I think if it weren't for the subject of "British and American literature" in high school, who knows when I would have gotten to this.
I had the book as a compulsory reading at high school. I don't know why I completely ignored it before. After reading the retold version by Margaret Tarner, I have to evaluate that it is indeed a "must-read" of world literature.
Novels and especially historical novels of this type can offer a quite realistic view of what is happening at the time. The very atmospherically rendered 18th century England, I have to say, drew me into the action and I could imagine it lively. I also watched the film and I must say that it was perhaps what helped me to understand the story of the book itself even more and to appreciate this jewel of English literature better. I like romance, especially in literature.
Although it seems to be a book written earlier for women, I feel that it can talk about both sexes.
I found myself there somewhere.
Social and historical novels are certainly another group of books that I would like to pay more attention to. A nice story like Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice convinced me of that.
Hahaha.
Still, it was fun to read. Mr. Darcy itu benar-benar tipe idaman wanita, diam-diam menghanyutkan dan perhatian gitu. Nggak heran banyak yang naksir, haha.
We’ll, I can’t really give the original book a review since I read a retold version buttt, I’d rather read other books than read this book. I enjoyed the simplicity of the plot but I dunno I guess the book just wasn’t for me. Maybe it was the lack of imagery? I dunno but I feel like the original version is better than this one.
high key hate this the story is kinda boring, and the only thing that makes pride and prejudice good is jane’s writing, without it, it’s a huge disaster
Loved the story, enemies to lovers, loved when and where the story took place, but the book is very short so everyone was introduced very fast and sometimes I wasn't able to follow the story!
Okay, this book is just a big complicated love triangle. Mrs. Bennet has five daughters and one big problem (for her). A rich (and handsome) man named Mr. Bingley moves into the neighborhood. He's single, so Mrs. Bennet marked him down as a good candidate for the girls. Mr. Darcy is a friend of Mr. Bingley's, also single. But Mr. Darcy is a total snob. Then comes in Wickham, who is another single man. He isn't as rich, but he is a seemingly perfect gentleman. Later, Wickham isn't what the people thought he was, and turns out to be the Bennet family's worst nightmare. Mrs. Bennet only the best for her girls, so she aims for rich men, upper class men. I think she cares about her daughters and wants them to be happy throughout the rest of their lives. I think Jane Austen was attempting to show the readers the dark side of love, and she delivered it pretty well. This was an interesting book to read.
Everyone knows the story of Pride and Prejudice so no need to define the plot.
It was my introduction to the romance genre. The perfect place to begin my "late in life" obsessive love affair with romance novels. P&P lead me to Elizabeth Gaskill's North & South and then to Laura Kinsales's Flowers From The Storm. Soon The Bridgertons, The Rockliff Series, and so many more.
My only regret is that at 58 I discovered that the when I was reading The Golem & The Gini or The Snow Child or The Light Between Oceans, I was really falling love with the love story. And there are so many really good romance novels. I spent years reading horror and fantasy and sci-fi and crime novels. Now I only want to read the emotional, angst filled regency's. I couldn't be happier. And if I sneak in a P&P variation or sequel, it is my guiltless pleasure.
In this story, some sisters tried to get married good men. However it was not easy to do. If there is equlity, they can get married to someone freely beyond the gap.
Q. Now we should have equality for all things. If you do not have equality, could you make an objection not to discriminate?
A. I could do. Nowadays, it is normal for us to have eqality. However, it is not normal for past people. We must have equality and protect it whatever happens.
I like this book. I learnt past English culture. That is so nasty for people. We should read more books and consider what is good, what is bad.
-MACMILLAN;MACMILLAN READERS;level 5. -Time 9/24=80 minutes -7-word summary: family - gossip - manners opinion - character - proud - daughter. -Discussion questions: 1 Have you ever conceived a prejudice against anybody? -Of course I have. I think this feeling is terrible and unworthy. When I see mischievous boys, I hate to approach them and talk to them. However, probably, they may be nice guys. 2 How do you feel when your friends show off the test of good score? -I feel bad. This is because I think good test should be hidden forever. This is the pride for people who are clever.
I recommend this book. When you read it, your mind and view would change. This book is thoughtful.
When I read this book, what I really was expecting was a book that was going to be boring and drag on forever. But I really didn't see that in this book, in fact I really was looking forward to being able to read it. Many of the things that she describes in the book can still apply to today, even though they were written about a different period. My main problem is that I didn't personally feel like I got to much insight on most of the characters, but that could partially be based on me not being able to understand some of the language in it very well. All in all, I thought it is a very good book and I would recommend it to other people.
This is by-far my favorite book of all times it is a classic love story while it simultaneously tells of the hardships of being a woman in the 1800`s. This tale is full of relateble characters and bigger than life romances we can only dream about. As a classic it is still so relatable to a modern woman which con only attest to the fact that Jayne Austen is one of the most timeless writers of all time!
This classic is worth the read but I recommend reading it when you have no distractions. The dialogue and speech patterns are so foreign to the way we speak today, it takes time to get used to this and enjoy the story.
