His to Claim by Piper Stone is Book 1 of Dark Wolves Series. This is the story of Kathleen Kelly and Maximillian Cordero 'Max'. Kathleen is a Detective who is out to find a serial killer that is said to be able to shift. Max too is out to find the person killing people. This leads them to working together but for Max who is a shifter too knows that Kelly is his mate. Enjoyed their story.

A nicely crafted story with world building characters and a fascinating storyline that captures your attention from the start and keeps you hooked and on the edge of your seat and turning the pages and guessing until the end. Everyone believes that it's a human committing the killings but she believes that it's a wolf. She received a tip and the third victim and went rogue to go and investigate it by herself in the park because her partner suddenly came down with food poisoning. Maximilian continues to stalk her and he followed her scent to the crime scene. He never knew about the killings until he followed her, he saw the wolf trying to kill her and shift into his wolf form to chase him, something that was against the rules in the Wolfen. The two fought and Kathleen was able to get away. He doesn't know if it was one of his own or a Nightwalker. He pray that it's not the Nightwalker because of the peace between them on the Wolfen, plus they're savage, monstrous and brutal and will do anything. But one thing he knows that he must stop him before he kill again.
His dad the chief told him that a war his coming and that ancient century curse is upon them and that he should take his place as a leader, because only him could defeat it and that Kathleen plays a valuable role in everything but must not turn her. After he saved her Captain Drake Walter called the ATF and asked that they lend him to the Denver police department to work the because he has expert knowledge and insight into the case. He is now teamed up with Kathleen on the assignment. Her partner Mark suddenly had requested and extended leave of absence for medical reasons so she was stuck with Max. As they work together investigating the murders more murder keeps occurring and they keep running into dead-end, and the more time that they were together they can't seems to keep their hands off each other. It was a passion that she has never felt before and she has never been drawn to someone as she did with Maximilian.
They were being use as a pawns in scheme, and killer wanted to take everything away from the Wolfen pack and hurt everyone using Kathleen as a pawn against Max. From the first moment that Kathleen meets her dad's right hand man Tyler Ridgefield she sense something off him and could see through him like the wolves. The bodies of murders were being strategically place to lead back the Wolfen in Roselake. As it turned out is murdered was Tyler Ridgefield from the Lycan pack, their pack was driven away centuries ago because of their brutal killing at Roselake. Tyler tricked his pack with lies and commitment a lot of murder so that he can be the new leader living at Roselake after he got rid of all the Wolfen's.
If Max had not changed Kathleen into one of them he would've lost his mate when Tyler kidnapped her. Because yet again she ran off lone wolf without backup and was snatched by Tyler. Max move back amongst his pack take on his responsibilities as the new alpha leader with passing of his dad Blackhawk and he and Kathleen got their HEA after a hard and long fight. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, one of my first shifter romance. The constant nail biting twists and turns and guessing had me on the edge until that beautiful HEA. Did Kathleen finally embrace Maximilian culture and join his pack living amongst the Wolfen? Did Maximilian, Stone, and Gregor finally forgive the past and become friends again maintaining the peace amongst the two pack? Did Maximilian welcome the new pack among their fold his Tyler deceived them and almost caused a world?

A wonderful, riveting start to this series that will hold you riveted from start to finish
This book is based around Detective Kathleen Kelly, a detective that is trying to stop a debased and vile individual that is a known serial killer that she has been told is able to change shape into an animal that has been attacking people uncontrollably which is terrifying in itself.
When she meets a police officer that is also on the same hunt as herself, she recognises there is a very strong and instant chemistry between them, it is a feeling she has never known before and kit leaves her feeling very wary and very much on high alert not trusting anyone around her.
Agent Maximillian Cordero has been chasing a fugitive that is immensely evil, he has killed numerous individuals and is a shifter. Max is a wolf shifter and recognises that Kathleen is his mate, he is supposed to have taken over after his father but prefers to protect people as an officer which has not been readily accepted.
The chemistry between him and Kathleen is immense and he feels that possibly with her at his side as his mate he would be able to lead and protect his tribe but first they have to see to the seriel killer that plagues them both.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Part of the Dark Wolves series hang on once you start you stop until the last pages have been turned. Max sexy as all get out AFT Special Agent wolfen good at his job currently chasing a fugitive that is immensely evil, he has killed numerous individuals and is a shifter. Max is a wolf shifter he was supposed to take over after his father leading the pack, but he chooses to protect people as an officer which isn’t accepted so much by his people. Kathleen a detective immersed in a case trying to stop a serial killer has no knowledge of shifters but knows that he can change into an animal attacking people killing them in the most gruesome way and when her partner takes a leave she is paired with an agent. Working together to stop the serial killer he understands this particular killer a little better because he himself is a shifter, but he can’t really tell her just yet and knowing she is his fated mate. But before they can get into any of that they first have to catch the serial killer despite the growing attraction between the two of them the harder they fight the magnetic pull the stronger the pull between them grows but also the killings are amping up but what happens when they realize someone is manipulating their case proving everything isn’t as it seems what will they do, will he be honest with her about who or what he really is, will they catch their serial killer, is there really a serial killer or just one shifter, and is there happiness in mist of all the violence?

3 Stars OK read
I liked the murder mystery storyline. It was different from your usual shifter book. I loved Max but had a hard time with Kathleen. Her character was inconsistent and hard, hard to like, and way too much of a hard @ssed. I like a strong female lead as much as the next reader, but she was over the top.
Her POV was inconsistent and flat. She continued to make half-baked decisions that a police detective would never even think about. It really irritated me, almost to the point I didn't finish the book.
But I had to finish to see what happened. So you have that.
Max, on the other hand, was swoon worthy, panty melting hot! I liked his POV. It was easy to follow, and you felt what he was feeling.
There were things that happened during the book that were never explained. For instance, her journey into becoming Wolfen. Even though you were led to believe that it was a major, major deal, it was mentioned briefly then, nothing.
My biggest complaint was the ending. It was rushed, had gaping holes, and then just ended. BAM Done! It left a lot unanswered, which doesn't appear to be carried over into the next book.
I don't think I'll be reading the next book in the series.

I read this in Feb 2020 under the title Carnal.
Maximillian Cordero is a Wolfen and ATF. He is on the hunt for an escaped felon. Kathleen Kelly is a Detective with DPD. There is a killer on the loose. But not any ordinary killer. This one tears its victims apart. She remembers the stories growing about Wolfen. Could it even be possible? When Max catches Kathy’s scent, he knows she is his mate. But the job is going to have to take precedence. They must find this killer and stop him. When you first read the story, you are thrust right in. I wasn’t sure whose point of view we were experiencing. Then it became clear. We are dealing with finding a killer and the mating fever that Max is going through. The heated encounter with Max and Kathy is hot. These two are both hardhead and driven but boy do they turn each other on. This is like angry sex and more. The story does tend to move slowly, so that can make it a bit annoying. But stick with it. It does pick up and we find out more about the Wolfen clan and Nightwalkers. I had a feeling about one person and then I ignored it. Nope, I was right. And Kathleen gets a shocker. I didn’t expect that part. We are leading into a crossroad. I wonder who will be next and will we still see Max and Kathleen hard at work.

This is very suspenseful book with lots of action packed crime and mystery all throughout the read! It’s not what I expected but I still enjoyed it nonetheless the two main characters are both detectives strong heads very stubborn too and so much more things I love! When dangerous Random murders show up nobody can figure the connections out it’s like a wild goose chase of finding answers. Plus learning who you can trust among so much more there’s betrayal crazy steamy scenes! I love the chemistry and the on and off feelings the two characters have they are something else. It’s kinda reminds me of enemies to lovers theme overall this a amazing exciting read that has you at the edge of your seat wanting answers it reminds of crime shows impossible to stop reading/watching till you get to the end. Wanting to know the bad guy the reasons behind it and so on I was shocked with how things went but really happy with it I for one was worried. Thank goodness it ended in a good way! They are so strong I love how when things are tough differences and grudges don’t matter:).

Max and Cathlene must work together to find a killer terrorizing their city. With secrets on both sides and a burning attraction to each other will they be successful or is tragedy on it's way. Werewolves, ancient curses, serial killers, soul mates, and the police makes for a fast pace story that will keep you on your toes.
I have read a lot of Piper's books. I had a harder time getting into this one. The connection between Max and Cathlene was lacking for me. I felt like Cathlene went from a strong law enforcement officer to wishy washy and whiny. I don't think that has anything to do with the dominance aspects of the book, but just her character. I liked Max, but I wanted to see more of him, more development to his character. I felt that the dialect between characters was too formal and stilled most of the time. The Language seemed more fitting to a different time period like the victoria era. I wanted to love this book, but ended up just thinking it was okay.

His to Claim is the first book of the Dark Wolves series. It is a steamy, paranormal shifter, fated mates, and dark romantic suspense. And it is a roller-coaster of a ride, so buckle up. Max is a dominant, hunky ATF agent who is also Wolfen (pack of Lycan wolf shifters). Kathleen is a sassy and fearless human police officer and Max's fated mate. Kathleen has been hunting for a serial killer. She ends up being paired with Max, who suspects the killer is a wolf. This story has so many plot twists that I was constantly surprised. The chemistry between these two was enough to burn down a village. But they are both so strong-willed and in this constant push and pull fighting each other. I was sweating the happy ending, but it finally came through. This was definitely a hot and steamy one with lots of domination, spankings, punishments, and kinky sex.

His to claim - Kathleen and Max strike sparks off each other from the beginning . But there's no time for more than quick trysts designed to fire their passion and ensnare her heart. A killer is on the loose. All clues point to a creature of lore, but there's no such thing as werewolves. Right?
Sensual, sexy, steamy, and sometimes downright dirty as I have come to appreciate in a Piper Stone tale. Not to mention the over-the-lap action and intrigue around the murder case. The villains were all a surprise, the mastermind vanquished in a few blows by Max's mighty paws. Kind of a letdown given the buildup to the big reveal, but a satisfying resolution nonetheless. I was more wrapped up in the case than the romance it was so good. Can't wait to read more.

I always liked Piper’s shifter stories and when I saw this book I realized it’s been quite awhile since I read one by her. Almost two years. So I quickly grabbed it without even reading what it was about. Fortunately it’s really good although I didn’t expect anything less. A bit of a twist, Max is an AFT agent who’s helping police officer Kathleen hunting a serial killer that he suspects is a shifter as well. While Max is an alpha hero with a capital A he’s actually a good guy. He actually cares about women and only avoids getting emotionally attached now because he’s been hurt more than once in the past. The chemistry between the two of them is instant, their connection undeniable and of course things get complicated. That’s what makes it fun. I enjoyed it and can’t wait for book two.

The book is so good from the beginning until the end.
His to Claim kept me entertained from the first page until the last. It shows how a Wolfen found his mate in a human. Maximillian was a special agent for the ATF while Kathleen was a detective trying to find the person killing innocent people. Her grandmother had spoken of wolfens but she really didn’t believe it. Max and Kathleen literally ran into each other in the coffee shop. Even when she was spitting insults, he felt the strong draw and his wolf said she was his mate. Kathleen fought him on every turn but she had to submit because she knew deep down they were destined to be together. This book was awesome and rather to start on the second one in the series. I highly recommend reading this book if you like reading paranormal.

When she is partnered with Max, a man she has clashed with before and is intensely attracted to, she discovers a world she never believed in and a conspiracy that is closer to home than she ever imagined. Both Max and Kathleen will have to work together and reveal their secrets to solve this case. Wow, this book had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. Full of drama, intrigue and suspense, this action-packed, very hot, dark and steamy read is everything you can expect from Piper Stone and more. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

Exciting New Series!
This was an enjoyable read. Aside from the very steamy alpha overtones of the book, which you can expect from the author, the story was quite good. It was suspenseful and quite fast paced. The characters, who both work in law enforcement were well matched and they seemed to compliment each other even though their attraction to each other is a battle. But when Max finds his mate, nothing, not even unsolved murders, will stop him from claiming her - except maybe the huge secret of who he really is. The author did a great job of laying the foundation for future books in this series. Great start.

Piper Stone has woven a fantasy word that draws you in right from the start.
I didn't put it down for one second once I picked it up.
Max and Kathleen had heat that jumped off the page. The scenes with them together were beyond sexy hot. And the action scenes were written so well I could easily picture them. The mystery and the twists in the book kept me guessing.
This is another phenomenal book by Piper and going to be a great series!
I will definitely be re-reading this one!

OMG! Wow, I am still hot and flustered from reading this book, the storyline was brilliant and the characters were captivating. This story was about Maximilian (Max) and Kathleen, Kathleen is an Officer of the law and Max is a Detective, this small town is genuinely quiet that is until the animalistick murders started. Kathleen's first interaction with Max was one of embarrassment yet she is so drawn to him, Max can smell her arousal she is his fated mate, he is scared to tell her the truth about who he is and what he is. The world-building which put me right in the middle of things, the storyline that pulled me in and kept me intrigued, the plot that ran through the entire story kept me in a state of anticipation, and then there's the characters. Both main and secondary characters will find a way to pull at your emotions and reactions. You won't even be consciously aware of it. The passion, emotion, and chemistry between Kathleen and Maximillian were just over the top, in your face, melt-worthy. There are so many stories yet to tell and so many small details I want to know. I really do hope this is the first of many from this world.

This enjoyable read is the first in a new series and as you would expect from Piper Stone has very steamy alpha overtones. The book is suspenseful, fast-paced, and flows well. Kathleen and Max, the main characters both work in law enforcement and form a connection even though they don't want to. But Max has a secret, one which will change her life forever.
The author did a good job laying the foundation for future books in this series as
both Max and Kathleen have to work together to solve this case. This book had me hooked from beginning to end, I didn't want to put it down. With so much drama, intrigue and suspense, this action-packed, very hot, dark and steamy read is everything I've come to expect from Piper Stone. I can't wait for the second book!

This was a very dark story but I enjoyed it. Kathleen Kelly and Maximillian Cordero are both law enforcement, Max is a special agent for the ATF and Kathleen is with the DPD and are both assigned to work the same case of what seems to be animal related murders. They are both extremely attracted to each other, in fact Kathleen is Max’s fated mate. There are lots of scenes where Max disciplines her all while trying to save the Wolfen. Secrets are revealed and these two very strong characters clash often, they have the chemistry to keep you invested in their story. Will they be successful in bringing the bad guy to justice?

He will do everything in his power to protect her, even from herself, including disciplining her.

Piper Stone is generally a 4 or 5 solid star author for me, but this was 3/1/2 stars from me. This book was a really rough start for me. I think it was the flow and the cadence of the book, but once I got through that, it was an OK read and I will read book 2 in this series. Max, an ATF agent and shifter, meets his mate by accident, but they soon become partners on an investigation. Kathleen, a human police detective, was assigned a string of horrific, brutal murders that seem to point to Max's pack. This book has sizzle, steam, action, drama, and more.

Kathleen is a police detective who has almost been caught by a strange creature in the forest. Max appears at the perfect moment to save her. He knows immediately that she is immensely important to him. He is an ATF agent and they are assigned as partners to investigate several horrific murders in the area. She is reluctant to work with him but has no choice. Plus there are lustful feelings between them. Max is a Wolfen but has neglected his destiny until he is forced to assume the role as leader of the pack in order to capture the murderer. Good characters and fast moving, interesting shory.

Max had met his mate at a coffeeshop and had learned that she was an officer assigned to the recent murders that have been pointing to his pack as responsible for them. Kathleen, can’t believe her boss had assigned Max, the ATF agent, to be her partner and even though they have chemistry together she knows he is hiding information from her. The characters were fine but the plot didn't connect for me. It took me a bit to grasp the plot. The book was ok.

I am normally all hoorahs and wahoos about Piper’s books (in fact I just reviewed one that was five star) however this one just did not pull me in and keep me engaged. I don’t normally read paranormal books but wolves will draw me to such sub-genre. It is a perfectly nice book and did have several smexy scenes however the story even though one I normally love (suspense) I was not enthralled. I am sure others will love this book. Maybe it was just the time I read the book. Will I read more of Piper’s stories? Definitely.

Romance & Murders 4 stars. - Very interesting contemporary world of shifters and the humans unaware of their existence. Max and Kathleen are mates thrown together to investigate these gruesome murders. The plot started out slow but started picking up halfway. There’s mystery, violence, action and steam. I had no guesses on who the killer was. Second half of the book has most of the action. I’ll be interested in reading Stone and Gregor’s story. I received an advanced copy and voluntarily chose to review it.

The novel is about a future pack leader and alpha wolf (Max) who finds his mate, a human (Kathleen). While they are both in law enforcement, Max demands compliance from Kathleen....and she is a spitfire cop who doesn't take direction from anyone:) There are triggering scenes that include spanking throughout the book (so if that isn't for you I would pass on this novel). If you love that type of kink you will love this book! The story also has a mystery plot as they try to discover who the murderer is that they are investigating.

In typical Piper Stone fashion this is another winning "hot & delicious" erotic romance story. Great characters and certainly as the warning states from Piper Stone on the synopsis it is not necessarily going to be everyone's liking due to certain components involved in her story telling. Dark wolves oh heck they are just too delicious and you will again be totally mesmerized by her dark and sensuous storytelling.
