For seventeen years, the United Planets Space Force fought the Kenmiri Empire. They drove the alien overlords back from humanity’s borders into their own stars and found allies among the Kenmiri’s slaves and subjects.
Now, Henry Wong and the crew of the Raven must forge alliances with once-conquered worlds. They must reach out to the weak and protect the defenseless. But allies threaten to turn to enemies among the ashes of a fallen empire.
Glynn Stewart is the author of over 60 books, including Starship’s Mage, a bestselling science fiction and fantasy series where faster-than-light travel is possible–but only because of magic.
Writing managed to liberate Glynn from a bleak future as an accountant. With his personality and hope for a high-tech future intact, he lives in Southern Ontario with his partner, their cats, and an unstoppable writing habit.
A great story flung out over multiple star systems, species and books.
This instalment of Peacekeepers of SOL was the book for which I’d been hoping. This book contained a lot more personal interplay, machinations, and plotting than actual counting of megatons of starships.
Those things are important if you’re the admiral, I suppose, but as a fascinated bystander, I’m more interested in those other things.
Chock full of the things that make a book enjoyable … great characters, plotting on both the author and character levels, tight writing, and fantastic infrastructure (world building).
I could have done without the (repeated from last book) digression into why they had no beer aboard, this time at a page and a half. There is a lot of repetition of certain things, like why no one has to call the ambassador ‘ser,’ or why Henry trusts her enough to not have to knock before coming into his office. Some of that can be argued on a half of new readers, so I’ll let it go. It’s a great story flung out over multiple star systems, species and 10 books so far. I guess some room needs to be made for new readers!
Like Honor Harrington, Henry Wong seems to have the tendency to fall into interstellar military politics in turbulent times and come out covered with honors, despite a clearly and loudly expressed desire to avoid politics. Unlike Honor Harrington, Henry Wong has a spouse who is with him on board his flagship - civilians on a warship? yikes! - and has his political back. Still, he has even more political shenanigans to deal with as the cliff-hanger ending suggests. Perverse or not, I really want to see what he does to resolve yet another alien government's problems. Will Henry Wong end up with the title of Savior of Empires?
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
So good to catch up with Henry Wong, Sylvia Todorovich and their crew again, they work well together under the pen of Glynn Stewart, as their Starship and support ships, head out on an all costs attempt to support a friendly Nation far from their homeland, a violent force threatens the existence of the Londar collective.
Who are, the ”Enigma”, and what drives them to carve a wide path of destruction across the stars, destroying all in their way. So many questions and time is running out for Admiral Wong and his small fleet to get to the bottom of this event.
Well done Sir Glynn, solid story line as your characters once more, tackle the forces of the unknown. I enjoyed this chapter very much and look forward to the next one.
Admiral Henry Wong has come to help the alien Londu who were under attack from old enemies and an Enigma fleet with matching technology to his own, Now his Expeditionary Fleet races across the Wartorn Stars (ebook from Faolan's Pen Publishing) ro the Londu homeworld to save them. As usual Glynn Stewart has an exciting tale. He is one of my favorite authors.
Wartorn Stars continues directly after Raven's Flag. This series builds the story with each book. The Expeditionary Fleet follow the Engima's fleet toward Londu. What happens next is space battles and mysteries in the Wartorn Stars.
Good pace, good addition to series, waiting for the next one.
It took forever to release, but content maxed. Made for a very nice change of pace. Not just a repeat of other books and history. Not a good book to start in this series. Battle command segments w are more in line with practical command methodology, which was not always the case in this series. ENJOY
The plot and characters are great. Occasionally, he refers to a singular person or alien as "themselves," which is ludicrous and interrupts the story. Otherwise, I anxiously await the next book.
Mysteries unfold and clarify as Peacekeepers of Sol works its way through this new arc of books. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I went "uh oh" with stronger language.
An excellent addition to the Peacekeepers of Sol series. An interesting twist and a threat that will perhaps one day have to be considered by any sentient species who embraces the stars.
Wow this book is phenomenal. Going to Londol is boring part the exciting parts are the battles and Slyvia get the Admiral to bed and changed clothes the next book comes out in November with even more trouble for Wong and Fleet. Read this book . I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Beyond brilliant and in glad I went back to 'reread the series from the start. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. I loved all the different alien societies in this series. I look forward to the next one.
This series reads wonderfully of battles great and small. Interwoven with personal and interspecies relationships. Follow along as Admiral Wong leads the way for the United Planets Space Force.
Highly recommend this book! I could not put it down. From well fleshed out characters to a detailed and exciting story. The entire series has been a blast!
