Romans 1:20 says God’s “invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature” show themselves in what he has created. Our national parks indeed are our “best idea,” as historian, writer and environmentalist Wallace Stegner noted, but they were God’s idea first! What’s missing from most books written about the national parks is a Christian perspective. And that’s a shame, considering that John Muir, the man called the Father of our National Parks, unequivocally and unapologetically linked the beauty around him with its Maker.
I enjoyed learning some new facts about the National Parks as I read this book. As a Christian Devotional I thought this book was well done and that the author had good insights on how to live a more Christian life. I do wish that there had been more of an even split between talking about the parks and sharing her insights. There were some chapters that I thought did this very well but there were some where the parks we only a few paragraphs at most. But overall, I thought the book was good and it does encourage us to take a look around us and learn from the beauty that God has created.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
This book is a combination of National Parks, History lesson, and daily devotions. I learned so much about some "back stories" of parks and the history connected to them as well as an analogy/comparison to Biblical events. It is a beautiful and memorable book which, if you like history and natural beauty, you will enjoy (and learn) from this book. I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publishers. My comments are an independent and honest review.
