What I love is that you never know what you are going to get when you read one of this author's books. Opinionated, foot in mouth, no filter, no holds barred, divine sarcasm, lots of hilarity is what we get with her characters. But let's not forget the action, danger, suspense, and situations they get themselves into. I am never disappointed, and this one is just brilliant. I love that we get to have the adventure or misadventure, a HEA or not. Grab a drink or three and settle in for one of the best reads of your life.
Whilst previous books in this series don’t have to be read for this one to make sense it will give you a greater appreciation and understanding of some themes, scenes, and secondary storylines if you have.
Rating: 3/5 stars
Primary Tropes/Features: Security Romance, Ex military hero, On the run, He falls first, insta love
Secondary Tropes/Features: Life threatening health conditions
Safety warning/Triggers: Does contain spoilers.
Chase and Mercy’s book, for me, had a strong start. Their connection was instant and their similar sarcastic and stubborn ways made for humorous and quick witted banter that was easily thrown back and forth. The high stakes situation they found themselves in also showed their defining characteristics. Chase was the protector, a man who had given his life in servitude to his country and now lived to uphold the rights of protection of those who required it. Where Mercy was a free spirit, someone who wanted to live a life full of experiences after a childhood of containment secondary to her medical history and a job that took all her focus. These characteristics created circumstances where Chase and Mercy clashed but those along with their similarities solidified the connection they had with one another by showing a quickly developing mutual appreciation and respect. This was something I appreciated because their connection also created a burning desire and the presence of the insta-love trope which is something that I am often unable to get on board with. But thankfully they had their ups and downs because it showed that everything wasn’t instantly perfect and there were moments where how long they had known one another was commented on which gave them a sense of relationship development even if the love feelings were already there.
Like previous books in this series, the main characters spend a lot of time on the run from danger and in situations that leave them injured or close to death. It creates gripping storylines and compelling scenes especially when the teams of OPS are characters we’ve known for 18 books now. I again found my attention captured by these parts of the book however I do think they became such a focus that the character and relationship development fell to the side. As compelling as the scenes could be on Chase, Mercy, secondary characters, and the reader I don’t think we learnt anything more about Chase or Mercy or saw their relationship develop through it. Instead when they came out the other side and into the last 40% or so of the book it took a different turn that jumped straight into hard hitting truths and circumstances that tested characters in a new way without showing how their feelings got to the point they were now being depicted as. That isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy it because I did, and the latter part of the book had some of my favourite intimate moments between Chase and Mercy, it’s just after the strong beginning I was expecting more.
Chase is part of a team affectionately referred to as ‘The Young Squad’ and for avid readers of this series we know they are one of two teams who have faced particularly trying and emotional times that left individual members and the team as a whole broken in different ways. But seeing more of Chase’s team and their closeness was more than welcomed and I loved the focus given to Chase, Patrick, and Asher in this book. I enjoyed the updates of how they were and what was going on and they are a team at OPS that I’m desperate for more of. Other characters within the wider OPS company also got their moments in the spotlight and as always Fox stole the show but what stood out for me in this book with him is the continuation of hints about his and Nick’s history as Nick becomes a more prominent member of this cast of characters.
With a new definition of jungle fever, a reappearance of the great seating arrangement debate, and a much needed bro-hug ‘Left-Handed Monkey Wrench’ delivers a largely on the run romance full of action and suspense, and a connection that is hard to ignore.
Favourite Quotes: “Ugh! You’re so frustrating!” “I know. I tend to have this same effect on all women. It must be a personality issue.”
“A friend put me in my place. I didn’t want to make the same mistake he did.” “And what were those mistakes?” “Running away when things got hard. It turns out I’m pretty terrible at running away because the entire time I was gone, I was thinking about you.”

This is Mercy and Chase’s story. Get ready for a wild ride. Chase and team are on a mission that goes sideways right from the start. But while he is still working on the mission, he is feeling the pull to Mercy. Chemistry between these two is burning out of control. While on the run they must look out for each other not even knowing what is coming at them next. Can they come out the other side of danger with each other and in one piece or will they both lose something they were not prepared to lose?
This is Chase and Mercy’s story and from the very start Ms. Giulia takes us on a wild ride. Chase and his team are sent on a mission to retrieve two doctors, who are a part of Doctors without Borders, and are being held in the jungle by militant guerrillas. But on the way to the extraction point the group gets separated. Chase and Mercy are on their own. Their chemistry is off the charts but Chase knows he has to get the ailing doctor, Mercy, home. But once they are home and the doctor is on the mend, Chase returns home to OPS, knowing she’s better off without him. But staying away wasn’t possible. But when he returns, so do their troubles. Her apartment building gets blown up and once again Mercy and Chase are on the run. But from whom and why? Believe it or not, this is just the start of the book. From here their lives and their storyline take on a bunch of crazy twists and turns you’ll never see coming.
In true Giulia fashion, I laughed, swooned, cringed and feared for the couple and Chase’s team. The storyline is full of action, romance, suspense, and thrills. Another outstanding book in the Owens Protection Services series. If you haven’t started them, Oh My Goodness, all I can say is you really need to. They will keep you intrigued and entertained throughout the series. As for this reader, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This is the eighteenth book in the Owens Protective Services series, and it is a wonderfully wild ride with Chase and Mercy. From the beginning you are thrown into the action as Mercy and a fellow doctor are in the jungle working with Doctors Without Borders but sadly, have been taken and held captive by guerrillas. Chase, along with his team, are on the hunt to rescue them and bring them home. What should be a simple extraction becomes complicated as Chase and Mercy get separated from the team and are on their own until they can find a way to make contact and set up a new plan. These two have chemistry that could light up a city. Their banter is on point and will make you laugh. Mercy is a tougher than nails woman who has been through some challenging times and has come out stronger and better for those obstacles. Chase is Mercy’s match, but will he get out of his own way to claim her? Ms. Lagomarsino has once again delivered an outstanding storyline filled with drama, suspense, action, and plot twists that will have you gasping. She also brings attention to some real-life medical concerns making this book entertaining with an educational purpose. I recommend this book and the rest of the series.
I had to read this one twice as I blew through it so fast, that I knew I needed to go back and re-read it all.
As per Giulia's witty brain, this book does not disappoint. It has so many twists and turns from the very start of the book.
Chase and Mercy are thrown together as Chase and team are there to rescue both Mercy and another doctor. The guerrillas' that kidnapped them are holding them maybe for a ransom, but Mercy has no idea.
Chase gets Mercy out and together they are running through the jungle. Mercy has a medical issue, but Chase has no idea as she isn't sharing.
They end up getting lost and finally get rescued but no before Mercy gets really sick.
Chase feels he has let her down but also has developed deep feelings for her. He leaves her at the hospital and goes back to OPS. After some time, he realizes he cannot be without her and goes to find her.
There is an explosion at her apartment and her and Chase are plunged down a few floors. From there, Chase is sure someone is after him and they go on the run.
This book had lots of action, suspense, and plot twists that I never saw coming.
HOLY WOW! Left-Handed Monkey Wrench totally shocked the hell out of me completely so my mind was blown LOL! Mercy is a spirited doctor who Chase has been tasked to rescue, and from the jump, they just click so the sparks are flying like crazy. He's all in & wants to do nothing but protect her but since so many people in her life has tried to bubble wrap, well, he's in for a rude awakening as she leads him on a merry chase. They sizzle off the pages together when they have the time to light the sheets on fire but there's so much action going on, my heart rate was sky high as they were on the run. These two were perfect for each other but will they stay alive long enough to get a happily ever after? On top of this awesome couple, the supporting cast (OMG the new Fox) added in that special brand of hilarious moments & hijinks that this author excels at, plus all those twists to keep me guessing. I absolutely LOVED every minute of this book, and I know you will as well so please just hit those one click buttons as this author will not let anyone down with her excellence! HIGHLY HIGHLY HGIHLY RECOMMEND!
Love this series Chase and Mercy love story was magical. Chase on a rescue mission rescuing Mercy. They go on the run being hunted by a gorilla gang. They have an instant connection. On their journey to safety he learns she has a heart condition. They fall in love and have fun!!!
They connect once again the advenure begins Mercy's building explodes , steeling cars, car chases being on the run. It had everything, emotions OMG so strong pain hurt love joy fear trust laughter the unexpected. All felt. As always the OPS guys are so funny such characters. Very strong bond. Nice to have Asher in the story line my heart still feels for him . Cash as always great leader always looking out for his guys. A great sense of humour. The secondary characters bring such life into the stories making them so real. Mercy not giving up on Chase he would come back to her. Took care of him during his recovery. Once again Giulia you brought it all together. Thank you for a great series and sharing your talent. Look forward to the next adventures
This book through me for such a loop, that I'm still lost for words.
From the get go, Chase and Mercy's story had me hooked. It was fast paced, it was action packed and it had everything I wanted. There was never a time that I didn't feel invested in this story.
Chase carries a lot of guilt over what happened with Asher and Jade, which carries over into his interactions with Mercy. I think that he does see this as his chance to save someone when he couldn't save them.
Mercy has had to develop a strong personality to deal with all the people trying to smother her in love. She does find a balance in being strong-willed, while also knowing when to take direction.
Although the main question that I do have is "when will we get our Fox back?" While I do still find him an enjoyable character, I do miss how he used to be.
This series continues to provide unlimited laughs, giggles, sighs, and over-the-top entertainment as it progresses. As one of the "new guys" we met with Chase earlier in the series, this was his time to shine. He is sent to the jungle to rescue kidnapped Doctor Mercy. There is an instant attraction in Lagomarsino fashion, but then the "problems" hit. In the form of OPS, particularly the guys. In their usual hilarious manner, things go through their ups and downs, pranks, hijinx, and a bit of surprise. It all amounts to another hilarious, madcap, and fun adventure of flying bullets, wild beasts, explosions, and a whole lotta spice!
Thank you to the Author and Enticing Journeys for the advanced reader copy. These are my opinions.
Chase’s team have a mission, a mission with OPS where it should be simple but it never is. They have to complete a rescue. Never going well, the teams end up separated. They somehow have to make contact, and get home, but all this doesn’t stop the chemistry between Chase and Mercy. The problem, Mercy doesn’t tell Chase about her condition and Chase feels that he isn’t enough, he let her down, leaving her in the care of the hospital. Although Chase quickly realises that Mercy is the one and in true OPS form once it’s the one there’s no going back. It’s also where the chaos really starts. A building exploding starts the chaos, but sometimes things aren’t what they seem. Another great read of the OPS team.
Before I was through chapter one of Left-Handed Monkey Wrench I was completely hooked on this book! Guilia Lagomarsino weaves such brilliant tales that we readily sink into them, just following her lead, despite the possibility that she is weaving a crooked trail for us. It’s SO FUN to read her stories. After Chase and Mercy survive their harrowing jungle escape together they still need to run for their lives from an unknown threat. At the same time, they are falling in love with each other. This exciting book is fast paced, complete with danger, explosions and other thrills, so many unknown, dangerous events happening fast and furious, plus romance at its best. Just WOW!
This is the 18th book in this phenomenal series, and this is Chase and Mercy’s story. Chase and the team are sent into the jungle to retrieve two doctor’s who are working for Doctor’s without Borders and are being held in the jungle by guerrillas. Can Chase keep Mercy safe and protected when her apartment building is blown up? This is a well written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with humor, witty banter, danger, suspense, intrigue, undeniable chemistry, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, unpredictable twisted, thrilling, and steamy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Chase finds his match in a beautiful woman he rescued in the jungle. Unable to get Mercy out of his head, he tracks her down and makes her his. But danger seems to be lurking around every corner and soon they are on the run for their lives. He must protect her at all costs, but to do that he must figure out who is after her...or is someone from his past out to get him. Is this danger a string of scary coincidences, or is it real? To find out, he must team up with a friend from his past to sort it all out.
This author has written a book that I will probably reread again and again. The characters were outstanding their personalities were On. I read this story firing out where did I read this story figuring out where was going and then bam the author Does such a twist of the plot that was so unreal that had me reading deep into the night. The ending was pretty predictable but I tell you the middle and the ending part of this book will keep you on your toes. I've got to read more of this author's book
If you are able to suspend reality and common sense, then this is the story for you. For example, a woman is held hostage in the jungle for weeks but wants to have sex with her rescuer as soon as he sees her. Then, she is suffering from a heart condition, is dehydrated, and hungry and without her heart meds but she runs through the jungle, barefoot without food or water. Maybe if the author hard focused on making sense instead of sex, this story might have worked.
I chose this rating because this was actually a pretty good book. I enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of determination, compassion, kindness, hallucinations, intrigue, mystery and also following in love. I enjoyed Chase and Mercy story. I think the author did a great job putting these characters together. The way that they both protected each other was really amazing. She was there for him while he was going through his toughest time and his teammates were there as well. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers.
One thing I learnt very early on with this author is to never let your guard down and nothing is as it seems. This book is the epitome of that and deserves all the stars which is why it was added to my top reads list. It would of happened without the twist, but with it it was a no brainer. This book needs to be read to be believed, so I'm purposefully keeping my review vague.
I honestly believe that this is my favorite book of the OPS Series!!! I loved the story and I kind of had an idea of where it was going, but as usual I just can't figure out the mind of Giulia. Chase and Mercy were great characters and boy, was the chemistry smutty and good. Loved it!!!!!
You would think after this many books that things start to slow down, well you are totally wrong! The stories keep coming and the adventure keeps going. Absolutely love it. From the first chapter to the last you will be hanging on waiting to see what’s happening next. Don’t try to predict what’s going to happen bc you will be wrong! Twists, turns, adventure, laughs, romance…. It has it all!
"Simply perfect! The easiest way to describe Chase and M's story. Form the very beginning everything went down, chaos was everywhere and the unexpected kept happening. We you just want to let it go but life keeps throwing you back there's a sign. Add the characteristic style of Gulia funny and sassy characters with the most random thoughts that you just can help but fall in love!!!"
This is Chase and Mercy‘s story and what a wild ride it was. It was a page turner right from the very start and hooked you in from the beginning, Instant attraction between the two main characters and then the OPS guys bring all the problems with their witty banter, another great book in this series
This is not a stand alone, you must read these in order. As aLways Guila gives us a book with twists, turns, action and a little romance. Will Chase grab on to the women he is falling for or push her away when all it's not what it seems?
Ok this book was like none of the other books in this series. I loved the book and I can say, is just be prepared because I was not expecting the direction this book went. Don't get me wrong, it was really a good book. Mercy and Chase were really good for each other.
Wow is all I can say. This book has you on edge from the start. Chase and Mercy’s story is both heartbreaking and beautiful. This was a story I couldn’t put down til it was done. Can’t wait to see what’s next in the ops world.
This story was so good. I found it a paced roller-coaster ride. The action was non-stop. The twists and turns and surprises were mind-bending. I loved the relationship between Mercy and Chase. The chemistry between them was fun, heartwarming, and sexy. ❤️📖❤️
Left a handed Monkey Wrench, Owens Protective Services, Book 18
This was an incredible story with some twists that I never a coming. Of course there was plenty of witty banter between all the OPS employees. Mixed with a good dose of humor, I couldn't put this book down.
This book held me spellbound throughout. It has so many plot twists and turns, I couldn't predict what would happen next. It has the best surprise ending ever. I highly recommend this book.
