Brook:

I might be down on my luck, but I’m determined to open the best all-inclusive wedding venue in the U.S. But first, I have to scope out the competition. The only problem is I need a fake fiance to pull it off. Even worse, the only man available to do the job is the annoying handsome Landry Hendricks. Because of course I need the help of the one man in town who hates me.

Landry:

Oh, I only wish I hated Brook. Instead, I’ve been head over heels for Brook since the first time I rescued her. And the second. This girl has some seriously bad luck. But how can a gruff, loner like me ever hope to win the heart of a smart, sassy city girl like Brook? By offering her a bargain she can’t refuse… and making her think it’s all her idea, that’s how.

Brook (h) moves to Saddle Creek to restart her life after a wildfire destroys her vineyard. While staying with her half-sister, Natalie, she meets the rugged and charming Landry (H) who keeps coming to her rescue - watch out for squirrels and heels. Brook and Landry's back and forth adds to the sexual tension between the two. Despite her initial reluctance, Brook finds herself drawn to Landry's humor and innuendo, even as he playfully teases her about his piercings and flirts with a touch of arrogance. The two end up sharing a bedroom when they go to reconnoiter a business similar to the one Brook and Natalie hope to open and things heat up between the two as they get to know one another. Loved Landry's teasing and sexy demeanor that gradually break down Brook's defenses, leading to a steamy connection. Hot and steamy instalove, curvy girl, mountain man romance with so many laughs and sweet moments.

OMG!!! WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

A week later and Landry can't stop thinking about Brook when he's headed to his buddy Linc's The Grumpy Recluse's Wager house for poker night. Landry sees Brook standing in the driveway and then she's gone. Landry gets out and finds Brook on the ground. Brook asks Landry if he's stalking her, then he lifts her and carries her inside. Brook wants to know why Landry is at her sister's house, then he asks her what her name is. Landry tells Brook he needs to be around so that he can rescue her. After all the guys arrives Brook's sister Natalie introduces her to all of them. When the guys head back to play cards Linc tell them he needs to asks them for a favor, but he can't asks Cain The Grouchy Lumberjack's Bride since he's married. So between Landry and his brother Greyson The Growly Outcast's Promise one of them has to go with Brook and pretend they are getting married. Landry tells Brook that he learned early in life that he could compensate for some of his shortcomings at school if he was charming. Landry tells Brook he was diagnosed in middle school with severe dyslexia and ADHD. When it's time for the last bit of cake they both feed it to one another. When Brook gets chocolate smeared on her fingers, Landry grabs her hand and licks her fingers. When Landry feeds Brook her cake she moans, he stand to adjust himself. Brook asks him if he has a problem, Landry tells her it's the same one he's had since they met. Brook asks him if he say that to all the girls and Landry tells her no just the one wearing his mother's ring. Brook grabs Landry and tugs him to the door, when they're outside she wraps her around around him and pull him in then tell him she wants him. Landry pick up Brook piggyback and they head back to their room. Landry tells Brook he loves her, but she tells him it's too soon for him to love her. Landry asks Brook who says it's too soon for him to love her. Landry tells Brook that he does love her and he's not going anywhere when she's ready to admit to herself that she loves him, he'll be right there. The rest of the weekend flies by, they go to events then head back to their room and have sex. When they get back to the airport they're on the same flight back home, when Landry's phone buzzes with a message, Brook looks at it. Landry tells Brook he doesn't have any secrets she can look at his messages. Brook watches as Landry messages his brother Greyson back. Then she asks him why he was convinced he loved her before he knew her. Landry tells her that one word out of her mouth and he knew, she's his former. Landry tells Brook he'll wait for forever. Brook tells Landry she doesn't want to wait any longer, then tells him to make it official. Landry asks Brook if she'll marry him and she tells him yes she will. A few months later, Landry wants to get Brook pregnant, but she has a surprise she's already pregnant. Brook is Landry's perfect match, his everything.

Landry and Brook. She owned a vineyard in the panhandle but mother nature had other ideas and it was all lost in a fire. So she decides to relocate to where her sister is living in Saddle Creek and ends up sharing a temporary room with a baby goat. While driving on the mountain road she swerves to miss a squirrel and hydroplanes and then she's stuck and cant get out so she screams and slams her steering wheel. Then a man knocks on her wheel and she screams again. LOL. He smirks and asks do you want to browbeat your car into submission or do you want my help. After a lot of banter back and forth he says will pull her out of the mud. Yes please and then blurts out are your nipples pierced? ((its raining and like a wet tshirt contest)) Yes and that's not all that's pierced darlin. After he pulls her out he tells her not to swerve to miss anymore squirrels or any other animals and walks away. She cant take her eyes off his wranglers ands he says over his shoulder take a picture it last longer. Ughhh hes so arrogant. He looks for her on the same road everyday because he cant get her out of his mind. Then when he loses all hope hes on his way to his friends Lincs place for their weekly poker game and he sees her and then she's gone WTH. When he goes over there and sees her on the ground dress over her head. He smirks and says your just an accident on two legs aren't ya darlin? Evidently you need someone around to save you when time calls for it. Why are you here. I was invited. No you werent this is my sisters house. Well this is my friend Lincs house before your sister. More banter. Her ankles hurt so he carries her to the house and knocks and when Linc comes to the door he says is this yours I found her rolling around in your yard. She gives him a drop dead glare and he puts her down on the couch and says ice it and keep off it a day or two. She says what are you a DR. No darlin just copping a feel. Really Really loved this story its so full of these bantering quips back and forth you just had to laugh and feel good.

As a fan of small-town romance and enemies-to-lovers tropes, I was immediately drawn to the premise of The Gruff Loner's Bargain. Kat Baxter's novella did not disappoint, delivering a captivating story that had me hooked from the very first page.

The dynamic between the two main characters, Brook and Landry, is the heart of this book. Baxter skillfully crafts their relationship, taking us on a journey from bitter rivals to reluctant partners and, ultimately, to something much deeper. The chemistry between them is palpable, and I found myself eagerly anticipating their next interaction, wondering how their walls would slowly come down.

What I particularly enjoyed was the depth of the character development. Brook and Landry are complex individuals, each with their own baggage and motivations. As the story progresses, we get to peel back the layers and truly understand what drives them, making their journey all the more compelling.

The small-town setting of Saddle Creek adds a wonderful sense of charm and community to the narrative. Baxter's vivid descriptions immersed me in the local atmosphere, and I couldn't help but feel invested in the lives of the supporting characters as well.

While this book is part of a series, it can be easily enjoyed as a standalone. The author provides just the right amount of context, allowing new readers to dive in without feeling lost.

Overall, The Gruff Loner's Bargain is a delightful and heartwarming romance that ticks all the boxes for me. Kat Baxter's writing is engaging, the characters are compelling, and the story is a true page-turner. I highly recommend this novella to anyone who loves a good small-town romance with a touch of humor and a whole lot of heart.

All I have to say is I need a Landry!!!!

“This weekend can be anything you want it to be, Manhattan. We can keep pretending... “Or?” she asks, the word breathless. “Or, you can let me peel this suit off your gorgeous body and show you how a real man appreciates your curves.”
(🔥🥵🫠❤️)

The Gruff Loner's Bargain is Book 3 of The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, fake relationship one bed, forced-proximity, curvy girl gets her mountain man romance. Brook is the smart, sassy, feisty, and curvy sister of Natalie (Book 1 in the series). She's recently moved to Saddle Creek after losing her vineyard to a fire. Landry is a burly, hunky, pierced, cocky, and charming mountain man. He keeps rescuing Brook when she finds herself in trouble and immediately falls for her curves and sass. Brook and Natalie are hoping to open a wedding venue. When Natalie and her husband are unable to check out a location, she asks Brook to go. But she needs a fiancé and Landry is only too happy to assist. The chemistry between these two is panty-melting hot and the flirty and snarky banter, absolutely hysterical. When the two just finally give in, we get the most amazing HEA. I just loved this book so much. Landry is my new book boyfriend and ranks up there with Remy and Bram, my other two favorite Kat Baxter heartthrobs. I can't wait for Greyson's book next!!.

Not sure why Kat tagged Landry as a gruff loner, in fact he seemed anything but, always cracking sarcastic jokes and he had friends that he regularly played poker with, so hardly a loner. Not to mention the construction company he ran with his brother. Brook is new to Saddle Creek and starting over after losing everything in a wildfire, so she’s understandably a bit prickly. They start to push each other’s buttons as soon as they meet, and Brook always seems to be in trouble whenever Landry’s around. So, when Brook needs a fake boyfriend for the weekend, Landry is front and center. I loved their bickering back and forth, like when Brook tried to explain the importance of having a backstory about how they met. Interestingly, Brook mentioned how Landry was “always on”, using his effortless humor to disarm people and help them feel comfortable, so I liked how he relaxed around Brook to show a sexier, more intimate side. Understandably, due to its length the romance has to come thick and fast, but I thought Brook and Landry were a perfect match and the weekend at a wedding venue/resort was a great way to break the ice!

Brook is on her way to her sister's. Her vineyard was caught in a wildfire and everything was lost. She notices a squirrel run into the road and slams on the brakes. She goes into the ditch. She screams to release rage. Then screams again when there's a knock on her window.
Landry is helping a beautiful woman with her car issues. He is taken with her looks and sass. He keeps an eye out over the week hoping to spy her car. Then as he's headed to his friend's Linc home he sees her at the end of the driveway. He parks and gets out and she's gone. Was he halucinating? When walks over to where he saw her she's on the ground. She fell and sprain her ankle. So he carries her in. And finds out he is Linc's sister in law. To make matters even more intense, Brook is talked into going to a wedding planning event to get ideas for what she and her sister hope to build. Landry tells his brother that he will going with her to the event.
So now here they are in a room and one bed. How are they going to handle the entire weekend? How will handle her attraction (?) to him??
This is a cute sometimes funny story of two people fighting their feelings..well one maybe the other is ready to embrace it.

If Brook didn't have bad luck she'd have no luck at all. Her plan was to open an all exclusive wedding venue but the vineyard caught in fire. Then driving to her sisters house her car got stuck in the mud by trying to avoid hitting a squirrel. Then a handsome man stopped to help her. She was going to let him know he was handsome. They bantered back and forth. Then a few days later.
Landry goes to his best friends house to play cards only to find the girl he's been looking for the past few days.
Brook trips and falls and Landry just happens to be right there to carry her up to the house.
Then he volunteers to be her fake date to the wedding venue to get ideas. Brook isn't thrilled on the outside but on the inside she;s loving the fact he will be her fake fiance for the weekend.
Brook thought things were going to be bad but things were so good, that they end up really being engaged. One bad mishap brought her to town and ends up staying and marrying the man that first got on her nerves.

Brook is still coming to terms with the loss by fire of her vineyard, and she’d moved to a small town with her pregnant sister and her fiancé. She ends up with her car stuck in the mud when she swerves to avoid a squirrel. Landry is the bearded, dead sexy mountain of muscle who pulls her out of the ditch. He’s also good friends with her soon to be brother in law, and he keeps coming to her rescue when she suffers mishaps.

Ok bed rest and unable to travel, her sister asks Brooklyn to stand in as the prospective bride - with Landry posing as the adoring groom to be on a tour of an exclusive wedding venue.

Playacting as a devoted couple becomes real when Landry decides Brook is the one for him. Having been burned in the past by a crummy boyfriend, will she give him a chance or push him away.

This was a very short confection of a lighthearted instalove novella with lots of steam and fun banter between the MCs.

I received an advance reader copy from the author and booksprout, and I’m pleased to leave my honest review.

Brook lost her vineyard to a wildfire, but she has her insurance and so she moves to Saddle Creek where her half sister, Natalie lives with Linc. Brook is short for Brooklyn and as she is on her way to Nat’s place, she has an incident with her car due to swerving to save the life of a squirrel. Landry, Linc’s bestie, ends up saving her and their snark at each other is hilarious. On another occasion he saves her again, lol, and since Nat’s pregnancy is complicated and a bit dangerous, Landry and Brook go to a venue for about-to-be-wed couples. Brook and Landry are hilarious in this setting and since we all know from the beginning that they have the hots for each other, we just wait for it. Lol. I also can’t help laughing at Cain being called the Shirtless Lumbersnack. Lol. That still makes me laugh for a day on and off. The one thing I love most about this series is that the author makes up new compound words.. THAT ARE HILARIOUS! Lol.

I can’t wait for the next book. Saddle Creek is one of my fave places to read about.

Brook and Landry land themselves in a fake fiance relationship for a weekend at a wedding resort in the Smokey Mountains. But there is nothing fake about their chemistry. I loved their meet-cute - both of them. I love how they magically fell into this situation and how the come together so naturally. I think the best paragraph in the book is this one:

I remember something I heard recently on a podcast about how you can’t force chemistry. People either have it or they don’t. You can change attraction based on a person’s personality. They either become more attractive or less, depending on their behavior. But chemistry is just that—it’s chemical.

This sums up their relationship and the book in a few short sentences. I also loved being back in Saddle Creek again for the setting of this book (at least the beginning). It just sounds like the perfect town and I wish it were real so that I could visit. Oh well, guess I just have to wait until the next book to get my fix.

This book was full of everything your gonna want right now. Humor, plot, satire, sarcasm, and white hot steamy vibes that might make you wanna put on sunscreen!!

Brook has come to town to spend some time with her sister. She didn't expect to break down on the side of the road.....nor meet the hottest guy she's ever met. Landry can't look away once he stops to help Brook tow her car out and see her fiesty attitude.

These two are like a baking soda and vinegar that ignites QUITE the volcano. They come together in a haze that makes you wanna wipe your screen as your read. What had me double taking and re-reading.....the humor. The banter between these two is amazing!! It's witty, funny and so true sometimes.

When Landry finds out Brook needs a fake finance, he's all in. Even when he's hot brother who gets all the attention offers, he shoves him off and tells him he's taking the job...end of!!

Read at these two bicker, built sexual tension and watch it snap like a rubber band. Your welcome for the recommend....and to Kat for KILLING it!!

The Gruff Loner's Bargain is a standalone novella by Kat Baxter. It is book three of The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series, and while these are standalone books, this is such a fun series you might as well read them all, in my opinion. And I always am amused to see the references to the Lumbersnack (I believe that was book one of the series). This book covers plenty of tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, unrequited love, small town, mountain man.

The story follows Brook and Landry. We've met both characters, albeit briefly, in Brook's sister's story. They really aren't enemies, and Landry is the first to admit that he has already fallen for Brook. However, Brook has had a rough time of things and isn't ready to move on after Landry saves her twice. When she and Landry are forced together for a weekend, it seems that Landry has his chance to show Brook the depth of his feeling.

Kat has hit it out of the park again. The Gruff Loners Bargain is another hit, following Brook and Landry they're set up as fake fiancés and sent to wedding venue to gain inside knowledge on what makes it work.
Brook and Natalie (The Grumpy Recluses Wager) are half sisters and wanting to make the number one go to wedding venue themselves, but when Natalie is put effectively on bedrest, Brook and Landry become the back up plan.
Both have already met though when Landry saves Brook from being stranded on the side of the road courtesy of a squirrel.
Landry is charismatic, mountain man handsome, alpha and funny. Brook is sassy, strong willed, curvy city girl. They're the perfect match for one another complimenting personality's and banter which just flows naturally.

Brilliantly written 5/5 stars!.

I loved this story. As all of Kat Baxter's stories it was short, sweet and spicy. Landry is funny and appealing from the get-go. He has been attracted to Brooklyn for a while and finally there is an opportunity to act on it when they have to take the place of her sister and husband on a romatice weekend. To be honest, I was a little confused why they were going to this resort.. I think it was to see how this wedding venue did things so they could do it at their own wedding venue they were planning on opening.. however it resulted in forced proximity. They did start by "faking" but there was not many scenes with other people and it quickly just turns into them taking advantage of the king bed they need to share.

It was well written, and funny with spicy scenes and romance. He falls first. I honestly do not know why the title calls him a "gruff loner" as he seems more of a jokester, but this does not change that this was a great, quick read. Definitely recommend.

Brooklyn and Landry

Brooklyn and Landry
Kat Baxter, this book is pretty awesome. Love the characters. Especially Landry. He makes me laugh out loud so so much. I’m gonna read this again, maybe a few times. Thing is, this isn’t like every other character every other book if you know what I mean. I’m retired so I read a lot… like voraciously. Sometimes the sameness bores me and I wanna toss my tablet. Well, right now, I’m definitely NOT BORED. CAPTIVATED is more like it! Thanks for making my day. Love your books, ALL OF THEM! Also that art deco pavé diamond platinum ring sounds beautiful and unique and really real… you describe it like you really got it from your mom… I love to read an author who’s descriptive text transports you to the place or the thing so I feel like I’m there. I’m so lost in the book, the world around me disappears… you do that.

Kat brings us back to Saddlecreek mountain (hill country) and introduces Brook (Natalie's sister from book1) and Landry. While it took me a moment to connect the storyline from book 1, while reading book 1 is recommended book 3 can stand alone, this book was so good I wish it had dropped sooner. Both Brook and Landry feel an instant connection, but Brook being accident prone is afraid she hasn't made the greatest impression on Landry (her hot, bearded, pierced rescuer). She also has hang ups from a past relationship. For Landry, Brook is the girl he can't get off his mind, but he fears he may not be good enough for this city girl. They are put together in a fake fiancee trope romance and together break down barriers to truly see one another, finding they're soul mates in the process.

Reverse Grump/Sunshine

I love a good Grumpy/sunshine trope, especially when the grump only loses his grumpiness around Miss Sunshine. Everyone else is SOL. Hehe.

So why not a Reverse G/S romance? To be fair, Landry, our sunshiny mountain man, has a sarcastic streak a mile long but he’s equal opportunity sarcastic with everyone. He also comes with a wicked sense of humor. Landry was quite refreshing. He is laid-back, self deprecating and doesn’t give himself enough credit for his accomplishments.

Brook is a Type A grump. She’s lost everything she worked for in a fire but she is determined to succeed with a new career with her sister in Saddle Creek. But first she meets Landry while she’s stuck in a ditch and then again when she slips in her heels. Now she is really grumpy, which just turns Landry on!

All this to say that Landry and Brook end up together in a Fake Dating, Forced Proximity, One Bed predicament. That they get out of, with pleasure, $exy times, and cake! YUM!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and and I purchased a copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!

Grumpy x Sunshine Invertido

Super recomendo!

This is the 3rd book in The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series featuring the funny sweet and steamy, grumpy/sunshine romance between Landry and Brook. Brook lost everything in a fire however she's intent on succeeding with her sister in a new career in Saddle Creek. When she first meets Landry she's stuck in a ditch and he comes to rescue her then Landry has to rescue her again when Brook slips in her heels. Landry is captivated by the sassy city-girl who's a little clumsy and prickly. Landry is a charming laid-back flirt with a good sense of humor Brook tries really hard to resist him. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this funny sweet and steamy, grumpy/sunshine romance to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

Brook, the female lead, is having a bad day when Landry, the male lead, literally comes to her rescue. Whilst he’s hot and charming, she doesn’t trust it, especially since he’s making fun of her. Landry knows he wants Brook but he’s also sure he’s not what a city girl would want. But when she needs a fake fiancé, he makes sure he’s her only option!

This short story is dual POV, well written, and an erotic contemporary romance. I enjoyed Brook’s determination to start over and be successful. I enjoyed Landry’s determination to win her over, and his confidence in his emotions. I enjoyed their erotic intimate scenes and the building of their relationship. I laughed at their (Brook’s) awkward moments.

Wow! Talk about instalove heat with this book! Loved it! Brook meets Landry when she swerved to miss a squirrel and is stuck off the side of the road. He helps her get her car out with his truck and there is an instant attraction between the two of them. There sassy banter back and forth made me laugh. When Brooke gets to her sister’s house, she falls on the ground where Landry shows up again and carries her into the house. The two of them get thrown together for a wedding planning weekend to help Brooke’s sister out while she is on bed rest. Boy do the sparks fly! Must read if you love curvy girls and alpha heroes.

Brook has had a string of bad luck, her vineyard she worked tirelessly to establish was burned down by a wildfire. She and her sister decide to open a wedding venue is Saddle Creek. Her sister had planned on checking out the competition with her fiancé but she is on bed rest. Brook is going in her place with her "fiancé" Landry.

Landry has been in love with Brook since the first time he saved her but she seems not to like him. He jumps at the chance to pretend to be her fiancé. Will he be able to convince her that they could have something real? I felt Landry was given a bum rap by Brook, it was not his fault he caught when she needed it.

I loved Brook and Landry so much!!! From the very first interaction to the last shower scene. Brook is trying to rebuild her life after a devastating fire takes out her vineyard. So decides to go to Saddle Creek where her sister is. Her first day there starts fantastic when she swerves off the road and winds up sassing Landry when he stops to help her.

They say there is a thin line between love and hate and it’s so true for these two. Brook is annoyed with Landry from the very first meeting but also enamored with him. Landry on the other hand knew the sassy mouth woman is meant to be his. Add in some fake fiancé goodness, some strategically placed piercings, denial cake tasting and you’ve got yourself a phenomenal story!

This is book number 3 of The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series and focuses on Landry and Brook. Brook moved to Saddle Creek to be closer to her sister and start a new business venture after her vineyard got destroyed by wildfires. What she doesn’t expect to find when she gets there is Landry and for him to affect her the way that he does. Landry was captivated by Brook from their first meeting but it took pretending to be fake engaged for him to get Brook to let her walls down and let him in. He knew what he wanted and did what he had to do to get Brook to fall for him just as hard and he fell for her. This was a great story and a great addition to the series!
