I really enjoyed this book, watching Elsie take a more role into the sleuths added a new dynamic to the book, I had no idea right up to the end who did it, did leave a few questions about the other characters in the book id liked to have seen the conclusion too.
I look forward to the next steps and see if Richard and Camille can now be together with Harry out of the picture.
This is an absolutely fabulous Lady Camille mystery set under the Sicilian sun.
Lady C is on a girls' trip to Sicily. She thought the trip might be good for her daughter Ottilie, who is grieving her late father. For that matter, Camille is dealing with her own feelings for her late, estranged husband. Of course, Cecily has accompanied her ladyship, along with Elsie and her daughter, Rose.
As you might expect, they stumble into a mystery involving murder, smuggling and gun running, and even a missing opera star.
I was happy to see Elsie featured prominently in this book. Elsie is a madam who owns a chain of brothels. In earlier books, she seemed like an unlikely friend for Camille, but they have learned to celebrate their differences and have developed a warm friendship. And Elsie is coming to see her own worth and how smart she really is. And Elsie has some big news in this book!
This one goes down to the wire. In the end, saving Camille and Cecily is up to Elsie's wits and a last- minute appearance by the dashing Inspector Owen.
I could not get into the story for the number of English grammatical errors and extremely bad Italian translations! There were also numerous typos and missing punctuation throughout the book ! The story itself was quite enjoyable but the vernacular of Elsie was off putting and it was very difficult to believe that a Lord would want to marry her, given her profession, status and scruffy accent!Whose blood was it in the villa?? The book never revealed it despite this being the focal point of the story! Perhaps I missed it as I skipped quite a few chapters! It was easy to guess that the elder sister was in fact the opera star's mother, given the age gap!Rather silly killing off the conductor, though. I won't be reading any more in the series! The author needs an Italian translator and should not rely on the Google translation app as it is notoriously incorrect!
I must admit, I would love to live in Camille's world. All the men are very handsome and are gentlemen. Well, the good one's are. The baddies tend to be less good looking and have manners that leave plenty to be desired. I can't think why Camille and Cecily bother investigating. Chief Inspector Owen should just arrest the normal looking chaps and save all that time! At least it would stop Camille and Cecily from getting into trouble again.
This is a wonderful addition to the Camilla Divine oeuvre, but it is marred by typos in the text and mistakes in the geography of Sicily. (For example, Trapani is on the western side of Sicily, not on the eastern side as Camille tells Cecily.)
I recommend this work to Ms Hick’s faithful readers.
Camille and her daughter go on holiday in Sicily along with their maid Cecily and their friends Elsie & Rosa West. The ladies did a bit of sightseeing and shopping and of course eating great food. Then they find out a famous opera singer has gone missing. And that is really just the beginning. Read this book. You won't be sorry.
Lady Camilla is brave..lol. she does get into some sticky messes. I am really happy for what transpires with everyone. Really glad she didn't have to investigate her estranged husband's death...... Her love and protection of her mock family is very warming.
This series just keeps getting better and better! I am absolutely besotted with Camille and Cecily, Elsie and Knolly, indeed the wonderful array of characters beautifully developed by Andrea Hicks. I am glued to this series and The Sicilian Murders was a real treat! Looking forward to reading more
