I know this was basically targeted for young adults, but it was lacking. It was missing citations to fact-check the information, which for many chapters it seems almost necessary-- HOW could this not be tied to environment? Who told you that to write here? Was the research just not there in 2001? etc. And there's not even a bibliography page, which should have been required for such juvenile, simplistic content and similes.
In addition, it was condescending in places regarding the mental health aspects. This feeling received while reading seemed to be under the guise of empowerment, but things like "a determination to think positive also helps" at the end of a paragraph is not a way to summarize dealing with the psychological turmoil. It is mocking. It is advice for those who don't understand true grief, nor those who live in reality.
Positive thinking is belief in a magic that doesn't exist; be a realist and deal with your situation. Grieve, move on, and LIVE.
