The nerd.

That’s what I’ve always been. The quiet, shy girl that liked school and wasn’t part of the popular cliques. I found science and math more mentally challenging than memorizing cheer and dance routines, and that didn’t earn me any social points in high school. I was too pretty for the brainy boys and scared away the jocks. I was the girl in between. And it sucked. I had so much to offer and no one to experiment with. Getting drunk by raiding my parents’ liquor stash with my best friend didn’t count. My lack of social life wasn’t because my parents kept me under lock and key. My mom tried to nudge me to participate in class events. She even suggested parties. I was terrified.

College—my fresh start. I was determined to lose my shyness like a layer of skin. I was ready to come out and experience everything life had to offer. No one would know me at a culturally diverse university.

Then I met my new best friend. She was identical to me, but then so different. Smart. Beautiful. Outgoing. A web development major. I became the test subject in her group project—a social media site for those looking to partner up. One place for those of all interests to come together. The success of your match came down to the profile. What better place to come out of my shell than behind a screen. I set one up.

He was everything and more. Smart. Driven. Sexy. A domineering personality. It didn’t even bother me that he was older. He was okay with us taking things slow. Working our way up from a simple email to the Candy Cam aspect of the site. It was perfect. But online never stays online for long. He wanted to meet. I didn’t. I was so confident online, but in real life I was quiet and awkward. Then my roommate invited me home for the weekend.

That perfect man—turns out he’s my roommate’s dad.

PLEASE THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY A KINDLE VELLA STORY.

I found books when I was going through a hard time in life. They became my means of escape when things got bad. I realized quickly how much I loved to take a backseat to someone else's life and watch the journey unfold. That began my journey with books in November of 2012. I constantly had a book open on my Kindle app. Never in a million years would I have imagined myself as a writer, because I never thought I was creative enough. I'm living proof that things will fall into place when they're meant to be. People will make their way into our lives when we don't expect it, setting the path for what we are meant to do. Never give up on people. Never stop taking a chance on others. Someone took a chance on trusting me with her work when she didn't know me from a stranger on the street and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime as our relationship progressed, which led me to editing and writing as well. This is my dream I never knew I had. As soon as I sat down and gave writing a shot, it was like the floodgates opened. Now, I am lost in a world of fiction in my head, new characters constantly screaming for their stories to be told. Continue to dream and to go for them. No one ever found happiness by sitting on the sidelines. Sometimes we have to take risks and put ourselves out there. Thank you for all of your support, and may there be many books to come. XOXO- C

I would like to give myself a star for trying to read out of my comfort zone. But I admit at the 40% mark I decided to dnf. But if I dnf I felt everything I read would be in vain. And I need to know what happened in the end. So I skipped to about 90%. And honestly it's the best thing I did. I saved myself so much frustration and ridiculousness!! So here the thing, Spoiler following!!

I would see this book appear on the kindle store, and would avoid it bc it was a single dad trope. (Now, adoptive single parents tropes are great!! To bad those are a rare) Until one day, I decided to give it a go, and when I rented the book, I dare say I was a bit excited. Unfortunately at 2% into the book, I was reminded why I heavily dislike single dad tropes. Then by 10% I was sure I would finish the book not bc I cared for the love story at all. BUT because I was curious to see the heroine and her journey, I wanted to see what would be of her. I was rooting FOR HER!!

Unfortunately I was not a fan of the book, Heroine nor the hero. Lake was such a turnoff, I could go on and on as to why I hated him but a few points were:
He claimed to not be a manwhore yet he was. He was unprofessional as a CEO (he would fuck his coworker during lunch time). He was immature. He literally said his coworker/fuckbuddy was an accountant and he thought she was really good at her job he could literally see her as a CFO BUT he didn't want to work closely to her, so he didn't give her the position.

"The woman annoys me to no end when she gets clingy, which always follows sex, but she lives on her own, has her own career, and is damn good at her job in accounting. I’d consider her for my old position as CFO, but I don’t want to work that closely with her or I’d never get away from her."

Now bc I skipped, I'm not sure what the coworker was really liked, but I do know he would fuck her and leave her, though he never tried to be romantic with her. But as a women can you blame a women for trying for more if you're single and he's also single, handsome, and daddy's money rich? Its call shooting shots and hoping for more lol.

He was also petty. He would rant over and over how his bitchy ex screwed him over, (it takes two to tango, if you don't love your partner then don't have unprotected sex at all) AND!! FOR SOMEONE WHO IS SUCH A GREAT DAD, HE DOES NOT CARE TO WEAR A SEATBELT!!!

"Even with it dark in the cab, I don’t miss the smile as he shifts into drive and pulls forward, without his seatbelt fastened. It takes about twenty minutes with traffic before he makes a turn into a large hotel."

UMMM EXCUSE ME?! ARE CAR EJECTIONS A JOKE!! THIS BOOK WAS TIRING AND LONG TO READ MUCH LESS ENJOY.

So I skipped from 40% to the 90%-ending mark. It was after all for my mental well-being, and curiosity. Soooo!!!! Heroine was immature, naive, and honestly disappointing. Hero kept saying you're young, I don't want kids, excuses excuses, etc.

"I applaud Kaysea for standing her ground even though it scares the hell out of me to think about starting over at my age, or older, to give someone every part of me this late in life, but I’ll give her those things before I let someone else. Trusting a woman with my cum is no easy feat when I’ve been betrayed that way before, yet it took no time at all for me to stop using condoms with her, to stop pulling out. My behavior has made it obvious that I’ve developed some weird kink about it."

But here's the twist, he ended up knocking her up on purpose, hmm?! It reminded me almost like HIS BITCH OF HIS EX HE HATED SO MUCH?!? YUP!!

“I don’t understand. Switched them to what? What have I been taking?” “A twenty-eight-day supply of placebo pills instead of the hormones. You haven’t been on birth control in three months, when I started filling them for you.”

THIS BOOK WAS JUST FRUSTRATING LONG!! And their love wasn't really lovey.

Those who are curious about epilogue: .

I tried to finish but I was tired of seeing a couple of things:

I know everyone will have different opinions about how mature one is at 18 but the fact that the female lead is aware she is not allowed to drink (like most adults, and in this case, the male lead) it was annoying her continuing to ask his daughter (who is the same age as her) whether they should be allowed to do certain things and yet when she spoke with the male lead about their relationship she’d tell him that she can make decisions with herself and she’s essentially an adult. Idk it’s kind of contradictory seeing her act like they’re children with his daughter and act like an adult with him.

Lake (male lead) is very unprofessional. We get a backstory of the things he’s done with his coworker and scenes where they interact after they no longer do the things they do. I’m just annoyed that he’s annoyed that he finds her clingy. I don’t blame her for trying to make what they had an actual relationship. She’s a single mother with a child and Lake says she’s good at her job.

I swear they just kept REPEATING the same thing just different words EVERY CHAPTER.

After like 70% I was so frustrated with it that I didn’t want to finish but after a couple of days of reading other books I came back and tried to finish it because I dislike not finishing books. BUT NOPE. Could not force myself.

I found out through the comments he ends up knocking her the same way his ex did???? Excuse me sir, did you not hate your ex because of that exact same reason and yet here you are????

I don’t dislike the book because of its genre nor trope. I’ve just read similar books that are better 🤷🏻‍♀️

Author Charisse Spiers puts a different spin on the best friend’s dad trope. In “Candy Cam,” there are 3 POVs: Kaysea (FMC), Lake (MMC), Kaysea’s best friend, and Lake’s daughter Bristol. Kaysea and Bristol are 18-year-old college friends and roommates, too.

Kaysea has social anxiety that impacts her self-confidence, which has made dating quite a hindrance. Her best friend signs her up for a dating site, Candy Cam. Unbeknownst to Kaysea, Bristol also has her dad sign up for the same site to encourage him to start dating. Kaysea and Lake somehow find each other and start texting and dating. What initially would be something light and casual evolves into something deeper. Lake has strong trust issues, though, that stem from his situation with Bristol’s mother.

I loved how Kaysea and Lake’s story developed and how Bristol handled things when she discovered their relationship. The spice scenes were great and included some br33ding-ish - I say ish because Lake struggled with wanting things to happen and didn’t want to stop, but then would be upset with himself for thinking it. There was an entire bit of cvm play, though.

I enjoyed the story, and the epilogue was beautiful as well

👩‍💻📖✨ "Candy Cam" is a book about Lake and Kaysea who meet through a dating app 💻💘 that Bristol (Lake's Daughter 👩 and Kaysea's roommate 👯‍♀️) asked them to join.

Kaysea is a loner 🚶‍♀️ with self-esteem issues 😔 but Lake brings out a confident, bold side of her 💁‍♀️🔥 and Lake finds himself wanting things he has never before. 😍 Lake struggles with his attraction to Kaysea as she is his daughter's best friend and roommate, but as soon as Bristol figures out that they both had matched, she was very supportive and mature about the turn of events. 👏👍

I loved the story from start to finish and it's amazingly written. 👌🔥 I would love to read Bristol and Collin's story ❤️❤️

Tropes:
🔺 Age Gap Romance
🔺 Single Parent Romance
🔺 Friends to Lovers
🔺 Forbidden Romance
🔺 Dating App
🔺 Nerdy Heroine

I give this book a 3.25. I really enjoy a good age gap romance and this book was no different. I loved how the FMC and MMC met through his daughter because of her recommendation of signing up for an online dating website that she created with her group. I loved reading about how the relationship developed and how the characters developed along the way. I personally felt like the spice took up a lot of the book when the FMC lost her virginity, but it didn’t take up a good portion of it unlike so books. Overall the book was good and I would recommend to people.

First off I’m in love with Bristol’s name. I wanted to name my daughter Bristol but husband said no.
Second-you knocked it out of the park!
I love the relationship Lake & Kaysea has.

I came across this and wasn't so sure how I'd feel about it. It was just a suggestion on my Kindle... but it is such a good book!! Very well written! Will be reading more books by Charisse Spiers since she knocked it out of the park with this one!

Age gap romance. Student older man. Their story was very sweet and relatable. It is mostly from the twp leads POV but at some point there is also Bristol POV. It was well written with plenty of steam. I am starting to really like this Author.

Fine I’ll leave this book came out. I was waiting for it since it was first launched on Amazon Vella. Charisse Spiers did not disappoint at all. Kaysea is a virgin in college and has no interest in dating until her roomie creates an app called Candy Cam for online dating. Little did Kaysea know what she was getting into. She meets a guy and hits it off over a discussion about pancakes but there is definitely more than meets the eye.

This is a must read book!!
