The first time my gaze locked and held with the doe-eyed beauty named Devyn, she unknowingly became mine .
I’ve watched from the shadows, biding my time and planning our future, waiting for the right moment to prove to her that she belongs to me.
She gave me the perfect opportunity when she fled to Hollow Hills Campground in the RV, running from her past. My Blue Jay is hurting and desperately needs someone to fix her broken wings so she can fly again. I’ll piece her heart together again, but my little bird will never escape me.
I’m coming for you, Devyn. Soon you’ll be mine.
Mine to break as I make you beg for every touch. Your pleasure and pain only come from my hands now.
When I’m done with her, she’ll be ruined for any other man. And I’ll eliminate anyone who tries to come between us.
Ready or not… here I come.
Deceived is a standalone, masked man stalker romance that contains material some readers may find triggering. Please see the author's website for a full list of tropes/TWs. Content is not suitable for those under 18.
Jennifer Rose lives in a small town in Pennsylvania with her best friend and husband, two dachshunds, and a rabbit. She loves frozen mocha coffees, fall/Halloween, and long walks in nature.
1. Please, for the love of whatever it is you call holy, will people start editing their books. This one isn't the worst, but it's not good. 2. There are way too many tropes in one book. I was hoping for a masked man feel. Some stalking, some scary, some smut. Instead, we get an FMC who is DTF the unknown masked MMC without a codom in her RV while camping alone. In the first 10% of the book, then in every % of the book after. 3. No real plot 4. FMC is an unrelatably stupid 5. The kink is not kinky. The smut is just fucking a guy with a mask 6. Knew who the masked guy was before the masked guy did. 7. I think I read this or something like it by a different author a while back. No one owns a trope, but if you are going to do a popular one, you have to stand out for being amazing, not watpad Jason fanfic
This needed a better editing job, most of all. There were quite a few discrepancies, such as: in the beginning of the book, the FMC says she's only ever been with her ex, but a few chapters later, we find out she slept with her stepbrother once, and then a few chapters after that, we find out that she actually was sleeping with her stepbrother pretty frequently for quite a while. Also, her ex is vilified for cheating, but she was cheating on her ex with her stepbrother pretty regularly, so...?
I'm pretty sure this book was mostly written as an excuse for steamy Jason Voorhees fic, which is totally fine, and if that's all you want out of it, you might enjoy it more than I did, but the poor writing kept pulling me out of the romance in a big way.
Jennifer Rose's "Deceived" was E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.—it just hit so well. Yes, I went in blind based on the cover alone. I didn't even read the summary. The book cover is a guy wearing a hockey mask, and the title says "Deceived: A Dark Masked Stalker." It's perfection. "Deceived" had the components of what I look for in a short, dark read. Jennifer Rose got right into it. The Masked Man was creepy and did creepy things. Devyn was a wee bit clueless, but I went with it. And her stepbrother Ryker was every bit dang3r0us and hot.
Devyn is grieving over her grandparent's passing, followed by her breakup with her boyfriend. She decides to take her RV and get away for a while.
However, the Masked Man shows up and does various schm¡nky things to her. There is one smokin' scene in a church. So many schm¡nky scenes are well written in "Deviant" that are now ingrained in my mind—this novella is ranking pretty high for this month's reads.
Naughty Masked Man Fun Here!! Perfect read in time for the spooky season!
If you ever wanted a Hot Jason Voorhees type of guy stalking you around a campground and having his wicked naughty way with you, then you definitely will wanna grab this book!
Or a hot possessive older stepbrother who wants to dominate you and possess your body to its breaking point and make you his, then say hello to Ryker! This book has the best of both worlds here!!
This book has the forbidden romance angle with Devyn and Ryker who are stepsiblings with an undeniable chemistry, but Devyn has her doubts when it comes to her older stepbrother and his OTT Possessive ways. Now with her loyalties torn between two men the masked man who brings her pleasure & pain and Ryker who plays her body like a well-strung instrument that has her asking for more but knowing she shouldn't has her questioning everything she knows.
Buckle up this is a spicy intense wild ride here but check those TW's if you have any sensitivities.
This author has weaved together a fast paced spicy masked man forbidden romance with epic spicy moments that will have needing to cool off and hydrate after this one! A definite Must Read for anyone who wants a spicy dark forbidden romance!
Honestly this book felt like a mash-up of different books written by other taboo authors Rory Ireland and Tate Monroe. And, in my opinion, a cheap mash-up of them. Similar town names, same nicknames, similar plot 🤷♀️ I know no one "owns" a trope or names, but it was way too close for me.
Great book for spooky season! There is a ton of spice that does not disappoint! The book isn’t exceptionally dark, but does include a possessive stalker, step-brother, 🩸 play, 🔪 play, and more. Check TWs.
Interesting idea, fast read, tons of sex! Like we're talking sex scenes in nearly every chapter (though I expected it to be a bit more kinky considering the list of warnings)! This book would probably be fun for someone who wants to try the dark genre (meaning that it wasn't that dark or twisted) or is into vanilla dark. It can get a bit graphic at times though. The characters were ok. Devyn sounded way younger than she was and, honestly, a bit simple at times. Can't say much about the other ones without giving away the itty bitty element of mystery.
As this was an ARC, I really hope somebody gives it another proofread before publishing. There was something weird going on with the tenses throughout the whole story. The writing was ok but a bit repetitive and overly detailed at times. There were also some inconsistency (like in the same scene a character is wearing a button up shirt but then it's described as a t-shirt and then shirt again). The flashbacks didn't always fit with what was said before (it sounded like those were added as an after thought rather than being part of the plan).
I was able to read an ARC of Deceived by Jennifer Rose, an author who is new to me.
I'm currently in my dark romance phase (again), and the shopping list of trigger warnings for this book, checked all my boxes. I'm also a horror movie enthusiast, so I especially enjoyed the references made to Friday the 13th/Jason Vorhees.
I'd say this is definitely more on the lighter side of dark romance though. (I'm not sure what the correct term for that would be)
This masked stalker, dark‐ish romance was addictive and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. I thought I knew where this story was heading, then something would happen to make me second guess myself. The spice was abundant, and each new encounter surpassed the last. There were a lot of flashbacks in this story, which I'm typically not a fan of, but I found that in this case, it really added to my enjoyment of this book.
Fourth book out of 21 from my stuff your Kindle haul.
At this point, I seriously think the book wasn't proofread. There are discrepancies in the verb tenses, there are a lot of mistakes that annoyed the shit out of me. The story was predictable, I was right about the identity of the masked man, though it would've been better if it was someone else. Besides it being advertised as a stalker romance, the stalking was done in the past, not while the story is happening, and I missed that. I think rhus could've been a great story if they would've put more thought and energy into it.
I feel like I could've stopped when the mystery was revealed (even though I already knew who it would be behind the mask), but I don't like DNFing books. That's something I have to work on.
Deceived by Jennifer Rose is the first book I’ve read by this author. Holy Smokes what a great read! I was addicted from the open chapters and it stayed that way all the way until the end. I devoured this book cover to cover in one sitting. It was hot and spicy in all the right places. What an amazing read for the upcoming spooky season. I will mention to check your trigger warnings to be on the safe side. This is a fast paced masked man stalker romance with a dash of forbidden romance (step-siblings). This was an amazing ride and the intensity of the writing is just a chef’s kiss. Speaking of writing, Jennifer Rose does an amazing job setting a scene and painting a picture. I could clearly imagine everything I was reading. Definitely some fan yourself moments. I can’t wait to read more from this author. You should definitely read this book, highly recommended!
I enjoyed reading this book. It's not as dark as I expected it to be but it's still a good read. I like how the masked man gets what he wants, how he wants it. The fmc is feisty and very vocal. I loved it. The rollercoaster scene was 🔥Figuring out the masked man's identity was fairly easy though which was the reason this fell short of a star.

“I’m not God, spitfire. I’m the devil who only cares about pleasing you in every nasty fucking way you’ll let me.”
This was a fun little Halloween read. I love a good taboo story every now and again, and this definitely delivers.
Did it have a ton of plot? No, not really, but it had loads of spice, which was promised!
Although I didn't find myself completely invested in the characters, I still enjoyed aspects of the story. I loved the use of Jason Voorhees, I'm a sucker for the old slasher films, so that aspect was definitely a win for me.
If you're looking for a book with a great plot, this may not be for you. BUT if you want a book with tons of spice, Jason Voorhees vibes, and taboo romance, I'd definitely give this one a shot!
Wanted to enjoy this one, I like a good darkrom and stalker rom is usually an intrigue. This story had too many predictables and that let it down. Not too mention as someone else posted there’s a smorgasbord board of tropes (if you do read the book you will get my reference 🙄 cos I too can be predictable)
This book is perfect for spooky season! Check triggers but, if you enjoy spicy, stalker, early 80’s horror and a tad taboo( step-brother) then you should give this book a read! The story moves fast and the spice does not disappoint! The story kept me guessing, it was a quick read and I enjoyed it!
At one point I wanted to stop reading because I thought I figured out who the man behind the mask was, I thought I was wrong, then again thought I figured it out…it was just a vicious cycle. Turns out I was ✨correct✨ Overall I enjoyed this story.
This was a fun, fast paced and fast burn read with all my favourite tropes. I finished this book in one sitting. I figured out the twist quite early for a change. Easy to read. Will definitely get you all excited for Halloween

Deceived is quite spicy. There was more smut than plot. A little dark and a whole lot of dirtiness is what I'm here for. The plot it does have is perfect for this season.
The only reason I'm giving one star instead of 0,5 is because it mentioned Sleep Token 😌 (it was also the only reason why I read this book in the first place)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 Deceived by @authorjenniferrose I’m really digging all these books with masked men these days! Jennifer wrote this one so well! I was on the edge of my seat, dying to know who the masked man was! I gasped out loud when I finally found out who it was for sure! And I loved the ending so much! 🖤
This book is so steamy it will make you blush! You think you know what's happening, then you don't, then you think you know, but you don't! This book is all of your deep dark fantasies in one! You will never believe how this ends!
Ready to be in the spooky season? Jennifer Rose did an amazing job creating a book that has age gap, enemies to lovers, and SO MANY kinks! I absolutely loved how everything played out the way it did. Having multiple POVs helped understand all the characters. I couldn’t put this book down and loved every single steamy, shocking, & startled scene!
This is the perfect book for the spooky season. All the taboo and spice you need in a book. Jennifer has such a way with writing the stalker character that I have just fallen in love with the trope.
This was the first book I read from this author. I really enjoyed this story and the depth of the love between the characters. I hope the author will give each of Ryker's friends their own stories.
I’d like to start this off by saying this would have been a 4 star read for me. Every trope this book has, I’m into it! On paper, this one has me sold 👏🏻 However, within the first chapter, I noticed one massive red flag: the author constantly switched between first and third person perspective. Like in the same paragraph. At first, I was like 🧐 and maybe thought it was just a mistake; but no, this continued throughout the entire 220 page novella. It was honestly so jarring that it completely detracted from the experience of reading the story.
However, the spice was TOP KNOTCH. Filthy, dirty, hot; I loved it.
The plot was pretty predictable. I’m sure the reveal was meant to be a twist, but I saw it coming from the get go. The FMC was a bit TSTL, and I didn’t really connect with her, but all in all, it was a quick, fitting read for spooky season.
