Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908.
Montgomery was born at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Nov. 30, 1874. She came to live at Leaskdale, north of Uxbridge Ontario, after her wedding with Rev. Ewen Macdonald on July 11, 1911. She had three children and wrote close to a dozen books while she was living in the Leaskdale Manse before the family moved to Norval, Ontario in 1926. She died in Toronto April 24, 1942 and was buried at Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
Rightly thought of as a literary classic, there are hundreds of reviews of Montgomery’s writing of which I would not hesitate to give five stars, but this review pertains to this edition only- if you are looking for the complete Anne Of Green Gables experience, please note that this is missing books 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Once I had completed the first 3 books I abandoned it and downloaded the complete set so that I could read the series in full.
As this is a collection of all six books in one, it has a mediocre rating. I really enjoyed the Anne of Green Gables in her younger years. I did not really enjoy the last few books as much. All that said, I am glad to have read this beloved children's classic.
The Anne of Green Gables series changed my life. Sorry for the hyperbole, but it's true. It was the first time I realized that a fictitious character could feel like my best friend. I can think of no better compliment to give an author than that. L.M. Montgomery gave the world a gift, especially young girls. May she rest in peace.
