One year ago, Colin’s father died, making him the Duke of Raecroft. Unfortunately, this means that every female in the British Isles is after him. And he is bored by them all—until he spies an anonymous young lady on the terrace at a ball. From the moment he lays eyes on her, he knows something is different, and he is determined to discover what about her makes his heart race.
Until she disappears without a trace.
Lottie seems to have a gift for being in the wrong place at the very right time. And she absolutely should not be flirting with the gentleman on the terrace at the ball she shouldn’t even be attending. But something about him calls to her, and she can’t figure out what.
But it doesn’t matter. She has a secret that must not be discovered, or much more than her heart could be broken.
Mary Claire’s debut novel left me swooning. What a treat to be able to cuddle up with this book, a book I didn’t want to put down. I cannot wait to see what else Mary Claire has in store for her readers!
What a beautiful, Regency-era love story with a modern edge! The author had me at the terrace, very early on. From there, I knew my heart was invested. There are many twists and turns and scheming debutants along the way making it a rich, emotional journey about battling the odds no matter the cost. You’ll be rooting for Colin McDreamy and Lottie more and more with each page. A worthwhile journey—from start to finish!
This wasn't the type of time-travel novel that I prefer, but it was still a pleasant read. The focus was on the romance, so it didn't give me the "fish out of water" feeling that makes time-travel novels fun. There was also more time spent with side characters than was necessary, unless the author is planning to make this a series and give those characters their own books. All in all, this was a light Regency romance, so if you are in the mood for that, it is worth picking up.
You would never know by reading it that this is Mary Claire's first book. It is so well written. I fell in love with the characters, and am anxiously hoping for a sequel to spend more time with them.
