It has been five years since Violet and her twin gathered up their friends and traveled to the aid of their aunt. Who they failed. Agatha Davies was murdered, their family faced many of its demons, and Violet met the love of her life.A lot has happened since then, mostly of a murderous nature. This year, they're determined to take back Christmas. Fate, it seems, has other things in store. Feeling like death is stalking them, Vi and friends set up for the holiday. When the bodies start appearing, it's clear that death is stalking them and this time--they might not be as lucky as before.
I have read all of the Violet books. This was absolutely my least favorite. First, it was too short. I’m not sure why authors put out these short stories. Most readers would prefer a regular length book. The short ones are not worth the read. Second, the first 1/2 of this book I was convinced it was just Violet’s nightmare, it just seemed odd and uncomfortable. And last, (I’m guessing it will be blamed on the publisher) it was originally supposed to be available on Nov 27th. Then suddenly it was available on Nov 30th. Why the change? I was looking forward to reading it on a flight I had scheduled for the 28th!! As it turns out, I would have been disappointed whenever I read it!
Anyway, I’m hoping the next installment will be a great improvement, otherwise I may be done with this series. 🫤
I’m sorry, but 38 pages! I hadn’t looked at the page count (can’t see it before publication date), and just downloaded it from KU and jumped into what was an interesting story. Just got to the good part, turned the page only to see a final paragraph and then the copyright on the following page. It completely ruined my enjoyment of this ‘book’.
This ended up being nothing more than a teaser so I knocked a at least a star off for making me wait so long for only 38 pages 😒
The best book she's written for a while, but still too short. I'm really tired of waiting for Violet to have the baby. I think the series should end then. It has gotten kind of absurd with all the babies being adopted by the group, plus the butler's teenage adoption and now Smith has a niece. I know adoption is dear to the authors heart but this is too much. I'm hoping she gets back on track with the new series about Josephine West. A fresh start will be welcome.
This book wasn’t long but it was good as always. I love that the family is growing. I love the intelligence of all the characters. I do wish the book had lasted longer because these books take a while to come out and I wait anxiously for them. I’m certain in the land of publishing it’s lightening quick, but to me it seems like forever. I’d love to have heard what actually happened with Denny, he’s so endearing.
Don't mess around with Violet Wakefield! You WILL regret it! Five years since they discovered Violets aunt's death and more murders than a country policeman sees, and the murderers are still far less intelligent than they believe they are. No wonder the group is so depressed at times. The plot is straightforward, and the premise is stopping the murderer and bringing the victim justice. I definitely recommend this book.
This is another murder mystery but with much lighter, funny overtones! Go is heavily pregnant, grumpy, and confused. Her female friends support her in their investigation. They include the 3 young girls who are part of their ever growing family , formed by love, not necessarily blood!
The early stories were so fun and surprising. Lately it seems like they are just being cranked out without a lot of thought to plot development -- so many things glossed over or details skipped. The stories are moving along ok and then wrapped up in the last couple of pages as if the author was hitting a page count limit.
Where's the rest of it? I thought this was supposed to be a novel in the series. It's more like a short, short story. There's a build up and then one page of mystery before it ends. There's no investigation, nothing but a one line ending. I had to go back and check to make sure I had the whole thing. It's not even a good Christmas story. I was very disappointed.
There were fewer errors but still way too many. Hire a good editor! The book was too short- no plot development and the characters seemed just stuck in without warning or thought.
Finally, the whole group is together again! Not much from the men of the group. A lot of Vi, Lila, Ginny and Bea. I loved it. Agatha and Tory are a toot, too. Murderers don't have a prayer with this group.
This series is so very rich, it feels as though we've all become friends, and I absolutely love joining each and every one them on their adventures! I am never disappointed!
This book is brilliant, the stories are wonderful and enjoyable to read, the characters are really well written,I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories.
I did enjoy the book-but, like most of her other books in this series it leaves me wondering…how many times can you use the words devil and demon in a book and not become tedious.
