The Wraiths of Arjun

Rate this book
Tribute Day has come. For a century, the Kingdom of Mestria has oppressed the people of Arjun. Those who cannot pay the brutal tax suffer a grim enslavement, conscription, or imprisonment. As an Iron Baron, Rowan wants nothing more than to shield his tenants from the Mestrians' wrath and get through the tribute unscathed. But when he defies the Mestrian Enforcer who rules Arjun with an iron fist, Rowan learns that his actions have dire consequences for everyone around him.
Tahira yearns to explore the ancient magic that courses through her veins. Yet in her quest to hone her conjuring abilities, a secret she's kept from Rowan, she risks losing his affection if her deception is exposed.
Akaran, the wealthiest Iron Baron in Arjun, detests the Mestrians' tyranny. After the Enforcer levies a hefty tax on Akaran's estate, he makes a fateful decision, thereby signing his own death warrant. Only a handfast partnership with the devious but charming Marah can save his lands from falling into Mestrian hands.
When the Enforcer unleashes his savagery, Rowan and Akaran join forces in a daring plan to revive the legend of the Wraiths and rebel against the Mestrian regime. But beneath their iron masks lies a haunting if the uprising fails, they will all face the hangman's noose-or worse.

Disclaimer: I read this as an ARC. I will not put any spoilers, though.

The Wraiths of Arjun is an exciting, epic sequel to The Conjurer's Curse. It has all the adventure and magic you can hope for. The continued journeys of the characters is satisfying and engaging.

What I liked:
The characters are completely engrossing. The story pulls you in and invests you into the the lives of everyone. There is even a new character that is very charasmatic and enjoyable.

You need to grab a copy when it's available - it is a must. Really. December. Make a reminder on your calendar. You'll regret it if you don't.

The epic sequel to The Conjurer's Curse. Once again, Cotta's writing will pull you into her fresh new world. Another step in Rowan's journey and more depth added to Tahira and Akaran's characters; and of course the witty Ravel!

The world building and sensory details are beautifully written. For fans of epic fantasy this is a series you won't want to miss, and the good news is, there's more to come.

Roll on book three!

This second installment of the Iron Kingdom Series is even better than the first. The characters were electric and the tension was unrelenting— kept me on the edge of my seat. Rowan and Akaran are a FANTASTIC team as they dare to face their evil oppressors. I cannot wait for book three.

Book 2 was so just so *chef’s kiss* I absolutely loved the 1st book. The second one starts not long after the 1st one ends. Rowan is the Iron Baron who is fiercely protective of his tenants. Akaran is still stubborn and doesn’t think before he speaks and it finally catches up with him… to an extent… Tahira is wanting to learn more and dive deep into her conjuring roots but doesn’t know how without upsetting Rowan. We meet a new character named Marah who may be able to put Akaran in his place (believe it or not lol). But after a nasty run in with the prideful/ bully brute Mestrian Enforcer, Rowan is on the chopping block as well.

I loved the political aspect in this one. We learn more about the Mestrian and their unjust rule over the Shandarian people. What the enforcer does to a couple of tenants had me screaming at these pages. Dirtbag…

This book has the beginnings of war, speaking out against crimes that hurt the local people, unfair taxation, and one of the best plot lines that I have read in a long time.

This series is gearing up to become one of my top 5 favorite of all time.

Quotes:
Inscription: “Wraith, immortalized. A heart refusing to fail. Stand tall and resist”.

“The only place I ever wish to be is with you. Here in the arms of the woman who brought light and laughter back into my lonely life”.

“When sacrifices bit you like a storm, and the enemy destroys that which you hold dear, will you stand, or will you succumb?…… The storm always comes, and it shatters even the strongest stone”.

I cannot believe The Wraiths of Arjun is finally here (everyone can now obsess and be TeamAkaran with me 🤣)! I fell in love with this series and its wonderful cast of characters in book one, The Conjurer’s Curse, and boy do they not disappoint in book two! The Wraiths of Arjun is an extremely powerful story of what happens when two brothers are faced with injustices and have to decide whether to let their fear or hearts lead them. With its richly constructed world, expansive characters, and a plot that never lets off the gas, you—like me—will be unable to put this book down! This is a must-read for fans of immersive world-building and diverse character-driven books. My one question to the author—how long for book three 😅😅

An incredible sequel that builds on the foundation set in The Conjurer's Curse. You can feel the tension building between the Shandrians and the Mestrians through the narrative, resulting in an explosive conclusion that will leave you wanting (no, needing) so much more. Rowan, Akaran, and Tahira (still Bestgirl) all grow so much in this story, with each of them coming to terms with the sacrifices they must make for the sake of their people. Mara is a fun new addition to the team, as she brings significantly more banter and funny moments with just about everyone. As for Anson Grimaud, he is a terrible human and a formidable foe that will terrify you about as much as he terrifies the Shandrians. Yikes. Overall, can't wait for that Book 3!

The story continues and I was not disappointed! The Wraiths Of Arjun is the second book in The Iron Kingdom Series, following one of my favorite reads, The Conjurer’s Curse. With the epic adventures, a little love, and a whole lot of heart, I believe LOTR fans will eat this up!

Wow get ready! Book two The Wraiths of Arjun by Stephanie Cotta is filled with tension and unrelenting action! These characters will pull you into their lives and leave you wanting more. Loved the hooks in each chapter and I couldn't put it down. The world building was fantastic and I can't wait for book three!

Rowan and Akaran make a dynamic duo and there is such depth to these characters. Along with Tahira, Rowan's love, they take on an evil oppressor. Akaran causing havoc as usual, forces Rowan into a corner and he must act before it's too late. Will they finally be free of the tyranny? Filled with action, adventure, magic and so much more, you will not want to miss out!

Brothers Rowan and Akaran are at it again in this epic follow-up to THE CONJURER’S CURSE.

This story opens on tribute day, a dangerous day for the mine barons as they attempt to appease the volatile Enforcer - a man that plays by his own rules. Just when Rowan thinks he is in the clear, he draws the attention of the very man he has tried to avoid when he attempts to rescue his tenants.

As if that's not enough, Akaran makes his own split-second decision that will affect not only his own life but the lives of those closest to him as well.

These acts alone are enough to wreak havoc on their lives, but together, spell disaster for everyone. Will they bow down to the menacing overlords or rise together in resistance to take back their lands?

The author has created a fantastic world filled with characters I have grown to care about. Their latest adventures kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. I can't wait for book three!

If you love adventure, sweet romance, found family, and resurrected warriors of old, you will love this story.

The Wraiths of Arjun, the next book in The Iron Kingdom series is on point. Cotta builds the relationship between estranged brothers Rowan and Akaran, and it vibrates with conflict and longing.

Forced to unite, the brothers work to defend the long oppressed Shandrians. Cotta portrays the emotional vulnerability that comes with trusting another when instinct dictates otherwise. Rowan and Tahira’s relationship reflects the fear of letting someone into your heart. Tahira works hard to grow her skill as a conjurer, but her unguided practice could lead to devastating consequences.

After The Conjurer’s Curse, I was on Team Akaran. While reading The Wraiths of Arjun, I joined Team Rowan. But now, I’m declaring Team Ravel. I love his wit and sass! Rowan, though, still has all the strength of character of the first book, and maybe more.

Tahira shines in The Wraiths of Arjun, and her struggle to understand her gifts without losing herself and protect those she loves is real.

Stephanie Cotta delivered with this sequel. It is a fun, engaging, and compelling read with well-written scenes and vibrant descriptions. And the Citadel—breathtaking!

What a fantastic adventure to continue alongside this writer. Stephanie has done it again! She’s captured my heart with this series! Her Iron Kingdom series is one of my top picks to read not only for myself but to suggest to friends and family members who have young adult readers. I love the illustrations and the map in this book, adding in an even better feel of being alongside the characters. Having read the first book, I loved watching characters grow, but I also felt it wasn’t a requirement to be able to enjoy it. If you haven’t read Stephanie Cotta’s books yet, start. You’ll fall in love with her creativity, imagination, and writing styles. And if you’re not a Fantasy fiction fan, you’re about to be. I can’t wait for her next book to come out.

An absolutely great follow-up to The Conjurer's Curse! This book picks right back up in Arjun and starts adding layers of depth to the characters we met last time while exploring the lore of this world that Cotta is building.
Well developed conflict enriches the flow of the story and keeps you hooked.
As soon as I made it to the end, I was ready for he next installment.
