A visceral experience that will linger in your thoughts long after you've turned the last page, Come Full Circle is a heart-wrenching military and psychological thriller with Christian undertones that navigates the treacherous landscape of war while delving deep into a human psyche on a path to redemption.Written for mature audiences, this gripping narrative spares no detail in portraying the raw reality of the violence, abuse, and depravity of war.Set against the backdrop of Russia’s war with Ukraine, the story follows Vasiliy Morozov, the ruthless leader of a battalion known ominously as the Bleeding Hearts, as he employs a chilling array of atrocities – assassination, torture, rape, and public executions – to instill terror in the hearts of the Ukrainian populace. But when his battalion secures the town of Zarozhne, Morozov's malevolent path takes an unexpected turn.Stripped of his standing and forced to confront the consequences of his actions, Morozov is haunted by an enigmatic voice guiding him toward redemption – is it the town's priest, is it God, or is it his own, long-buried and denied conscience?Explore a symphony of terror, suspense, and transformation in Come Full Circle, where the line between villain and savior blurs in the most unexpected ways.
An engrossing, horrifying and yet hopeful story with a real-world depiction of war. On the field of battle, the Bleeding Hearts of the Russian army aren’t the ones who hold compassion. They’re the ones who destroy, indiscriminately. Destroy and desecrate or damage any one (of their enemies) who is left alive.
In the midst of such horror, there is still hope. And through the actions of a priest and a quite unbelievable turn of events, God moves. Changes. Redeems.
Not for the faint of heart but bitterly beautiful in its own way. The essence of humanity in the face of war perfectly distilled onto the pages.
Zayne Kulder's first novel is a non-stop, shocking tale of an evil, amoral Russian officer who lives for inflicting pain and suffering in the name of his country, but does so truly only for his own twisted pleasure--
Until the tables are turned on him. In a fascinating, deep look inward into his own dastardly deeds, the main character Vasiliy experiences and learns what it actually means to be a victim and, in being forced through the entire process, tries for redemption.
The story ties in with real-life, topical events currently happening in the War in Ukraine, and this, coupled with a writing style that keeps you on the edge of your seat, makes this story something I just couldn't put down. I highly recommend it!
Kulder walks a tightrope in this story where a human monster is guided to redemption by divine guidance. Our protagonist is a hardned Russian general leading a horde of marauding soldiers through the Ukraine—medieval rape, pillage and plunder—who finds himself on the receiving end of his own brutality. His only hope is to use everything he's learned in his rampages to do something good and heroic.
The danger in a story like this is "deus ex machina": The idea that God's going to save the day whenever the author gets himself into a tight corner. Kulder avoids this, primarily by focusing on the one thing that God "cannot" do: force a human to take the virtuous path. A quick, engrossing read!
I didn’t think I’d like this book as I am not into war stories, but once I got into it, I could not put it down! A harrowing tale that does not gloss over the atrocities of war, Come Full Circle captured my mind and did not let go.
I loved how the author gave a surprising twist and added a spiritual element as well. While some scenes were graphic and disturbing, they were necessary to give the book credible realism. While those scenes saddened me, the majority of the story kept me on the edge my seat with tons of action, great dialog and vibrant description.
Zayne is a gifted storyteller and an excellent writer. When I finished this book (in one sitting), all I could think was, “Wow.”
