Talon Aliens. Deputy Talon Winslow is pretty sure he’s protecting aliens, but he’s starting to get the hang of it…aside from a few interesting issues that keep popping up, like an armored truck going missing. His new job pays too well to be as simple as it looks, but he hadn’t expected glowing eyes and adorable littles who almost sparkle they’re so fascinating. But if aliens come in cute and kinky, does it really matter they’re not human?
Kenzie Dragons. Kenzie can’t quite decide if the new deputy he’s planning on keeping knows about dragons and mages or not. However, it doesn’t take him long to decide it isn’t the most important question when dating the handsome, slightly puzzling human. When will he get to call him Daddy and if the deputy knows Kenzie is keeping him are much better questions.
When a small mountain town isn’t as boring as it seems, a slightly confused human and a dragon with a toy hoard will learn that there’s always a bit of magic involved when falling in love.
The blurb was great and I was in the mood for a Daddy/little book, and the paranormal angle was a plus. I just can't go on though.
First, it felt like I was dropped into a story that had already started somewhere else, and even after a few chapters, there were more instances. A bit of research found a Bookfunnel short prequel called Pouts & Pancakes which gives just enough of the background I felt I was missing.
Kenzie says he's a good grown-up with his own house and own business, but he acts little even when he's "grown-up". Talking like he's a child is constant, which leads to a lack of in-depth conversation. I couldn't even make it to the part where he tells Talon he's a dragon shifter or shifts and just the thought of them doing anything sexual was kind of off-putting since Kenzie was so child-like all the time. Talon, a new human deputy in the town, becomes Kenzie's Daddy within minutes of meeting him. When I stopped reading they'd known each other less than two days but they were both all-in with each other. Talon also believes that the town is occupied by aliens and that Kenzie is one of them.
The plot was, I believe, supposed to be Talon finding a missing armored car full of gold, while settling into this new town he's been in for about two weeks, but none of that moved forward after the first meeting between the two. There were also several instances where I had no idea who was talking and it turned out to be some third person yelling out to them in a store or something like that.
Anyway, sounded promising but I just couldn't do it anymore. I felt like I was losing brain cells every time the MCs had a conversation or we were in Kenzie's POV. I guess I just need a good divide between the MC's grown-up space and little space.
Magic and Mayhem was not a good read, and I'm actually annoyed that the author did so little with what could have been a wholly original concept.
I've read my fair share of age-play books, but I have yet to read a paranormal M/M one (I think...), so I was really excited for a magical world full of fantasy and littles and daddies. M.A. Innes has been hit or miss for me in the past, but I was counting on this one being good.
It wasn't.
First of all, world-building??? This book doesn't know her. I checked multiple times to be sure, but this does NOT feel like the first in a series. It seems like we are dropped into the middle of an established series, and it just does not compute. A cop and dragons but nothing to show you how or WHY this all is happening? Like, just make it a regular contemporary age play romance if you want to put so little effort into it.
Also, I like some build-up to my romance. This was instalove all the way. I was bored and annoyed at how fast this couple got together, and with very little effort. It was too fast.
Just a half-hearted effort for something that could have been unique. I'm very disappointed.
I think I liked the blurb better. I like my fluffy sugary read but even I can't get over how saccharine this book gets. There was not a lot driving the plot forward, no external conflict. And it just seemed like Kenzie was a little too little.
Annoyingly, this one just didn't work for me as I was intrigued by the premise.
But it felt like I'd missed half a book from the first chapter alone, and it just didn't improve.
I like a Daddy/little plotline usually, but coupled with the "there's something not right in this town, oh it must be Aliens" (they're dragons), it meant the narrative was hugely confusing from the off.
I sadly DNF-ed it after 20% when I was no wiser but our two MCs seemed to be heading into an intstalove relationship within two minutes of meeting.
I'm in the minority because I didn't like this AT ALL. I'm shocked this one has as high of a rating as it does. Seriously, I felt like Kenzie was an 8 year old. It was horrible.
We never ever see Kenzie as an adult. He literally acts like a child the entire book. There are so many sentences just repeated over and over I was annoyed by 15% of the way in. But I'm of course in a challenge and can't change my books, so I had to suffer through 250 more pages of the same crap.
I've liked some of the authors other books, but this series is done for me.
t’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Shaw Montomery and their alter-ego MA Innes. What I am not such a huge fan of is shifter romances – absolutely no shade to those who do love the sub-genre, it’s just not generally my thing. There are a few notable exceptions, namely Amy Bellows’ penguins, polar bears, foxes, and of course her fabulous Expensive, not to mention Drea Roman’s The Selkie’s Coat. I am now adding The Blue Ridge Magic duet to this list (full disclosure: only Book 1 is currently available). So, let’s talk about Magic and Mayhem.
Talon is the newly employed Deputy of a sleep little town in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is at his wits end when we meet him in Chapter One. There is something unusual about the inhabitants of this new town and he can’t for the life of him pinpoint what it is. While he thinks he knows, he just doesn’t know how to deal with this knowledge or how to have it confirmed. It’s not like he can walk up to the Sherriff and ask him if he’s an alien, right? The opening of the book takes us along with Talon as he muses over this, getting increasingly exasperated by both not knowing for sure and having to deal with the unusual antics the townspeople get up to.
Enter Kenzie.
Kenzie is, we discover quite quickly, a Little – well more a Middle than a Little but let’s not get distracted. He is adorable – I cannot over emphasise this. Kenzie is so sweet you will need to visit a dentist after reading. He is also a – and I promise I’m not spoiling this – a dragon shifter. And he plans to keep the new Deputy as part of his hoard.
Magic and Mayhem is an Instalove, Daddy/Little, Shifter mishmash that shouldn’t work but does. It should be read in one sitting with either a favorite beverage of any variety on hand and a box of chocolates wouldn’t hurt either. This is a story to lose yourself in for an afternoon and to just … enjoy. Often, for me at least, books that don’t require you to think hard are dull for that very reason. In losing the demand for you to think, they too often lose the need for imagination or emotion. Not so Magic and Mayhem. The world building, while subtle (my one complaint would be I would have liked to have learned more about where the shifters came from), is perfect and gives the story a little more substance than you would expect from this type of laid back book. It is the characters though that give Magic and Mayhem its charm. One of the greatest strengths Montgomery/Innes has, is the ability to create characters that it’s impossible to not feel something about. I have never found a Montgomery/Innes main character I haven’t liked, though I have found characters that frustrated me – none more so than Eli from the Leashes and Lace series – and I have never found any I could ignore. Kenzie and Talon now top this list and I really can’t wait for Book 2, Secrets & Kisses, due on December 8.
I was gifted a copy of Magic & Mayhem with no expectation from the person offering the gift. This review represents my honest thoughts and is x-posted from my website.
I'm disappointed with this book. There's no plot and zero conflict, even outside of the main relationship, which made for a boring read. Also, while Kenzie is cute and endearing, his POV gets to be exhausting. He's also supposed to be a little, but all we get is baby talk and a toy hoard. There's no playtime on page. Not even coloring. Other than mention of a sippy cup and jammies, there's no other "little" stuff. The author told me Kenzie is a little, but didn't show me. There are also very few spicy scenes, and they're uninspiring.
The dialogue and internal thoughts are so dang repetitive! If I read "cute" or "smart" one more time, I was gonna lose it. And the writing style is choppy and confusing at times. It bounced around, and I had to jump back several times to figure out who was actually speaking.
I read a lot of PNR and Daddy books (with and without age play), so I'm all for the insta-everything and suspending reality. But this book just fell flat in all aspects of these two genres. I'm curious about Boyd and the librarian, so I may give this series another try...idk...
This is such a delightful, sweet story that is guaranteed to keep you smiling throughout.
Poor deputy Talon, he's just landed a dream job with huge perks, but does he really know what to expect in this very curious town? Every day he is faced with another person or situation that his logic cannot comprehend but why shake the boat? When he meets the adorable Kenzie the Daddy in him perks up, the cutie in front of him is just crying out to be protected, organised and kissed and ....yeah, too cute to resist. What he doesn't know is that Kenzie has already claimed his Daddy and has placed him in his hoard, now all he has to do is tell his human that he is not human but a pretty dragon, easy right?
This was a cute start to a new series, who needs logic anyway?
Magic and Mayhem is the first book in the Blue Ridge Magic series by M.A. Innes. This is the story of Kenzie and Talon. Kenzie is such a cutie!! I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.
DNF @11% ... cute enough, but honestly, I don't know why I try with this author anymore. "It's not you; it's me." They're still writing the same cuteness, I think it's just that my own taste-slash-patience-with-nothing-but-fluff level has evolved.
“Who said you weren’t a good grown-up? It’s obvious you do amazing work.” Aww. Yes, I was definitely keeping him.
I loved this book more than I expected to. Why? Well, I normally don't read Daddy/little books with age play, but oh my, these two were wonderful. I loved their dynamic from the get-go. At first, I wasn't sure about Kenzie and his bubbly, chaotic side, but he grew on me, and I loved him to bits. Talon? Oh my. He was amazing from the very beginning, and I loved how respectful and mindful he was. Wow. A king of kink communication.
I was happy there was literally no angst between the two MCs. The only tension is between the MCs and the nosy town. But it’s still a sweet, fluffy, calming romance, and I personally needed that. I will definitely check out more from this author because they wrote a Daddy/little book without making it weird. It was just endearing and often funny. Yep. Lovely.
I really don’t know where to start with this one. First couple of pages I thought this was a continuation of a prequel, a just started where it left off.
Talon is the new Deputy of Blue Ridge but something is wrong with the town but he can’t put his finger on what it was, but he rolled with the punches. Kenzie was a (overly) sweet little and the constant “baby“ dialogue was not cute at all. For me there was no distinction between “little “ Kenzie or “big “ Kenzie.
Supporting characters were okay but not sure I want to invest my time in finding out about their HEA.
Oh my, this is the first in what I am sure is going to be an absolutely amazingly adorable series with dragon sized little and conversations that are sometimes a little wacky but made me laugh and smile. I enjoyed every single moment of reading this. This is definitely going on my reread pile.

This could've been so good... I mean, a Daddy/little story with a paranormal romance where the sub is a freaking dragon and a small town trope bonus?? yes, please!
Turns out the whole book felt like a disjointed story between a puppy(and not the kinky kind either) and a human being trying to rationalize aliens because the job pays well. And there's a scene about flying as well.
I can't say how many times Kenzie went into "smart" mode, it was supposed to be cute but it was almost 300 pages of these guys going "you're so smart, daddy" "I'm so smart, you're a very smart dragon too" "yes, very smart" with a sprinkle of "can't think, am just a quirky little with troubles to remember things".
As we're already here: What in the whole world was that about? Why can't he remember anything? why can't this guy think anything beyond smart, hoard, beautiful, dragon and daddy? And please don't get me started on the word "cutie"...
I'm sorry but I've read literal pet play books where the pet had more thoughts and cognitive function in Scenes than Kenzie had when he was in a "big boy" mode(if that was even a thing because I'm pretty sure I can't tell you a single page that he acted out of headspace) and that was another thing: I couldn't figure out for the life of me why we had his pov?
Deputy Talon Winslow is pretty sure he’s protecting aliens and life there is never boring. He needs to find an armoured truck full of gold that has gone missing and there is a woman who floats off the ground when she sneezes. This new job of his pays too well to be that simple but he certainly hadn't expected glowing eyes and adorable littles who almost sparkle they're so fascinating. If aliens come in cute and kinky, does it matter they’re not human? Kenzie can't decide if the new deputy knows he's planning on keeping him and knows about dragons and mages but soon decides that it is not the most important question as when will he get to call him Daddy is more important.
This was an adorable story with a cute little one who was not human and a special Daddy who had no idea who or what lived in his local town. I loved their relationship and how Talon would try hard to rein in his boy but Kenzie was adept at telling him exactly why he had been a good boy and deserved to be rewarded. Kenzie was great at cooking cakes but not normal food which was bizarre but thankfully Talon could. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BSDM-like DDLB dynamic..
This book has got to be the cutest, sweetest, and most fun story about an adorable dragon Little and the Daddy he decides to keep - even if technically Daddies weren't hoard material and this Daddy thinks half the town is aliens! Kenzie just knows that the new deputy is meant to be his Daddy and it seems as if the feeling is mutual. Now Deputy Talon just has to navigate nosy town folks and figure out the mystery of his adorable cutie and then they can get to their HEA. After all, a town full of aliens isn't so bad - right? And what if it's something better than aliens? Dragons are better, aren't they?! No one writes Daddy/little stories like M.A. Innes and I am utterly enchanted with her paranormal age play series. First there were tentacles and now we have a giggly, dessert loving dragon Little and the completely unflappable human Daddy, that isn't going to let a little thing like wings and scales stop him from claiming his boy! This book is like the best hug and a bucket full of smiles all rolled up into one! I didn't want it to end and I can't wait for more books in this world. A thousand percent recommend! Brilliant!
I am a 50 years old vanilla, straight, married (for 37 years) mother and grandmother who is so in love with this series it's scary. I have always believed to each his own in politics, love and life in general. Even if I was slightly homophobic I would still read this series for the shear enjoyment of laughing out loud that I get from almost every page. I enjoy sarcasm and using it to make life less stressful just as this author does in every way with this series. Even the sex scenes have a humorous undertone that makes the entire "scene" worth reading. This is a lighthearted and easy pick me up read after a long week at life. The premise is just crazy enough to lose yourself in but gives you the insight to understand the lessons of trust and unconditional love expressed by the main characters. But my favorites are the nosey townspeople. I live and work in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range and let me tell you, this characterization is spot on. As an "outsider" who moved here from Southern New Jersey, I can relate to believing most of the town must be aliens...lol!
"Magic and Mayhem" is the first book in the Blue Ridge Magic series by MA Innes. It is sweet and sugary from the start. This is a book with the Insta-fated mates feel between the new human deputy daddy and the cute dragon little. This is a book and place where reality must be suspended. Things are picture perfect and good in this world. There is virtually no angst and everything feels too good to be true. It's actually great. Sometimes being able to escape to a place with super sweet, adorable and funny characters is needed. That place is this book and hopefully the rest of the series.
The relationship in this book is instant and there isn't much character development or depth. But, reading Talons... bemusement at the town and it's people and Kenzies exuberance over toys, sweets and his daddy is nice. It's a feel good book that is needed these days. I do wish there were a bit more of a difference between Kenzies little and big sides and a prequel novella or short story of Talons introduction to the town would be hilarious and so much fun.
When Talon moves to a small town to work as a deputy sheriff he doesn't expect to find people with glowing eyes, people that levitate when they sneeze and a boss that keeps exploding things. He thinks that he is surrounded by aliens. Kenzie really likes deputy Talon. They have amazing chemistry, he cooks for him and takes him seriously. The only problem is that Talon doesn't know that Kenzie is actually a dragon shifter.
I loved the small town setting and I found Talon's point of view really entertaining. It was very funny when he thought that everyone was an alien. I'm very curious to learn more about dragons and their history. Talon and Kenzie were sweet together and I liked their dynamic. Kenzie, and most dragons that were introduced in the book, were a bit eccentric and interesting and I'm looking forward to get to know them all. And Talon was very sweet and caring and accepting. Great world and great start to the new series. It was fun and I read it in one sitting.
Magic and Mayhem by M.A. Innes is a new series about dragons, Daddies/Littles, and mages. Deputy Talon Winslow moves to a small town in the Blue Ridge mountains and soon notices all the weird things happening. He chalks it up to aliens, but once he meets Kenzie he soon finds out that it is something much more interesting.
Kenize is a dragon looking for a Daddy. He meets Deputy Talon who is looking for a missing truck full of gold and knows immediately that he wants to add Talon to his hoard. I really liked these two together. They were sweet and so hot. Their first kiss was amazing. Talon was drawn to Kenzie and a relationship developed quickly. The whole town was invested in the relationship and I liked Kenzie’s friend group. I will love reading their stories as well.
I am excited to read more from this universe. I love the idea of a town that is sort of hidden from the rest of the world by mages and I hope we get to see more of them in the future. Great beginning to a new series.
Human Deputy Talon Winslow is fairly new in town. He knows something is not quite right but can't put his finger on exactly what it is.
Dragon Little Kenzie is adorable and I was immediately taken with him. He is a gorgeous contradiction of sweet innocence and cheeky hotness.
"We're going to sit in your living room and have drinks and talk to him logically. Then if he wants to see you shift, you can go outside and we'll be there to support him and make sure he knows you won't eat him." "Why would I eat him? Daddy is smarter than that. "I already told him I don't like wiggly food."
This is a super sweet feel good romance that had me smiling the whole way through. It was fun and funny with plenty of interesting townsfolk, friends and family that gave the story that little extra depth that I really enjoyed.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I think this is a somewhat niche Daddy/boy book, but it's one MA Innes excels at. As long as you go in knowing there's no angst and lots and lots of adorable silliness you should really enjoy it. This was a perfect Sunday read for me, though pretty sure the next book I read is going to have to be damn dark to counteract this sugar rush. The only issue I have with this book is a personal preference. Even as an adult Kenzie is at least half little, then when he actually is "little" he's like a toddler on candy. This is adorable, but I want him to be an adult more often. Especially when having adult conversations. One more pro- I appreciated the way the author dealt with dragons. It's a little different than most I read and was cute. I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
Talon knows there is something weird about this town that he is the new deputy for, but he isn't sure what exactly is different about this town. When he meets Kenzie while investigating a missing armor truck, Talon decides he doesn't care about all the weirdness he wants Kenzie to have as his little. Kenzie is a bit of a scatterbrain and can't decide if the new deputy actually knows about dragons and the mages. Kenzie doesn't care; he'd rather know when to call Talon "daddy" and if he can keep him.
Kenzie was so freaking adorable, and I just wanted to cuddle up to him and keep him forever. Talon was good at ignoring all the oddness and going about his day. It was fun watching the two talk circles around each other while still being able to get to know each other. I can't wait to see the rest of Kenzie's friends meet their matches.
A cavity-inducing sweet and adorable book with a surplus of comforting interactions. Kenzie was an absolute cinnamon roll of a dragon and little, his personality, dialogue, and even just the description of his actions had me smiling throughout the book. I personally am drawn to age-play for the caretaking interactions and luckily for me this book was chalk full of them, I also liked that there was nothing forceful or overly sexual happening when Kenzie was in little mindset as thats just not my thing. The talks around consent and boundaries were wonderful and I loved that the author included it at multiple points. Overall I'm really excited to see this series continues and I can't wait to read about Boyd and his librarian, and I'm really hoping we'll get to see Lorne find a Daddy shortly after that.
I've read "Little"-books before, and I've read this author before. So I did n't start this one not knowing what to expect. But this was just to much - the book is insanely cheesy and saccarine, the dialogues are so repetitive, it gets boring after a few pages. Kenzie actually even acts and thinks like a Little even when he is supposed to be grown-up. When he's little, he is reduced to no longer being able to talk in whole sentences. The whole book is completely concentrated on "Daddy is taking care of his cutie" and "I'm going to be the best little dragon for my Daddy". A few examples - the word "good" is 295 times in this book. "Cutie" 97 times, "cuddle" 32 times. Oh, and "Daddy"? 893 times. The idea of a whole village with dragons and mages was good, the execution was boring and I only finished by skipping through large parts.
So I'm not a big fan of BDSM and really not much of a fan of age play but I figured with the paranormal aspects I might like this one okay. Honestly, I hated it. It took me forever to get through this book. Firs t it drops you right into the story and I felt like I started in the middle of a series but no this is book #1. Secondly, Kenzie is a little and he is ALWAYS little in this book. You don't get to see him as an adult and worse you really don't see him act little other than the baby talk and a toy hoard. It was all tell and very little show. Third it's instant love - which I'm not a huge fan of. Fourth there's not much of a plot here and I was bored. If it wasn't for reading this for a challenge I would definitely have DNF. I rarely rate books 1 star but I found no redeeming qualities in this book.
