Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed the first in the series, and was super excited to receive a NetGalley widget for this sequel!

It was just as good as the first, with a couple of plot twists that I wasn’t expecting mixed with the feel-good vibes of the friendships between the 3 main characters. It was pretty funny and I was glad that it had a happy ending too 🥰

Such a heartwarming, fun, cozy whodunit mystery with a pinch of complicated family and loving friends. I loved the dynamics between the family members and best friends. Everyone was distinguished and unique in their own way. Also fabulous that these characters are older.
The ending had me tearing up a bit.

This book totally surprised me! At first, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to read it, but once I started, I couldn’t stop laughing.

Although it’s labeled as a thriller, I’d say it’s more of a beautifully written drama. The events are so well described, and the writing flows effortlessly.

If you're a fan of emotional, character-driven stories, this one’s for you.
Highly recommended!

This is a raucous trip through a hen weekend where one wedding party meets a stag party and...a murder happens. So I was hoping for this book to be more of a mystery and less of a cozy mystery on steroids. I love the title because I can't help thinking of the early 2000 song of the same name. I did read book one in the Bad Girls Detective Agency series ( How Not to Murder Your Ex) and there were a lot of throwbacks to that, so this isn't 100% a standalone book.

I do love that this was multigenerational and we got the hilarity of women of a certain age partying with their mom. There was a great relationship between sisters and friends. There is humor, but I felt like I was watching slapstick the whole time, which is fine and you might enjoy this if you need a quick, fun read, but I like my mysteries to be a tad more serious.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advance reader's copy.

Jeanie and her best friends Amber and Clio, and Jeanie's four sisters are at her hen/bachelorette party. Jeanie will be marrying Tan, her longtime boyfriend and father of their twins.

Jeanie is having an awful time -- her sisters are the epitome of controlling and self-centred, and they've organized a weekend with nothing Jeanie wants to do. Clio and Amber are supporting her, but Jeanie is upset, but not just about her sisters. She is also worried because her fiancé Tan has been behaving strangely for weeks, and she's becoming convinced he's lost all interest in her and getting married.

Then, an angry young woman is murdered on the dancefloor, and an already stressful weekend turns worse. Amber, a former police detective and now head of the Bad Girls Detective Agency, decides that she, Clio and Jeanie must investigate the murder, particularly as the police detective who picks up the case is dismissive of Amber and her successes as a former member of the police, and Amber can see that the investigation will go sideways if left only to that detective.

While trying to participate in the events organized by her sisters Nicola, Charlotte, Pen and Emma, Jeanie, Clio and Amber ask questions and dig into the lives of the dead woman and her acquaintances. The police quickly arrest a young man seen arguing with the woman shortly before Jeanie stumbled into her body, but Amber, Clio and Jeanie are convinced the police detective is wrong. The more they dig, Jeanie becomes worried, as her fiancé Tan seems to be somehow involved with the various nefarious dealings they're discovering. The question is whether the Bad Girls Detectives will piece together all the facts and the identity of the killer before Jeanie's wedding.

This was reasonably enjoyable. The mystery kept me reading, and the dynamics amongst the sisters is aggravating in the extreme, as they kept bulldozing over Jeanie's wishes. I liked Amber quite a lot, and how she and Clio supported Jeanie through an extremely stressful time.

I'm intrigued enough in the central trio to read book one, and look forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for my review.

I enjoyed Katie Marsh's "How Not to Murder Your Ex", which was what tempted me to come back for this second book in the "Bad Girls Detective Agency" series. Unfortunately, this one is less impressive than its predecessor.

In book one there were already clear signs of the author's background in romantic fiction, but that didn't overwhelm the murder mystery element of the plot. This time around the story is essentially an example of feel-good chick lit with large doses of romantic fiction (especially in Jeanie's chapters) with the murder mystery element feeling very much like something of an aside. Even though the murder occurs at the beginning of the book, it isn't until three quarters of the way through the story that the members of "The Bad Girls Detective Agency" really start to seriously seek out the killer.

The writing is once again fluent and engaging enough - though the use of references to people looking "askance" seemed a bit overdone. In terms of the cosy mystery element, I would say this is more "Agatha Raisin" than "Thursday Murder Club", but as I have said, the mystery element takes a supporting role in proceedings in any case. Overall, this was okay as a quick, disposable read, but if there are to be further books in this series I think I will allow them to pass me by.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.

This book was a pleasant surprise. I hadn’t read the first in the series, but everything was established clearly enough that it worked fine as a standalone read as well. The writing excelled at expressing emotion and inner monologues, though the pacing was a little inconsistent. The mystery itself was fun, and I found myself surprised several times throughout.

The action and suspense in this book gave it a lot of flavor and pushed it from three stars to four for me. Some of the chase scenes were a little cartoonish, but it was all so much fun that I didn’t mind. On the other side of the spectrum, the complicated familial relationships were also handled well, and I found their struggles very relatable and nuanced. Fans of chick lit and mysteries that are just suspenseful enough to not be cozy will love this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC. This is my honest review.

4/5 A “killer” party in every sense of the word.

A fun read, full of misadventure, family drama and an overriding story of friendship. Jeannie, Clio and Amber are a great mix of characters, each able to bring their own strengths and individuality to the team, and it’s been fun being back with them investigating the latest mystery. Throw in Jeannie’s mad cap family and this is a fast paced ride.
I really enjoyed the humour from Katie Marsh again and look forward to seeing what comes next for the Bad Girls Detective Agency.

Book two of the Bad Girls Detective Agency and it was great! If you didn’t read book one, you could read this one as a stand alone.
I love the relationship between all the ladies. This is a quick read and I love the different point of views.
This would definitely be considered as a fun read and I highly recommend.

I adored the first book in this series, and this second book did not disappoint. It is humorous and entertaining while still providing a really fun mystery.

Jeannie is (finally) marrying Tan, so her sisters and best friends have planned a hen weekend. This is a hen weekend to remember, especially given that Jeannie trips over a body at a club. The body is wearing one of Jeannie’s hen weekend t-shirts and it is not long before Jeannie and her best friends, Clio and Amber, are wrapped up in the investigation.

This series is just an absolute blast. It is lighthearted and throughout this book I was laughing out loud. The actual mystery was great and kept me guessing. I love that The Bad Girls Detective Agency was back at it, and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book. I leave this review voluntarily.

"Murder on the Dancefloor" by Katie Marsh is the second book in The Bad Girls Detective Agency series, and it's just as good as the first! I loved the initial installment in the series, so I eagerly dived into its sequel. This cozy murder mystery follows the shenanigans of Clio, Amber, and Jeanie, the newly-formed Bad Girls Detective Agency.

The book is written in the third person POV of these three protagonists and alternates between them. While the first book focuses more on Clio, this one centers on Jeanie and her impending marriage. Set in a seaside English town, Jeanie is on the brink of marrying Tan, the father of her twins. Her sisters - Nicola, Charlotte, Pen, and Emma - along with her two best friends, throw her a weekend hen party. However, the celebration takes a dark turn when Jeanie stumbles, quite literally, upon a dead body in the middle of the dancefloor. Amidst the flurry of wedding preparations, Tan's odd behavior, and other "fun" activities planned by Nicola, our gang is busy trying to unravel the identity of the murderer and stay alive in the process.

I found the book to be an enjoyable and quick read. While there were some slow moments, the pace mostly flowed well. I particularly loved the humor, the interactions between the characters, and the dynamic they shared. Clio remains as impulsive as ever, Amber remains clear-headed, and Jeanie exudes sweetness. However, Tan's irritating and foolish behavior grated on me. This time, I didn't manage to guess the identity of the guilty party, and I appreciated the twists. I especially enjoyed the countdown of hours before the wedding and after the murder, as well as the "what's up" chats between the three women.

Overall, it was a fun read, albeit a bit slow-paced at times. This book possesses all the ingredients of a great cozy mystery: an intriguing plot, quirky characters, a fabulous small-town location, and a whodunit filled with twists. The strength of this book lies in its smooth writing and wacky characters. The author introduces readers to a rich and believable cast of characters, quickly immersing them in their lives. This is a great addition to the series, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sweet cozy mystery intertwined with family drama.

* Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for the opportunity to read this arc. All opinions are my own.

Dressed as My Little Pony (don’t ask…!), Jeanie is enduring her hen weekend, the whole event choreographed by her control freak sister – and there are three more sisters too, none of them anyone’s ideal company, along with her mother who’s very much on automatic pilot after the loss of her husband. Jeanie’s still grieving too – but this weekend is all about “fun” (allegedly…), so thank goodness for besties Amber and Clio at her side. Six months on, and the Bad Girls Detective Agency has had a few successes – but their next case is one they can’t help stumbling over, a victim of stabbing, most definitely dead, lying on the dance floor wearing one of the hens’ T-shirts. Jeanie was already having doubts about her impending marriage – fiancé Tan hasn’t been at all himself recently, and she was worried he might have been having second thoughts too – but this feels like one of the worst omens possible.

But the weekend continues in accordance with Nicola’s spreadsheet, more “fun” along with the stag party who were also at the club that night – but so does their investigation, with Amber trying to get one over on her former police colleagues, Clio dashing in without any thought to her own personal safety, and the day of the wedding fast approaching for poor Jeanie. And the story gets darker and darker, with drug finds and underworld connections, moments when they all find themselves in very real danger, individuals who aren’t who they appear to be intent on thwarting their efforts, and a situation that gets closer to home than they’d ever expected – and with multiple suspects for that initial death on the dance floor.

The whole story is told at breakneck speed, lurching from one crisis to the next – and I particularly liked the way the frenetic pace was marked by a countdown, both from the murder and to the time of the perhaps ill-fated wedding. The characterisation is as fantastic as ever. There’s the really special friendship between those wonderful Agency ladies, every exchange laugh-out-loud but often really touching too – and a whole other layer with the relationships between the family members, the sisters truly horrendous until their family loyalties slowly come into play. The mystery at the story’s core is endlessly intriguing, a real page-turner with its multiple twists and turns, unexpected discoveries and clever bits of misdirection – but this time there’s a convincing family drama that plays out too, with a fair bit of emotion attached, and that was something I really enjoyed.

Everything I loved about the first book – although I’d say you’d be fine if you chose to read this one as a standalone, just to get the flavour – and the most perfect addition to a series I’m thoroughly enjoying. Sheer fun from its beginning to its unexpectedly emotional ending – and one I’d very much recommend.

Favorite Quotes:

She and Nicola were the golden twins. They had apparently fought a fierce battle to come out of the womb first and hadn’t stopped since, their ferocious rivalry spurring both of them on to stratospheric heights. Childhood family games of Trivial Pursuit had frequently led to fisticuffs and Twister was banned in the Martin household for fear it would lead to a repeat of The Great Battle of Christmas 1990.

His dark beard was so impressive it deserved its own Instagram account.

She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and gasped in horror. Not so much a blushing bride as a victim of a zombie apocalypse.

Pen looked as if she had spent last night bathing in Evian while being massaged by angels. Being near her made Clio shrivel by comparison.

Pies devoured, she was grabbing handfuls of cakes now. Pink, white, honey-glazed, she didn’t care. She just kept shoving them in her mouth. Crumbs were flying around her like the confetti… At other tables, people guarded their cakes and their teapots, as if expecting her to attack.

Clio looked a little too enthusiastic for Amber’s liking. The kickboxing instructor had reported back to Amber that Clio scared him and asked whether she had any unresolved issues.

...it felt like they were strangers at a bad party before anyone finds the booze.

My Review:

I’ve had so much fun reading this series that I never want it to end. Katie Marsh has such a delightful wit that I want to immerse myself in her entire listing. Her brilliant and clever arrangements of words were buoyant, agile, and so keenly honed they kept a smooth reel flowing through my gray matter and often had me chuckling as well as barking aloud with laughter. In addition to the hilarious scenarios the trio fell into and the unfortunate hen party activity choices forced upon them, a well-plotted mystery was afoot that only the Bad Girls could have solved. I adore them all and am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for a copy of "Murder on the Dancefloor" in exchange for my honest review.

This is the second book in The Bad Girls Detective Agency series. While it works as a stand-alone book, there are a lot of references in it to the previous book so it would be best if readers had read the first book, as to better understand some of the events that are referred to in this book.

The story starts at a nightclub where sisters Nicola, Charlotte, Pen and Emma have gathered for their sister Jeanie's hen. Jeanie's best-friends Clio and Amber are also present. The three women work together at the Bad Girls Detective Agency. The story starts out slowly but once it gets going it is very exciting and there is a lot of suspense and thrilling chases after Jeanie trips over a dead body at her hen. The story then continues with the countdown to the wedding - and how many hours since the body was found.

At the same time as the hen there is also a stag going on at the club. The two groups end up doing some activities together. Amber, Clio and Jeanie are also investigating because the police seem to be making no progress or arresting the wrong suspects. They're definitely not listening to the private detectives.

Interwoven with a lot of family drama, the detectives piece together the clues as to what happened in the club and soon realize that the most obvious suspect might not even be involved. The cast of characters that are involved is interesting and the reader will be wondering will Jeanie and Tan actually make it to their own wedding.

The book is not all suspense, there are a few laugh out loud moments as well. The characters are rich and engaging, the storyline is very interesting.

A book with a lift and more than a smile! It's Jeannie’s hen weekend, she is marrying Tan on Monday and unfortunately her sister Nicola has taken over the organising, which means her insisting on doing varying things to have “fun” as Nicola has googled. Heavens to murgatroyd! There are five sisters in all and also Jeannie’s two best friends who she sees as family and with her run the Bad Girls detective agency. Jeannie was in the police until a while ago and her and the girls have rather a reputation for finding criminals quicker than her ex- colleagues. When Jeannie finds a body on the dancefloor it looks like the hen weekend could be rather busier than first anticipated.

This is the second in the series but is happily a standalone book. I loved this, one I raced through as I was enjoying it so much. Its life with a twist and yes, some authors licence (what fiction book isn’t?) but seen through real life eyes. There are chases in heels with feather boas (we’ve all seen it), and paintballing (ouch- been there -never again) and lots of drama involved in the pursuit of the bad guys. If you enjoy a light-hearted, fun mystery read this could be the very thing, it really did leave me with a smile. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I very much look forward to the next one.

Jeanie is on her hen night and her biggest worry is her My Little Pony outfit and her fiance's increasing emotional distance. Until the hens happen upon a dead body in the nightclub and decide to find the killer...
Murder on the Dancefloor is the second book in a series of murder mysteries. I have not read the first book and there are several mentions of events in the last book but no major spoilers.
Jeanie is on her hen night with her mum, 4 sisters and 2 best friends. She argues with a young woman and later Talia is found dead. The women decide to find out the truth and catch the killer following their success with a previous murder case.
I had not read the first book so I felt a little overwhelmed by the range of main characters at first. The plot direction helped to fix the characters in my mind and allowed me to enjoy the book more as it progressed.
As well as the murder mystery, there is Jeanie's exploration of Tan's odd behaviour which make threaten their wedding. She also needs to locate lost wedding rings which is a hugely emotional element as they were her late father's.
I really enjoyed the lighthearted tone and comedic elements to the narrative. The relationships had nuances which made the characters shine from the pages, adding an authenticity and relatability to them.
Murder on the Dancefloor is an enjoyable murder mystery and I want to catch up with the first book.

2.5* Started of all right, but lost me sort of halfway through.

Jeanie’s on her hen do, which she seems to have been bullied into by her sisters. Sisters that are old enough to know that some things just ain’t funny anymore. Or weren’t ever. Anyway, Jeanie tries to make an escape and stumbles over a dead body.

With a day to go before Jeanie’s wedding, friends (and co-workers at the bad girl detective agency) Amber, Clio and Jeanie decide to investigate. Chapters are told alternating from their three perspectives.

At first I liked Amber and Jeanie, but Clio not so much. But both Clio and Jeannie seem a bit dense. Perhaps it was the advantage of seeing all three perspectives that made some twists obvious from a mile away, or perhaps the writer was a bit too obvious about things.

I stopped liking Jeanie when she became whiny, seriously disliked her when she started arguing stealing a car is a crime. She was fleeing quite possibly from the murderer and she was on her way to protect her children from criminals that might hurt them. And under those circumstances she wants to take the moral high ground and not take someone else’s car?

Story picked up a bit after that, but I wouldn't have blamed Jeanie if she had slapped Tan or grabbed his arm and marched him out the door.

I read an ARC through NetGalley.

Murder on the Dancefloor is the second book in the series that features three friends, Clio, Jeanie, and Amber, who have formed a detective agency. The first book focused on Clio while this book revolves more around Jeanie, who is about to be married. But, things take an unexpected turn when a young woman is murdered during Jeanie’s hen party at a local pub.

I liked this book a bit more than the first one, and I think it was because of the addition of Jeanie’s four sisters plus her mother. There are quite a few characters in this story, but they all add those necessary layers that makes the book more enjoyable. The plot is interesting albeit a bit contrived and, for the most part, the pace is fairly even. In some ways Murder on the Dancefloor reminded me a little of the “perils of Pauline” – someone would escape a situation only to find themselves in yet another predicament. These women are cats with nine lives and that’s what makes this cozy fun.

My one complaint about this book concerns the references to Jeanie’s father and how much she missed him and the support he always gave her. In my opinion this was mentioned and analyzed a little too often and a little too much. It became distracting and slowed down the tempo of the story. However, I would give Murder on the Dancefloor 3.5 stars. NetGalley provided an advance copy.

Oh my. This book. Folks. Really don't know what to do with it because on the one hand, it's Katie Marsh, but on the other hand...
I know Katie Marsh as an author of beautiful, emotional, powerful stories. I don't know her as an author of cosy crime. I actually didn't know that "Murder on the Dancefloor" is a second book in the series, I somehow missed the first book, but as soon as I've seen Katie Marsh on the cover, I requested it.

I know one thing. Katie Marsh should have stick to writing beautiful, emotional, powerful love stories. Because this book, there was everything wrong. Wooden characters, wooden and forced and simple plot, convenient situations. It tries to be funny sometimes, this story, but tis is absolutely not my kind of funny, it felt so forced. This whole story felt so amateurish, it lacked in depth and the mystery didn't held me interested.

The only thing that was done well in this book was the friendship and family relationships. There was this feeling of girls power, of the fact that the women can do anything and they will survive and achieve their goals, no matter what. Other than that..., well, not for me.

This is the second in the #badgirlsdetectiveagency series …

It picks up with everyone being out in a club for Jeannie’s hen night , not the night Jeannie had planned but as always due to one of her sister’s commitments a sticky sweaty club in town rather than a nice beach abroad was chosen !

I cried with laughter on and off through this book , as worn the first in the series how not to murder your ex .

All was going well until a body turns up on the dance floor , the woman is wearing a hen party t shirt but the ladies quickly realise she is not part of the group !

Again deeply interwoven are her best friends who make up the detective agency , Amber the clear headed one , Clio who is even more impulsive in this one ! Jeannie is still little miss sunshine herself .

Her relationship with Tan has been strained he has been acting strangely not where he says he will be , will this wedding even happen ……

Believable characters great storyline and a splash of humour , I loved this book and look forward to the next !

Thank you netgalley 💛

Murder on the Dance Floor is a humorous cozy mystery with an ensemble cast who work together to find a killer.

The hen party kicks off in an uproarious way when a girl is stabbed on the dance floor. There is a lot of tense drama here as people scramble to help the dying girl while others try to preserve the scene and stop people from leaving. There is one suspect right from the get go and it isn't long before one of the ladies from the detective agency is in hot pursuit.

Things aren't always as they seem though and events take an even darker turn when a plot involving drugs, blackmail and kidnapping is unveiled.

I enjoyed the relationships between Jeanie and her family and her friends. Jeannie's family might be a royal pain, but they are loving and are there for one another when it matters. There is also great banter between Jeannie and her friends, which lends humour to the story.

The ladies seem to stumble onto clues and into situations at the drop of a hat leading to plenty of dramatic yet lighthearted scenes in their pursuit of the truth.

Princess Fuzzypants here: Jeanie, Amber and Clio are best friends as well as business associates. They are the Bad Girls Detective Agency and when they join Jeanie at her painful hen party the weekend before her wedding, they have no idea they will be on the hunt for a murderer. Root canals would be preferable to “festivities” dreamed up by Jeanie’s sisters. The murder is almost a relief. Jeanie’s relief is short lived when she realizes that her own life will be spinning out of control before the weekend is done.

Amber, a former detective, knows what she is doing and does her best to keep her friends out of harm’s way. Clio is a walking disaster and Jeanie, who is a bit better, does her share of silly stuff. There is humour here but with a bite. The three ladies do manage to uncover the killer with the aid of some unexpected helpers. In spite of solving the case, will Jeanie’s wedding take place. The odds are not looking good.

I did enjoy the book and the various twists it took. Four purrs and two paws up.

Katie Marsh’s new mystery, Murder On the Dancefloor runs the gamut of human emotion, but mainly sticks to being a reflection of the main protagonist’s personality: sunny and silly fun!

We walk in on everyone gathering for Jeanie’s hen night, that was unfortunately planned by her sister instead of her besties. Her sister googled the word fun to get ideas for this whole shindig, and then both of Jeanie’s sisters dressed her up as a furry My Little Pony for the crazy night of fun at the local dive bar, complete with “fun” male member pens and coordinated t-shirts.

Because of the amount of alcohol that was consumed for everyone to get through their weekend shenanigans, when one of them trips over a dead body on the dance floor, drama, high-jinks, and misunderstandings abound while the Bad Girls Detective Agency decide to try to solve this murder.

But will Jeanie ever make it up the aisle?

Another cracking read from Katie Marsh and I was excited for the return of the Bad Girls.

It’s the run up to Jeannie’s wedding, and when a young woman is murdered at the same venue as her hen night, the girls are back on the case, but so are the police and Clio does not want to risk being interrogated by Marco again! Once the team find connections with the case that are closer to home than they would like, they are in a race against time to solve the case before the wedding, because if they can’t, there might not be a wedding!

Once again, I loved the humour and brilliant one liners, which had me roaring with laughter. The plot was very well written and although I did work out part of it, it was a lot more in depth than I was expecting, so it definitely kept me guessing with some great twists along the way.

I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, for a book tour with Rachel's Random Resources.

This cosy mystery is the second book in the Bad Girls Detective Agency series. I enjoyed the first book, How Not To Murder Your Ex, a few months ago, so I was looking forward to reading this.

This was a lot of fun to read. I found the characters fun, feisty and relatable, and I enjoyed reading about them again. There were also some pop culture references throughout the story that I enjoyed. I enjoyed the dynamics of the characters, how they interacted with and related to each other. This book was very light, easy reading and made me chuckle. It's probably the type of book that I would pick up to help me relax, or cheer myself up. I think this book series would appeal to some of my friends, even if they don't read regularly.

Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books, Rachel's Random Resources, and to the author, for the opportunity to read and review this.

Difficult second novel

Well there were so,e unbelievable issues in the first book but let us be honest, this whole thing is suspended disbelief. As in every good detective story the killer is the last person you expect but in this one it is because they are not really a character, and some of the characters are just beyond unbelievable. Things just don’t happen like this in the real world. OK so was the first book but you can only get away with it once.

OK. Not a good detective novel. Is it funny? Fairly. The same three characters each with their own version of a midlife crisis joined by Jeanie’s four sisters and mother each with their own quirks (also unbelievable and somewhat inconsistent) but this time centred around a wedding it is far more leaning to “chick lit” yea h I hate that description but it fits here. No depth to characters (any depth was exploited in book 1.)

I enjoyed this book even more than the first one and I REALLY enjoyed the first one.Clio, Jeanie and Amber are back, this book is way more action packed than the first book and honestly the TWIST of who the killer is had me on the edge of my seat. Katie Marsh is very much becoming a favourite author for me with this series, I have enjoyed the first 2 books so much. Fantastic cosy murder mystery with witty funny characters who are completely relatable, I also love that this book did also make me laugh, and smile and there was some really beautiful moments between the characters in this and it really warmed my heart, I also love how totally British this book is just makes it all the more relatable and funny. 10/10 recommend. I can't believe we have to wait till next January for the next installment, I genuinely can't wait for the next book.
