Pine Wood Falls #5

Pumpkin Patch Babies

Rate this book
Tanner O’Malley is a bit introverted when it comes to dating. He’s mainly worried about how guys will react when they find out he’s trans. But when he forces himself to go out for just one evening, he meets Corbin, a gorgeous football player who he ends up sleeping with.

Corbin Alvarez is sure the sexy redhead he picks up is an omega. Tanner insists he’s a beta even though they spend days going at it, but his original assumption is correct when he finds out Tanner is pregnant.

Corbin is over the moon they’re going to have a baby. Tanner, concerned for his safety, finds a place to go for the duration of his pregnancy and birth. The kicker is, he tells Corbin to stay at school and let him go.

But as the fall due date of the babies nears, Corbin can no longer stay away. He’s willing to risk everything for the man he loves.

*an Mpreg non-shifter romance with knotting, a hot ftm trans omega, a sexy college football player alpha, realistic mating and first-time love making, lots of appreciation for fall/autumn, and as to be expected from a Sarah Havan book, one heck of a birthing scene.
*can be read as a standalone

At first i thought this had everything. Tanner was just like me. i had finally found a good rep. Maybe that's why him being extremely selfish while parading it as being selfless-sacrificial hurt me so much. i hate selfish characters, esp ones who think they're self righteous for doing so.

♦He did Corbin dirty and my heart broke for him. tanner wouldn't even let Corbin call him. How hurtful must that be? Well i quickly found out that i strongly disliked tanner for how he's barring Corbin from his right to be near the growing babies.

♦Look, i get it. Transphobia is a very real issue. And i’m glad he could escape to a place that’s safe enough for him. BUT the main problem is, why punish Corbin for something that other people has done to him??? Who is tanner to dictate how Corbin should live his life? If Corbin doesn't have any say in his life then the opposite should also be true. This is being disingenuous beyond repair.

♦While it seems like he's doing this to "save" Corbin's sports career but in reality he's actually being selfish. Very selfish by denying Corbin the chance to see the pregnancy through when he wants nothing more than to be by Tanner's side. He's denying him the right to be near the babies when they're born.

He doesn’t even call him once ffs, not even 6 months in!!!!! And we all know Corbin does go meet him before that, but to keep him apart for that long… missing all the 1st ultrasounds (although tanner’s friend does call Corbin on his behalf to show him the usg process cuz the man himself would never call him🙄🙄) i think that’s pretty crass of him.

Six months in and he says this:
I blinked back tears, feeling remorse for excluding Corbin from so much.

It's a bit too late for that ya know?

♦After that i skimmed through tanner's povs in the story till Corbin’s showed up. So that means pretty much the majority of the 1st half book where it's his pov. i didn't want to dnf at first since i don't get to read about trans MCs so close to what.. You know what im saying? But i also didn't like his attitude towards Corbin and pushing him away.

♦So he knows what he's doing is awful. Ok i officially can't take this anymore:
“It’s not forever. Just until he finishes school and gets his career going,” I said softly, thinking maybe how I thought I was doing something good, and in reality, it might’ve been awful.

The sex was the one good thing about this book besides Corbin ofc. This is done in such a respectful way. You know the author must've done her research when writing. This was what a trans guy (not all, mind you) would experience. It was very realistic.

But man what a bummer story..

Wanted more

I loved the start with Corbin and Tanner getting together. The sex and making those babies were perfect. What I couldn't deal with was Tanner not wanting Corbin with him during the pregnancy. I get he had leave, but they should have come up with plan before the eighth month mark. I skimmed a lot of it because of this. Pine Wood Falls sounds nice but without Corbin there with Tanner I didn't like it and couldn't enjoy it. The ending was good with the babies coming and all but I'm not into full on labor scenes. Some might like that but had skim.

Loved the trans rep in this which why got three not two stars. It wasn't a bad book I just didn't enjoy. Wasn't a lot of Halloween either which was what thought be.

Sarah havan delivers again

If you are looking for a non-traditional omegaverse mpreg story, this is the author for you. Sarah has a way of towing the line of fiction and reality where you can't help but question, could this happen?
As always, it delivers with some of the best birthing scenes in the genre, Sarah doesn't shy away from the graphics, and you're in for a treat every time.
This, to me, was less angsty than previous Pine Wood Falls books, so ita good place to give the author a try if you are new to them.

Very much in the same vein as the previous books in this series.

There are some details of the progress of the pregnancy and a detailed childbirth scene, unlike those mpreg books which don't have these.

We see some of the characters from previous books.
