There's an old saying that one should be wary of opportunities that seem too good to be true. This adage rings true for Edward and Lydia, a young married couple who find their dream home, an old mansion the locals call Hangman Manor, at an incredible price. Lydia, a talented up-and-coming artist can't wait to start creating in this new location. But Harmon Manor harbors a dark secret. Within its storied walls festers the tortured soul of a heartbroken young man who died gruesomely and publicly within the house. When the tormented spirit starts to manifest itself through Lydia's artistic talents, Edward must enlist the aid of renowned psychic medium Michael Merlyn to exorcise this spirit before it drags his wife to hell.
I think this may have been the introduction to Michael Merlyn, the brash medium and exorcist, from another story. Edward and his wife Lydia have spent most of their time travelling reveling in their love for art. Lydia is a painter, and Edward a novelist of fantasy. Finally wanting to settle down they find a mansion to buy for an incredible price. If its too good to be true, it usually is. Nightmares and strange shadows plague the couple, and they soon discover the history of the mansion. I loved that this book had an incredible portrayal of mental illness. His expression for both anxiety and depression was spot on. I also loved the ending, wont give it away, but very awesome.
Throughout this story, I was leaning more toward a three star review. It's a good story, great audio narration, well written, but was typically average for the genre. The twist ending, however, came out of nowhere and left my mouth gaping open in shock, lol. Well played!! And jumping this one up to a 4 star for me!
I was very impressed by this book. I definitely did not see the ending coming. It may be a trigger for some people due to the subject of suicide but I felt that the subject was well written and handled very well
Gave up on this one. Dragged myself through first 40% but just couldn't force myself to finish. Slow start and so negative that I had to give up. Good luck if you decide to try this one.
I enjoyed the book. A different take on a common plot that worked well for a ghost story haunted house haunting. The characters were well written and I connected with the MMC.
Looking forward to reading something else from the author.
I was so happy to see Michael surface in this love triangle. The plot line was good and the resolution shocking. Great characters that took on mental health issues for the readers to learn from. Enjoyed the story.
I was so excited to see Michael back, I’ve fallen for him and love his character, can’t wait to come across more of his adventures. Brilliantly written Vincent, loved the whole story, Thank you once again.
There was definitely a twist I wasn’t expecting. But I loved it more for it. A nice read but would have enjoyed more interaction between the main characters before the haunting started. Just my 2 cents.
Nice little mystery, with an interesting twist at the end. Michael Merlyn from "Lies from Beyond", which is another really good book, makes an appearance.
