Don't attack riders. Don't break dragonposts. Above all, never test the Order.
Skálda Branwright has been betrayed by the Republic. Her dreams of building realms burned in an elvish campaign she was never meant to survive—one that the Dragonsteel Order will fight to keep secret at all costs.
But the rules in the Deep North's wilderness are different. Outside the bounds of elvish rule, she may make her own.
Elondria faces the beginning of another continental war—with Skálda and Bale at the center. The time has come for the first rider in all history to dare ride a Bael into battle.
To protect her dragon and the free peoples of the North from the Order, Skálda will have no choice but to break. She will break many, many things... and herald a Second Breaking of the Realms sooner than she could have ever imagined.
Jasmine Young is the nobledark fantasy author of over 15 titles to date.
When she was thirteen, she first dreamed of becoming published after devouring Eragon in a few days on Grandma's couch. As a once painfully anxious introvert, her exposure to fantasy started with hiding out in the library with a great book.
Thirteen years later, her tomboy dreams came true.
Today, she is known worldwide as a part time hermit and a full time rebel. She is also the proud mother of birds. The family currently lounges in Florida.
When she’s not reminiscing about her gaming days or getting lost in old epics like LOTR, Jasmine writes a blend of epic, romantic, and dark fantasy to entertain and empower, especially the underdogs.

Plot, characters and world are well defined, and it is a good read with consistent development of the world and the characters. The books are let down considerably by the language used, with lots of erroneous word usage - I think the Author is trying for a level of erudite, literary or archaic language that she hasn't mastered.
Identification with the main character is not quite there, and particularly annoying are the wildly negative and completely unwarranted soliloquies that often end a chapter.
Oh. My. God. What the hell..just happened. I miss Aesir, baby come back😭. And I don’t care what loopholes we gotta form, but istg if Soren don’t show up magically in the next book..I’ll fall to my knees.
Book two in this series and I continue to be astounded at every chapter. We are in heavy war time in this one. Skalda has to go through so much yet again to earn her place among the vigardians, but her resolve never crumbles. Bale continues to be a silly goose, though I did get a little worried there for a bit. I was slowed down a bit by the pacing in the middle of the book but once that battle started, I was glued. The moments between Soren and Leondran were so precious and you could tell that despite how much Soren insisted he hated his presence, he needed him. Without him, I definitely don’t think Soren would have been able to get through that battle.
And Eyrekvald😔 my sweet stupid manipulated Eyrekvald. How I want to hug you and tell you that everything is alright, that you were more than enough. All he ever needed was to be reminded of his roots and that he was loved no matter what. If Skalda doesn’t get the Lord Prince, he will die by my hands for what he did to my boy Eyrek.
4.75⭐️ damnnn that was a good book. would have been 5 stars but there were some weird transitions / clunky writing at times but nothing major. overall just an epic high fantasy book. cool dragons & characters, gory battles, unexpected twists, and some emotional scenes. good soup. NEXT PLEASE
Jasmine Young is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, and "Realm Breaker #2: A Banishing of Kings" just confirms it. This book plunges us back into the intense world of Skalda and her dragon, Bale, picking up right where the first left off.
Skalda's journey from a betrayed warrior to a fierce protector is captivating. Bale’s ever-growing sass and courage, and the bond between them, is the heart of the story. The characters are so well-developed that you’re constantly questioning who to trust. I'll admit, with so many elvish-type names thrown at you, mixed with their titles or shortened names, I was initially like, "????" But Jasmine has a glossary on her website, which helped a lot when I found myself going, "Where? What? Who??" You catch up quickly, though.
The vivid battle scenes transport you right into the heart of the action, where you can practically feel the intensity of dodging sword thrusts and avoiding dragon fire. Young's willingness to make tough decisions for her characters adds a layer of realism and tension that keeps you on the edge of anticipation. My reaction throughout? Mouth agape, shouting 'WHAT?! NO, WHY? WHAT!?' at every shocking turn.
I discovered this gem in a women’s Facebook group for readers, and I couldn’t be happier. If you love epic fantasy with deep lore and complex characters, this series is a must-read. Book three drops in July, and I can’t waaaait!
PLUS THE COOOVERRRR. It's a showstopper, destined to proudly adorn my shelf with its breathtaking artwork by Ertac Altinoz, who also lends his talent to George R.R. Martin's works.
HOLY BALE! This was such a great sequel. I enjoyed book 1 so much, I thought, there's no way book 2 can be better. Welp, I was wrong! This one is gripping right from the start without missing a beat from that ending in A Breaking of Realms and easily draws you into the fight!
A Banishing of Kings is loaded with action. The battle scenes here are really intense and very easy to visualize, which makes it even more epic. Skalda is developing into a fierce warrior as her magic develops more, and her bond with Bale strengthens to new heights. Bale is growing stronger, bigger, and so is the sass! I love it.
Everything I loved from book 1 is here and kicked up a notch. From the intriguing politics of world building to the twists and turns in the plot, A Banishing of Kings easily surpassed the love I have for A Breaking of Realms. And this series is easily becoming a new obsession!
Nice story, fantastic dragons. Not too much mushy stuff. I’m enjoying the series. The perspective is interesting and novel magic and creatures keep me reading
I liked book one a lot… but book two? Book two was so much more. As I’m writing this, I’ve already started listening to book three.
A Breaking of Realms throws you straight into the wilds of Elondria with dragons, blood, politics, and a heroine who refuses to break… until she has no other choice.
Skálda’s bond with Bael (the fierce little hatchling who crashes into her life) is powerful, raw, and constantly tested. But this isn’t just a story about Skálda and Bael — there’s a full cast of compelling characters, and at its heart, this is a story of rebellion, loyalty, sacrifice, and the brutal cost of truth.
With multi-POV chapters, shifting alliances, and battles that hit hard (both emotionally and literally), A Banishing of Kings raises the stakes and then rips them apart. And Aesir? Still complicated. Still a favourite.
Also? The audiobook narration is phenomenal. Tension, pacing, character voices — so well done. Highly recommend the dual read.
The character names are finally sticking in my head! Point one for Jessie! I will say, though, I’m having a really hard time picturing the characters, the dragons, all of em, in my head. I feel like I’m flying a bit blind here but it’s perfectly FINE because this story is so artfully crafted. I didn’t even see the end cliffhanger coming (like wtf guys what’s happening), and I’m speed typing this just so I can start the next book. Byeeee!
This story has so much potential, and so much adventure and depth. However it needs an editor to clean it up, much like the first book it feels a little slippery/messy, not held together well due to the lack of descriptions of certain things, typos, etc. I still love the story and I’m hoping a publisher will pick this up and bring it to the next level to showcase what this story truly has to offer.
This instalment swept me up just as much as the first. It balances high-stakes action with deeper emotional threads, and I found myself more invested in the characters’ struggles than ever. There’s a rawness to the relationships and a tension in the unfolding conflicts that made the story feel both urgent and heartfelt.

🙌 What I Liked One of the highlights for me was the introduction of Soren. His presence added a new layer of intrigue, and his evolving dynamic with Skalda quickly became one of the strongest elements in the book. I was deeply engaged with his storyline and can only hope this isn’t the last time we’ll see him.
The bond between Skalda and Bale is another standout. Their connection is powerful and feels raw in a way that grounds the fantastical stakes in real emotion. Watching Bale’s growth—particularly the expansion of his powers—was both thrilling and moving. I’m eager to see how this development will play out in future instalments.
The world-building continues to be expansive, steeped in history and mythology. Like the first book, there are an overwhelming number of names, places, and references, but I found myself approaching it differently this time—letting the detail wash over me unless it was directly relevant. This helped me stay immersed in the story without getting lost.
❌ What Didn’t Hit While the action and emotional depth kept me hooked, a few storylines didn’t land as strongly. Eyrek’s arc, in particular, felt a little anticlimactic. Given the strong build-up of his presence as a major villain across the series so far, his storyline here didn’t carry quite the weight I’d expected.
I also struggled with the prose at times. The writing often aims for a more formal tone, but some of the word choices felt slightly misplaced or awkward, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. It’s ambitious, and I admire the attempt, but it didn’t always flow as smoothly as I’d hoped.
And while Soren was a brilliant addition, the way his storyline wrapped up left me disappointed. I felt there was so much more potential in his arc, and I’d be sad if this book marked the end of his role in the series.
👀 Do I Recommend It? Absolutely. Despite a few bumps, this was a compelling continuation that delivered on both action and heart. The characters’ bonds—whether tested by loyalty, power, or survival—make the story resonate, while the expansive world keeps raising the stakes. It’s a series that rewards investment, and I’m already looking forward to seeing where the next book takes us.

Im enjoying this series so much!! This is the second instalment in the Realm Breaker series and it did not disappoint. It doesn't matter what 'side' any of the characters are on, I still have mixed emotions towards all of them because they are all so morally grey, and all believe they are doing what is right. The author definitely knew what she was doing!!
Bale and Skalda - i was annoyed, scared, angry, hopeful. Then I finished it. And now im like shit... who the hell is Bale's REAL rider?!? A perfect cliffhanger 👏
There was plenty of action throughout which was brillant. The author is not scared to kill off Dragons at all. The description is heart wrenching at times 🥺 I did not expect Eryek and Soren to die at all. Even though Eryek was an absolute asshole, I wanted him to put things right as best he could. And I really thought Skalda and Soren would be end game. Unless (wishful thinking) they aren't dead...?!? Ahhhh!!
A 4-star read for me. Im looking forward to the next book

The second book of the series is even better than the first, especially for more impatient readers, who love an action-packed story.
This book is so well written that you can't decide whose side to take - who is a friend and who is a foe and you want to keep reading to find that out. The villains and the heroes take turns at being villains or heroes. I liked that.
The characters are very relatable, not necessarily through their actions (some of which are despicable) but through their underlying emotions, through their ambitions, dreams, fears and sorrows.
I don't cry easily when I read, but this book had intense moments that made me ache.
I admit I was angry at the author for killing certain characters (even though I understand why she had to do it) but I have to say I need the third book like yesterday!!! Please write faster, dear Jasmine Young!!!
I picked this up after giving the first book the same rating because I had a smidge of hope it would get better. However, I mentally checked out when the rebellion's leader put the main character, who very recently murdered his wife, in charge of nannying his two very young children as a "punishment"?? And the little girl, who witnessed her kill her mother, warms up to her very quickly with no work towards an amicable relationship. Totally rational. Maybe this was explained after I dnf, but I could not stop thinking about this.
The friendships and alliances built with the main character were not earned imo, the main character contradicts herself several times, and the world information was just all over the place. The premise of this series really had great potential, and some scenes were great to read, but majority of the execution was just not there for me.

Skalda continues her journey into the untamed lands... and finds more than she bargained for. The centuries-long animosity between elves and humans only intensifies with the growth of Bael. At least that's how it seemed to me - as he grows, so does the darkness and division between humans, elves, Republic-dwellers and the Freeholds. The manipulations and ongoing scheming in the shadows is intensified as war breaks out over various cities and Builds.
Truly, this series is one to get lost in (in a good way) while you watch the characters grow, grieve, and groan through battles, memories, dreams, and sacrificial love.
I don’t feel that this author truly knows how to ‘paint a picture’ with storytelling. A lot of this book and the first one were a grind to read because sometimes the way she described settings from the perspective of the character she was writing about heavily conflicted with what said character was doing and where they were in relation.
If I picture this happening as a B level movie, it makes it more tolerable.
I also feel like, while this is fantasy, the author doesn’t understand war and mythological realms.
This book has so much potential that I think it just needed more time and proofreaders.
This book and series is amazing! I love every aspect of this storyline. It will awe you, scare you and empower you, if you only take in the emotions Scálda goes through. Her binding with Bale continues to grow and get stronger as Bale grows stronger and gets larger. Another thing growing is their love for each other, a dragon in a fashion and his rider, or more accurately, a Bael and the first Bael rider. This story will grab you and not release you. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, “A Building of Empires.”
As soon as I read the first few pages I was sucked in - I had no idea with how Book 1 ended where Book 2 was going to go storyline-wise and it did not disappoint! It was full of action and surprises - the author did an amazing job of expanding the old characters and introducing new ones and the continuation of world building was fantastic.
I couldn't put the book down and now I'm just sad that I'll have to wait for Book 3 in the series :) Loved it!!!
First off, let me say it was an awesome epic read both the first and second one but very messy and I am someone who really remembers the details and descriptions of characters and I felt like like there was not enough of a foundation of even the main characters descriptions. She had awesome character, development and storyline and world building just needs to be cleaned up a little bit more overall a great read I would recommend to anybody who likes fantasy and dragons.
There is a lot of fantasy and a lot of dragon books out there, but these sounded different enough for me to start them. Book 1 grabbed my attention enough to buy book 2. I have not been disappointed. In this one the tension keeps ratcheting up. Just when you think you can breathe and relax, the unexpected happens, the twists and turns just keep coming. Now i have to buy book 3...
A fantastic second book in the series. I was once again hooked from the first page right to the end. Jasmine Young is absolutely skilled with her character development and world building skills. Her characters seem to grow more with every page. I absolutely recommend reading this book. I can't wait to see what is in store for Skalda next. So, on to the next book.
Libro assolutamente consigliato.
These cliffhangers are going to be the death of me. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what in the world happened in the last battle with the Were King, his father, and the Lord Prince. This just seems to get more intense as the series progresses and I'm not liking it. When are they going to catch a break!!?
I could not put it down! I was waiting for a place where I could stop and didn’t find one. It is full of adventures and battles, evil verses good etc. amazing book!
The first half of this book took me a long time to read. The second half I read very quickly. I guess I liked the heavy action in the second half better than the set up in the first that seemed to drag by.
Even better than the first book! Skalda is becoming more powerful and so is Bale. There is lots of action and more characters to love and hate. The Order is starting to show their true colors. Can't wait for the next book!
Book is paced well and a good read but I feel the dragons built to heights only to shatter same book. Seems the power balance is off from what is promised. Still recommended for those that enjoy fantasy I will finish the series myself
These are books you can't put down. You have to keep on reading. You have to know what is going to happen next. And believe me you won't believe what happens next. Love love and love these books.
