Written by a cycling legend, this late 1980's book is a book that showcases the huge development the bikes we see on our road had vs. what former Grand Tour winners biked up mountains 30 years ago.
For me, the best part of the book is the stories Greg tells about his victories and what happens in cyclists heads throughout a Grand Tour stage.
As a cyclist fan, one only sees the strategies and the cyclist strength, never his thoughts.

BIKE WEENIE LEARNING THE ROPES? THE TITLE HERE SAYS IT ALL

Reading Greg LeMond's story - from his first race as a fifteen-year-old in 1975 to his second Tour De France victory in 1987 - makes you want to get out there and ride. LeMond still rides, you know. A friend recently participated in a benefit ride with Greg. Fans will be happy to learn, although he's picked up a few pounds over the years, LeMond still has a huge engine.

Included in this superior collaboration with fellow cyclist and writer Kent Gordis are extensive chapters on bike fit, training, diet, maintenance, and riding tips. These are techniques useful not only in racing but for everyday cyclists - road hazards, traffic issues, the proper gear to have along. It's all there.

I first read this book in 1992 when I began cycling at the age of 51. Even though the bikes are better now, and everyone can afford a HRM and software that will help you keep records of your workouts, the superior and detailed section on bike fit remains valid. Actually, nothing here is really outdated. It's still you, the bicycle, and the hill just ahead.

Cycling is hands down the best way to get yourself in shape. Read, and then go for it. On your left!

Art Tirrell is the author of "The Secret Ever Keeps", an underwater adventure set on Lake Ontario. "Simply put, the best underwater scenes I've ever read" - Meg W, reviewer. Art rides a 2003 Lemond Chambrey. See the full review at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1601...

I feel the same way about Greg Lemond as I do Kanye West... I think he is incredibly good at what he does, but his ego is just a big much for me. The book did have some good tips on training, especially as it pertains to racing, but unless you are a big Greg Lemond fan, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

For those with a serious interest in cycling, this is a great book to read. LeMond covers a wide range of topics, including cycling techniques, training, maintenance, and the history of bicycle racing. Having rooted for LeMond when he rode in the Tour de France, it was interesting to be able to get an idea of his thought process and work ethic.

This book was great. it had a good history of cycling section, it also had a cool Greg Lemond auto biography. All the training and racing info was cool to read too. He goes pretty deep into everything so i definitley picked up alot from this book.

Read this a while ago, but it was pretty cool as an overview of Greg's history, the Tour de France, and bike racing as a whole. Also there's stuff in here about diet, and bike riding in general, so in that sense it's not just for bike racing nerds.
