A dedicated mother, established in her career, and a homeowner in a small town just outside her birthplace—Rochester, New York—Skye Cooke takes humble pride in her accomplishments, never losing sight of all to be grateful . Her ambitious endeavors to endure stable financial security pivot her world. And when the undertaking burdens, her sterling heart comes to the rescue—soothing the pressure.
One afternoon, glued to the screen of her favorite anime, Skye mindlessly commences a fantasy, living a life as the show’s free-spirited protagonist. Immersed in her imagination, she lulls into slumber, only to awaken aboard a boat in the middle of the sea.
Arriving at a place unlike anywhere she’s ever known, a disparate society filled with amicable people, Skye submerges in despair when no one offers so much as a clue to the answers she desperately seeks.
Grief takes hold in the ill-fated future to never see her son or loved ones again. Until she crosses paths with someone dissimilar to this world's affable norm but familiar to the world she knows—Elias Crawford.
And amidst a new journey, a futile question arises—one that only the heart would dare ask— “What if?"
An indie author new to publishing, Rose Richards promotes her brand under the broad umbrella of fiction. She prefers not to crate herself under a sub-specific genre as she writes spontaneously from her ever-changing imagination. Today may be a romance, tomorrow a thriller, and next week metaphysics---or throw them all together and write a breathtaking story.
At the pause of the pen, she's either enjoying her family, tethered to a paperback, or glued to a show that defies all things reality.
I'm still in awe over this book!!! The plot, the passion, all the way to the ending I was captivated. This book has so much in it that it leaves you wanting more and more and I couldn't put it down. I'll be impatiently patient for more bc the ending leaves you with more to desire and suspect more to follow!
This book will put you in all kinds of feelings. You will feel a strong mom independence. You will feel hate towards drunk man. And then you will be swept Into a land of Peace and kindness. You will have all kinds of feelings of Walls being broke down and being closed off. But then when Fate aligns It brings the goodness out of it all and 2 people find who they truly truly are with the passionate love they have for one another in 120 days. There's a huge cliffhanger that begs you for more. Absolutely amazing read.
"Turning around, I'm face with the smug smile. I reach behind me and let water from the faucet fill my hand before splashing that Smirk right off his face. He flinches and turns his back to me. " That's what you get for being an a$$hole.".......... "Elias!" I squeal. I turn to face the sink and wipe flour from my eyes as he dies with laughter. Oh he thinks he's 1.......... The hose bucks and I abandoned it. And make a break for it, But before I can take off, I'm being hold up by my waist...... He tries to tackle me, but the floor is wet and we both slipped. With a loud thump, We hit the ground. Elias fell backwards, but he never let me go so my back landed on top of him. Rolling off, I brought myself up on my elbows."
"She places a hand on my chest. "It's the last time you aloud your heart to feel. Is telling you what it's longing for. Not necessarily the people, but the feeling. It's the real Elias underneath, they need to be set free. Your heart is reminding you of a time when you are happy. You have to set your heart free. It's time to make new loving memories in this world."
Firstly, a thank you to the author for the opportunity to read the ARC. Secondly, with that said, this is my first ARC review and I don’t really leave wordy reviews, if any, as I’m not great with words.
I would best describe “120 Days" is a refreshing, down to earth romance. I felt a great connection to the protagonist, being a single mother myself at one point. The love a child is definitely enough to make a person give up an almost utopian-like world where the struggle isn’t in the way of self-discovery and being able to simply just live life.
The slow burn romance is thoughtful and a breath of fresh air from the more viral steamy novels (although this has its moments). It was nice that it’s not a insta-passionate, can’t keep our hands off each-other love story. Also, kudos on the love interest not being a giant, walking red flag! The self-reflection of both MCs is excellent… I don’t think I internally yelled at them even once! The world building isn’t high fantasy, but an interesting concept that’s easy to ponder and a nice device that leads the characters introspection.
I really enjoyed that when the dots started to connect, I was still left wondering how the story was going to tie together in the end. It’s never a question of “if she will get home?” but rather how far will she take experiencing this break from reality and how will those involved handle it coming to an end?
When the perfect escape from reality makes her face her deepest truths. Skye’s worked hard for everything she has and is proud of the life she’s made. She has loving parents, a good job, a son she loves with all her heart. So why isn’t she happy?
What I liked… I instantly love how much Skye loves her son Julius and wants to give him the best life. I also love how that life is lacking her happiness. The world she falls into relies on people giving things because they can, and people’s gratitude is payment enough. It’s a beautiful sentiment while acknowledging our world is too far gone for that. I can’t really explain why I love Elias without spoilers, but he’s mysterious and is the key to Skye finding answers.
Random thoughts… It was fun trying to work out what this world really was. Is it an ideal utopia or is something sinister going on? Not a spoiler since I still don’t know, but I was constantly questioning how “perfect” this world is.
Final thoughts… If you love adult adventures with beautiful islands, gorgeous strangers, and some truth bombs, this is the perfect book.
I needed to hear all of this right now. I'm so grateful I got to ARC read.
Ok, I love writing book reviews. I needed to process this one for a bit before posting. We follow Elias and Skye, two individuals floundering and lost at sea, metaphorically speaking. They have gone through their own issues in their lives, and together, they not only help each other and make their way to the surface, but they guide us and teach us some life lessons as well. They definitely told me things I needed to hear.
On top of all that, this was the slowest burn ever, and so worth it. You find yourself falling with them, only to have the earth shatter and open up underneath you, sucking you in, but leaving growth and potential behind. And hope. So much hope. I must have cried for two hours, starting before I finished the book, and for some time after.
These types of life lessons don't always happen at this large of a scale in a book. I fell in love, I learned lessons about relationships, and I had a couple of super strong epiphanies. Thank you so much, Ms. Richards, for this beautiful ride that I couldn't put down.
This book is amazing. I wish our world was more like this one. The world is amazing, the way the one world works is so pretty and sounds like such a paradise.
Skye is a woman who is stuck in a cycle. She is unhappy with her job and doesn’t want to admit it. She goes to take a nap one day and gets transported to This new world/dimension. Everything here is different, there is no money, trading or bartering. There is no technology like she is use to. And she is trying to find her way back to her old life.
Elias had arrived in the new world years ago, his life was horrible and he chose to stay. He found it easier at the time to forget his old life and start anew then go back to his old life. He had been through the whole thing and refused to go back. He then met Skye who changed his whole life and perspective. He opened his heart up to her that he shut away years ago.
There are a few surprises through out the book that I loved. My favorite thing was the suspense on figuring out how she gets back home. I got this book as an arc and this is my honest review.
The cover says “series” and Amazon says book 1 of 1…..I’m desperately going to need book 2. You can’t leave me that way. This was such a well written story, I feel like I’ve become friends with the characters and the book boyfriend? Swoon!
I cried from chapter 56 until the end. Just when I thought we had moved on to happier moments, I was crying again. It’s been a half hour since I finished and I’m crying again.
I suck at giving reviews because I don’t want to give too much away….especially with this book. Go into it blind. I was pleasantly surprised at how modern meets almost fantasy in this book. The way the story flows…it feels almost fairy tale at first. Was not at all what I expected and was a breath of fresh air from the tropes I’ve been reading the past few months. I’ll list a few tropes in the book but I won’t give anymore than that, again, you want to go into this blind.
Grumpy/sunshine vibes Healing Found family vibe Heartbreak Spice 🌶️🌶️ Plot twist Dual POV
This is definitely going to be one of my favorite books of 2024!!
I am a mother and a lover, this book hit me so hard I cried for ten chapters straight. Listen to me. This book will hit on so many emotions, and do it so, so well. It's difficult to compare this book to any other because I rarely step into these types of genres, its fantasy but elements of non-fiction. I fell into a world that I wanted to exist, and I truly didn't want to leave. It felt as though Skye left my world, for one that I wished to be in and find myself a Elias (even if I'm happily married).
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF - GIVE ME BOOK TWO RIGHT NOW WOMAN!!!
I'm giving this a 5 star because it absolutely deserves it, but please note that (in my own opinion) it does start off a bit slow, but once you get past those few chapters which isn't long at all, you are THRUST forward. Take my advice and soak in the calm while you can, because once you get going, it doesn't stop. I DEVOURED this book in 8 hours. That should tell you something.
Even with a lot to be thankful for, who doesn’t need an escape, right? Skye, the central character, has a career, home, and loving son, but one day falls asleep watching anime and wakes up somewhere else entirely, in the middle of an ocean on a boat, and is unsure how to get back to her real life. The only one familiar to the life she knows is Elias, and the story unfolds from there. A combination of fiction, fantasy, and romance make it engaging on multiple fronts and overall makes for a great debut from Rose Richards. Would definitely recommend giving this book a read.
Note: Received this as an ARC. Thank you to Rose Richards for the opportunity to review.
I've got a ARC, and felled in love with the characters.
Skye, a single mother, does everything to support her 4 year old son, working hard and having a good carrier, bit something is missing. Her Soul is trying to tell her what is missing, but she doesn't want to hear it. Until one day, taking a nap, waking up in a different World. Alone. Without Friends and loved ones. Skye, needs to find a way back. She doesn't know how, until she meets Elias.
Her world turns upside down. Can he help her to find her way back or will she stay?
First i want too thank Rose Richards for sending me the arc!. From the beginning of the first chapter until the end this book sucked me in. i just couldnt put it down, the way Rose tells the story of seconds changes, romance and friendship is so compelling and beautiful. the anime refrences were fun and the way that the love between skye and elias grows is so good.
What do we all strive for– a loving family and comfortable life. But, what if there was more? What if we had 120 days to find our purpose? To find our passion?
Skye has a good paying job, a loving family, a son who adores her and friends. Her life is perfect and she is happy. Right? A nap will show her what she has been missing and if there is a way she can truly have it all.
The desire to want to live another life. What a powerful thought and one many of us have had but reality has kept us in check. This book explores the idea that what if reality could be changed? What if you could live in your dreams? But everything comes with a price. A beautiful and heart wrenching story!
Finished this book in one day! The characters feel like real people and the story had me crying, smiling, laughing, and on the edge of my seat for how the story was going to turn out! A beautifully written tale about self-discovery, love, and adventure. I love how the author explores the true meaning of happiness and a fulfilled life. Can’t wait for book 2!
I was lucky enough to ARC read this book, and I say lucky because it had me never wanting to put the book down! From start to finish I was hooked and hungry for more. There is a clear visual given for the characters and their movements with the plot line. It was such a fun read!
This is not my typical read; however, I found the premise intriguing, so wanted to give it a try. There were a few twists and turns that were a little predictable. However, I feel the author did a great job, it is well written, and the characters are well rounded.
In the first installment of this series, Rose Richards seamlessly blends reality and the metaphysical to deliver some reflections of human nature and society, all while telling an interesting love story in the mix.
What a beautiful story of healing, love, second chances, and what ifs. What if you woke up in paradise? A land where people work at their dream jobs, and everything is free. Would you stay? Skye wakes up in paradise. Will she stay or choose to return to her family? This book left me with wanting more.
This is not my typical read. I found Rose on TT and thought the premise of her book sounded good. This definitely had a few twists and ends on a cliffhanger.
This was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Elias and Skye crossing paths in a different world and building a story to end time. I can’t wait for the next book!
Firstly, let me thank the author Rose Richards for so graciously providing me with an ARC of this book. Secondly, do take my honest review with a grain of salt, although I rated it 3.5 I do think this is a book worth getting and reading. I follow the good reads rating scale and I liked / really liked it. Most of my reviews will fall somewhere within this area.
With that being said, the debut novel from author Rose Richards, 120 Days follows the story of Skye Cooke who has a lot to be thankful for: a successful career, a cozy home, and most importantly, a loving son. She works hard to provide a stable life for herself and her child, but one afternoon, after falling asleep watching an anime she wakes up in a strange and unfamiliar land. The people are friendly and the culture/society is different than hers, she finds it hard to find anyone that can help her get back, that is until she runs into Elias Crawford.
I found the world building great, there wasn’t an overcomplication of the history/magic systems and the different islands and cultures made sense. The naming of different items didn’t seem too far-fetched and believable. The slow build up of the romance was also believable and gave me all the right feelings. I loved the romance scene, to me it gave me everything I wanted. Some of the dialogue was a little clunky but never enough to take me out of the story. There were a few characters I did not like, but that is the intent.
I would absolutely recommend this book if you’re looking for a science fiction/contemporary romance without too much science and much more fiction.
