Another 5 star for this author!! I absolutely love these guys. I’ve been waiting to see how Dash’s story would turn out and it did not disappoint. him and Laura are on a roller coaster with dealing with how they feel. Miscommunication and not talking to find out how the other feels really causes for a lot of laughs. I really thought Dash was going to strangle Brock. There’s so many laughs in this book, I could not put it down!
What I love is that you never know what you are going to get when read on of this authors books Opinionated, foot in mouth no filter, no holds barred, divine sarcasm, lots of hilarity is what we get with her characters. But lets not forget the action, danger, suspense and situations they get themselves in. I am never disappointed and this one is just brilliant. I love that we get to have the adventure or misadventure, a HEA or not. Grab a drink or three and settle in for one of the best reads of your life.
Primary Tropes/Features: Close proximity, Ex-military hero, Slow burn, Miscommunication (leading to the friend zone),
Secondary Tropes/Features: Security romance, Friends to lovers, Surprise/Accidental pregnancy (confirmed near the end of the book but you might spot it earlier)
Safety warning/Triggers: School shooter (1 chapter, minimal graphicness, no death or injury except to the shooter), Gun related violence, kidnapping, death (1 scene over quickly, not graphic).
Free Fire Zone delivers a story tamer than most in this series with a slow journey to a relationship with plenty of missed opportunities.
Dash has been a fairly prominent figure in this series so far with his role in IT and fierce rivalry with Rae and his book is finally here. Like most guys at OPS he had a protective and confident personality and the camaraderie amongst the men he has worked with for a long time created plenty of opportunities for hilarity and silliness to appear especially when the love sick declarations began. He’s a character that desperately wants to be seen as more and accepted by Laura and those who he works with and their families but it didn’t come off in a tedious “pick me” kind of way which made his characters likeable. For anyone that has read Giulia’s books knows that her tougher than tough ex-military men are all boys at heart with the teasing, insane antics, the whining, and sappy declarations they all seem to make at some point and Laura fits with this perfectly. She was accepting of Dash and his quirks but also the kind of person to comment on how ridiculous he was being and put him in his place - and honestly some of the men in this series need that occasionally. She was a kind character whose internal monologues and discussions with herself were at times entertaining and showed her personality well. I appreciated her friendship with her roommate Lee and the dynamic created from Laura’s more sunshiny ways to Lee’s chronic pessimistic outlook on everything.
Dash and Laura shared a fiery attraction from the start but a mutual misunderstanding of signals led to them both believing they’d been friend zoned. Their story then became a multitude of roadblocks due to misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and falsehoods due to hiding aspects of their lives. Throughout this all the sparks did not stop flying and the frustrations from hiding their true feelings whilst in close proximity increased and the resulting horniness from sharing the same place led to a lot of self love to try and get through it all. The pacing of their romance development on a whole worked for me, the tamer storyline and push and pull was enjoyable and I kept wanting to read but there were a few moments when I wished things would pick up and more progression would happen faster.
For those who have read every book of this series we know there is a secondary character who Dash needs to mend his relationship with. Since Dash ruined his first meeting with Cotton way back in the earlier books he’s been looking for a way to mend the relationship and he finally gets his chance to do so here. Cotton’s list of 17 steps to earning his forgiveness was hilarious and once again I couldn’t get enough of Dash trying to impress Cotton and I really hope we continue to see more of these two interacting. Another secondary character I loved in this book was Brock. We saw and learnt a lot more about him as he and Dash were roommates and I loved their dynamic. The friendship and teasing had that great mix of general fun and Giulia style humour from some of the most ridiculous things - pairing these together really worked. I can’t wait to read Brock’s book.
With roommate antics, a mobility scooter race, and a lot of self love, ‘Free Fire Zone’ delivers a slightly slower paced story between two sexually frustrated individuals who haven’t realised the attraction is mutual.
Favourite Quote: “You know when you’re decorating for Christmas and you find that one tree that lights up your house and makes everything homey and just right… Laura is my Christmas tree.” “I know I’m going to regret asking this, but what are the ornaments on the Christmas tree?” “Those are pieces of her personality - each one unique and shiny.” “And the garland?” “Those are her tits.” “Obviously,” he said, his eyes widening comically. “And the lights?” I sighed, resting my chin in my hand. “Each light a special part of her heart. And if you get those color-changing lights, it shows off her mood.”
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first: In The Trenches: An OPS Protector Romance Novel (Owens Protective Services Book 1) Nuclear Option: An OPS Protector Romance Novel (Owens Protective Services Book 2) Charlie Foxtrot: An OPS Protector Romance Novel (Owens Protective Services Book 3) Pop Smoke (Owens Protective Services #4) Alpha Mike Foxtrot (Owens Protective Services Book 5) Got Your Six: An OPS Protector Romance Novel Full Battle Rattle (Owens Protective Services Book 7) Embrace the Suck (Owens Protective Services #8) Assume the Position (Owens Protective Services #10) Soup Sandwich (Owens Protective Services #11) Secret Squirrel (Owens Protective Services #11) Self-Licking Ice Cream Cone (Owens Protective Services, #12) Pucker Factor (Owens Protective Services #13) Blowed Up (Owens Protective Services #14) Balls to the Walls (Owens Protective Services #15) Bite the Bullet (Owens Protective Services #16)
This is Dash’s story. He is attracted to Laura right from the start, but he thinks she is taken. When she needs a place to stay, he allows her to stay at his place. This causes all kinds of issues for him. Be in close quarters and crushing on her he is going a little crazy. His friends have a lot of fun with that. You can always count on the security guys for some great laughs. Can he get Laura to fall for him in the end? After all she is single and when he finds out he makes the most of that.
I have been patiently waiting for Dash's story. Everyone else is getting their HEA, and we know that will be hilarious as all Giulia's stories have lots of humor.
This story starts with Dash buying a house and Brock is his roommate. They are bringing in furniture and start with the couch. It ends up just sitting in the doorway for the interim.
They decide to leave it as is and head to the grocery store. There Dash sees a beautiful woman in the grocery store and proceeds to help her pick out the perfect steak for her to make for a man. Of course, Dash thinks, of course she is taken.
He meets Laura again after a tornado goes through their town and Ops is assisting with cleanup and finding survivors. Laura is in the basement with shampoo in her hair and only a shower curtain covering her.
He is immediately attracted to her but knows he is on the job. Both Laura and her roommate Lee end up staying at Dash's house as theirs is destroyed by the tornado.
There is lots of sexual tension between the Dash and Laura due to a misconception on Dash's part via Brock that Laura only wants to be friends.
This book is full of hilarious sections and may be a bit uncomfortable for some readers.
Overall, this book was fun to read and entertaining all around.
This story was a page-turner for sure because it was downright hilarious and so funny when laughing it brought us to tears sometimes we just couldn't stop laughing then stopped and started again.
This book was tamer than most in this series and it seemed like forever for this couple to realize that they were into each other, the constant miscommunication seemed to go on forever between the couple but, that is what made this story so fun with so many laugh-out-loud moments.
The side characters spiced things up in this story Lee, Brock, and of course Edith Omg! She was the bomb! Loved Edith's infectious personality.
The advice from the team regarding relationships was comical and that saying you have to build the fire came up again and always makes us laugh.
Dash was a riot all off-kilter, kept messing things up which cracked us up. Laura was already making us laugh out loud from the very first chapters it was easy to fall in love with her. You will love this one with its witty and bantering characters, the laugh-out-loud moments, Brock's current conquest the small surprises that pop up the bit of drama that arises. The ending was perfect until next time and we can't wait this story was highly entertaining.
It seems like I say this with every book, but it’s worth repeating: “I just love the guys and gals that make up Owens Protective Services” and the books in the series just keep getting better. In Giulia’s usual writing fashion, I laughed to the point of tears at times and simply held on for dear life at others (especially when Fox enters the picture - if you’ve read the series you know what a lovable zany guy he is). The book is laugh out loud funny and full of lots of miscues, misdirections and extremely embarrassing situations - like not only getting caught in a tornado while in the shower but being rescued while wearing said shower curtain by the Hot guy you just met at the grocery store. Oh and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Their banter is off the charts, their zany friends only make matters worse and well, that’s all I can say without totally ruining this one. TRUST ME, you just need to grab it up and enjoy it.
My only question is what in the world is Giulia going to do to be able to do next to top this all out hilarious storyline involving the sexy, alpha teams that work at OPS.
I'm in awe when it comes to Giulia Lagomarsino's talent as she is brilliant at coming up with new things for each story so I'll never ever get enough. This story is so much fun and had me laughing like crazy all the way through as Dash & his sidekick Brock were out of control hilarious. Dash is attracted to Laura when they come face to face for the first time in the grocery store but he really believed she was taken. The second time they come face to face still has me laughing, and I won't give it away because it's more fun when you don't know ahead of time. She ends up staying with Dash after she loses her house in a tornado, and the sparks are flying between them, however, both think the other only wants to be friends, so neither are communicating that fact to the other making for an insane push & pull. These two are absolutely perfect for each other but it took them forever to ever cop to the feelings for each other (it didn't help that Brock was giving crazy advice LOL). I'm going to be entertained by this story for a very long time, and it's on the top of the list to reread when I have a bad day! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Have you ever heard of Gene Pitney's old song "True Love Never Runs Smooth?" Well that song title perfectly describes whats happening in this book and gives those words new meaning. There is so much angst in Free Fire Zone (OPS 17) by Guilia Lagomarsino mixed together with the usual Owens Protective Operations dangerous daily work and combustive activity. This book contains every love and sexual feeling known to mankind. Then there are misunderstandings of who to live with, misreading about who will make the best partner, insecurity about who to trust, misinterpreting body language and advice from friends, frustrations that are increasing from trying to hide true feelings and falsehoods building up from hiding who you really are and lying about what you really do. No matter what was happening at the moment, it seemed to turn out to be a roadblock to true love. Number 17 of the OPS series is a fun and very entertaining story to start off the new year.
Giulia continues to have me rolling on the floor, laughing at the ongoing hijinx of the OPS guys. Honestly, sometimes I don't know how they do what they do so effectively when some days they can't seem to fight their way out of a paper bag....or move a couch out of a doorway. I must say pairing Brock with Dash was super hilarious; it was like they had one brain. Trust me, and that was generous. Laura is adorable and the perfect foil for Dash (who is really quite a bit of a nerd under all the OPS muscle), and the inability of both to communicate effectively only added to the crazy. Side characters were the perfect offset to the sweetness of Dash and Laura, and it only made the story that much more hilarious. Dash really tries to give off the "pick me" energy, he so wants to be accepted and be "cool". He's quite cute. And his ongoing pursuit of the approval of Cotton only makes me laugh harder. This series can only get better and I am here for the ride.
I always forget how funny this author's books are. I mean they are truly laugh out loud, people look at you like you're crazy if you're out in public. I would love to meet this author and just sit and talk with her because man, what a sense of humor.
Dash cracks me up and Brock just eggs him on. Those two together just had me rolling. When Dash met Laura he thought she was the most beautiful woman ever. Unfortunately Dash is under the impression that she has a man and it just about broke his heart.
Laura comes to stay at Dash's house, he's trying to help her out until she gets another house lined up. The chemistry between these two is soooo hot but they both think the other just wants to be friends. I'm telling you, you need to read this book and see what happens to these two. You won't be sorry and you'll have a smile on your face!
OMG the back and forth between Brock and Dash in the beginning of the book had me laughing alot in certain parts of the first half of the book. The second half of the book dealt with signs from the opposite sex being observed and not how Dash and Laura were thinking the meant. So through the rest of the book, we go on a rollercoaster ride on how these two feel about each other and how it builds up, but how they also were still reading the signs wrong. When they do figure out that they both have feelings for each other, it takes a dangerous situation for them to finally come together and admit that they love each other. This was an excellent book and I'm glad Dash finally got his HEA also.
I think that this was one of the sweetest books in the OPS series so far. . Or as sweet as an OPS book can get.
This story follows Dash, who is one of the resident IT experts at OPS and Laura, a schoolteacher who lives with her doom and gloom roommate Lee.
Hilarity and confusion unsues when Dash and Laura are thrown together because of a tornado that whips through their town.
What I loved about the book was that this was essentially a friends to lovers romance that did not take years of them being friends to suddenly being romantically involved.
What was a bit off putting was all the wrong advice these two received from their friends. But other than that, I really did love the book and I'll be reaching for this one again.
This is Dash’s book and it’s iffy he’ll get a HEA. Men are so stup!d and I truly wanted to hit Dash, aka Luke, up side the head with a 2x4 numerous times. Of course I felt the same about Laura a few times too. Dash rescues Laura after a tornado leaves her trapped in her basement in only her shower curtain. She flirts but gives him a fist bump to the shoulder which men equate to be friend zoned. Neither want it but don’t speak their minds even though she sleeps in his bed every night and ends up wrapped around him. No explosions in this one but there’s a cougar mother figure, a chronically depressed roommate, lots of laughs, s€xual frustration and a couch stuck in the door.
The crazy starts early with Dash and Brock on the move to get to pick a pool table first with Dash ignoring the tornado warning. In the aftermath Dash is surprised to steak girl. He knew she was cooking steak for a man and didn’t think anything else, finding a woman he was attracted to be taken. Laura’s trying to cook for her returning friend, who she sees as only a friend no matter what everyone else says. Running to the basement in a shower curtain after a tornado warning wasn’t how she thought her day would go. Seeing steak boy recusing her in a shower curtain also wasn’t. With the house being destroyed Dash being who he is offers them somewhere to stay. It doesn’t matter how hard it is for him she’s taken. When he finds out she’s not taken everything changes.
This is the 17th book in this phenomenal series, and this is Dash and Laura’s story. Dash has bought a house, and Brock is his roommate, who is helping him move in, and these two are hilarious together with their crazy antics. Laura and Lee move into Dash’s after a tornado hits. No spoilers, this is a must read! This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with humor, witty banter, crazy antics, romance, tension, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, unpredictable, and steamy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is the seventeenth book in the Owens Protective Services series and it is a laugh out loud riot with Dash and Laura. Poor Dash, no one wants to be friend zoned but when the object of your affection is under a misconception what can you do?... Let her move in with you when she needs a place to stay. This may not be the smartest play and could cause Dash to learn some new coping skills but if all goes well, wouldn’t the win be worth everything if he could get Laura to fall for him? Adding to the fun is the insertion of Dash’s friends making appearances to boost the levity making this one enjoyable read.
There was a part of this book I found frustrating.they are grown men are they really that clueless and really they know how dangerous the world is would they really leave front door open with a sofa in it? There was two parts I burst out laughing. Andrew and Dash packing underwear (would love to see them buddy up more, maybe dash has a sister) This books is about Dash it is a enjoyable read but for me I don't like the let them think I'm sleeping with someone else or the push and pull.I'm a romantic.I thought there was no action in this one but a little one was there that took me by surprise
This has got to be the slowest of slow burns! Dash & Laura have friend-zoned each other—both of them terrible at reading signals! This leads to a lot of laughs as the OPS team and Laura’s friends provide unhelpful advice on what to do. These two had me shaking my head, everyone sees what’s happening but them. There’s also some action and a bit of relationship mending going on, adding some excitement to this story.
The first time that Dash comes to Laura’s aid it is to help her pick a steak however due to a misunderstanding he believes that is all they will have. The second time he rescues her is when a tornado leaves her homeless and he has a place for her to stay.
Laura has feelings for Dash however his actions have her doubting he feels the same way let the fun begin!
Humorous banter, a little suspense, and friends who despite their good intentions may be more of a hindrance than a help.
This was an interesting story. It wasn't your typical OPS book, but still had you laughing so much. I couldn't put book down once started.
I loved Dash and Laura together, they both had feelings, but they kept thinking the other didn't like them. Some of the situations both get in is funny, but also frustrating for them both. When they finally get together they make a great couple.
Another stellar novel by Giulia. Everytime that I finish one of her books I can't wait to read the next one. This one was no different with Dash and Laura story. It was on point with the banter and the hilarious timeline and events that occur, as well as the continuations the character and how the series as it has played out. I can't wait to dive into the next book by Giulia.
I chose this rating because this was a pretty good book. I enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. This was a book of consideration, determination, compassion, determination, acceptance, infatuation, and getting your wires crossed. I enjoyed Dash and Laura story. I think the author did a great job with putting these characters together because they both were intriguing and confused. Pretty good read. I recommend this book to all romance readers.
Lack of communication and false assumptions lead to a comedic love story in Free Fire Zone. Dash and Laura both have a very hard time coping with the feelings they have for each other leading to some very hilarious and uncomfortable situations for those around them. Another incredibly entertaining book in the OPS series.
After reading this book, I've come to wonder how in the world the guys at OPS can even get a woman. LOL!! Dash and Laura's story is so whacked out, and if Dash wouldn't listen to the guys and Laura would get out of her head then they might have saved themselves mass amounts of sexual frustration. And never in my life have I ever heard of unconscious f-ing, but it makes sense in Giulia's books.
Have you ever been bff's with the man or woman of your dreams? Thus is the adventurous case of Laura and Dash. Can these two ever move past their friends terrible advice and observations? Or will they forever remain the bff's that they've made themselves. Find out for yourself through the adventure, danger, and obvious lust!
This is Dash's story, I could not put down I laughed, cried and just about fell out of my chair. Favorite part the the shower curtain scene. I don't know where Giulia comes up with these stories but they are not like anything I've read before but it's a good thing. I love her writing and her characters are great too. Can't wait for what adventures are coming our way
I was not as pleased with this book as the others. It still was funny, but there wasn't much interaction with the others. There were also some mistakes in the writing that is not normal, and I really wanted more action stuff. The romance thing went on to long also. But I still love this series and can't wait for the next one.
Another fantastic book in OPS series!! This book had me laughing out loud throughout the entire book. This book has action and some steamy scenes but it is a slow burn. The way Giulia is able to weave in other OPS characters and 'side' stories into her books amazes me. I am looking forward to reading the next book to see how the OPS adventures continue!
I can't believe how much fun this story is. It had me laughing like crazy all the way through as Dash & Brock were out of control hilarious. Laura and Dash are awesome together but are constantly misunderstanding and talking/feeling past each other ( with the well intentioned but misguided help of their friends of course). Definitly worth the read.
