Thank God for giving us Tobias’s POV along with Cecelia’s—didn’t know how much I wanted it until I got it.
We dive deeper into Tobias’s past and his thoughts in this book and I AM IN LOVE with the smug, angry Frenchman, this manipulative asshole with the suits and the diabolical plans and the fiery ember eyes and the tousled onyx hair and the FRENCH.
ugh. give him ALL TO ME.
for a while there, wasn’t quite sure where the book was headed?? A LOT HAPPENED. so much so that I was literally like... there is NO WAY that i’m barely halfway into the book and yet it feels like i’ve read an entire novel and then some.
progression was good—some parts slow, but all were still meaningful and contributed to his story and theirs as a couple.
i love getting to experience the camaraderie of Tobias and the birds—friendships and brotherhoods like that are always some of my favorite parts in any book I read.
this book offers greater insight to Tobias’s life—his childhood, how his years shaped his future, what he did between age 11 and 43. what he’s had to sacrifice for his family, for them to get to where they needed to be, the love he had for Dom, which cmon... SAD AND WORTHY OF TEARS. seriously. it’s a crime.
the last page and the last line of this book, itty bitty tears clouding my vision. No full on sobbing, but the ache was there, just like exodus.
Tobias and Cecelia was endgame for me the moment I started book 2. Literally, that first page. I was like OH YES PLEASE tell me this is going where I think this is going. AND THERE IT WENT FOR SURE.
some parts were cringe for me, but nothing of the secondhand-embarrassment sort.
this book has it all—a strong heroine, a villain turned hero turned villain and overall hot, smug asshole, friendships that endure years, LOYALTY AND LOVE AND TENSION AND SPICE. and also some humor that landed perfectly, so thanks for making me smile and giggle.
probably going to be one of my go-to series. they read SO SO FAST even though I said that it felt like i read two novels in one with this, but you get so invested with them, it’s hard to put down the book.
I especially loved that Cecelia put him through the ringer—that it wasn’t just this quick and easy let’s-push-everything-under-the-rug. No, she said WORK FOR IT MY GUY, especially if you want back in these (flannel pajama 😉) pants.
I am in love, I have been devoured, and if by the end of this review, you’re still wondering if you need to read the series?
I only have one word, 17 letters for you... ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY
ALSO OMG!! here’s a quote from one of my OG shows that’s literally stuck with me forever and definitely reminded me of the book:
“Some say ravens point travelers in the right direction. Some say a single raven is a sight of good fortune to come, but a sight of many ravens means trouble ahead.” TYSM Lucas Scott and OTH 😂🥰
Tobias and his boys? Definitely trouble 😉
