Hmm not as well written as previous books in the series or even other series by this author. I’m incredibly surprised. Whilst the plot was good, there were clear errors (eg Bledshaw vs Bradshaw??) and the dialogue was a bit juvenile in some places and just a tad pedestrian. Not what I’m used to with this author at all. It’s almost like it was a different writer.

Same old same old

Can we have a sensible plot and not something so unrealistic that your head spins? Try the BenPorter series for legitimate action!

Jack Mars’ “Target Eight,” the eighth instalment in the Spy Game series, is a thrilling ride that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Known for his gripping narratives and well-developed characters, Mars delivers yet another action-packed espionage novel that fans of the genre will undoubtedly appreciate.

The story follows Jacob Snow, a seasoned operative, as he is thrust into a high-stakes mission to thwart a terrorist plot. The terrorists plan to blow up a major dam, which not only threatens thousands of lives but also endangers one of the world’s most significant archaeological sites. As Jacob delves deeper into the mission, he uncovers a series of twists and turns that reveal the terrorists’ true, more sinister objective.

Jacob Snow is a compelling protagonist. His experience and skills are evident, but Mars also takes the time to explore his vulnerabilities and personal struggles. This depth makes Jacob a relatable and engaging character. The supporting cast, including Jacob’s allies and adversaries, are equally well-crafted, each adding layers to the narrative and enhancing the overall tension and intrigue.

Mars’ writing style is crisp and fast-paced, perfectly suited for a thriller. He masterfully balances action scenes with moments of introspection, allowing readers to catch their breath while still maintaining a sense of urgency. The themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the moral complexities of espionage are woven seamlessly into the plot, providing depth to the story beyond the surface-level action.

One of the standout features of “Target Eight” is its intricate plot. Mars excels at creating suspense and keeping readers guessing. The numerous twists and turns are well-executed, ensuring that the story remains unpredictable. Additionally, the detailed descriptions of various locations add a layer of authenticity to the narrative, making the reader feel as though they are right there with Jacob on his mission.

While “Target Eight” is a highly engaging read, it is not without its flaws. Some readers might find the plot a bit too complex, with numerous subplots and characters to keep track of. Additionally, a few of the twists, while surprising, may stretch the bounds of believability for some.

Overall, “Target Eight” is a stellar addition to the Spy Game series. Jack Mars has once again proven his ability to craft a thrilling, action-packed narrative that keeps readers hooked from beginning to end. Fans of espionage thrillers will find much to enjoy in this book, from its well-developed characters to its intricate plot and high-stakes action. Whether you are a long-time fan of the series or a newcomer, “Target Eight” is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

Jana and Jacob are on a well deserved break and relaxing at a cabin in the woods. When a dam explodes and thousands of people are killed, they are called back and team up with the Antiquities Division. None of them have heard of this division before and soon more dams around the world are in danger. Lots of action around the globe and an old enemy on the horizon. I'm looking forward to the next adventure.

Much of a muchness

Thankfully less archaeology and more spy/action than previous books, so better in that sense. However still seems to struggle in making any real progress with the underlying storyline of The Order. They get a very short and minor mention near the end of the book
I hope things become more focused as the premise of The Order has merit

enjoy the Jack & Jana dynamic ignore the lack of proofreading

I bought 16 of the books in this set after reading the first two, I’m not sure I’d do it again. I enjoy the relationships of the key characters and respect the work that goes into writing one book much less many. But - the rampant errors take away from the enjoyment; indicate an absence of proofreading, and are a distraction. More so they suggest a lack of respect for the audience.

WOW I know this is supposed to be fiction, but this author makes it appear so real I’m beginning to wonder. Action from start to finish I couldn’t put it down.

Too many typos

Too many typos and confusion of Bradshaw and Bledshaw. The plot was not as believable as previous books. I’m disappointed.

3.5⭐️. Really, can we get an editor or proofreader, please? Mr. Bledshaw became Mr. Bradshaw became Mr. Bledshaw again paragraph after paragraph.

Interesting storyline moving away from Roman archeology to something more mystic. Not sure where the franchise is going since The Order has taken a back seat.

This political spy thriller series is SO bingeable! It reminds me of the Jack Ryan books or Brad Thor's books, but shorter. Really good and I am definitely continuing this series to the end!
