The sixth book in the series & it could be read on its own but I love to star a series from the beginning so as ever I’d recommend reading from the start to get the best experience. A well written book with strong characters & a well paced story. A lovely mix of mystery, danger, suspense & of course romance. I really liked both Oliver & Claudia & loved how their relationship evolved, both had secrets which added to my enjoyment & I read this book in a couple of sittings

Shadows and secret identities. Oliver Wollstonecraft, also known at night as The Sentinel, helps those who are in need. But soon, he will be the one needing the saving. Claudia Ellingford is the newest member of the Galloway Investigative Agency, a job she is well suited for after having lived on the streets. But she too hides a secret past. When a criminal goes after both of them, they will have to learn to work together as the fire of passion gets stoked.

Karyn Gerrard always writes a very thorough and compelling story full of great characters and mystery that has you entertained right up to the last page. This too was a great story line, great characters (although lots of names floating around did add some confusion at times), and a mystery to solve. Add to that appearances by characters from the former novels of the series and you've got a great read. I really cannot recommend these books enough.

Protectors of the City . . .

Oliver Wollstonecraft, Viscount Tensbridge, works to help the less fortunate in both of the roles he plays. He makes laws to help the poor during his daytime job has a member of a parliamentary committee. At night, he becomes The Sentinel, a masked protector of the poor. Then one evening, he helps a strong, bold, and fiery woman, actually a female detective, and he is attracted to her.

Claudia Ellingford comes from a poor background and had been surviving on the streets for 10 years now. Hired by The Galway Investigative Agency because of her unique skillset, Claudia is excellent at her new job. Then she meets a masked man patrolling the London alleys. A deadly criminal is trying to identify The Sentinel’s identity and will try to discover it whatever way he can, even if he has to put Claudia in danger to draw him out. Will they turn the tables on him and capture him instead?

Extremely well written, full of action, steam, romance, intrigue, adventures, surprises, villains, history with lots of twists and turns. Oliver has a duel personality- a Lord and the Sentinel, the vigilante. Out at night to stop the villains in different areas of the rookeries and to help the good people and a Lord by day. He has to hire an agency to follow his brother , who seems to be going with a bad crowd. Claudia is the investigator that takes this case. She follows and tracks his movement and informs Oliver of his doings. Together they make a great team until they come upon the head criminal boss , who would like to kill the Sentinel and use Claudia as a lady of the night. Definitely a page turner. Great book to curl up and enjoy. Would strongly recommend.

This is book 6 in the series. It can be read as a standalone but it is good to have read the ones before. The characters where well written and the story flowed well. There was adventure, suspense and romance of course. It also gave a good look at the issues of being poor in regency London. All these books relate to the sadness and hardship that so many had to live. There was some very mild sex which for this reviewer was good. I enjoyed this book and it kept me tuning the page. I now wait for the next one in the series.

Excellent blend of mystery, intrigue, crime, love, passion and steam. Add the wonderful secondary characters from previous and future connected stories and you get one of the best reads ever.
