About the author

Chas Newkey-Burden is a British journalist and author. His books include The Reduced History of Britain, Great Email Disasters and Not In My Name: A Compendium Of Modern Hypocrisy (co-written with Julie Burchill). He has also written unauthorised biographies of Simon Cowell, Paris Hilton, Amy Winehouse, Alexandra Burke and six official publications for Arsenal football club.

He has written for publications including The Guardian, Four Four Two, Total Football, Time Out, Attitude and The Big Issue; and internet sites including Ynetnews, The First Post and Guardian Blogs. A former Contributing Editor to Loaded magazine and former editor of the football website icons.com, where he was also Dennis Bergkamp's official biographer. Interviewees include David Beckham, Ricky Gervais, Frank Lampard, Rachel Stevens and James Bourne.

Newkey-Burden has discussed his books, football news and the Middle East on TV and radio shows including Sky News, CNN, BBC Breakfast News, The Today Programme on Radio 4, Five Live Breakfast, TalkSport, Capital Gold and BBC Radio London. He was featured on the BBC 2 documentary Cold War Kids, the Sky One show Celebrities On Heat and The Biography Channel and Fuse Television's documentaries on Amy Winehouse.

Newkey-Burden has a blog, entitled OyVaGoy, in which he describes himself as 'philosemitic' and posts opinions firmly in support of the state of Israel, and critical of those he perceives as being against Israel.
In July 2008, the British satirical magazine Private Eye reported that Newkey-Burden had posted positive reviews of his own books on the Amazon.co.uk online bookstore.

this little 200-page book is one of the hardest books to read, because the writing style is reminiscent of a middle schooler’s, and because of the implication that taylor is only successful because of how “pure” and “wholesome” she is. overall, kinda misogynistic but tries to redeem itself, but some parts were okay. don’t read this even if you’re a swiftie.

Joskus on tullut pohdiskeltua, millaista olisi lukea sellaisen taiteilijan elämäkerta, jonka tuotanto ei ole millään tavalla itselle tuttua. No, tämä ei ollut ihan sellainen, sillä olenhan minä elämäni aikana Taylor Swiftin musiikkia kuullut, mutta aika läheltä liippaa kuitenkin.

Englantilainen Chas Newkey-Burden on kunnostautunut kirjoittamalla erilaisista julkisuuden henkilöistä sekä Arsenalin jalkapallojoukkuuesta. Kyynikko voisikin sanoa, ettei "Taylor Swift: Elämä ja musiikki" (Docendo, 2025) ole syntynyt rakkaudesta Swiftin musiikkiin, vaan tarpeesta tienata hieman rahaa maailman tämän hetken suosituimman popartistin nimellä. Lienee tarpeetonta mainita, että Swift ei itse ole osallistunut kirjan tekemiseen millään tavalla, vaan teoksen lähteenä on käytetty lukuisia haastatteluja, dokumentteja ja sosiaalisen median julkaisuja.

Vuonna 1989 syntynyt Swift varttui Pennsylvaniassa. Vanhemmat olivat hyvin toimeen tulevia rahoitusalan ammattilaisia, ja kirjan mukaan samanlaista kohtaloa kaavailtiin myös Taylorille. This book was amazing. However, it had a lot of spelling and grammatical errors and mistakes. There were also a few moments in the book that were repetitive and saying the same thing over again. As far as the story and research, I really enjoyed this book. I also liked the author’s insight to almost every song she’s written and each album. Overall this was a fun and educational read, I just wish it was written a little better.

Nešaubīgi, Teilore ir fenomenāla personība. Talantīga, iedvesmojoša un dažbrīd pat pārcilvēciska!
Interesanti sekot līdzi Teilores emocijām, atklājot dziesmas tekstos paslēptos vēstijumus. Dziesmas kā stāsti, dienasgrāmatas ieraksti par to, kas dotajā brīdī svarīgs. No pirmā studijas albuma līdz desmitajam var manīt kā viņa aug kā personība, māksliniece, sieviete.
Taču šī biogrāfijas versija ir informācijas apkopojums, kurš savākts no publiksi pieejamām ziņām par viņas ceļu uz slavas virsotnēm. Es noteikti uzzināju daudz kā jauna, taču varu pievienoties vairākām lasītām atsauksmēm par grāmatu. Pašas Teilores te pietrūka…

Jag är ett stort fan av Taylor och beundrar henne väldigt mycket i allt hon gör; inte bara henne utstående talang som låtskrivare och musiker utan att hon verkar vara en sån ödmjuk, snäll , smart och jordnära person, vilket är väldigt ovanligt i hennes bransch. Vad gäller denna bok, så får man ta den lite med en nypa salt då Taylor själv inte är inblandad i denna biografi. Som en Swifte vet man redan allt det som står i boken, då den bitvis känns som ett referat och en skvallerblaska.
Taylor behöver igen bok om sitt liv, det når ut till oss ändå, då hon redan är öppenhjärtlig och ärlig i sina texter. Boken får ändå tre stjärnor av mig för Taylor är ändå Taylor.

I would love for Taylor to write a in depth biography of herself. That way, her fans can get more from her. Yes, we get songs, but just more depth of everything she can write about.

Of course I read this book, I’m a Swiftie!

I was just browsing in the book section of target, when I saw not a magazine, but a book with Taylor on the front. I saw that this book was an updated of the original book released in 2013, and via a brief flick through of the pages, I saw that the eras tour was mentioned… so I picked it up right away.

My Taylor knowledge is already probably embarrassing to a lot of people, but reading about her story from the beginning until recent, is something I knew I’d enjoy. I learned a lot about how Taylor started out and made a name for herself, as well as the dynamic between her and people around her over the years. There was a lot of in depth talk about the debut album, which made sense. I thought “surely a 300 page book won’t go so in depth about each album AND talk about the eras tour?”… it didn’t.

Every album seemed to have less and less depth about it. Starting with thorough analysis of the songs on Taylor’s debut album, as the story proceeded through the albums, there was less analysis of the songs, the success of the album and the awards she achieved from them. For example, it never mentioned ‘Fearless’ won a Grammy for AOTY. It didn’t mention the depth of her record breaking ‘1989’. There was no critical analysis of the backlash of ‘reputation’ and ‘Lover’ of how they were seeing a decline in sales, love from fans, and everything else highlighted in the documentary ‘Miss Americana’ - which was only indirectly mentioned. The loss of LoverFest, the love triangles in Folklore. A literal brush over Evermore (which Taylor would probably giggle at). The record breaking Midnights and its iconic top 10 on billboard hot 100 moment. The announcement of Speak Now TV and 1989 TV. The eras tour was quickly passed on after talking about the setlist song numbers, how much it grossed and where the first show was held. Travis was mentioned, but there was no depth.

I feel like this ‘update’ was rushed to be released during Taylor’s current hype of Taylormania. It would be a good read for new swifties to learn about her earlier career, but for an avid swiftie, I would honestly pass. I think if someone is going to write a book about Taylor, you can’t squeeze it into one book. Either do a series and keep updating it with a NEW book, such as keeping the original non updated book, and release the update from where the first one left off. Maybe do a seperate book about re-recordings and the tour? This book at points felt like a chore because it was too much analysis and then felt like they were changing topic at 100mph with sub-par analysis of everything.

Overall, I enjoyed because it’s based on Taylor. But I would say borrow this book from a friend if they have it, or just Google what you want to know instead of spending money on this book.

Zij is een van de meest invloedrijke en populaire artiesten van deze tijd. Het boek volgt Taylor's reis van haar jeugd in Pennsylvania naar het internationale sterrenleven.

Je krijgt als lezer een inkijk op de muzikale evolutie van Taylor Swift. Ook de thema’s, die haar muziek zo herkenbaar maken, worden toegelicht. Dit zijn hoofdzakelijk: liefde, liefdesverdriet, vriendschap en zelfontdekking. Het boek ligt ook de achtergrond van haar albums verder toe. Daarnaast worden haar bekendste nummers ook verder uitgediept en krijg je als lezer een verdere inkijk hierop. Een voorbeeld hiervan is ‘Fifteen’. Eén van mijn favoriete liedjes van Taylor Swift. Het is een emotioneel lied waarin hartzeer centraal staat, maar het krijgt nog meer betekenis als je weet dat Taylor het schreef voor haar hartsvriendin Abigail.

Verder wordt er aandacht besteed aan haar invloed op de muziekindustrie en haar vermogen om in contact te blijven met haar fans, wat haar tot een unieke figuur maakt.

Hoewel het boek een goed overzicht geeft van Taylor Swift haar carrière, is de schrijfstijl eenvoudig en informatief. Er wordt geen inkijk gegeven op de persoonlijke gedachten en gevoelens van Taylor. Fans die op zoek zijn naar een intiem portret of exclusieve inzichten kunnen dit misschien als een gemis ervaren.

Al met al is ‘Taylor Swift – Het hele verhaal’ een goede introductie voor nieuwe fans, maar ook zeker voor Swifties. Het boek geeft een helder overzicht van haar muziek, hoewel het wellicht wat oppervlakkig blijft voor lezers die op zoek zijn naar een diepgaande analyse. Het boek krijgt daarom 3,5 sterren.

If you’re a new Swiftie and looking to dive deeper into Taylor Swift’s career this book is a great starte that offers a detailed exploration! As a long time Taylor fan though, I have to admit, I felt like it didn’t teach me much I didn’t already know. While the book spends a lot of time analyzing her first six albums, going through each one song by song, it started to feel like I was powering through it just to get to the end. The most frustrating part for me was the final quarter of the book quickly breezed through the last 6-8 years of Taylor’s life, which I personally found to be the most interesting part of her career. The pace felt rushed, especially considering this book claims to cover her “whole story.” Additionally, the focus of the book is mostly on Taylor’s career, her awards, and celebrity drama, with little attention given to her personal life. While this might appeal to readers who want a deeper understanding of Taylor’s music and public persona, I found myself wanting more insight into her personal journey as well. That said, if you’re truly looking to get to know Taylor Swift and her music, this book does offer some solid information. Just don’t expect a well-rounded look at her entire life.

I was stuck on two stars for a long time, but towards the end (where my own knowledge of TS begins) it just got worse and worse. This isn't good for swifties, because the few new fun facts can't make up for all the info that's missing. It also isn't good for people who know nothing about TS as it doesn't even begin to give a complete view.

Certain things I thought the most interesting were glossed over, relationships that are relatively important weren't mentioned at all. Even if you don't want to focus on the romance (which this book does plenty), it completely missed the video producer side of TS which, genuinely, you cannot miss if you read up on her a little bit.

Lost my complete faith when either the writer, the translator of the Dutch edition I read, any of the editors after them or ALL OF THESE PEOPLE did not know how to pronounce Kelce's last name. How embarrassing 😅

Uma leitura muito interessante, especialmente porque acompanho a Taylor desde a minha pré-adolescência. Uma abordagem resumida à sua vida e carreira, a qual me pareceu competente e fundada em artigos e entrevistas dos media mais fiáveis. Obviamente, não se trata de uma análise cirúrgica à persona de Taylor nem à indústria musical, mas são feitas observações muito interessantes, as quais pessoas menos informadas nessas temáticas agradecem.

Embora a escrita seja bastante simplista e aduladora em relação à estrela pop (imprimindo um caráter indubitavelmente pessoal, mas que acaba por refletir o respeito e admiração pela artista que tantos sentem, eu incluída), não deixa de ser um livro que recomendo. Recomendo, claramente, aos fãs de Taylor, mas também aos conhecedores da indústria musical e amantes da música em geral.

The quality of writing is definitely worth 2 stars but I did enjoy reading this and have learnt more about the incredible Taylor Swift. It felt unedited, with some sentences that just didn't make sense, and grammar and spelling errors. However, if you can see past that and want to learn more about the journey that Swift has taken, then this book is interesting. It spans up to the release of the Eras tour movie and precedes the release of TTPD. (Also I was disappointed that the author didn't mention her cameo in Hannah Montana The Movie).

Note: I am not a fan of Taylor Swift, but I can tolerate her songs okay. My sister is a massive fan, and one of the reasons I decide to pick up this book.

I'm not sure what the writer of this book is trying to do. She tries to portray Taylor in an angelic light, endlessly gushing on how determined she was, so when it was finally mentioned how selfish she was (uprooting her whole family to Nashville is totally not selfish at all), it's almost a relief.

At Nashville the writer makes it out as if everything was smooth-sailing for Taylor, though I am pretty sure it wasn't without a few bumps. Again, the angelic theme persisted, and Taylor seemed like a unicorn who kept shitting out song after winning song (no, seriously).

Once more, it was a relief when Taylor was finally signed, and become the big star she is today. The writer's version of hip-hip-hooray comes in the form of a short interview transcript, and various people of dubious fame describing her. My favourite? Harry Styles, I quote: "She was a pain in the arse." I am not a fan of One Direction nor Harry Styles either, but I do have to agree with him – the writer was most certainly a pain in the arse.

The book Taylor Swift the Whole story is really good. I liked how it talked about Taylor's whole story and how she got to where she is today. It was interesting to find out how old taylor was when she started singing, playing guitars, and writing songs. It also talked about how hard she worked to get where she is now. This book talks about how hard Taylor works to get to where she is right now. It was interesting to find out how hard we worked and is working.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes Taylor Swift or is interested in how she became famous.

I would definitely recommend this book to one of my friends that likes music or Taylor Swift.

I have to give it 3 stars because even if it's Taylor Swift (who is amazing) the way the biography was written was not that great. It started with an informative and detailed insight into life when she was a young kid and throughout her first two albums but it got rushed the more you read on. When you got to the last chapters of the book it was less detailed and more on surface level. The author also went back on to add things that happened before or after the event they were talking about making it confusing to realise what part of her life you were up to. It took me a while to read because of this but I still think its a great book!

Love Taylor Swift and it was nice to read about her start and earlier albums which the book covers in depth. I also love hearing quotes from her that remind me why I’m a fan. However the author consistently refers to her as an American sweetheart and brings down other female artists who aren’t of that mold that young Taylor was. Also he calls Joe Alwyn the “pathological people pleaser” which makes me feel like he didn’t even listen to You’re Losing Me.

E chi se lo aspettava che Taylor Swift sarebbe risultata così? Così talentuosa. Così testarda e così inarrestabile.
Non ha permesso assolutamente a niente e a nessuno di mettersi sulla sua strada, fin da piccola.

L’unica pecca sono i capitoli infiniti.

Nonostante io non sia una fan accanita della cantante ho trovato comunque molto d’intrattenimento la sua storia.

Brīžam liekas, ka dažu dziesmu apraksti krāšņāki kā pašas dziesmas. Un nē, man nav antipātijas pret Teilores dziesmām :) TS dziesmu lipīgums un tiktoki no pēdējās tūres tieši bija iemesls, kādēļ nolēmu uzināt kaut ko vairāk par šo dziedātāju

This book is an actual biography, complete with footnotes, pictures, and analysis of the real Taylor Swift. One of the most interesting aspect is the in-depth analysis of how Taylor Swift composed each track.

To be honest, this book sounded like a fan fiction author had written it. It very much focused on how Taylor is successful because of her personality and charm and not at all her skill (which is a lie).
