On the island of Avalon, everyone has magical abilities.
Except Selena Pearce.
As if being the only nonmagical person on the island isn’t bad enough, her parents happen to be the king and queen of Avalon - and the most magical people alive.
She’s never felt like she fit in on Avalon, but that all changes when she leaves the island and meets Julian - a mesmerizing, mysterious human. Everything feels perfect between them at first... until he drags her through a portal to the enchanted realm of the fae, where Selena learns that there’s more to the mystery of why she doesn’t have magic than she ever imagined.
Long-buried secrets soon emerge, and she discovers that to escape the fae realm, she must compete in the annual Faerie Games - a televised reality show competition where half-bloods fight to the death.
To survive, she’ll have to make alliances, unravel the mysteries of her past, and figure out whether she can trust Julian. He wants to help her, and there’s no denying the connection between them. But Julian’s already betrayed her once. Why wouldn’t he do it again?

I think I would have liked it, had I liked any of the characters. Unfortunately, because I had no investment in... well, anything... this entire series was just long and tedious. Three entire books are a survivor meets The Hunger Games. Unfortunately, I did not connect with any main character and could care less with what happened to them, which made this series quite... boring.
If you love the characters, you will probably love this series, Unfortunately, I didn't like anyone.
I'm so glad it's done... and I won't be going to the best friends series that will no doubt spin off from this... if it hasn't already.
This was like Harry Potter, the Hunger Games, and Shadowhunters all rolled into one! So many twists and turns I rarely saw what was coming.
The books are well written with lovely characters you love or love to hate. The world Michele Madow has created is amazing and continues to expand the more you read and explore. I couldn’t put these down. Read all 800+ pages in less than a week! I didn’t even want to sleep so I could read what happened next. This is one of the most well written books I’ve read in the genre, on par with the big dogs. Your only regret starting it will be not being able to put it down!
I am sorry to say, this book series was really disappointing. I mean, what can you expect from a free book for kindle on Amazon? Not much. So I was really let down with this, even though my expectations were very low.
GENRES: I really enjoy most of the genres in this book, but this book just really over-whelmed me. There are so many spiralling ideas, so many that none of them are really explained enough. Vampires, Roman Mythology, gods, Faeries (which are very different then normally), Werewolve-shifter things, romance, zombie-apoclypse, dark-magic, mages, witches, Avalon (Aurthrien lore), Hell, Heaven, a place called Utopia (sorta like prehistoric wonder woman vibes) Prison Realms. I just couldn't take it all. So many things were unexplained. Its like Madow wanted to write ten different books but could only write one series, so she had to jam cram all her favourite genres in.
CHARACTERS: SELENA: I thought I was going to looooove hanging out with Selena Pearce. I thought wrong. Selena has too many writing faults to name right now. 1. She never notices anything. Selena is very bad at observing things. +SPOILER ALERT++ "Julian's wings were slightly dimmer, I assumed mine were too." SPOILER ALERT> In the first book a plauge is mentioned. It turns the fae into soulless incurable black winged zombies. Julians wings were dimming everyday for a very long stretch of the book. I instantly knew he had the plauge. They fought a horde of the "zombies" in the beginning of one book. I kept slapping my head while Selena didn't think of him having the plauge for even a moment. Finally, after sooo many pages she asked him if he did. (Which of course he did) I was so angry at her for being that stupid. Was Madow trying to keep it hidden that he had it? Was she trying to pull a J.K Rowling foreshadowing? Because she failed. 2. Selena is too overpowered. Selena has witch magic, fae magic, and Jupiter (Zeuz's) magic to call on thunder bolts. She obtains the Holy Wand and becomes the Queen of the Halfbloods and Queen of Wands. She has tri-colored wings, (Light blue, grey, and purple??) Her adoptive parents are the Earth Angel and the Prince Jacen, the rulers of Avalon. Her real father is a Prince Fae, and her mother was a witch (Camilla something.) At the start of the book she has no powers, at the end she has three. What is going on? She can kill a demon with the power of 40,000 afflicted Fae in less than ten minutes. I guess Selena could kill anything with her powers. It ruins her character so much. 3. She is over-sensitive When Julian has the plauge he distances himself from her. They are "Soulmates" (Or true loves). She gets all whiny and self-pitying when he doesn't kiss her every second. She gets all sad. She also has so much empathy it gets annoying. She feels bad for killing the dead zombies. The other characters are okay. Selena was really sad. I just couldn't enjoy her.
PLOT: What plot? Sorry, there is a plot, just a really hard one to follow. First Selena is disguised as her friend, Torrence, to see the world. (Or just Torrences home in LA). She is kidnapped by Julian. Brought to the Fae world, The OTHERWORLD. (Such a creative name.) Forced to play in the Faerie games. (A hunger games ripoff. Big Brother vibes.) Meanwhile Torrence is trying to save Selena, battling monsters, making deals with Circe, and falling in love with a jerk. While slowly being subdued to dark magic. The book ends at a horrible place. Cassia (a friend who died in the games.) is brought back to life by Proserpina/Persephone (Queen of the Underworld. Roman/Greek.) Torrence kills Circe and a whole lotta pig-men. She is sent to EMBER, a prison realm. She goes with her love Reed. (Which is the strangest love-arc ever. They hated each other.) The plot was messy. Messy, dirty, weird. She introduces characters from an upcoming book, probably for publicity. WHY> This series is not done. All five books could of been done in two books.
I enjoyed it, but it was too bad,. (Sorry my grammar sucks. I'm lazy)
I respect other people's opinions on this story, this is just mine.
This was such an original idea. A new twist on the hunger games profile.
The two threads fell oddly together, the friend on a quest looking for her while she found her soul mate in the games.
The first thing that struck me as I transitioned between ‘books’ was the endings and starts were not strong enough. It just felt like a chapter change and would have been better written as one book than six.
The second was mid book three when characters and games started happening off page including deaths. Was the author clearly grew bored of the games and only wanted to write questing stories. Changing both main threads to quests.
Book four I realised I really wasn’t enjoying the threads anymore when both turned to quests and then the random fae zombies as well. Too much in one book series.
Book five I gave up after the soul mate betrayal when I realised I just did not care why they betrayed the other.
If it had stayed games based and cut down the friend searching thread or had something other than zombies. It would have been a much better series.
This is my favorite so far in the series! It has everything you could want from a supernatural series! I love when Authors create a entire world to get lost in. As a avid reader it allows me to really connect to the characters and have continuous reading enjoyment for weeks. I loved the suspense of the fairy games but I wish how they ended would have left me more satisfied with the revenge Selena deserved after what Octavia did! Also felt unsatisfied with how prince Devon ended. I did love the journey of highs and lows I felt certain places where cut a little short. The romance seemed almost a little to easy. Having said that I would recommend this series and world to anyone and I can’t wait to read about the dragons! That’s what made me start this whole journey was bc I wanted to read about the dragons but I seen it was the last series in this world!! Again very smart for authors to write a world instead of just a series😉
My thoughts are all over the place with the Farie Games series. First of all you must read the books in the order that they were written. Each book (including book 5) has a cliff hanger ending. Once this series ends you then have to purchase the next series to get your questions answered (I stopped here. I refuse to go on).
Let's continue. In my opinion, this series is a mash up of Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, The Walking Dead and Beautiful Creatures. At times I found the heroine so annoying. She's stubborn, arrogant and just plain stupid. She's oblivious about how people are using her. I don't want to give away any spoilers. So I'll ends this. I read it for free, thank goodness. I would've been upset if I had paid for this.
I was torn about how to rate and review this series. On one hand, I did finish it and I am curious about the next series in this world (the Dragon Twins). On the other hand, there were times I wanted to quit reading it - it was way more violent than what I prefer to read. And it included zombies, which I never like, and generally avoid at all costs - in this case, since they appeared so far into the series, I had to skim over those scenes and references whenever they came up, just so that I could finish reading it. I guess I'll have to sit with this and process my feelings about the series, in general. I will update my review in time, should I come to feel differently than I do now. As it stands, though, I have to say that it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. Others who like more grittiness, graphic voilence, darkness, and (of course) zombies mixed with their magical fantasy reads will probably quite enjoy it.
Riveting, fun, the kind of read that keeps you pinned to the pages. Every time you think you have it figured out your quickly turned down another path. I can't wait to read more of the kind of the beautifully woven characters.
Interesting and e citing story you'll want to keep turning the pages for sure! The main character can be bratty at times but the supporting characters are exciting and the world building is amazing and vibrant!
When I grabbed this book, I triple checked for an age range on Amazon website and there was no age range. Yet the writing felt half teen, half smexy romance- I'm def confused on it. I finished it since I was so far into it, hoping it would get better for me. But it's not for me😭.
The storyline is like a mashup of TV shows, Big Brother, Walking Dead, & Hunger games with supernaturals. That may seem like an interesting premise but the writing seemed immature, not very well described, and not fleshed out.
The angst was overdone and drawn out so long, I no longer cared whether they made it, and that was B4 the betrayal. I couldn't stand the FMC, and she never grew. It felt like the author had started a book, got bored with it and changed tactics from the trials to searching for things (which was boring to me), then added filler for word count- which slogged the pace. I read it for the games but they didn't last very long. Furthermore, I read all that just to end on another cliffy 😭. I can't anymore, must part ways. Does not standalone, no HEA.
If I had to guess an age range I'd say this is more for 17-20 year olds. Others seemed to love the story in the reviews I read on Amazon B4 reading it myself, so maybe try the sample if you're unsure, it might be for you.
Read whatever makes you happy fellow book lovers! Then tell me about it lol.

A wonderful series that I couldn’t put down. Though it has aspects of “The Hunger Games”, it is a world unto itself. I am now a fan of Michelle Madow! The Fairy Games is the start of just one series of the Dark World. Though it can be read as a standalone series, it does refer to characters from other Dark World Series. I wish I had started with the Vampire and Angel series first, but enjoyed this series so much I don’t mind that I am reading out of timeline. You just get a few spoilers if you read these first.
The Fairy Games doesn’t just bring forth the Fae world, but so much more! It gives a new perspective on magic, history and myths. I can’t wait to delve further into the Dark World!
This is for sure a hodgepodge of mythology. Rarely is this type of mix in myths and legends done well or cohesive. Michelle pulled it off fairly well. This has a Hunger Games meets Odyssey, Midsummer’s Night Dream, Camelot, Dracula, Werewolf of London and Sabrina. Selena and Julian have a tough road ahead of them. First they are pitted against each other to kill the other. Them Then the elements and quest they embark upon try to destroy them. Then a demon try to murder them, and finally a plague is designed to end their story. That’s just what is actively trying to cut their story short. There are much bigger problems and challenges that they have to solve. In the end, their story is not finished. They are part of a much bigger tale.
This is the third series in the dark world collection. I have read every book in this collection up until now. There are more books in the collection and I am continuing, every book I have read has made the story get better and better. I will say it is best to read the books in order starting with vampire wish or you will get lost as they do continue even though new characters are added and the main character changes. They are all connected to each other. The Faerie games where hell on Selena but in the end it all made sense. She became the queen of wands and set out to help all her people just like a queen should
I finished this series so quickly having followed the other arcs almost back to back at this point! This series has a total magical “Hunger Games” vibe if you will- although the setting is in somewhat more comfortable arena! As per usual I enjoy watching the store connect from one arc to another written about a different faction of paranormals each time. Michelle is not afraid to eliminate characters if needed and this particular series is filled with many surprises along the way. The author has an amazing way of keeping the character engaged with the story by not spending too much time on one character although she leaves you wanting to know what is going to happen!
I'm not a very fast reader generally speaking and I don't generally have a lot of free time but I just had to know what happened next! Normally a series of this size would have taken me at minimum a month to finish and I did it in just over a week! Totally must read! However I discovered after finishing the series that it is the 3rd set in overlapping/ connected series!!! Don't read it out of order it will make so much more sense in order! Needless to say I have a brand new favorite author!
This was a great read. It really brings forth many emotions at every turn of the page.
I was glad we were able to see different points of view so we knew what some others were doing and how they got to certain points.
I am glad that this was a while set and didn't have to wait or look for the next novel in the series, however it leaves it in such a cliff hangar and says the next novel set will be of Torrance but what of what happens in overwhelm next is another thing I want to know about.
I have really enjoyed this series but I didn’t like the ending of the fifth and final book in the series. I’m not sure if these tie in to another series (I can’t find anything mentioning their names) but it has left questions unanswered. I thought the narration on audible was good and the fact all 5 books come in one series therefore only one of my credits was a huge bonus. This is the first book/series I’ve read by this author but will check out some more and hopefully figure out if there are any others which continue their story.
This was a really good series. Since The Faerie Games is the 3rd series in the Dark World universe, and I enjoyed this series so much, I'm going to go back to the beginning to read The Vampire Wish series, followed by The Angel Trials, both of which preced this series. So while I highly recommend this series, I think it is worth reading them in order. Michelle, keep writing, we are reading and always want more!
I have mixed feelings about this series. My first thought is that it felt like 2 different series. The first 3 books were basically the faerie version of the Hunger Games, which I was there for. Then the last 2 books were like a completely different series with 5 major storylines. It was just all over the place. While I enjoyed the first 3 books, the last 2 were a major disappointment. I don't think I'll read any of the other series in this universe.
I really enjoyed reading this series. So many wonderful and fun characters. With Selena and her soulmate Julian together they show what love is all about and taking care of each other in every way imaginable. This is an interesting way of Selena not having any power of her own to ending up as the most powerful leader of all. So I hope everyone will read this series and have as much fun as I did.
When I started to read this serise I was not impressed with the way the story was going however I decided to stick with it and give it a chance, I'm glad I did as the story developed into a very interesting and engrossing read. I came to care about the characters and how their lives developed, its was a very good read and I hope that at some stage, Michelle decides to give more on how the characters lives play out.
Too confusing . Too many people, characters, places, scenes, powers, craziness that readers can't keep track or less keep up. Less remember from each chapter.. I was going to stop along time ago but tried to keep going and thought it would come together but it got worse and more crap. Wow. Chaos. I like drama books but stories honey not life of catching up with what your trying to t ell. Sorry I didn't get it.
This great series tells the story of Selena and Julian and how they both entered the Faerie Games (although unwillingly for Selena) with the promise of freedom and faerie powers as the grand prize. The problem is that it is fight to the death where there can only be one winner out of all the entrants and that is the one still living.
Love that they can be downloaded in sets for easier tracking of where you are in the series
HATE that GOODREADS only classes each set as one book, it isn't it's five or six, they need to look into this, unfair on us for our book challenge and definitely unfair on the authors that are only being credited once .
The book has good settings, strong characters, flows easily, but I wouldn't let my dog read it. They should have chosen smut for the genre. I couldn't even read half of it. So if you're reading this book because it's for young adults, OK yes it has teenagers in it but on a very hormonal level. I'm sorry I can't recommend it.
Well told and written Story. Would also suit teenagers. Contains some Romance, some violence, no sex scenes, and no course language. The narrator does a good job, giving each character their own unique voice. I suggest to listen to the sample before getting it. I enjoy the story. I would have like the story to keep on going. I love the characters and the story line of the story.
I was struggling to read bc of mental health issues and ever since I started the dark World Series I have done nothing but work and read. I even took breaks and snuck in some pages. I’m so addicted and the ending… we’d better come back to Selena and Torrence and an ending to the demons!
This series set me off on my Michelle Madow rabbit hole. I am a sucker for a good YA, and this delivered and then some. Her writing style is captivating, and I find all her books to be a page turner. This specific story had me flying through the entire series in just a few days. If you like fantasy, fate, and games this is the book for you.
really enjoyed the series! it's an exciting mix of fantasy, supernatural, adventure, romance, drama, mystery, suspense and humor. i laughed, i cried, and i cheered.
