed to be the secret traitor. Cal gets the wedding of his dreams but nothing good comes afterwards.
I have been in love with this series since picking up Ink out of simple curiosity. As the story has progressed the emotion, drama, intensity, fun, magic and romance have all just continued to get bigger and better. Unpredictable, sassy, steamy (🥵) and sweet, with a ever-growing collection of awesome men in Layla’s coven, it’s always a page turning, action filled read. I’m not ready for it to end with the next book (😭), but I guess I can just binge read it when that happens. No spoilers from me for this one - just read it, cause you know you want to.
I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. It is an engaging story full of intrigue, spicy scenes and twists and turns. A wedding between Cal and Layla turns into the first step of the end of the world. Layla and her men have their work cut out for them. However I really wish this book hadn't ended the way it did.
Another fabulous book in the series as Layla and Cal are planning their wedding and the Apocalypse is on the way Their so much great banter between the men and it was great to see Raul and Daniel fully back. Ink always makes me giggle. Poor Layla has to deal with so many problems including her mother. I can't get enough of this series with it's wonderfully written characters and plot twists.
Layla and her guys are wedding planning. Not only do they have the stress of that but life is still throwing curve balls their way. They cannot catch a break. I am loving all of the development especially in the guys and the relationship as a whole. Their story is packed with powerful emotions that are very well conveyed.
I just love this series. It gets better and better. Layla doesn't get a moments peace, there is always a big problem to solve. I just don't know how she manages to study. Great read!! Look forward to more.
Think I was a tad too late to the party , having not read any other books . It’s entertaining and a lot of background has gone before but doesn’t dissuade much. Good narratives. I read an advance copy of the book and leave my review voluntary
OMG! What is Layla going to do now. The world has been turned upside down. I could not put this book down. There seems to be no happy ending for Layla, even though she married her werewolf, Cal. All her other men are also trying to help her. All I want to know is what is going to happen next.
An exceptional addition to a great series. Love Layla and her guys. You feel like you have a favorite then things happen. Definitely a must and a read again.❤️❤️❤️📚👍
4 1/2 stars - I enjoyed reading this story that's about Layla and her adventures. I would recommend reading the previous books to better understand the characters (Her lovers and how she met them) and the plot better since I felt a tiny lost because I didn't. In this book Layla wants to marry Cal but the other lovers are feeling uneasy along with her mother warning her that "Witches don't fall in Love" without consequences. Layla's trying to reassure her lovers (the steamy parts), fixing Daniel, and setting up the wedding. Then a visitor arrives who causes trouble. Can Layla stop the upcoming disaster? The characters were likable, and the storyline was engaging to read. Overall, this was a well written story I enjoyed reading.
The apocalypse is coming, witches are being hunted and eliminated, Conquest is coming for Layla, and her mother is insisting that witches can't fall in love or have normal lives. They need to produce a daughter, then fade away. So what is Layla doing? Planning her wedding, of course! To Cal, the world's hunkiest werewolf. Ink, lust-personified, is sulking because he won't admit how much he's grown to --ahem, LOVE--the witch he's been bound to serve since the first book in the series. Layla performs the spell which allows for the ghostly Daniel to become corporeal, so he's wondering where he'll fit into her new life. The angelic Garavel is totally oblivious to everything, and Raul, the malevolent elf, wants Layla to stop pretending to be a normal human, and help him to find and save witches.
Will the wedding go off without being interrupted? Fat chance! Will Layla get a magical night with all of her men catering to her every desire? Since menage scenes are a specialty of Ms. Mint, hell yeah! Will the world end? Not quite yet. There are 2 more books in this series. One will be out September 10, 2024, and the last one November 5th, 2024. Will Layla get a HEA ending? I know I won't, once all of this excitement is over. I guess I'll just have to start with Ink and reread the entire series, when I'm missing my favorite dyslexic witch who doesn't have to pick which of her men to have steamy sex with, since they're all willing to share. Sigh...
