I’ve had this book on my TBR for a bit but it was hard to get through. I don’t DNF any books, but I just found myself disinterested here.
The story has a lot of promise. It just didn’t feel very fleshed out. The beginning felt very abrupt, the relationship between Chris and Daphne never picked up a real passion or tension, and the ending didn’t pack as much of a punch.
I liked the premise of the story and enjoyed Daphne. I found her struggles relatable and the themes of patriarchy and identity to be more engaging than anything else in the book.
This read was light. The premise is good. It is quippy, just not with banter that I particularly connected with, and it has more of a soft romance vibe for people who prefer that!

Waiting to get married or get married young? Always curious about what people want to do/what they did and why!
I got married when I was 25, and although I still felt young - my hubs and I have a great relationship because we work so well together!
Now that I've lived three decades on this planet - my reading tastes have changed over the years. I still love angsty romances, but not in quite the same way as I used to. I *need* my literary heroines to overcome gargantuan tasks/battles (even if those struggles only seem big in their minds), whether it's fantasy or romance!
This is why I so appreciated receiving 'Finding Mr.Write' by Kelley Armstrong. Forever Romance really knows how to find authors who can tell an amazing story—even when the content isn't so absurd or over the top. Armstrong wrote characters I genuinely liked and rooted for throughout every part of this book, and that really is SO rare when I read romance novels these days.
Romance as a genre has always been my bread and butter as a reader and that will probably never change!!

Listen, this one is on me. As usual. But even knowing I had likely outgrown Armstrong as an author (despite her being what is probably my most-read and [once upon a time pre-unhauls] my most-owned) I thought.. a romcom? Sure, why not. And I blame this purely on the Read Now option on NetGalley. You got me. You got me. And now here we are.
This was overwhelmingly just mostly fine. But it was also annoying in a variety of low-level ways. Sure, the reality of female authors being automatically labeled YA, being paid less (even sometimes despite previous success), facing more rejections, receiving less funding for marketing, and, well, you get the point, that's the obvious annoyance. So watching an author circumvent those issues by creating a pseudonym, and a male one at that, wasn't the bad part. Nor was said author hiring someone to handle the interviews not only to maintain the charade but also deal with the social interactions required to be known and in public to support the book itself. It could've been a fun concept.
But. I didn't like the characters. I felt a lot of things just weren't well fleshed out or felt kind of.. dumb. And in addition to the bouts of miscommunication that we dodged around a few times, I just felt this suffered from the recent issue of being too.. nice. Too over-explainy. Too considerate. Which isn't to say I don't want some of this or, rather, I don't want to feel these things happening in romances. But there's a way to do it that doesn't feel.. obvious.
Also, this suffered badly in the romance areas. These characters were daydreaming of relationships and logistics for said relationships before they'd even kissed. And then we went from, like, one kiss, and then fast forward like 40% to.. randomly shoehorned in graphic-ness. It was kind of a mess.
And don't even get me started on the "villain"-esque element.
I may decide to one day revisit my old paranormal favourites but I don't think I'll be venturing into anything new by this author anymore. The last few results have proven to be the rule and not the exception and I'm finally throwing in the towel. So, yeah, I should've known better. This was on me. And, as always, your mileage may vary.

Daphne McFadden is straight-up tired of rejection. She's been sending out her manuscript to agents left and right, only to get shut down every. single. time. But she's not about to let that stop her dreams! So, she does the unthinkable – submits her work again, but this time under a man's name. And boom! It gets snatched up and turns into a total sensation! Now Daphne needs a man to play her macho alter ego, Zane Remington. Enter Chris Stanton. who seems like the perfect fit for the role. But "Finding Mr. Write" isn't just a fluffy rom-com. Armstrong doesn't shy away from tackling some serious stuff like gender roles, sexism, and racism in the publishing game. But she handles it all with grace and adds layers of depth to an already awesome story.
So, if you're looking for a read that's equal parts swoon-worthy romance, laugh-out-loud funny, and thought-provoking, "Finding Mr. Write" is where it's at! Seriously, grab a copy ASAP and thank me later!

I love Kelley Armstrong so I knew I was going to read this book when I saw it. I especially love that she writes such a diverse collection of books across lots of genres. I was not disappointed by this rom-com by her. I will admit the love interest took me a minute to really like, but once I fell I fell hard (much like our heroine). Daphne has written a book that she can’t sell and she has an idea she runs by her friend Nia who is an attorney. Daphne uses a male pseudonym and Nia finds her a man who needs Nia’s help to play “Zane” for a couple of author shots. But a couple of photos turns into pure chaos as Daphne’s book becomes a hit. And despite them living in completely different areas sparks are flying between Chris and Daphne. This book was a fun read that I devoured. Also, I would love to see Daphne’s book written, I think Kelley Armstrong could do it justice.

Big money comes calling and her book is being published. Slight problem, she needs a super macho man to use as the face on the back cover. The book surpasses expectations and her little “no public tour” clause now needs a live actor to pose as author. Chris Stanton agrees to play the part of Zane Remington, Yukon, off-the-grid macho man. It’s an acting job. A persona he can fake part time. Being around Daphne full time, has him falling head over heels for her. He needs to slow his hopes and dreams down and figure out how to impress the woman for real. How hard could it be?
A fun romantic comedy about a woman, writing under a male pseudonym and the man she hires to play the role in public.
Exhilarating, joyful, and absolutely dreamy.
😭 I was a sobbing mess through the last 15% of the book. Not sad. Emotional in a heartbreaking and wonderful repairing way. In a “found the love of your life” kind of way and now have to figure out how to make it right. Chris screws up. Not intentionally. His trying to manage and fix everything is delicate and delicious. He wants to make sure to support her. To do what she wants and what is best for her. He’s such a geek. An accounting geek that I loved so much. A PowerPoint!
The walking around naked part didn’t hurt either. 😊
Please, please, author. I know this was your first official “rom com” but I will pay good money to read more. Betting I’m not alone on the score.

Finding Mr. Write is the perfect fun, light romantic read for the summer. Both Daphne and Chris are very likeable characters, and their romance was cute, but it also felt kind of rushed. I would have liked to see more development in their relationship, some more chemistry. Yes they both thought the other was hot, and both were charming and nice, but it felt like there needed to be more there.
The writing was very engaging, especially at the beginning, however somewhere towards the middle the story just started to fall a little flat for me. I was still enjoying the book and having a good time, but once the book tour started, my interest starting waning a tad. I'm personally not a fan of the miscommunication trope, and I don't want to to give spoilers, but I felt a lot what was going on was overly dramatic and not as big a deal as the characters thought. The resolution to the big conflict at the end also fell sort of flat for me and I wish it had been handled differently.
Overall this book was a good time! Chris especially got a few laughs out of me. I'd recommend if you're looking for a fast, fun read.

Mild spoiler-ish comment below…. But explains why this wasn’t a 5⭐️ for me.
I think the non romantic subplot had enough of a solid arc and conflict that we really didn’t need the romantic conflict at the end. I really dislike when romcoms have a 3rd act romance conflict that was unnecessary when the non romantic plots conflict was more than sufficient for a climax.
Very much enjoyed this.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. I am an avid Kelley Armstrong fan across all genres so far, and much of her work has romance as a theme, but never quite like this.
This one was fun, and I laughed, and I genuinely liked the main characters, especially Chris.
The loss of the star is from when things get a little bit too tropey in an annoying way with Daphne and Chris.
I did love the slap to the publishing/agent industry and how sexist it remains today.
Also the spicy scene in the cab and after is nice :)
Otherwise, it's a great read!

I love Kelley Armstrong’s writing, so I was excited to read her foray into romance/rom-com, and this was a light fun read. The situation with Chris posing as the writer of Daphne’s book didn’t thrill me, but it was the means to get these two together and I did know that was the basic plot going in.
Both Chris and Daphne were likable characters I could relate to, and I was rooting for their HEA. However, I didn’t feel a lot of chemistry and it took me ages to get through this story. It might be because I haven’t been in the mood for romances lately. There are a ton of readers that loved the story more than I did for sure.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy courtesy of Forever. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oui, j'ai trouvé quelques longueurs dans le récit. Mais en réalité, ça ne m'a absolument pas freinée parce que j'étais beaucoup trop à fond ! J'ai adoré les personnages, leur relation, leurs caractères respectifs et la manière dont tout cela se liait avec l'intrigue autour du roman, du monde de l'édition... tout était aussi original qu'addictif, tout était si bien mené que j'ai dévoré le roman en un temps record ! Coup de coeur autant pour l'intrigue que pour cette avalanche de green flags... là encore et comme ma lecture précédente, c'était PILE POIL ce dont j'avais besoin : un peu de douceur dans ce monde de brute ❤️🩹

I picked this up for the pretty cover, and I stayed for the inner monologues, funny banter, and interesting storyline. The beginning started off a little slow, but it does pick up around the 60% mark. The third act miscommunication, as it seems to appear in every romance novel I’ve read this year, was actually fitting and frankly hilarious as we see the seemingly perfect mmc who has the looks of a frat bro named Brad but the emotional sensitivity and brains of a Hozier song, finally mess up.
While I really enjoyed the second half of the book with the twists and turns, nothing in particular stands out to make this a 4 or 5 star read. In truth, I’m only writing this review because I promised myself I would, and even so, I’ve been procrastinating for 5 days trying to think what to say. Giving this a ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars. If you’re looking for a life-changing read, this is not it, but if you are considering reading this, I’d say go for it.

I was so excited for this one, but it missed the mark. The leads didn't feel fully fleshed out, and I found the MMC’s various personas hard to follow. There were just too many things going on throughout the story, culminating in an unnecessary (and quickly solved) third-act breakup.

Finding Mr. Write is a romantic comedy.
Kelley Armstrong is my favorite author. I was so excited when I found out that she was writing a rom-com. And it's just as amazing as her other books. I absolutely loved this book!
This book is partially set in the Yukon. And it is about a female author named Daphne who decides to send her book to publishers with a male pseudonym. She also hires someone to play the role of Zane Remington.
This book completely hooked me right from the start. It is funny and romantic and I honestly loved everything about it.
I really enjoyed getting to see the publication process. And the premise was so amazing. I really cannot believe that this is the author's first rom-com. This book will make you so happy. What a wonderful read!

Convening with her best friend Nia leads to a decision to hire an actor who can play the role of Zane Remington in the public eye. Unbeknownst to Daphne, the arrogant “actor” Chris Ainsworth whom Nia recommends is actually Chris Stanton…an accountant and an incredible baker, though that secret is something he doesn’t share immediately.
Finding Mr. Write was a captivating novel and very relatable for many women who may have dealt with the ingrained misogyny within their industries. Daphne’s decision to publish using a male name is very understandable both from a standpoint of immense social anxiety and the knowledge that in certain cases, male authors may receive more consideration in comparison to their female counterparts.
Daphne and Chris are engaging characters, presented with both humor and realistic flaws that make them more accessible. I truly appreciated how mature Daphne and Chris were; although there were some miscommunications, when issues did arise they dealt with-most of-them effectively. Even when considering the potential of a relationship, the mental considerations of what they would each be willing to possibly accept or sacrifice isn’t taken lightly. The romantic and sexual tension is also excellent and the spicy content isn’t gratuitous.
I would definitely recommend Finding Mr. Write if you’re interested in a fun rom-com with a glimpse into the journey of a newly-published author, a hidden identity, a dash of fake dating, some incredible sexual tension and even a delightful dog.

Coffee Dates With Finding Mr. Write
First Date- As someone who loves books, audiobooks and works with authors and publishers, this book was hilarious. Along the way, Armstrong hit on relevant truths about the industry. Daphne McFadden is an outdoorsy writer who lives in Alaska, carries bear spray and has written a post apocalypse story. I felt her frustration at being rejected and her surprise when her book goes into a bidding war and lands a deal. When Daphne and her best friend decide to hire an actor for the cover, I was all in.
Second Date- I loved the meet-cute between Chris Stanton, aka Zane and Daphne. Chris is acting, but he's not an actor and in his head he imagines how Daphne will want Zane to be. This man knows nothing about the outdoors, has never handled a gun, let alone encountered a bear. The two end up at her cabin for a television interview and it goes viral, pushing the publisher to want lots of signings. The two decide Daphne will travel with him as his assistant. I loved their chemistry as Chris charms and negotiates their tour accommodations. They might just pull this off. That is until Daphne gets an email that changes everything. Someone knows about Zane.
Third Date- As their relationship moves out of the friends' zone, things heat up on the tour and Chris does something radical. I laughed, adored the cute dog, and swooned a little, even if I wanted to knock a few heads. I loved the little side topics involving the industry from staff to the CEO. We see lots of character growth from both Daphne and Chris before the story wrapped up. Armstrong delivered a cute, funny RomCom perfect for fans of books.
If you are looking for a light, fun romance to take to the beach, consider adding Finding Mr. Write.

A rounded up 2.5 star. This was an easy, fluffy read- but there’s honestly way better options out there! Everything the synopsis describes happens in the first 25% of the book- which makes you wonder what else will happen…. Not much as it turns out! The plot was weak. There were too many “miscommunications” & the resulting fights just weren’t believable. & honestly the whole premise of the problem of the book (Daphne revealing that “Edge” was written by her & not Zane) was just kinda dumb- I don’t think anyone in real life would care about a pseudonym reveal…. It wouldn’t be that dramatic or problematic. The way Daphne talked about it was like she’d committed a prisonable crime having hired someone to play her pseudonym. I don’t recommend. Get yourself some Emily Henry or Abbey Jimenez instead!

This was really entertaining!
I enjoyed the juxtaposition of author treatment showcased here (women vs men).
I also enjoyed how that was not necessarily the main plot, but kind of a sidecar that has a great impact.
The scenery is amazing and the characters are really fun to spend time with.

“Finding Mr. Write” is a romance written by Kelley Armstrong. A fast, light and fun novel characterized by effervescent prose, an engaging pace and short chapters. A cute story that entertained me a lot and gave me a few hours of total joy, but unfortunately did not win me over.
Daphne and Chris, protagonists with their respective third person povs, left me rather lukewarm. Okay, I admit that I don't particularly appreciate romance books written in third person, and perhaps that may have influenced me, but I don't know, I found them a bit shallow. I liked them, I followed them with pleasure, but they conveyed little to me. I had the impression that I saw only a small part of them, and that left me definitely dissatisfied. The development of their relationship then seemed rather rushed to me, with feelings appearing a bit out of nowhere. Otherwise, I loved the idea of the novel a lot and although it is not one of my favorite romance novels, I still enjoyed it.

An utterly fun and hard to put down romcom debut from bestselling fantasy/mystery writer, Kelley Armstrong. I've long been a fan of this Canadian author and I was excited to see her trying her hand at contemporary romance.
The premise for this book hooked me from the start and I was laughing out loud from page one. When Daphne can't sell her YA zombie surival book under her own name she tries submitting it with as Zane Remmington. When it sells at auction and gets a HUGE marketing push Daphne finds herself hiring an actor to play the role of Zane only to later discover Chris is just a down on his luck accountant who needed the money.
Full of banter and great chemistry, this was such an enjoyable dual POV, forced proximity romance with a Canadian lead and a swoony, hot, baking love interest. HIGHLY recommended especially for fans of movies like The lost city with Sandra Bullock. Many thanks to NetGalley and Forever for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

To say I fell in love with this novel, with these characters, is maybe an understatement. I absolutely adored this read. I don't read a lot of romance or rom-coms anymore but when I do, it is always worth it and reminds me all over again, why I should be reading more of them. Armstrong's latest is exactly that reminder I needed. This was just so much fun. I loved everything about it and the characters were so real feeling and I felt completely invested in their future, together or not. This was so entertaining and a perfect summer read. Heck, this is just the perfect read for any season, for any reason. So well done!
Armstrong doesn't need to worry about the ratings and feedback on this one, it's going to do smashingly well!

This was an extremely enjoyable rom-com! What made it even better is that it was written by one of my favorite authors who usually writes fantasy novels. This had all of the perfect elements of a romance that you can lose yourself in. Set in the Yukon, the reader gets alternate view points between Daphne and Chris. Both characters were strong, funny, and likable. I found myself rooting for both of them and wanting to keep reading to see what would happen next. There was also a great message behind the story. I love when the author can write an entertaining story that can also inspire you. This was a fun, romance and I can't wait to see what this author writes next!

A critique of the internalized misogyny of the publishing world AND a cute love story all in one? Sign me up.

Daphne McFadden, axe-wielding zombie novelist in the remote Yukon, is trapped in a web of her own making. After submitting her manuscript under a male pseudonym (after a little too much wine and too many rejections), she hires actor Chris Ainsworth to portray Zane Remington on the back of her book. Easy. Done. Chris Stanton has backed himself into a corner. The Clark Kent-type hot accountant took an acting gig (for the first time since drama club), and now he's stuck pretending to be professional himbo Chris Ainsworth... who is pretending to be the ultimate designer flannel-wearing, wood chopping man's man, Zane Remington. When the book becomes a huge hit, the two are suddenly faced with a press tour and media scrutiny, all while a growing attraction is building. But as the whirlwind of fame converges on them, how long can they keep this secret?
Daphne and Chris are excellent characters. They're both around 30, and it shows (in a good way). They're both actual adults who deal with their problems in a logical, mature way, and none of the choices either of them made caused me to want to throw my book against a wall (especially helpful when you're reading on a Kindle). The relationship conflicts they face are not the result of unprocessed trauma, but those of real adult people. In my opinion, these characters have both gone to therapy. Also, I want Chris to do my taxes.
Daphne is pulling the ultimate "ask not what you can do for the patriarchy, but what the patriarchy can do for you" and doesn't always feel comfortable with that. She consistently questions whether her choice is rooted in internalized misogyny, and comes to the result many of us do: we just don't know. She's facing a lot of uncertainty that many of us in our late 20s/early 30s do, and approaches this entire situation with equal amounts of poise and chaos (in the best possible way). Chris consistently meets her where she is and is the ultimate cheerleader and cinnamon roll, and their relationship is just so cute.
The pacing was incredibly well done, and the rhythm gives the same feeling that a nostalgic girlypop song brings. The beginning was a little rushed, but it allowed us to dive straight into the action of the story. I was originally hesitant when I noticed how quickly the dual POV switched back and forth (multiple times per chapter), but it wound up being one of my favorite things about this book.
Other things I liked:
✨ no excessive mentions of social media or references that age quickly
✨ it's cute and fun while still dealing with topics like institutional misogyny in a way that doesn't feel out of place in a love story
✨ dragging old white male authors who write BIPOC female MCs without any input about lived experiences
✨ acknowledgement of indigenous people existing in the area where the book is set
✨ boy obsessed trope
✨ black cat/golden retriever couple
✨ banter that made me laugh out loud

Solid romance book by an author I love. I was a bit worried with Kelley Armstrong writing in this genre but she did a good job with it. The first line made me laugh and really sucked me into the story, "I need a penis" and she did need that, but not in the way you are thinking. Well maybe a little in that way as well ;).
Daphne, tired of rejection from trying to get her book published has submitted it under a male pen name and gotten all the recognition it should have gotten in the first place. But now she has a conundrum of needing someone to play this male author. I liked Daphne, who has had some real hardships and fallen for some terrible people in the past. She took an opportunity and I get and applaud that. Things get way out of control but hey, that makes for a fun book. I also understand that as an introverted author the concept of talking to people in public has got to be terrifying so having an actor do go out and do it for you could be a tempting thing.
Chris is an accountant who made a bad choice trusting an old friend and now has some legal issues to deal with and needs money to avoid bankruptcy. In comes this opportunity to play Zane. I liked how he played Zane even if it too was a bit over the top at times. It was nice that there was such a difference from his real self and this persona he put on because he thought it was what was expected. I enjoyed watching him and Daphne get to learn who each other really were.
This book deals with some real issues that still crop up. People do anticipate different things from male and female authors, and any profession really. Publishers market the books differently. Its expected that a female will capitulate to demands, take less money and generally be easier to deal with. When Chris playing Zane makes demands for first class and things it is taken as well that's okay lets keep him happy. But likely a female making those same demands would get told they were being unreasonable. I appreciated the way the light was shone on this issues.
Loved the time spent in the Yukon. The scenery comes to life which is something I have come to expect when reading Armstrong's work. The parts taking place at Daphne's up north really were my favourite. Such a different setting choice and I love that a unique part of Canada was used.
The romance overall was good, they do communicate which is a big deal to me. There's still a bunch of misunderstanding which is a story driver I get that. The phone interruptions happened too often, the first couple were amusing after that got a bit old. But for the most part, just a good book.

Okay. I have thoughts...
I'm just going to flat out say - I was not a fan of this book.
I hate rating this so low because I found myself seeing that the writing itself was not bad but I really struggled to get through this.
For me, the plot could have been cute but this is a hard concept to make cute and not cheesy or weird. Like, this story could have easily ended if she came clean in one email. Everything else just felt so unnecessary and extra.
I feel like there was just A LOT going on in this. We had so many little stories or add on moments that just had me feeling like this was all over the place. When the camera crew came over, I just felt like we tried fitting 10lbs of story into a 5lb bag. Too much. The bear and the swimming and the canoe and the brownies and the girl coming onto Chris and the neighbor and the tree and I could keep going. And that was just 10% of the book.
The characters were not my favorite. I couldn't feel any chemistry between Chris and Daphne. I felt like he was hired and then they're suddenly texting but there was no relationship growth or development. Texting to "we're in a fling" in a matter of like two chapters. I was genuinely confused as to when they suddenly got super close and BFF material.
I don't want to repeat myself a lot but throughout this whole thing I just felt like there was too much being thrown in. Chris is an accountant but now actor and author and boyfriend? Like...it's doing too much. The two of them go back and forth this whole book and I just kept getting annoyed. There was just a lot of talk and no action.
The end was all over the place. The letter and him leaving and then chasing her was just so overly dramatic and ridiculous.
I don't think I could even pinpoint their personality traits at this point. So I couldn't even tell if Chris would act this way and even which Chris it was. Why were there two Chris personalities?
I had to skim majority of this because it was soooo much "inner dialogue" in third person.
This is sounding really harsh and just mean and I'm so sorry for that because I don't like to be negative with books. But isn't that what your personal opinionated reviews are? Speaking how you truly feel?
Because listen, there are some people on here who LOVED this and that's amazing. I'm glad they were able to see this book differently.
For me, I just couldn't get into it and didn't like a lot of aspects of it.

Okay. I have thoughts...
I'm just going to flat out say - I was not a fan of this book.
I hate rating this so low because I found myself seeing that the writing itself was not bad but I really struggled to get through this.
For me, the plot could have been cute but this is a hard concept to make cute and not cheesy or weird. Like, this story could have easily ended if she came clean in one email. Everything else just felt so unnecessary and extra.
I feel like there was just A LOT going on in this. We had so many little stories or add on moments that just had me feeling like this was all over the place. When the camera crew came over, I just felt like we tried fitting 10lbs of story into a 5lb bag. Too much. The bear and the swimming and the canoe and the brownies and the girl coming onto Chris and the neighbor and the tree and I could keep going. And that was just 10% of the book.
