5 Love Will Set You Free Stars ⭐

"He wears his sins on his sleeves and carries the burden of his actions through every decision he makes. Thinking the world is a better place without him."

Jagger Michaels was a young man when he entered prison for a crime he’ll never forgive himself for. Never expecting absolution, he’s not ready to re-enter society. In fact, he may never…

Emerson Lane is the epitome of goodness. Working for legal aid, she finds herself struggling to distance herself from the case which is Jagger Michaels. From their first interaction, she can’t ignore the emptiness in his eyes and the despair seeping from his pores.

Stuck in the past, Jagger refuses to move forward. But Emerson sees a man that deserves a second chance, a man that has spent the last decade in prison proving that he’s so much more. Setting his parole in motion, she provides Jagger the biggest token of motivation, hope.

In an attempt to remain professional, Emerson tries to keep Jagger at a distance, but the universe has other plans.

“You think I’m trying to save you?” She shakes her head. “You’ve got it all wrong. I’ve been trying to set you free.”

I recently discovered Marley Valentine and with each book I’ve read, I’m becoming a devout follower. Reclaim was a book of beauty. No bullshit melodrama or mind games, adults that discussed their issues and were passionate about the things that mattered. I flove second chance romances done well, and this was spot on. Jagger and Emerson were a real love story.

“People make mistakes, Jagger.” She whispers my name like a prayer.

She gives me strength, she offers me forgiveness, and delivers redemption. “You’re so much more than yours.”

So, this was a good read but I'm being slightly generous with the 4 stars, I'd put it at 3.5 stars rounded up.

0.5 stars for the "cheating" below. Look, I get it, the guy has been in prison without a female for 12 years. He's hot, he's built, he's sex on a stick, and even tho he was immediately attracted to the h (Em), he felt he wasn't good enough to have her, and prob never thought he'd see her again.

So he took up with the first ho that came his way and I get to read the first sex scene being his oral sex scene with the ho. While knowing all the time that he and Em are meant to be.

I get it, it's realistic. People do that all the time.

BUT.

As I've said in my reviews before, I want EPIC ROMANCE in my romance books! I want fiction! If I wanted to read about a guy who is flawed and decided to do above while the woman of his dreams was out there, I wouldn't be reading FICTION!

So, it kinda pissed me off. And you can argue it's not cheating, but to me it was sorta. So, not a fan of that scene that added ZERO value to the story.

0.5 stars off for typos, quite a few and I didn't read every word

0.5 stars off for being rushed. This should have been at least 300+ page book. But a lot of significant relationship development happened way too fast. I just felt it was rushed. Just when I feel like my emotions are getting engaged, everything happens too quickly for me to really dig in.

Like Jagger's sudden decision to break up. Then the sudden coming back together. Just really rushed.

OK, at the end of all that, 3 stars.

This could have been a great book. I even like the writing and the characters. But it just wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

Oh and BTW, the brother's book is the same way!!!

The entire prologue is about him having sex "for the first and last time" with the love of his 30 year old life since he was 15 yrs old! The mother of his brother's child! And this is NOT his true love BTW. So there's a WHOLE PROLOGUE of him having sex and his deep feelings for another woman!!

I don't want to read more.

These types of books are not for me.

Even tho, I WOULD have read the book if the whole detailed sex scene with ANOTHER WOMAN wasn't the entire prologue!

Arrrrgghhhhhhh!

This was my first read from a Marley Valentine and I LOVED it.

Jared the ex con meets Emerson the Legal Aid attorney. Sparks fly, moments are shared and then we get what could be my favourite goodbye kiss of all time. I legit melted into a puddle with a big happy/sad sigh

💚 She had a life before me, and I have a life after this. The kiss is a commemoration. An ode to the random, unexpected, and beautiful things that come into your life when you need them most.

Their paths do randomly cross again, but timing is still not their friend... plenty of angry fist shaking at the IPad while reading this story.

I loved the honesty Marley used when telling Jared's story. She didn't shy away from his past or from him making mistakes once he's released. Instead she gave a true account of a man genuinely trying to do better by his family. It's a raw and beautiful read.

When you eagerly await a book and from the Prologue your hooked and you hold your breath the whole way through never wanting it to end, that’s when you know you connected with a book.

Reclaim by Marley Valentine was exactly that book for me. I’ll start with the Characters both Emerson & Jagger they we’re perfect I fell instantly in love with them, Jagger was a perfect mix of Devastatingly Gorgeous, Bone Crushingly Lost and void of life but has a caring undercurrent that he keeps hidden because he believes he deserves the life that is set before him., he doesn’t like to hope on tomorrow.

Emerson meets Jagger under circumstances that are not ideal like Magnets these two have a magnetic current that has her wanting to go above and beyond to help him. She intrigues him but she’s out of his league. Emerson is responsible for a lot of positives for Jagger and the meeting with Dakota is one that will melt your heat.

What I find most endearing is the multiple relationships throughout Reclaim. Jagger-Hendrix, Jagger-Dakota, Dakota-Hendrix, Jagger-Sasha, Hendrix-Sasha, Emerson-Taylah, Jagger-Emerson & Emerson-Dakota. This book, the characters and the emotion Marley really nailed it all.

I loved it all, it has Angst, Heartbreak, a palpable Intenseness and a promise of tomorrow.
Congratulations Marley, on a fantastic book, I cannot get enough of these characters. Recommended read for me.

First, that cover is spot on with Jagger's story and that Prologue-had me sniffling and needing to know WTH happened.

Jagger's paid his debt yet he doesn't believe he deserves happiness because things will never be the same once he's back out. Emerson captured my heart because she honestly did everything within her means to make it easier for Jagger to have a second chance at life. And maybe the chemistry that they both had from the beginning helped her out.

To have dual POV was awesome because it helped me to understand what each one was thinking and let me say that Jagger, I wanted to smack some sense into that knucklehead of yours.

This was a second chance at life and love and it was unbelievably beautiful. Kara~ 4.5 Stars

Reclaim was such a beautiful story about making mistakes and redemption. Jagger was eighteen when he made a mistake that irrevocably changed his life. And after spending his time time in prison, he comes out a changed man. A man hoping to make things right.

Emerson sees the goodness in Jagger. And as she helps him navigate the 'new world' around him, they slowly fall in love, unable to fight off the attraction to each other.

I loved these two! Sparks flew whenever they were in the same room! And Marley's writing is just so vivid and beautiful!
I'm really looking forward to Drix's story! LOVED IT!!

[4,5*]

description

5 Stars! Oh how I loved this book!

Marley Valentine never disappoints. Her books are emotional and intense. Her characters are beautifully flawed and lovable.

Reclaim has all the feels. I was hooked from the first pages and stayed engaged until the end. This book was beautifully written and tells a poignant story of love, redemption and the determination to atone for mistakes. Jagger was such an amazing hero. The mistakes of his past are heavy in his heart. Despite the fact he paid the price for them with his freedom, Jagger feels he deserves to suffer even now, after he is released from prison. Fortunately he will meet a young woman who will force him to see what he doesn't. That he deserves a second chance to be happy. I really can't say more without spoiling this book for you. I promise you will hang on every word, every page. You will be rooting for Jagger to find love and peace.

Emerson was a special heroine. She was able to see inside to Jagger's heart and soul. He couldn't hide in his darkness when she was around. Emerson was his light.

There are a few bumps in the road to Jagger and Emerson's happily-ever-after. While Jagger is determined to not make any more mistakes, he will make a couple anyway. But thankfully he has his family and Emerson as the perfect, loving, support system he needs to help him see that he can have the life he wants. Because Jagger absolutely deserves it.

This book was amazing and I highly recommend it as a must read!
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

This is a beautiful story about a boy who makes some questionable choices and returns to his family a broken man.

Emerson is a Legal Aid Attorney who’s next case is Jared who’s soon to be released from prison. I liked Emerson, although she sees the good in people she’s not a preachy goody two shoes. There is a connection between them the lingering looks say what their words can’t.

I enjoyed this book, it’s about family, love and forgiveness. Watching Jared reclaim his life was very real, the struggles he faces are reality for so many.

Good quick read

This was an easy read with likeable characters. Sexy Jagger spent 12 years in prison and he is pretty hard on himself. Gorgeous Emerson meets with him to discuss his release and sparks fly. I enjoyed these two getting to know each other and the ex and daughter were an interesting addition. Well worth a read.

When I first read the blurb and a little snippet of this story, I knew I had to read it. I was hooked and couldn’t wait to devour it. Finally the day came and I was able to read it! I really enjoyed this story, and just like I predicted, I was hooked from the first page.

Jagger and Emerson have an undeniable connection to one another. I thought they were such great characters. While Jagger has the weight of his decisions on his shoulders, Emerson is passionate and does not judge Jagger, which is just what he needs. I did feel like I was waiting for something from the past to pop up and ruin things, which is the only reason why I didn’t give it 5 Stars. Other than that, this story was really enjoyable.

The secondary characters were great as well. Dakota is such a sweet, forgiving young lady. Taylah is so much fun, and Hendrix, well I can’t wait to read his upcoming story to see him find his own happy ever after. I liked how it captured the feelings that one would feel after being locked up for such a long time, the feeling of not being worth it, the feeling that you do not deserve anything because of past mistakes. It really gave me the feels and I really felt for Jagger. This emotional, and sweet story is actually my first read of Marley’s work, but after reading this I look forward to reading her released stories, as well as looking forward to future releases.

So incredibly sweet, yet at times heartbreaking. Reclaim is a story of overcoming the worst, love, and redemption. I flew through the pages rapidly devouring this book. Reclaim is one of those books that tugs at your heartstrings. Filled with lovable characters and an emotional journey you won’t be able to put this one down!

Both Jagger and Emerson are characters I absolutely adored. Jagger is truly selfless. Constantly putting everyone ahead of himself and willing to sacrifice anything for everyone he loves. His heart is huge hidden behind the walls he uses as a shield. While his story is complicated and heartbreaking it doesn’t take from the fact he’s genuinely a good man. Emerson sees the best in everyone. Going above and beyond her kindness knows no bounds. Together they make a couple that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

Emerson Lane is a Lawyer whose field of work is legal aid namely helping paroled prisoners adjust to life outside and making sure the transition is smooth along with working with the parole officer assigned. Emerson grew up with a family tradition of lawyers who specialise in property law and that was originally the field she was supposed to follow in; however, she soon realised it wasn’t for her much to her family’s disgust who felt it wouldn’t pay the bills and wasn’t worthwhile enough. She is a strong-willed lady with a heart of gold and on a mission to help those that have fallen on the wrong side of tracks.

Jagger Michaels is a  brooding man who has spent the past twelve years in a penitentiary and finds himself up for parole although he isn’t very keen. Whatever it is that got him wound up in, jail preys a heavy burden on his shoulders. He feels so much guilt and thinks he should still be serving time. He paints himself as worthless and not in the slightest good enough to be back in society with any forgiveness for what he did all those years ago.

“Can you do one thing for me please?”
“It’s a bit early to ask for favours isn’t it?”
“It's time to call your family Jagger, get ready to go home.”

There is an instant attraction between the two protagonists but given their positions, it is hopeless even thinking about it. The chemistry is very palpable and you get to know what each one is thinking with the story being told in dual point of view. Jagger has a brother called Hendrix and he is very different, but an interesting character and the dynamics of their relationship was refreshing considering they had spent so many years apart. Overall, the side characters were a great attribute to the story and while its mainly centred around the two main counterparts, the development and individuality kept me fully entertained. Emerson has a colleague called Taylah and she was very feisty and funny.  I should also mention two other additional characters called Dakota and Sasha although I don’t want to give away their connection to the story just be assured they were interesting. Dakota was a real sweetheart and I warmed to her instantly. Joe, Emerson and Taylah's colleague, I didn’t like him one bit. I had a bad feeling about him.

There is a total swoon worthy moment and my favourite line: I kiss her as if its my first kiss. I kiss her knowing its our last.

“So, why are we walking away from one another?”
“Its not our time.”
“Maybe in the next life?”
“You wont be able to keep me away.”

The moment I turned the cover to the prologue the words reeled me in. I wanted to know more and why. The author very cleverly makes you think you know what’s going to happen only to put a completely different spin on it. I hung onto every word and felt the pain of the transgressions of the male protagonist and the passion. There is every emotion going from sadness to laughter. I love the author's storytelling and the development of plot and characters. I have had to go in for a re-read as I couldn’t get this masterpiece off my mind. You know it’s a great book when you think about it long after the epilogue. Its already paved the way for Hendrix story and I look forward to it especially if we get a glimpse of all that played a part in Reclaim. Marley valentine is a great addition to the book world with her talented penmanship. I mustn’t forget to mention the Reclaim playlist on Spotify that I have had on constant play since I have read the book. The tracks are cleverly chosen to compliment the story. Bravo and congratulations Ms Valentine. A worthy five stars.

A truly sensational book so beautifully written. This was a reminder that not everyone is dealt the same cards in life. Decisions made through desperate circumstances can have life altering consequences for some young adults. Jagger was a broken soul living with that guilt.

Emerson was determined to turn that around for him. She had different opportunities afforded to her but chose a path to help the less fortunate. With some persuasion she made some headway leading him to a new life she was sure he was worthy of;

“He was like a vault, and the date was the key unlocking everything he’s kept dormant for so long. Wants. Needs. Desires.”

There are childhood friendships and a protective twin brother all brought into the mix all adding to this heart wrenching story. Loss and loneliness.

There is also hope and encouragement and remembered grandmotherly advice: “Your head and your heart aren’t enemies; they’re long lost lovers desperate to be reunited. You don’t have to choose between the two.”

Jagger has a family to reconnect with and new relationships to build. We have jealous work colleagues, new employment and a perfect reminder of our very fast changing world.

I really loved Jagger and Emersons story. You can’t help but feel for these two gorgeous characters pleading for them to get the HEA they deserve.

Reviewed on behalf of Endlessly Reading book blog.

From the very first page, this book will grab you by the heart and not let go, even after you have finished reading. It is a beautiful story about a man fighting his past, and to some extent his present, in order to secure a future and a family he isn’t even sure he deserves.

The connection between Jagger and Emerson is forged from the very first time they meet, and runs so deep that it scares them at times. The two are clearly meant for one another, but with Jagger’s circumstances being what they are, it is difficult for them to navigate the hurdles that are set in front of them (many of which come from Jagger himself).

Each separate relationship in the story has its own dynamic and its own difficulties. The secondary characters are written with a depth that you don’t see often, and they all play crucial parts in Jagger and Emerson’s journey.

Once again, Marley Valentine has penned an emotionally heartbreaking, yet uplifting, story that will have you devouring her words and wanting more.

A touching story of love and second chance at life! I absolutely loved this book. This book will suck you in the prologue. Jagger spends years of his life in prison and believes he deserved worse than he got. Emerson is a strong, yet insecure woman that has had a rough time with love. She is the perfect match for Jagger. The love between these two is heartwarming and yet sometimes heartbreaking. This Author is definitely a favorite of mine and I have read everything she has written and will continue to read her work. Her books have just the right amount of angst and she never over does the sex, though it is always hot, You can actually feel the love between these two. I can’t wait to read about Hendrix and whomever he connects with. I’m up for it being Sasha or Tay. If you have not read anything by this Author I suggest you do and soon.

If you have not read a book by this author you are definitely missing out!! Marley writes really good stories and will have you hooked in no time!
This story is very touching and a great second chance in life! I absolutely loved this book!! The prologue sucks you right in until the very end! I love the cover! It gets you thinking what the story will be about! Everything about this is just perfect!!

Jagger and Emerson

Emerson goes to see Jagger in prison. Emerson goes above and beyond to help him.

"Visiting inmates is always the perfect example of how quickly your life can change. One moment you're free, and then you're not. And being inside changes you, no matter what you did or why you did it."

This book needs to be given a chance! IT IS SO WORTH IT!!

From the moment I read the prologue I knew this book was going to have my emotions spiralling out of control throughout! Reclaim is about second chances and hard life lessons, love and family, and that our choices don't always define who we are. I absolutely loved Emerson and Jagger. Emerson's love for life and big heart outshines Jagger's flawed, rough views on himself. She wasn't trying to fix him, but prove to him his life had meaning and worth despite the past. Marley did such an amazing job developing these characters and story. I truly love everything she has written to date! It's evident in her writing how she grows more and more as an author with each book. I especially loved the secondary characters in Reclaim! They brought another dimension to the story and u can't wait to see what Marley has in store for them!!

Perfect instant love and second chance in life read.
I love Marley’s style of writing and I was so excited for this book! She delivers a sweet and emotional story that gives you all the feels.

Jagger is the ex-con and Emerson is his solicitor. They meet for the first time and the heat, chemistry and connection is all apparent.

Jagger is such an amazing character. Big heart, loving and protective. Smokin hot as well. It’s so easy to love him. Emerson, Loved her from the beginning. Strong, positive and puts others first. These two were perfect together. It was so easy to get swept up and lost in the sweet story. I definitely recommend this five star read that will leave you with a smile.
